Woman Gives Water To Pigs Set For Slaughter And Receives A Slaying Of Her Own

Hold onto your hats, folks: compassion is now punishable by law.

On a hot June day in Toronto, Anita Krajnc, the founder of Toronto Pig Save captured on video the mistreatment of pigs being transported in harsh conditions while she gave them some water. Toronto Save Pig is a vegan, non-violence-based organization that holds weekly vigils for farm animals on their way to regional slaughterhouses.

When Krajnc approached a stationary Van Boekel Hog Farm transport truck in Burlington, Canada she asked a fellow activist to give the pigs some water. The driver of the truck became angry and a dispute began. In the end, Krajnc had charges brought up against her for her piece of humanity toward the animals.

The animals were being treated unfairly as they were transported from farm to slaughterhouse. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency pigs (and all animals) must be treated mercifully as they are transported, even if they are being sent to their demise.

Unlike humans, pigs don’t have sweat glands, so in the humid summer heat, the animals were highly uncomfortable, and while they are capable of panting, it does very little for the animals compared to what panting does for dogs.

The animals in the video are shown suffering from heat distress, yet they are not being shown compassion by their transporter.

According to Krajnc’s statement on Facebook, when she attempted to show these animals kindness, she had charges brought up against her. “I’m being charged with criminal mischief (Mischief under $5000, Section 430(b) Criminal Code) – interference with the use, enjoyment of and operation of property.” This is all for giving water to animals set to die.

15 Teen Murderers Who Killed Using Extreme Violence

Eric Smith

There is no excuse for taking another person’s life, but when it is done by children as young as 11 years old it seems even worse. Murder is sadly a fact of life, and something that human beings have been doing to each other since the beginning of time. However, some murders are simply too horrific to comprehend and this list of 15 teen murderers who killed others using extreme violence is a testimony to that. In many of the cases here, the perpetrators were themselves abused by their parents or other family members, and that seemed to be a part of the reason they themselves became killers as they grew older.

While many of the stories here will shock you, most of them simply incomprehensible for a “normal” human to fathom, especially when you consider some of the sheer brutality employed by these teens as they carried out their heinous acts…

This 97-Year-Old Woman Is Being Forced From Her Home, And The Reason Will Make You Sick

Greed is a terrible thing, especially when it forces you to evict old ladies.

Marie Hatch is a 97-year-old woman who has been living in her California home for 66 years. When she first started renting the property, her friend and landlady gave her the verbal promise that Marie could stay in this home as long as she was alive.

Of course, a 66-year-old verbal agreement doesn’t carry very far for some people and the current owner of the home (the owner’s granddaughter’s husband) wants to sell the property which is worth an estimates $1.2 million.

[Credit: Google Maps]
[Credit: Google Maps]
Marie and her 85-year-old roommate Georgia were only paying $900 a month combined, so we can understand the desire to sell the property. The current owner says he is in a predicament in which he needs the money to take care of his sons, however, Marie isn’t buying it.

The situation has turned worse than a nasty game of monopoly and at the end of this spin, it’s going to end with two old ladies out on the street. Neither has family or relatives they can stay with and both have grown close with each other over the years.

You can hear the whole heartbreaking news story below:

This story really grinds my gears. It’s unfair that these women are being kicked out of their homes because of greed. If you feel people should now about the consequences of greed, please SHARE with the loved ones in your life.

When This Cheerleader Asked Out Her Prom Date, There Wasn’t A Dry Eye In The Room

It’s a date they will never forget.

High school is hard and the social hierarchy that exists in the hallways is harder. You have the jocks, the cool kids, the nerds, the burnouts, the cheerleaders, and a hundred other uniform cliques that don’t mingle with the others. At least, that’s what the movies tell us it’s like.

Cheerleader Mikal Bartosik of Park Vista High School in Florida is one student who’s breaking down social barriers. The 17-year-old asked her long time friend Jonathan to prom, a unique invitation because Jonathan is on the autism spectrum and has been made fun of due to his outlandish nature.

Despite his reputation, Mikal showed up to school one Friday morning with a red box, a huge cookie cake inside, and the words “Will You Go to the Prom With Me?” in white icing.

