Syrian War Photo

War is a terrible thing, and the ongoing civil war in Syria, which has been raging for years is one of the worst to take place in modern times. Without going into the politics of who is right and who is wrong, it’s always the average civilian who suffers most, as people with guns and artillery attempt to gain control of some territory or another. Fortunately, even though the images are disturbing, there is always a brave photographer on-hand to capture the devastation on film, so that the rest of the world can get a more personal, proper look at what goes on in a war zone, in this case Syria. From north to south and from east to west, hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been killed, maimed or displaced by the civil war there. Even the Americans have refrained from getting too involved and have not sent ground troops into this deadly war zone for fear of losses.

These 20 harrowing images will offer you a deeper insight into the plight of the Syrian people and will help you to understand what the average Joe experiences there on a daily basis…

US Marines

These impactful and moving images were taken more than 40 years ago when the American Army found themselves in the grips of war in Vietnam. Many people in America in those days felt the war was a wasteful one, and one that did not serve U.S. interests. The fact that the Viet Cong were well-trained, expert fighters who knew the jungle well, meant that many innocent American lives were lost. And that’s not to mention the tremendous suffering caused to the people of Vietnam, both in the north and in the south.

These powerful images portray what life was like for U.S. soldiers and Vietnamese civilians alike, as the ravages of war claimed thousands of lives over a long few years that history would rather forget than remember.

As a teenager, your first school dance is a night you’ll always remember as the night you get to dress up and ask your crush to be your date for the first time, however, one 15-year-old from South Dakota new the only girl he wanted to bring was his 10-year-old sister Rebekah.

Rebekah Spader was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome four years ago, and despite every treatment they’ve tried, even a bone marrow transplant, has failed. Knowing how sick his little sister was, AJ Spader decided he wanted to bring her to his first high school dance since she may not survive long enough to go to high school.

“Rebeka and AJ have a close relationship and he has a really big heart,” mom Stephanie Spader said of AJ who wanted to “allow her to do something that she wouldn’t get to do.”

AJ decided to ask his little sister to the dance on a sign reading “I’d be blessed blessed if you went to formal with me” as he knew she may not make it to her own high school dance. “She’s most likely not going to be able to experience high school. So, I just thought why not ask her to the formal,” AJ said.

“I want to spend as much time with her as possible while she’s still doing good,” AJ said.

Everyone helped out to make sure Rebekah felt like a princess, and her grandma and older sister did her hair and makeup so that all the doctors visits, cancer treatments, and operations would feel like a distant dream.

Though they didn’t actually arrive at the dance since Rebekah was too nervous, she got to take pictures and enjoy dinner with everyone. “AJ and his friends embraced her and embraced the situation and didn’t blink twice that a little 10-year-old sister was going to hang out with them,” Spader said. “That for me was the most special thing.”

We’re all constantly being told that we should be careful about connecting to free public Wi-Fi networks, although it’s easy to forget when you need to get online in a hurry.

Czech security software makers called Avast, conducted an experiment to show you why you really should think twice before connecting to an unknown Wi-Fi source. Avast set up their honeypot in a highly traffic public location in a registration booth in Barcelona Airport for a massive tech trade show called Mobile World CongressWith about 100,000 attendees, many would be reliant on Wi-Fi hotspots to get online.

The company set up three Wi-Fi hotspots in the airports with network names- “Starbucks,” “Airport_Free_Wifi_AENA,” and “MWC Free WiFi,” designed to look like they were legit internet connections.

Sciencealert.com reported that:

In only 4 hours, more than 2,000 people connected devices to the bogus Wi-Fi networks, sending and receiving some 8 million data packets. To protect people’s privacy, the company did not store any of the data, but the amount of information they were able to glean from unsuspecting users in this short timeframe shows how exposed we can be when we connect to Wi-Fi sources intentionally set up as network spoofing attacks.

