‘Dangerous’ and ‘vicious’ dog breeds like Pit bulls, bulldogs, and Rottweilers have proven time and time again that they can be just as friendly and as loving as any Golden Retriever, yet people still unfairly judge them and assume that they must be mean if they have big teeth and a muscly body.

Not only are these assumptions unfair, but they also are affecting which kinds of dogs get adopted more, and which breeds get left behind more often. According to a study conducted by Arizona State University, researchers found that dogs that were labeled as certain breeds would spend longer periods of time in the shelter compared to other breeds. For example,

For example, dogs labeled as Pit Bulls spent on average three times more time sitting in the shelter than ‘friendlier’ dogs like Labrador Retrievers.

To put an end to this unfair judgment, the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) decided to completely change the way they present each dog. “Breeds are an aspect of a dog but they don’t make up everything about that dog,” Michael Moorfield of the AAWL said.

“Their personality, their temperament, the life they have led so far before you meet them in the shelter. Those life experiences really make up who that dog is, more than who their parents were five years ago or what their color markings make you think they are as a breed,” he explained.

Rather than just list the dog’s name and breed, the AAWL decided to focus on what kind of environment they would thrive in, and anything that might be construed as negative is rephrased in a positive way. Myrtle, for example, has no mention of breed type, and instead of saying ‘no small children’ the shelter explained that she’d be best suited for kids middle-school-aged and older.

Incredible Shelter Removes Breed Labels Because People Unfairly Judge Certain Breed is an article from: LifeDaily

Kenya is a country known to invest millions of dollars into protecting its wildlife, but on Wednesday, they did something that many will not agree with. 

One of Kenya’s most famous lions named Mohawk managed to escape from Nairobi National Park on Monday, and on Wednesday he posed an immediate threat to human life. 

According to the Washington Post, the 13-year-old lion escaped from the park after being forced out in a territorial dispute with another lion, and looking for another place to roam, he slipped through an unfenced portion of the park. 

“Mohawk did not appear to be concerned about all the cars behind him and he continued to walk at a leisurely pace as he enjoyed the freshness of the morning,” Gareth Jones wrote in the Star newspaper.

A group of men decided to surround Mohawk in the town of Isinya, 20 miles from Nairobi, and they began taunting him- taking pictures and throwing rocks at him. Finally, Mohawk naturally raised his paw and thrashed one of the men. 

Kenya Wildlife Services did not have any tranquilizers on them, so they immediately shot the lion in his right leg.

Aisha Tande, a Nairobi resident says, “I am outraged, disgusted and grossly disappointed with Kenya Wildlife Services.” 

Sadly, the majestic animal passed away.

“We lost one of our best lions,” said Nelly Palmeris, a senior park warden at Nairobi National Park.

The park claims that, “When it injured that person, it became imminent to us that it could lead to a worse situation and it had to be brought down,” says Paul Gathitu, Kenya Wildlife Services spokesman. 

“The decision taken earlier today to put him down was not taken lightly,” South African National Parks tweeted. “He is clearly a troublesome lion and could be a danger to humans,” Reynold Thakhuli, a spokesman for South African National Parks, told the Agence France-Presse. 

But being such a vulnerable species, this shooting has enraged many people and leaves us all extremely saddened.

World Is Outraged After Rangers Kill Mohawk, One Of Kenya’s Most Famous Lions is an article from: LifeDaily

When it was time for Mary Glasure to undergo her first chemotherapy treatment, she was in need of some uplifting. 

Glasure, 59, is a mom of seven, and one of her sons, Corey Hoffmaster, a U.S. Marine hadn’t been home in almost two years. As soon as he was able to come home on leave, Hoffmaster decided to surprise his mom in the most incredible way. 

Glasure was on a visit to Tony Teramana Cancer Center in Steunbenville, Ohio, when what appeared to be a new “doctor,” entered the room. Glasure, looked displeased, but politely saying, “ok.” Moments later, the “doctor” removed his surgical mask, and Glasure was quickly brought to tears when she realized that it was her son. 

“I needed my spirits boosted,” Glasure told TODAY.com. “It was once-in-a-lifetime thing for me. I never in a million years thought he would be coming back.”

The heartwarming surprise took place on March 16, and was captured on video by one of her sons, Cody Glasure. The family credited Glasure’s three daughters for coming up with the idea, and Hoffmaster was pretty excited about it. 

“The past few times he came home on leave, he didn’t surprise her, so he was really excited to do a surprise this time,” Cody Glasure told TODAY.com. 

Mary Glasure later admitted, “It was kind of funny because I thought it was another doctor and I was about to wig out. I was like, ‘What do they want now?'” Glazer’s cancer has spread to her spine and left lung, and she was waiting until Corey was on leave to tell him about her diagnosis.