The video captured by a friend shows Jonathan jumping around with excitement after being asked.

[Credit: palm Beach Post]

“It was like something you see in movies,” said Jeanne Ladner, the school’s speech pathologist and cheerleading coach. “I cried.”

“JMR,” as Jonathan is known at school, and Bartosik became friends last year when the cheerleader started hanging out with a group of special ed kids at lunch. When other students criticized her for hanging out with the “weird kids,” she got angry.

“I told them they just have different social issues, different ways of communicating,” she said. “Besides, once you get to know them, they’re not that different and they’re way nicer than kids without disabilities.”

Mikal has been to prom twice already and she said she noticed special needs kids often avoided prom. She wanted to make a positive change and decided to ask Jonathan. She also notes, however, that this is not a pity date. Jonathan is a friend with a good attitude and a fun nature, so she is just as excited as he is.

You can watch the adorable “promposal” below:

Donkey12

When we hear the mention of donkeys, adorable critters are not the first image that comes to mind.

Instead, we think of stubborn smelly barn animals, but perhaps we haven’t given them a proper chance. Thanks to a collaboration on Imgur, we have discovered that even donkeys can be precious once you put a little ass in it.

[Credit: Imgur]
[Credit: Imgur]

The creatures are actually quite easy to love. True, they take a bit of patience, but this is only because a donkey is more cautious than your average horse.

[Credit: Imgur]
[Credit: Imgur]
If a donkey feels the situation is unsafe, it will dig its heels into the dirt and getting it to move after that is a vain attempt.

However, these creatures are also known to be very friendly and they LOVE each other. They feel such strong affection for each other they are known to wrap necks and fall asleep in an embrace.

Now THAT is truly adorable:

Man Pulled From Burning Car Moments Before It Explodes: Wait Till You See What They Found Inside

A Tennessee man is lucky enough to have escaped a terrible collision that SHOULD have been fatal.

On Sunday, the man’s jeep was side-swiped and spun off the road catching fire. Good Samaritans stopped and struggled to pull the man from the wreckage for a highly tense moment. After a few minutes, they managed to get the man out and not a second too soon.

Quickly after they removed the man from the wreck, the car’s fire worsened. Had these bystanders not acted as quickly as they had, the results could have been tragic.

Reporters on the scene showed that the car was wrecked:

The accident, which happened on the eastbound side of I-385, was more than jut a narrowly avoided disaster; it was a miracle. After firefighters extinguished the fire, officials found an undamaged Bible in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The man and the Bible were two things that walked away from the accident unscathed.

The driver was taken to Regional Medical Center with non-critical injuries. His car was completely destroyed but he was okay. Incredibly, the paper Bible did not burn. This story is one for the books, and we’re thrilled everybody made it out alive and well.

Try not to fall off your seat as you watch this video. It’s incredible and intense, but don’t worry, everybody made it out alive in the end.

And don’t forget to SHARE this incredible inspiring story with friends and family.

Are Selfies Narcissistic? Maybe Not

“But first, let me take a selfie.”

The concept of taking a self-portrait on a smart phone (or what the youngins call a “selfie”), has become such a popular trend that it’s worked it’s way into everyday life. You can’t experience culture without coming into contact with a hundred selfies. People taking them in public, posting them online, singing about them in music, and analyzing them in the news are parts of our daily life.

Selfies are also criticized by everybody because, I mean, why not? It’s really easy to call somebody out for taking a picture of him or herself and then posting it on a public platform. On the surface, it is a very vain and narcissistic thing to do. But is that why we do it?

Science tells us that we might be posting selfies because we are trying to take control of our appearance.

Think about it: throughout the day, you never see your face. Any reactions you have or faces you make are viewed by other people, but not by yourself. When you are viewing yourself, it’s usually alone, unnatural, and in front of a mirror, so you have a very faulty image of what you look like.

When was the last time you brought a mirror with you to a social setting so you could watch how you react to those around you? (While this would probably be a fascinating social experiment, people would probably find you a little bizarre.) You have no idea what you look like when somebody tells you good news, you omly know what your face feels like.