Among the haul, Avast detected that: 61.7 percent of users searched for information on Google or checked their Gmail; 52.3 percent had the Facebook app installed; 14.9 percent visited Yahoo; and 1 percent used dating apps (Tinder or Badoo). What’s more, the researchers could see the identity of the device and user in almost two-thirds of the connections made.

While many of us normally don’t think twice about connecting to a Wi-Fi network called “Starbucks,” simply assuming it’s safe can get you in a lot of trouble. Going forward, try to be mindful of where your internet may be coming from and don’t simply assume that public Wi-Fi networks are safe and uncompromised.

Take a look at these tips to further protect yourself on public Wi-Fi and please SHARE this article with your friends on Facebook!

It’s hard to understand why anyone would want a pet, just so they can abuse them, but that is the sad reality of some animals in our world.

No one wants justice and recovery for every abused animal like we do here at Life Daily, except for the heroes at PETA, who go above and beyond for animals in need like Sarah, the beagle mix in the following video who was discovered close to death.

Before PETA rescued this innocent dog, Sarah lived a life of solitary confinement. “Kept on a short chain in a small box outside, she spent her early years being almost completely ignored.” PETA wrote on YouTube of the dog who was nearly blind and deaf due to a lifetime of abuse.

However, not all hope was lost for this brave canine.

“Sarah, luckily, seems to be one of those who can bounce back pretty well.” the dog’s rescuer says of her incredible improvement in such a short while in the clip.

After Sarah’s unbelievable, speedy turnaround and newfound ability to embrace and trust humans, PETA was able to find Sarah a forever home where she prospered even more and will spend the remainder of her days knowing something she has never had in her life: love.

Whether you’re used to being in the public eye or shy as a mouse when it comes to centerstage, nerves can often get the best of anyone when they’re in the spotlight.

So you can only imagine how nervous Susie Cloutier, a 28-year-old woman with Down syndrome from South Portland, Maine when she took the microphone in front of both peers and strangers.

Susie was overcome with stage fright at an event for STRIVE, a local non-profit organization that “serves tweens, teens, and young adults with developmental disabilities.” according to WGME.

Although Susie started out strong, she quickly became overwhelmed by having to make her speech and broke down in front of the crowd. Luckily, her pal Chandler Hawks knew exactly what to do and came to her rescue, giving her a hug… and the strength she needed to continue.

“OK, I can do it now,” Suzy says in the following clip from WGME, before continuing on with her heartfelt speech about what STRIVE has done for her.

“I got emotional because she was my kid, but I was surprised that everyone else got emotional by it., “Susie’s mom Peggy Cloutier told ABC News. “[For me], that’s what life is like for a handicapped child. There are always people that are going to step up and help you.”

It was a moment that is guaranteed to touch your heart and deserves to be shared.

Tammy Arvin

Rhemy Elsey is a student at Mark Bills Middle School in Peoria, Illinois, and he’s been deaf since birth.

Although he has hearing implants, he relies on American Sign Language to speak, and he even has a translator who accompanies him to school.

In an effort to connect with Rhemy more, students at Mark Bills did something incredible! They started an ASL Club, trading in their lunch and recess time once a week to learn sign language.

Tammy Arvin, Rhemy’s translator and the instructor for the school’s ASL Club told ABC News she’s already taught the students basic conversation and vocabulary words for items at school, food, clothing and even the signs for family members.

In an email with ABC, Rhemy said that he’s thrilled his classmates started the club because “they want to be like me,” and “sign language is cool.”

Arvin noticed that since the club was formed, Rhemy has “gained confidence with his classmates and with expressing himself, and it’s made it easier for the other students to approach him.” She continued, “It’s wonderful to see him have interactions with students that are one-on-one and that are more natural interactions that make him feel less isolated in the school setting.”

However, the club hasn’t just helped Rhemy, it has greatly benefitted his classmates as well.

“The students are just having fun,” Arvin said. “They don’t necessarily realize they’re learning … about deaf culture by participating in this club. It really gives them a perspective on this other culture within the U.S. that they previously weren’t aware [of], so they’re benefiting ginormously just in terms of learning about diversity and having a broader perspective on the world around them.”