“I needed him home because he’s my strength. Being in the Marines, he’s the matter-of-fact, you’ve-got-to-do-this type.”

I can’t stop cracking up over this mother-son duo. The apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree in this family!

Dalton Ross is a college student attending Belmont University. He’s originally from Nashville, Tennessee, but he left in January to study abroad in London, a long way away from his home and family.

Upon leaving, Dalton thought up a hilarious idea: send a cardboard cutout to Mom so she would have “a Dalton” to talk to.

“I was settling in and wasn’t talking to my mom as much,” Ross told The Huffington Post. “So, I thought it would be funny if she got an unexpected package that was a life-size version of me.”

Well, the apple clearly does not fall far from the tree because Mom has a better sense of humor than her son does.

Upon receiving the cardboard cutout, Susan Tally, Dalton’s Mom, decided to roll with it and bring her “son” to public outings.

First, there was a basketball game where you can barely see Dalton, but I assure you he’s still there:

But she DID NOT stop there. Susan really went all out and brought him to Easter brunch:

She brought him to sporting events:

She even had him tag along with her to run errands and grab a quick snack at Subway:

When Valentines Day rolled around, she couldn’t let her son be lonely, so she set him up on a hot date:

And, she even brought it back to childhood by reading bedtime stories with Dalton:

Best part? Talley didn’t email or text these pictures to her son.

“She uploaded them as she took them to Facebook, for all the world to see,” Ross, who asked not to have his Mom’s facebook page uploaded.

Mother and son will be happily (and probably hilariously) reunited soon enough. In regards to the cutout though, Dalton said, “I definitely plan to drop off the cutout in my morning classes next semester and then go back to sleep.”

Son Sends Mom Cardboard Cutout Of Himself As A Joke: She Goes With It is an article from: LifeDaily

A very dedicated postmaster has taken great customer service to a whole ‘nother level. 

David Shepherd, 26, from Stratton, Cornwall made a round trip of more than 600 miles to personally deliver a passport on time so a customer could catch a flight.

The passport was for Hugh Monro who was heading to Amsterdam to attend a charity board meeting, and he had to be there by 9am. After forgetting to give the passport to the postman, Shepherd knew he had to hand-deliver it to Monro. 

The entire trip entailed Shepherd driving over 50 miles, and taking two trains over the course of about 12 hours to make it to Rye where Monro was staying. 

Shepherd arrived just in time to Monro’s sisters home (where Monro was staying), and Monro was “amazed” to hear that Shepherd had beaten him to his sister’s house. 

“It shows how dedicated he is. Stratton is a fantastic place and David is a brilliant part of it,” says Monro. 

After delivering the passport, Shepherd had just 15 minutes to catch the train back to Cornwall, and the entire journey cost him more than $200. 

“It was a long journey but was all worth it to keep my customers happy,” he said. “People keep coming in and saying: ‘Can I have that hand-delivered please?’ But the feedback we’ve had for it is really, really positive.”

“If the Post Office has an award scheme for going above and beyond the call of duty, he should definitely receive recognition,” Munro added.

Monro gave Shepherd a bottle of champagne upon returning from Amsterdam and thanked him for his efforts.

Sweet puppy Harper was adopted at just 11-weeks-old and hasn’t seen her mom since that day. Months later, Harper’s pet parents decided it was time for a reunion and the result is just as precious as you can ever imagine.

My first reaction was that the pup was just really excited about seeing another dog, but her excited attitude tells me that she senses something special in the older dog.

We’re so lucky to have our canine companions, but this emotional video proves that a little fur family love is a good thing every once in a while, too!

Taylor Nefcy was asked to put her conversation on speakerphone for the entire class to hear as “Kevin” a fictional representative from “The Pregnancy Resource Center” called to confirm she and an out-of-the-picture father were expecting.

Miraculously, a neighbor spotted Clyde after recognizing him from a Lost and Found ad and returned him while Jared was at school. Jared’s parents knew they had to film the incredible moment Jared was reunited with his cat, and it was tearful to say the least.

Boy With Autism Is Reunited With His Cat And It’s Beautiful is an article from: LifeDaily

Life’s unexpected tragedies can often bring people closer together, but unfortunately, that reality is that it can often tear families apart as well.

Yet the following unusually uplifting story proves that some it can do both… you just might have to wait a very long time. It’s been more than 22 years since Lisa Hampson and Jim Powell had their son Ryan in 1993, and nearly two decades that they’ve been mourning him.

Hampson was just 18 years old when she gave birth to Ryan, who showed signs of perfect health until he appeared to have a cold developing at two and a half years old. Two days later, doctors diagnosed the Powell’s son with meningitis and he died hours later.

“I tried to get on with my life as best as I could. I started running half marathons for meningitis charities and raised thousands.” Hampson told the Daily Post UK the couple help eachother get through their son’s death, but ultimately had to split up.

