yup

If you think your kids never listen to you, chances are you’re probably right. However, every so often we see a story like the incredible one below that proves kids can completely surprise us and soak up a lot more knowledge than we give them credit for.

Kenner Fire Department District Chief Patrick Ardeneaux says his fire house sees countless kids come in and learn about fire safety every year. “All the schools come to the fire house, we show them around, give them a safety talk,” he told CNN. “It just happened to stick with this one little girl.”

[WWLTV]
[WWLTV]
Five-year-old Cloe Woods of Louisiana shocked everyone by remembering the fire safety tips she learned at the Kenner Fire Station and saving her grandmother’s life when she heard her home’s fire alarm go off around 7 a.m. on a Wednesday morning.

[WMAZ]
[WMAZ]
Remembering what she learned at the fire house months back, the pre-kindergartner went into her blind grandmother’s bedroom to wake her up, leading them both to a neighbor’s house, where they called 911.

Firefighters believe the fire was caused by food left on the stove, according to CNN, and people across the New Orleans suburb and beyond are praising the tiny hero for her quick-thinking and bravery.

The ‘She Shed’: A Tiny Home Specifically For Women

she shed

We’ve all heard of “man caves,” which are a room, space, corner or area of a dwelling that is specifically reserved for a male to be in a solitary condition, away from the rest of the household.

This space can take form of an equipped garage, basement, spare bedroom, media room or den and it allows the man or men of the household to work, play, and enjoy certain hobbies and activities without interruption. It’s also an opportunity for men to do so without the interference of a female influence.

But what about women? Up until recently, there was no designated space for us to enjoy a quiet reprieve from the world, and a name for the place we can call “ours.” But some really creative person coined the term “she shed,” and viola, women now have their own gender-specific escape from the world. Much like their manly counterparts, the “she shed” is a haven for busy women, typically constructed in the backyard. These tiny homes are perfect for women who want alone time for reading, creating, relaxing, practicing a hobby, gardening, or spending time with girlfriends.

There are no rules to building a “she shed”; they are anything you want them to be.

Click below to scroll through these beautiful “she sheds” that we hope will give you inspiration to create your own.

Batman Superfan Transforms Spare Bedroom Into The Ultimate ‘Man Cave’

Darren Wilson, 46, from Wiltshire, who has converted one of his bedrooms into a Bat Cave. See SWNS story SWBATCAVE; A comic superfan has spent 18 months turning his spare bedroom into a BATCAVE. Darren Wilson, 46, has been an avid Batman fan for more than two decades and wanted a fitting room to house his £15,000 collection of comics and memorabilia. The married sculptor spent most weekends and evenings for a year and a half transforming the spare room of his home into a batcave. He installed wooden joists and mesh to hold countless stalactites made from layers of paper mache, topped with SIX colours of grey paint. Mr Wilson even had a mock pipe installed through the middle of the third bedroom, to make it look more like Bruce Wayne's secret underground headquarters.

It might have taken him his whole life, but one British man’s dream to pursue his comic book fantasy has finally become a reality.

For more than two decades, 46-year-old Darren Wilson of the Calne, Wiltshire in the U.K. says he’s been obsessed with everything Batman. While he is far from the only person in the world who idolizes the DC caped crusader, the superfan now has one unique claim to comic fame.

Wilson, who makes his living as a professional sculptor, might just have the most loving wife in the world. We’ve seen plenty of couples who make room in or outside the house for a special “man cave”, but what Wilson did to a spare bedroom in his home takes this idea to a shocking new level.

[SWNS]
[SWNS]
Over the course of 18 months, Wilson transformed the ordinary bedroom into a secret space that would make Bruce Wayne very proud. The new Batcave is the perfect home for Wilson’s roughly $21,000 in Batman collectibles, which includes an autographed Adam West poster and multiple figurines.

In the video below from SWNS, Wilson says the idea came to him when he started to recreate the bedroom into a computer room. Now everyday can be a ‘dark night’ for Wilson, in the space he spent countless hours creating paper mache stalactites and mock piping to resemble the superhero’s lair.

[SWNS]
[SWNS]

However, there was just one condition on keeping his masterpiece. Wilson had to promise his wife he wouldn’t be doing anymore decorating in their home!

Check out the amazing video and don’t forget to share this with your friends on Facebook.