Did these students thoughtful act of learning sign language to better communicate with their classmate inspire you?

Army Veteran Loses 25 Pounds To Donate His Liver To An Old Coworker

When Brian Burkett from Arlington, Texas, found out he needed a liver transplant, he reached out to anyone who may be willing to help, including his family, coworkers and his church family.

Burkett had been ill for about 4 years with genetic cirrhosis of the liver, and replacing the organ was his only shot at a better quality of life. His own family members were ruled out as potential donors, as many who volunteered were not matches.

But after sending out an email to his coworkers and church, he got an immediate response from an AT&T co-worker he met 7 years ago named Michael Snyder. Being an army veteran who served two tours in Iraq, duty, honor and sacrifice are ingrained in Snyder’s character.

Snyder offered to donate a portion of his liver to Burkett, saying “If you can do something to help someone why not do it.”

Burkett told ABC News how shocked he was to have gotten such a quick response from Snyder. “He called me within five minutes,” Burkett recalled. “You’re just like ‘What? Thank you!’”

He continued, “I’m dependent on somebody else someone willing to sacrifice themselves literally on the operating table so I can have a better quality of life, so in that sense it’s very humbling,” says Burkett.

But, there was one problem: Snyder had fatty liver disease, and doctors said he needed to drop 25 pounds fast in order to be a possible donor.

Although some might not be up for the challenge, Snyder didn’t hesitate and immediately fell back into his military training to get back in shape. He worked out for an hour in the morning and an hour at night, and gave up nearly all carbohydrates.

In just 3 weeks, Snyder dropped the 25 pounds, and the pair of coworkers underwent transplant surgery last September. Burkett said that after waking up from the transplant, he could immediately feel a difference. His chronic fatigue was gone and he felt better than he had in years.

“You wake up and it’s gone. It was amazing how well it felt,” said Burkett.

Now, months after the surgery, both men are back at work and say the experience of going through the transplant has made them much closer friends and more like family.

“The difference is before we were coworkers and friends, after we have a different kind of connection that honestly is more like family,” said Burkett.

Adventurous 90-Year-Old Forgoes Cancer Treatment To Travel The Country In An RV

While many people’s first instinct after hearing a cancer diagnosis is to fight, others choose to forgo the treatments and make the most of their time rather than spending their last months in a stuffy hospital being poked and prodded by doctors and nurses.

Just two days after her husband of 67 years, Leo, passed away in July, this 90-year-old woman from Michigan named Norma was dealing with her own health crisis. Doctors found a large cancerous mass on her uterus, which would require surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

Instead of resigning herself to months of brutal treatments, which her five-foot, 101-pound frame would likely not survive, she boldly announced to the doctor that she would be ‘hitting the road’ instead.

“We explained to the well-meaning doctor and his student that we live in an RV and that we will be taking her wherever she wants to go,” Norma’s son Tim wrote in a post to Facebook. “He didn’t hesitate to say, “RIGHT ON!” We asked if he thought us irresponsible for this approach. His reply was telling.”

“As doctors,” he said, “we see what cancer treatment looks like every day. ICU, nursing homes, awful side effects and honestly, there is no guarantee she will survive the initial surgery to remove the mass. You are doing exactly what I would want to do in this situation. Have a fantastic trip!”

Together with Tim and her daughter-in-law Ramie, the three set out on the road in a 36-foot motor home in late August with their standard Poodle to see America.

Together, they’ve been documenting their incredible journey on a Facebook page called Driving Miss Norma. Norma is loving being able to live in the moment, and is not in any pain or suffering from any cancer side-effects.

Anyone who knows me well knows I’m always looking for a great bargain and the biggest bang for my buck, but when it comes to booking travel, I tend to wait too long, buy too early and miss out on all the steals and deals.

With flight prices constantly fluctuating, the harsh reality is that there is no secret time or code for getting that golden ticket (and if you know about one please let me know!).