“Jim moved away and got on with his life, but I always kept in touch with his mother.” Then, about two years ago tragedy struck again, when Hampson suffered a stroke. For the first time in about 16 years, Powell returned to his ex-wife’s side, explaining that he has always loved her. Neither of the two exes had ever remarried or had other kids and started to rekindle their long lost love.

A few months later, Hampson decided to take a pregnancy test, believe the effects of her stroke messed up her cycle. “How could I, at 40 years of age, after having a stroke, be pregnant?” she told Daily Post, but after a 16-week scan, tests revealed she would have another baby boy.

The couple’s son Oisan Ryan Powell was born last September and Hampson said “When the nurse first passed him to me, I thought at first it was Ryan. They looked so alike.”

Many dads struggle to find bonding activities to do with their sons when they don’t share any common interests, however, this incredible dad is proving the important thing isn’t what you do together, but that you do something together at all.

When Matt and Lori Duron first noticed their youngest son C.J.’s preference for stereotypical ‘girly’ things like dresses and makeup, they first thought he might be gay, but their youngest son has since made it clear that it was his gender, not his sexuality, that was in question.

Since then, Matt and Lori have become their son’s biggest supporters and advocate for his self-described ‘gender-creative’ identity. “We were looking for other families to connect to because we were trying to figure out how to deal with C.J., and so I started [my blog] to be the thing that I was looking for,” Lori said of her reason to start their blog “Raising My Rainbow.”

In a recent blog post, “Real Dads Let Their Sons Do Their Makeup,” Matt shared how he lets C.J. give him makeovers whenever he wants. “A couple of years ago, C.J. asked if I would allow him to do my makeup. Of course I said yes,” Matt said. “Why wouldn’t I? Why wouldn’t I want to be a part of something that brings joy to my son’s life?”

Rather than shut him out, and make him feel ashamed of his interests, Matt wants to make sure that C.J. knows that he will do anything with his son, as long as they get to spend quality time together. “While he’s doing my makeup, he talks about everything. From what’s going on at school to which eye shadow brings out my blue eyes,” Matt explained. “When I agree wholeheartedly as he discusses what makeup colors go with my skin tone, I’m teaching him that his opinions and tastes matter to me. I’m teaching him that I’ll listen to him when he wants to talk and I will find time for him even when I’m busy.”

“My son doing my makeup is the same as a dad throwing a football with his son. It’s not about what you are doing together; it’s about doing it together. It’s about encouraging your children to engage with you. It’s about spending time with your child doing something they enjoy doing.”

Amazing Dad Lets His ‘Gender Creative’ Son Give Him Makeovers is an article from: LifeDaily

The old saying ‘another man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ could not be truer for a Florida pastor and his wife.

When Florida ministries worker Mark Purcell was closing down and getting ready to go home one evening, he saw four or five trash bags lying on the ground outside. Yet as he got closer, he found two small children huddled between the trash bags in nothing but diapers.

Purcell and the Metropolitan Ministries later learned that the two boys were brothers, and they and their parents were homeless and living in a tent in the woods. Pastor Ronnie Stewart recognized the family because they regularly attended the Refuge Church’s soup kitchen, and asked if he could take the boys home to clean them up and let them get warm.

“They were covered in bug bites, head to toe. They were so filthy, that we actually had to bathe, and drain, and bathe again, two different times. The toddler who did have shoes on didn’t have any socks on. When we took his shoes off, the little skin on the top of his feet actually came off,” wife Krystal said.

But that one night turned into five months when the boys’ parents asked if they would take the 7-month and 2-year-old in, otherwise, they would be taken away by a social worker. “We just looked at each other and knew, there was no other option. Of course we said yes,” Krystal said.

The boys parents have since signed over custody to the Stewarts, and Ronnie and Krystal, who already have three kids of their own, are in the process of adopting the boys officially. “We don’t look at it as we are something special, we know that they are special, and we’re just excited to be part of their journey,” Krystal said.

To kick off April Fools’ Day, the Tasmanian Police Department released an impressive announcement this morning, which has been shared over 7,000 times in just a few hours, that informed the public that the department had been training pigs to use their adorable snouts to sniff out drugs.

“With pigs commonly believed to be among the smartest of animals, Tasmania Police will be the first in the country to develop a Narcotic Detection Swine Unit. The pigs have proven their capability in the field of truffle detection and experts suggest that it’s a logical next step,” the department wrote in their Facebook announcement.

Scenes like this with dogs sniffing out drugs and other substances at schools, airports, and crime scenes have become all too familiar, which is why many at first believed the department was really starting a pig unit.

However, many caught on to the prank as the department went on to explain: “When they detect a banned substance, they run around in circles singing LaLaLa until they get a carrot. Some prefer apples.”