How do we view ourselves compared to other people?

University College London neuroscientist James Kilner asked this very question. For example, you know what your face feels like when you are excited, but you don’t know what it looks like. In a study, participants were shown photos of themselves making a face and then asked to make that same face again without looking in a mirror. Without a visual cue, they simply had to base their actions on what they felt was correct, rather than having the visual feedback. Often, participants could not reproduce the same face.

Likewise, participants were asked to look at photos of themselves and pick which ones represented them most accurately. Some photographs had been digitally altered to make the participants look better than they actually appeared, and like clockwork, people picked the most attractive photo of themselves as the best representation. Even though these pictures weren’t accurate, participants thought they were. we overestimate how attractive we are because we don’t have the visual cues to know for sure.

We have a very poor image of ourselves.

This study revealed that humans don’t understand themselves. We view ourselves very differently than the rest of the world does and often we don’t like what the world sees. How many times have you come across a candid of you and said, “wow that looks nothing like me.” Does it look nothing like you, or are you just significantly more attractive in your head?

The reason we post selfies seems to stem from control. We want to have control over the way people view us and we want to give a portrait to the world of ourselves that is similar to the portrait that exists in our heads. So is it narcissistic to take selfies? Yes, but it stems from the desire to figure yourself out and understand how the world views you. (Though it’s still probably a good idea to refrain from posting 12 selfies a day.)

Jet Blue is giving us all a lesson in the concept of compromise.

In an alluring social experiment we all wish we had been a part of, JetBlue offered all the passengers on a flight from Boston to Phoenix one grand offer. These lucky passengers could win a free trip anywhere they wished, providing all hundred and fifty passengers agreed upon the destination.

[Credit: Giphy]

They were each given voting cards and a limited amount of time to decide. Upon announcing the offer, flyers began discussing amongst themselves where they wished to go.

Would they stay domestic or fly international? Did they want a ski getaway or an island vacation?

The debate went on, speeches were made, and crucial decisions took place. With their destination of Sky Harbor International Airport looming closer, it seemed the group may not come to an agreement and would lose their free vacation.

However, in a marvelous attempt to reach across the aisle, everybody managed to work together in this social experiment that has been taken to new heights. You can watch the video below:

What do you make of this fantastic example of compromise for the greater good? Tell us in the comments or SHARE this story with family and friends.

He’s probably not the first player to try mind games, but his might be the first to get two points for them.

A hilarious video posted by Tech&Doc724 is circulating the web showing the ultimate fake-out. During a September game between Phillipine basketball teams the San Mig Coffee Mixers and the Barako Bull, a member of the Bull had a fast break off the jump ball. He then used a little trickery to get the opposing side confused. He went in for an easy shot that the other team (and probably his own team) never saw coming.

First, he threw everybody off by looking like he was setting up his offense:

This Infant’s Heart Was In The Wrong Place: A Last-Minute Transplant Saved His Life

With all the things that could go wrong during a pregnancy, it’s a miracle when babies are born perfectly healthy. Yet, these parents were left hoping for a real miracle when a rare condition threatened their newborn’s life.

In baby Lincoln’s first seven months, he underwent multiple surgeries and even came uncomfortably close to passing away because of a rare heart condition called Heterotaxy Syndrome, which causes organs like the heart to develop on the opposite side of the body. Despite his initial surgeries, doctors knew his heart would not last and added him to the heart transplant list.

While Lincoln and parents Rob and Mindy Seay waited for a match, the seven-month old’s health quickly deteriorated, and he spent most days sleeping. 89 days after being added to the transplant list, and just four days after being revived from cardiac arrest, they found a match for Lincoln. However, while waiting for the new heart to arrive, doctors had to start the surgery early when Lincoln’s heart stopped for the second time so they could put him on the heart bypass machine.

However, while waiting for the new heart to arrive, doctors had to start the surgery early when Lincoln’s heart stopped for the second time so they could put him on the heart bypass machine.

“We were praying for a miracle and that moment in time it’s fair to say we got a miracle,” Rob said. “Because the heart was en route, they went ahead and opened his chest and the surgeon reached in and hand compressed his heart until the new heart arrived.”