To be a police officer, you have to be incredibly thick-skinned and be as emotionally tough as you are physically, but you also have to know when to be gentle and calming for someone who has just been traumatized.

When a Brazilian police officer witnessed a little boy get hit by an oncoming car, his instincts kicked in and he immediately called for an ambulance and laid down on the street to comfort the boy as they waited together.

The young boy was chasing after his dog when he darted out into the street and was hit by a car in Sao Paulo. The officer immediately put the boy in the recovery position and supported his head with his hand in case his spine had been injured.

While waiting together, the policeman tried to distract the boy by promising him an exciting ride after the ambulance got there. “We’ll take you for a nice ride in our car,” the officer said.

Finally, the ambulance arrived and took the boy to the hospital to check if he had been badly injured. Luckily, he wasn’t injured as much as expected, and he was released home to recover some more.

Crazed Hockey Fan Throws This On To The Ice. Seconds Later, We’re Disgusted!

hockey fan 1

University of New Hampshire hockey fans have a very strange tradition of throwing a dead fish onto the ice after the team’s first goal.

The Wildcat’s website explains it best:

According to Bob Norton, a former UNH assistant coach, the fish-tossing tradition began in the early 1970s. “It goes back to when we were playing a Division II team, and our program had gone way past theirs. I remember (the UNH fans) threw out this little dinky thing and they called it a Division II fish. I guess they were trying to tell them they weren’t worthy of a first-rate fish.”

This tradition caught on as a local fraternity made it a ritual to throw out the fish after UNH’s first goal. The fish was used to resemble the visiting team, “fishing the puck out of the net.”

Over the weekend, a UNH fan was entrusted with the responsibility of throwing the fish, and he appeared to encounter some trouble with the task. The fish was so large that the kid struggled to get it over the plexiglass, and he failed not once, not twice, but many times. He even dropped the fish, sending everyone seated near him running.

The boy eventually managed to get the fish on the ice, but probably walked away a little embarrassed, and smelling fishy.

Facebook’s New Update Enhances Everyone’s Like With Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, Angry Buttons

Today, after tests in a few countries, Facebook rolled out its augmented like button reactions to all users.

Now, when you click like on someone’s photo or post, you have the option to choose an emotion to go with it- like, love, haha, wow, sad or angry.

Credit: techcrunch.com
Credit: techcrunch.com

Instead of a ‘like count,’ posts will display the total ‘reaction count,’ and show the icons of the most popular reactions.

Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook says “I want to really make it easy for people to give other types of feedback than the like button in News Feed.”

Sometimes when a friend shares a post about a tragedy or something that annoys them, it doesn’t feel right to like it, and commenting can be awkward. With these new reactions, you can express empathy, without technically having to say anything.

If you want to know the breakdown, you can even tap the reaction count to see who felt what. But, if you don’t want to use reactions, you can simply click the like button as you normally have.

By adding reactions, Facebook will now have a better understanding of what we feel and what kind of post resonates with each one of us.

It could potentially use this knowledge to filter our News Feed and show more things that “wow” us.

What do you think of Facebook’s new ‘reaction buttons’? Do you think they will be helpful in better showing how we feel about a post?

Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.

Parents are supposed to be the ones to take care of and look after their children in times of need, but this man’s guardian angel turned out to be his own son.

60-year-old Michael Kiddy was at work stocking shelves at a Food Lion in North Carolina when his heart suddenly stopped beating and he fell to the floor. Luckily, an 18-year-old student and some nurses began performing CPR until the first responders, including his own son, could arrive at the scene.

Moments later, firefighters from the Valdese Fire Department got there and immediately started respirations.

Fireman Steve Kiddy, who also happened to be Michael’s son, automatically went into life-saving mode as his training had prepared him to do. However, the man’s face was covered with the CPR mask so he had no idea the man dying on the floor was his own father.

“My chief came up and asked me if I’m alright,” Steve said. “And then it dawned on me to check and see who this person is.”

Michael was rushed to the hospital where doctors took over and amazingly managed to revive him without any lasting damage being done. “It’s special because they say I was really, really gone,” Michael said. “And here I sit.”

The Eye-Opening Way Baby Powder Might Be Causing Cancer

For years, millions of people have been using baby powder to soothe irritated skin, prevent rashes, and keep skin dry, but the cure-all product, which was invented in 1893 by Johnson & Johnson’s, has proven to have some shocking- and possibly deadly- effects.