Police Department Pulls Off Perfect April Fools’ Day Prank is an article from: LifeDaily

If you’re like most people, going to the dentist is a downright traumatizing experience, but this genius dentist has found a way to make patients not just relax during visits, but actually look forward to going.

To help calm down anxious and scared patients, the Pediatric Dentistry of Northbrook added a new four-legged helper named JoJo to their staff. JoJo is a trained Golden Retriever comfort dog who can sense when people are nervous and uneasy, and helps to calm them down. “She loves coming in. She’s very well trained and knows what she’s doing,” staff member Veronica Renteria said. “We all benefit from her so much.”

“A lot of the time, those patients would need nitrous oxide or other sedative to help them relax,” Renteria said. “But when JoJo comes in with them and sits in the chair, they’re comforted. They can just sit and pet her as they’re getting their teeth cleaned. She does a great job with them.”

Not only does JoJo help the patients at the Illinois clinic, but her presence even improves the doctor’s work environment as well.

“When the patients are very anxious or scared, they tend to move around a lot,” Renteria said. “When JoJo is there, the appointments go much smoother and quicker for them. And the doctor gets to perform the work as it’s meant to be done.”

“It was just so sweet,” cat’s owner and witness to this lovable act told BarkPost. “Finally cats will be seen as caring creatures, and not the rotten scratch-anything kill-birds-in-mid-air stereotypes they’re known so well for.”

As you can see in this adorable story about the U.S.’s only set of girl quintuplets, having more than one new bundle of joy in the house can be a lot of extra work. However, there’s no denying that a big family usually comes with more fun, love and laughs, too. Luckily, the Valencia family will have some extra help around the house in the coming years!

Up until recently, Monica Duenas and Juan Valencia were the proud parents of a 16-year-old daughter and 5-year-old twins, but they decided a sixth little one would make their family complete and tried for more.

“I said we should have one more — just four (total),” Duenas told KSL. “I want four. I would like to have four.”

Low and behold, the Ogden, Utah couple got their wish – and then some! When Duenas had her first ultrasound, she was shocked by not one, but two heartbeats. “They told us that we were having just two, so I said to my husband, ‘it’s OK. We had two already,” she told KSL.

The thought of another pair of twins must’ve been overwhelming…until the parents went back for ultrasound #2 and the doctor told the couple they would be having two more babies.

“I just said, ‘Lord, what am I going to do with four?'” Duenas told KSL, and even though doctors warned that the quadruplet pregnancy would be high-risk, they went forward with it.

“I lose them for some reason it’s because the Lord wants it that way. I’m just going to keep them,” she said and although it was a tough few months, on March 3 the mother gave birth to two boys and two girls.

Campbell took to Facebook to share her thoughts on the matter, and wrote:

“To the mother at nursery picking up your child. You may have thought I didn’t hear you but let me assure you I did!! When your child pointed out my SON had love hearts on his socks, and mocked them for being GIRLS socks you absolutely tore apart my faith in this world, because you agreed and laughed along with your child.”

She continued, “My son is 3 years old, he loves love hearts, he loves the colour pink, he loves to play with dolls and prams. But what he loves more than anything, is having the independence to make his own choices. He chose these socks in the shop, and he chose to wear them today.”

“It’s crazy how far and wide the story has spread in so little time,” the 32-year-old told TODAY. “I’m glad there are so many parents that have this issue, and are sharing their stories too. It’s made my ‘rant’ a little worthwhile.”

She added that her son Harry doesn’t have a clue about the post going viral. “He didn’t even know something was happening, which is why I didn’t say something at the nursery. You only have to look at Harry and you instantly fall in love with him. He’s so tiny for his age, so the thought of anyone hurting him physically or emotionally is tough,” Campbell said.

He’s spent countless hours protecting and making others feel safe, but when Sgt. Hogate calls in his final Code 3 to the dispatcher, he’s met by a voice that brings him to tears.

Hogate’s son, Douglas Hogate Jr. has been a dispatcher for Salem City Sheriff’s Office for 9 years, according to Fox 29, and wanted to be the one to honor his very own hero.

“It is a great pleasure to announce that after 1,800 hours on this date, after 28 years of service, my father, Salem City Police Sgt. Douglas Hogate Sr., Badge #612, is retiring and giving his final Code 3.

It is my honor… to acknowledge this Code 3 to the greatest man I know.”

It’s absolutely ghastly how some people treat their pets. I can’t believe somebody actually did this to this German Shepard.

Many stories above, a starving German Shepard had been left alone on a balcony for too long. Famished and dying, the poor beast threw caution to the wind and leapt in an attempt to find salvation in the streets below.

He burst through the door and pulled the dog up from the ledge, immediately taking her to receive emergency veterinary care.

She was pretty badly injured. The dog had a long rash from the chain yanking into her neck and she was starving to the point of emaciation.