Once the heart arrived, everything went according to plan and Lincoln woke up from surgery completely refreshed. “His color is incredibly different, it’s pink and vibrant and he woke up with so much energy,” Mindy said. “We joked, ‘He woke up thinking he was the Hulk.'”

Days after the surgery, the family was feeling relieved and thankful for the donor child’s sacrifice, which had saved their infant’s life. “I will treasure that heart more than I’ve ever treasured any gift,” Mindy wrote. “I will care for that gift to the very best of my ability and will be sure we always give reverence and respect to the child and the family from which it came.”

‘I Can Be 25 or 100’: Leap Year Baby Celebrates Her Birthday

26feb16 bishop--- Edna Halsey a resident at the Elms Retirement Village in Wellington has the distinction of being a leap year baby. She's 100 and only has had 25 official days to celebrate her birthday. She's holding a picture of herself from the first time she was 25.

Edna Halsey is both the oldest and the youngest resident at the Elms Retirement Village.

She was born a leap year baby, meaning she has a birthday of February 29, 2016, but only has an official calendar birthday once every 4 years! “I can be 25 or 100,” Halsey said.

This leap year, Edna gets to celebrate her 100th birthday, saying the key to her longevity is laughter.

“Smile and the world smiles with you. Cry and you cry alone. That’s what I do and that’s exactly how I live,” says Halsey.

Credit: Anna Norris- Chronicle
Credit: Anna Norris- Chronicle

There are some downsides to being a leap year baby, Halsey said. The date on her driver’s license never matched her birth certificate, but that never stopped her from driving.

Halsey’s daughter, Janet Cromley, 66, says, “I feel very blessed because there aren’t many people that can say their mother has been around as long as mine has,” she said. “And there aren’t many who can also say she’s really only 25.”

Credit: Anna Norris- Chronicle
Credit: Anna Norris- Chronicle

And along with Halsey are many other leap year babies- about 200,000 in the United States and just under 5 million worldwide.

The odds of being a leap year baby are said to be 684 in 1 million!

Some leap babies opt to celebrate their birthdays on February 28th, and others insist March 1 is more correct because they were born the day following February 28th.

But, leap babies do experience some problems with not being able to select their birthdays from a drop-down menu online, or those several years when Facebook didn’t acknowledge that birthday

Despite the occasional headache, leap babies derive a certain pride from their unique status, and many says it makes them feel special and makes those rare “real” birthdays even more worthy of celebrating.

Happy Birthday to all the leap year babies!

Please spread the love for them by SHARING this article with your friends and family on Facebook!

Most kids would prefer to fit in rather than stand out for fear that they’ll get picked on or teased for those differences, so when this 8-year-old’s young cousin was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, she decided to shave her head so that he’d never feel self-conscious for looking different.

Shortly after 3-year-old Cooper Evens was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called Burkitt lymphoma, which is located in his intestines, his older cousin Morgan Weyand went to her mom to ask if she could shave her head so she could support Cooper, as well as aunt and another cousin who both have breast cancer.

The third grader came up with the idea on her own, and decided to donate all the hair to ‘Wigs for Kids’. “That little girl has a heart of gold, there’s not many kids that would do that,” hairstylist Amanda Thompson said.

While on a vacation to Las Vegas in January, Lisa Sadiwynk had found out she was pregnant but waited to tell her husband as she wanted to make the moment special. Finally, she reached out to American Airlines to help her make the announcement. “They were very excited to help,” she said. “The flight attendant told me to hand her the letter when I boarded the plane.”

Just before the flight was ready to take off, the flight captain came on the loudspeaker and started making the announcement. “Well Eric although you didn’t strike it rich here in Las Vegas you did hit the jackpot,” the pilot said over the intercom. “Congratulations, you’re about to be a dad.”

One Curious Scientist Reveals What A Tear Drop Looks Like Up Close

Women spend about 12,000 hours of their lifetime crying, and while there are many different reasons to cry, one scientist set out to find out if those reasons made a difference on what the tear actually looked like.