Today’s baby powders are made of talc, which is a mineral made up of the elements magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. Alarmingly, repeated exposure and application of the fine white powder to the genital area has been shown to increase the chance of certain cancers like ovarian cancer in women by 35 percent.

While there is still so much to learn about the link between talc-based powders like Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder, The American Cancer Society and doctors suggest avoiding the powder if trying to lessen your risk of cancer.

Recently, Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder has been making headlines after a St. Louis court ordered the health and body product giant pay $72 million to Jacqueline Fox’s family after the 62-year-old died in October from ovarian cancer from years of use of their Baby Powder and Shower to Shower products for feminine hygiene.

For years, the cosmetic and personal care product industry has been practically unregulated, and this ruling sends a “tremendous signal to J&J and all of the cosmetic companies. They’re basically self-regulated and they know they can just basically get away with anything,” Jere Beasley, one of the Fox lawyers, said.

Jacqueline Fox’s case is just one out of over a thousand lawsuits currently filed against Johnson & Johnson’s for not warning the public about the possible cancer risk users had from their products.

Until scientists reach a more conclusive verdict on the cancerous effects of baby powder, make sure to replace your talc-based products with cornstarch-based products and powders to be safe!

Watch the entire video below to find out more about why Johnson & Johnson had to pay $72 million after a woman got sick and died from using their product.

My favorite thing about weddings is how each one reflects a couple’s true love, special interests, and unique personalities.

We here at Life Daily have seen our fair share of wacky, unconventional weddings, but this next story might just take the three-tiered cake.

Much like this emotional story about a bride and groom who brought the wedding to her sick mother’s bedside, Alaska Airlines flight attendant Kristy Stratton knew she had to do something a little different for her nuptials to her soul mate.

[Frees It In Time Photography]
[Frees It In Time Photography]
Since 2014, Kristy’s mom Billie Jo has been fighting for her life, suffering from stage 4 lung cancer. Her one wish before she passes was to see her daughter get married, where she works, and how she lives.

Seeing as Kristy met fiancé Jim Stratton on a layover flight from Los Angeles to Seattle, she decided there was no better place for them to get hitched – and for her mom to experience it all – then on that same flight, six years later and thousands of feet in the air.

The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index measured how residents of 190 U.S. cities feel about their physical health, social ties, financial security, community and sense of purpose.

The results were released last Tuesday, and residents in the top 5 U.S. communities have reported the lowest levels of stress, little depression and healthy eating habits on a daily basis.

Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Florida is the nation’s highest well-being community, followed by Salinas, California.

“Naples is a high well-being place,” Dan Witters, research director of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, told TODAY. “People in Naples really like their communities.”

Residents there also have the lowest levels of stress in the country, report little depression and eat healthy on a daily basis. They are a community who enjoys daily activities and learning or doing something interesting every day. On top of that, Naples is also an affluent city, but while well-being goes up with income, it’s not beholden to it, Witters added.

Take a look at the top 5 U.S. communities that have the highest well-being:

1. Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Florida

2. Salinas, California

3. North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida

4. Fort Collins, Colorado

5. Barnstable Town, Massachusetts

Did this list surprise you? Do you live in one of the top 5 happiest and healthiest cities?

Baltimore Riot

As a famous man once said: “Violence is a terrible thing, but sometimes it is just terribly necessary.” For better or for worse, the images in this gallery, some of which are disturbing, are a testimony to that well-known quote, but it all depends which side of the ‘fence’ you’re on.

Citizens of a country historically riot for different reasons. Sometimes because they feel oppressed, sometimes because they are living in poverty, and sometimes just for political reasons. So the question is: are riots ever justified? We don’t have the answer to that question, as it depends on the situation, location and reasons for the riot. That being said, when innocent bystanders or cops just doing their jobs get hurt or even killed, it casts a whole new light on the legitimacy of that particular riot.

You may agree or you may disagree with the motives behind these 18 well-documented riots from around the world, but it’s a good thing that there was a brave photographer on hand to capture some of the moments that took place…

Awesome Project Encourages Kids To Read While Giving Lonely Shelter Dogs Some Company

Every dog deserves to be showered with love and affection each and every day, yet many abandoned dogs sit scared, alone, and unloved as they wait for the day someone can hopefully bring them home and make them a part of a family.