For years, people have been debating what the best day and time of the week to book travel is. Tuesday evening? Sunday morning? However, the best answer may not be a certain day – but how long you wait before booking.

[Shutterstock]

According to a new study from CheapAir.com, the best time to book your ticket is 54 days before your trip. “To answer that question, we looked at 1,336,030,117 air fares (that’s about 1.3 billion) as part of our annual air fare study.” they wrote after studying data from 2015.

However, the problem is that every trip is different and there is never going to be an exact date to make your purchase. To make things a little easier to understand, they’ve created the helpful infographic below.

Whether you need to book your next family vacation or that annoying business trip you could do without, hopefully this information gives you a little peace of mind, so you can focus on more important things in life.

New Yorkers Are Shocked By Child Bride Social Experiment

If you’ve ever been to the Big Apple, you know that you can find just about anyone and anything on the big city’s streets, but what would you do if you encountered a child in an upsetting situation?

YouTube prankster and social experimenter extraordinaire Coby Persin decided to test hundreds of unknowing people in Times Square, with a scene that would horrify even the most jaded New Yorker.

In the following video, we see a senior man and a little girl that looks like she could be his granddaughter, only the 65-year-old and 12-year-old are dressed in a tuxedo and wedding gown, preparing to tie the knot.

Needless to say, the social experiment‘s May-December couple got more than a few looks during the wedding photo shoot at the Crossroads of the World, and the creepy groom even got a few choice words from some very disturbed onlookers.

[Coby Persin]
[Coby Persin]
However, the most shocking part of this viral video might just be that although child brides seem like a thing of the past, girls as young as 6 years old are being stripped of their youth and forced into marriage in more than 90 countries around the world.

And worst of all some U.S. states like New Jersey allow children to marry with judicial approval. “A judge in 2006 approved the marriage of a 10-year-old boy to an 18-year-old woman. A judge in 1996 allowed a 12-year-old girl to marry a 25-year-old man.” wrote the New York Times last October about the little-known child marriage problem right here in the states.

[Coby Persin]
[Coby Persin]
Thankfully, there are organizations like Unchained At Last, which help young people escape their forced, often abusive marriages and help to put an end to this growing problem.

You can help spread awareness to this growing problem, too – SHARE this video with your friends on Facebook today and together we can fight to give kids their childhood back.

Dad Tearfully Explains Why Down Syndrome Is The Best Thing To Ever Happen To Him

Each year, about 6,000 babies with Down syndrome are born in the United States to parents who are often crushed at the diagnosis because they’ve lived their lives ignorant of what it really means to have the syndrome.

While out shopping one day, Robb Scott, a Nova Scotia dad who’s son Turner has Down syndrome, overheard a little boy ask his father what Down syndrome was. The man replied that it was an illness of ‘not knowing anything.’
Scott hesitated to correct the man and missed the opportunity to stop the spread of misinformation and ignorance, but what he would have said to the little boy is now going viral.

Scott explains that Down syndrome is, in fact, not an illness or a disability at all. “Down syndrome is literally one of the most beautiful things that has ever happened in my life,” Scott says. “It’s fun, it’s brilliant, it’s amazing, it’s funny, it’s kind, it’s loving, it’s cuddly.”

When the boy asked what Down syndrome was, “He asked it in the most honest, sincere way. And he was a blank slate. The father wasn’t being malicious — I could tell he was fumbling around for the words, trying to find the right description. And he said, ‘It’s an illness. It’s an illness of not knowing anything.’ And my heart sank. It’s not an illness. It’s not even a disability… disabilities are perception,” Scott said.

Man Gives Old Shelter Dogs Haircuts So They Can Finally Find Forever Homes

The sad reality is that older dogs in shelters are often more overlooked than young, ‘bright-eyed’ puppies.

A professional dog groomer named Mark Imhof is doing everything in his power to change that by offering free haircuts and baths to old dogs at animal care shelters, so that they can finally find a home.

Imhof got his inspiration from his fiance, who said she didn’t want to see him go for another soulless job, and she saw the joy in his eyes when he interacted with their animals.