Marice Mikkers, a Dutch photographer and scientist, combined his two passions to explore his project, The Imaginarium of Tears, to see how different stimulants would change the physical makeup of tears, and how that would change the look of a tear.

”All tears contain a variety of biological substances including oils, antibodies and enzymes suspended in salt water,” Mikkers said. When frozen, he was able to take a closer look at the sample and discovered each tear was completely different. “Every tear is as unique as a snowflake. It’s very personal”

Mekkers uses a microscope to look at the frozen samples, which he collects with a micropipette before placing on a slide. At first, he enlisted the help of his friends. “The options they could voluntarily choose from where: cutting onions, eat hot peppers, look into a fan or cry because of sadness or happiness. To see if there was a resemblance or difference in the structure of forming tears, I took images of every tear drop under the microscope.”

While some tears were caused by different stimulants, every single one was unique. “I think it’s safe to say that the differences in tears that are seen are not showing differences between the origins of crying, but just show a composition of the tear itself and the circumstances it crystallised in.”

This little girl and her bovine best buddy couldn’t be better friends and it’s seriously adorable. As the tiny ranch hand gets on her miniature John Deere tractor, she decides to take her furry sidekick out for a little exercise, just like she’s seen her Daddy do.

The cow, who is really more like a canine, runs right behind his little pal and can’t get enough of all the attention.

Upon returning home from war, many soldiers suffer with PTSD- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the relief a dog can provide them with is immeasurable.

At the Embedded Behavioral Health Clinic on Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia, a dog named Zoey who is a licensed therapy dog is there to help calm soldiers. Zoey’s owner, Dr. Tim Fortney, is a clinical psychologist who practices at the clinic, and Zoey participates in animal assisted therapy.

Zoey offers an empathetic paw and welcome distraction when soldiers open up about painful feelings and memories.

“When you think about PTSD two of the issues people struggle with are trust and safety,” Fortney said. Having a relationship and forming a relationship with an animal is all about trust. Zoey picks up on that. So as a soldier develops the trusting relationship with her it facilitates the trusting relationship in therapy in general.”

In one session, a soldier was struggling to relive a difficult memory and Zoey walked over and put her head on the soldier’s knee.

It was like she sensed his pain, and the soldier immediately started petting Zoey.

“It was the first time the soldier ever got all the way through their trauma memory,” Fortney told a military reporter. “It was one of the coolest moments I have ever seen. I don’t know if the soldier would have been able to get through it if Zoey wasn’t there. She provided just that extra little bit of comfort that allowed them to deal with that memory.”

As Dr. Fortney says of Zoey, “She makes it a lot easier for people to come in. She breaks a lot of stigmas.”

In the military, expressions of vulnerability may be discouraged, but in therapy, soldiers can feel comfortable and Zoey helps them do that.

We are so grateful for the dogs that are there for the soldiers that serve our great country.

When new mother-to-be Sheera Lowe had to take the Amtrak train on the very popular New York City to Washington D.C. line, to her hometown of Philadelphia, she knew it wasn’t going to be the most comfortable ride of her life…

However, Lowe never expected her big day of travel from visiting her husband, a FedEx worker stationed in North Carolina, would become this exciting!

At eight months pregnant, Lowe began having contractions on the Amtrak train. The mother, who already has a 4-year-old girl, was due on March 4th, but knew her baby was well on her way when she realized her water broke.

Panicked, Lowe began walking through the aisle, according to The Washington Post looking for someone unplugged, without headphones on or their nose in their iPhone.

She came across a woman reading a book and said to her “Can you help me? I think I’m in labor.” Before the train stopped in Aberdeen, Maryland, where police were waiting for the new mother, Lowe gave birth to a healthy baby girl, who weighed 8 pounds and was wrapped up in “paper towels and sheets of aluminum foil normally meant for hot dogs.”

The good Samaritan, named Christina, stayed with Lowe the entire time, through the terrifying situation. “I’m so happy and so grateful she stayed.” Lowe told The Washington Post, of the kind stranger she decided to name her daughter, Trinity Christina, after her new hero.

The touching story has gone viral since being shared on The Aberdeen Police Station’s Facebook page.