In order to help these lovable four-legged animals get the companionship they crave and deserve, the Humane Society of Missouri started the Shelter Buddies Reading Program, which brings in local kids to read to the dogs so they can get adjusted to being around people, as well as encourage kids to be more compassionate.

After completing a 10-hour training program, which teaches kids to work wth the animals and read their body language, kids aged 6 to 15 can come back any time to read to the dogs. The kids simply sit in front of the dog’s kennel to read and give the fearful and timid dogs a treat when they show interest and engage.

“Ideally, that shy and fearful dog will approach and show interest. If so, the kids reinforce that behavior by tossing them a treat,”Jo Klepacki, the program’s director, said.. “What this is also doing is to bring the animals to the front in case potential adopters come through. They are more likely to get adopted if they are approaching and interacting, rather than hiding in the back or cowering”

While the dogs are clearly benefitting from the program, the kids are learning a crucial lesson.

“It’s encouraging children to develop empathy with animals. It’s a peaceful, quiet exercise,” Klepacki said. “They’re seeing fearfulness in these animals, and seeing the positive effect they can have. It encourages them to look at things from an animals perspective. That helps them better connect with animals and people in their lives.”

Breakfast isn’t just the most important meal of the day, it’s usually the tastiest, too!

Piping hot coffee, Belgian waffles, fresh fruit and America’s favorite food, bacon, are some of the top items on my morning list, but if there is one thing that makes breakfast, breakfast it has to be the incredible, edible egg.

[Flickr]

They may all look and taste similar, but we know that no two eggs are alike. If you eat a lot of eggs, chances are good you’ve encountered a strange looking one or a double yolk at one point in life, but a video that has recently gone viral online reveals something most of us didn’t know about our omelet ingredients.

If you had asked me which of the two eggs below is better for you, I would have instantly guessed the sunny bright yellow one on the right.

In fact, I remember tossing eggs with darker yolks, thinking they’ve gone bad, but the video below and this egg yolk color chart reveals that yolk color is a great indicator of a chicken’s health…and just like leafy greens and grainy bread, when it comes to scrambling up breakfast, the darker, the better.

Teenager with terminal cancer married his girlfriend on Friday, in a ceremony put on by the whole community.

Luke Blanock,18, wed his high school sweetheart, Natalie Britvich in a 200 person ceremony this past weekend. Almost everything needed for the teenagers’ wedding was donated by members of the Canonsburg, Pennsylvania community.

“It was very happy, very high energy. Luke was healthy enough to walk down the aisle by himself, without his crutches.” Luke’s uncle, Patrick Goode, who attended the wedding, told ABC News. “It was really beautiful.”

The former high school basketball and baseball star was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone cancer in December of 2013, a Go Fund Me page created by his parents said. According to the page, his cancer has spread and is terminal.

Ashley Cyprowski, the wedding planner, told ABC News how thankful she was to the community who really came together to put on this wedding. There were about 200 guests who came to celebrate.

“We got a ton of donations. The flowers, the reception hall itself, just a lot of people came together from our local community and donated their time, their services, and their goods,” Cyprowski said, noting that “With all their medical expenses they don’t have a lot to spend on something like this.”

“I’ve never seen the family as happy as they were that day. Luke was so high energy, he was just glowing.”

Harvard Study Confirms Red Wine Before Bed Aids In Weight Loss

As if you needed another reason to spoil yourself with a tasty night cap!

If you like to indulge in a little vino from time to time, consider yourself far from alone. According to the Wine Institute, Americans poured themselves 893 million glasses of wine in 2014, with those numbers expected to steadily raise. And although that’s enough wine to make anyone feel like they’re overserving themselves, we have some good news for anyone who loves their Merlot or Cabernet.

The debate about whether red wine is good for your heart (and soul) or not has seemingly gone on forever, but two new studies by both Washington State University and Harvard Medical School have given us another beneficial reason to enjoy a daily glass.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
As reported by women’s site PureWow, two glasses of red wine before bed can help aid in weight loss. Here’s how it works: An antioxidant in red wine called resveratrol helps certain fat cells break down much quicker, helping you shed excess pounds from your waistline.

Drinking of red wine at night has also been proven to curb sugar cravings and help prevent those late night trips to the refrigerator.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
Although this is great news for vino lovers, the experts warn that daily intake should be capped (and works best) at two glasses, as excessive alcohol intake in any form is irreversibly harmful.