Mark is a former businessman, and his new mission is to make senior dogs more adoptable. Imhof visits Animal Care Centers of NYC to give dogs free haircuts and to make sure they no longer look unkempt.

Imhof recalls how dirty his shelter dogs were before he adopted them, but that didn’t discourage him from giving them a home.

Mark told boredpanda, “Sean was my first shelter dog, and when they brought him to me, he was on the unacceptable list because of behavior issues.”

“Of course, I explain to people, if we were to mat your hair, and then ask you to go do a job, you would probably have behavior issues too.”

People Who Eat Their Food Out Of Bowls May Actually Be Fuller And More Satisfied

In places like New York and California, boring salads are quickly being replaced with ‘power bowls’ filled with vegetables, whole grains and protein.

They’re more filling than salads, but lower in carbs than sandwiches, and they’re popping up everywhere in New York. Hotspots like, Jack’s Wife Freda, Sweetgreen and Egg Shop have ‘power bowls’ on the menu, and they are a perfect option for people who want to eat healthy but still want to feel full.

These bowls are “based on macrobiotics- this perfectly balanced plate with whole grains, lots of vegetables, some type of protein, some type of crunch, [and] a really amazing dressing,” says Lily Kunin, a health coach who lives in Chelsea New York.

Besides the fact that they have awesome ingredients, the fact that they’re in a bowl makes them more satisfying.

Kunin told the NY Post, “I’ve eaten the same meal on a plate,” she says. “It just wasn’t that good.”

“You can combine so many different flavors and textures that it just creates this really satisfying meal. It’s almost like a hug, as corny as that sounds,” Kunin continued.

And Vanessa Packer, founder of modelfit exercise studio in New York agrees. “Rather than a plate where you’re constantly pushing everything to the middle, a bowl brings everything together. You can coat everything in dressing and make a better bite.”

The most powerful ‘Power Bowl’ is said to consist of: 15 percent lean protein, 25 percent whole grains, 35 percent vegetables, 10 percent sauce, 30 percent extras (e.g., nuts, seeds, sprouts, or smugness).

And according to Charles Spence, an expert in the psychology of taste at the University of Oxford, when it comes to crockery, all kinds of factors can come into play. “I certainly believe that the plateware we use to eat from plays a role in what things tastes like. Everything from the texture, the temperature or the feel or the plateware or bowl can fit into this.”

Do you agree with these opinions? Do you think eating from a bowl instead of a plate makes a difference?

No matter how much money someone has at their disposal, there are always things people wish they could have done while they were alive.

David Robert Wetzell, who was an avid animal lover with a dog, six cats, seven chickens and a 20-year-old parakeet, had always wanted to start an animal shelter. “He thought about it and that was something that was greatly on his mind,” Ronald Tompkins, executor of Wetzell’s estate, said.

Wetzell never got to see those dreams through, however, as the 80-year-old died in December 2014. But Wetzell left specific instructions to sell everything he owned and use the $3 million to start an animal shelter.

In his instructions, Wetzell wanted the sanctuary to be modeled after the Animal Welfare League of Clark County. “On this property, there will be a preserve, a cemetery to spread ashes of lost pets, a training and rehabilitation facility as well as a main adoption facility.”

“The property will also be accessible for members and will have trails, dog parks, and ponds where families, individuals and their pets can enjoy the secluded acreage and scenic views. There will also be picnic areas for members to enjoy a full days experience,” Wetzell instructed.

“The animals are well cared for and neutered and fully vetted before they can be adopted,” Mona Willour Newcomer wrote on the shelter’s Facebook. “This shelter is an amazing legacy for a man who cared and put his money where his mouth is.”

Everyone had dreams and aspirations that they one day hope to accomplish, however, after getting a cancer diagnosis, one of the hardest things to come to terms with, behind the physical pain and illness, is the fact that you may never get the chance to do the things you thought your had decades to do.

When doctors found a glioblastoma multiforme tumor on Josh Hetherington’s brain last summer after starting to get severe headaches and seizures, all of the plans he made for his life went out the window. Normally, the disease occurs in people 20 to 30 years older than Josh, and is normally considered terminal.

“But with kids, because kids aren’t supposed to have this kind of tumor, there’s kind of a whole different host of potential outcomes for him,” mom Debbie Stewart said.

Josh had always admired soldiers’ bravery as he grew up, and always dreamed of becoming one when he was finally old enough. But because of his cancer, soldiers from the Fort Carson came together to make him a soldier for the day.

“I don’t think Josh has had a smile off his face from the moment we got here,” Stewart said.

During his day as a soldier, Josh was given his own uniform and got to learn about different types of equipment, including a tank. “I could never give this to him,” Stewart said. “But other people have really made it possible. It’s just crazy to know that there’s people out there willing to give so much to be able to do that for him.”

“There is such a magic that happens between a child with autism and the dogs, they just calm the kids down,” Wendy Isaacs, who works for the trust, told Stuff.co.nz. “The kids will maintain eye contact with the dog, but often not with their own parents and siblings.”

It’s not everyday a firefighter responds to a routine call that ends with him paying a bill.

However, the kindhearted Ryan McCuen did just this. He responded to a non-emergency call at a home in Clinton Township on Feb. 12. One of the residents of the home had to be rushed to the hospital because he needed a ventilator to breathe.

When the family had fallen behind their electric bill, the ventilator went out. Typically, a medical waiver would prevent this from happening, but the form had been improperly filled out resulting in the shut down of the ventilator.

Touched by the family’s struggle, McCue went ahead and anonymously took care of their electric bill, a full $1,023. Of course, this kind of anonymous deed doesn’t stay secret for long. Fire Chief Michael Phy wanted McCuen recognized for his generosity and he spread the word about the good deed.

“His act, although anonymous, should not go overlooked or ignored,” Phy said in the statement, calling McCuen a “very humble individual.”

McCuen told The Macomb Daily that he doesn’t know why he did it, only that he’s glad he did, since somebody was clearly in need of help.

“This might sound corny, but we are here to help,” McCuen told the newspaper. “There’s a lot of people who do good work: Firemen, cops, teachers, and they don’t get any recognition, so I wasn’t seeking any, I’m just trying to give back.”

The firefighter also explained the situation to the electric company’s service representative and ensured keeping the family’s power on would be a priority.

Wow we really need more people like this in the world. If you agree, please SHARE and spread the word about these kinds of deeds.

[Confessions of a Cosmologist]

You love a day of pampering at your nail salon, but a trip back may cost you an arm and a leg…quite literally.

Stacey Wilson of Benton Arkansas is going to think twice the next time she books a pedicure. The poor woman, who works as a nurse at Saline Memorial Hospital is suffering through a painful infection after receiving a pedicure from hell.

According to ABC7, it was a particularly painful pedicure that came with a little bit more than just tough love. The pedicure was too rough and she said the worker scraped her feet with a pumice stone too harshly, nicking the side of her feet and her pinky toe.

You would think a little redness is to be expected, but the infection that followed sent her to the hospital.

Wilson says a few days later her ankle became sore and red. After the weekend, the pain became worse and by Tuesday, she couldn’t even stand. By this point, the skin on her ankle was red and creeping up her leg, and her fever had risen to 102. “I was like, it’s time to go to the ER,” Wilson said.

After arriving at the hospital, she discovered she had a serious infection. You can hear the whole horrifying news story below:

Make sure your friends and family are aware of these harmful infections easily caught from public places. SHARE this tale with friends and family and tell us your thoughts in the comment section.

The once-gleaming white luxury liner capsized and sank off the holiday island of Giglio in January 2012 after sailing too close to shore. Its wreck has remained there ever since, as engineers embarked on one of the largest maritime salvage operations in history. An investigation focused on shortcomings in the procedures followed by the crew and the actions of the Italian captain, who allegedly left the ship prematurely.
