School Rallies Around Special Needs Student After Bully Beats Him Up

Bullies often choose the weakest targets who they can easily dominate either physically or mentally to boost their own self-esteem and hide their own insecurities, however, when one school bully decided to pick on and beat up a special needs student, he thought it would be an easy fight.

And it was. The bully easily took down the frightened boy, who mainly tried to protect himself during the attack, and at first, onlookers just took out their phones and filmed what was happening instead of jumping in and helping. Some students from the Santa Clarita high school can even be heard snickering as the victim, whose name has been withheld, falls to the ground.

Finally, however, two students step in and put an end to the unfair fight. “He has special education, why would you take advantage of something like that? Just walk away,” said student Matt Padilla. But as word spread about the fight, students were outraged and rallied behind the special needs boy.

“The entire school was ready to back this kid up, make sure he doesn’t get hurt anymore. Everyone wanted to make sure he was okay. At first, he was scared to come to school,” Padilla said. Together, the student came dressed in all black to show support and decided to stand up for anyone being bullied.

“Definitely, it made a lot people start thinking about it and start thinking maybe we should be looking at how we’re handling things and talking to people,” student Grayson Thomas said.

Video of a newborn baby being treated by a chiropractor has recently gone viral across the globe and the uncommon practice has everyone up in arms.

A 4-day-old baby girl in Australia who was not sleeping through the night, suffering from reflex, and terrible colic, or unexplained crying for hours at a time, was recently taken to the doctor, who filmed his treatment and uploaded it to YouTube by the page Chiropractic Excellence.

[Instagram]
[Instagram]
Baby Millicent was born two weeks premature and brought to see Dr. Ian Rossborough of Gonstead Chiropractic Society, who assessed a problem in her mid-back and adjusted her, as seen in the controversial video below.

Although the newborn was reportedly doing much better after her adjustment, the video has caused outrage online, with other doctors, parents, and strangers around the world condemning the dangerous practice. Since a newborn’s bones are so fragile, chiropractic adjustment isn’t usually recommended for health problems like Millicent’s, but Dr. Rossborough guarantees his service.

“When you see the patients returned with these children, they always report that the child is just so much more comfortable, they sleep so much better, they eat so much better,” the doctor says in the following video.

Mom Sees Baby Sticking Her Tongue Out In Shocking Ultrasound

Before Ocea Varney was even born, an ultrasound showed her tongue sticking out while she was still in mom’s belly.

At first, her mother Melanie, along with nurses thought it was cute, until they learned the shocking truth.

“I remember the technician saying ‘look how cute she is, she’s sticking her tongue out at you’. When she was born it was the first thing I noticed – I thought it was cute at first, but it caused some serious complications,” Melanie told the Mirror.

Ocea was bigger than her twin sister and her oversized tongue caused complications with feeding. This made Ocea very uncomfortable and also made breastfeeding impossible.

“When we were out at the store we would get comments about her tongue poking out – most of them said she was cute but others thought she was being rude. A couple of times people said it looked like she was thirsty and panting, as if she was some sort of dog. But she was miserable with it – I would try and breast feed her but she just couldn’t latch on,” Melanie describes.

Melanie and her husband were extremely worried, but confused as to why three doctors told them it was “just a phase.” These concerned parents were not buying it, and after doing their own research, they discovered Ocea had a rare genetic disorder called Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome. Usually categorized by overgrowth, this condition only occurs in one in every 11,000 births according to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Just to make sure this was what Ocea had, the family took her to see a specialist in Australia, who knew about the condition. As soon as the doctor saw Ocea, he told the family it BWS, which was heartbreaking for them to hear.

“But after three months, at least we finally had a diagnosis and could start doing something about it,” Melanie said.

At just seven months old, Ocea had tongue corrective surgery in Missouri and has continued to visit the hospital every six weeks to be screened for tumors.

Ocea is now a healthy youngster and is living a normal and happy life with her family.

To help others, Melanie created the website How Big BWS to bring attention to the condition, and to inform and educate families and medical professionals. Melanie said, “Our goal is to raise awareness about this syndrome. Up to a quarter of sufferers develop cancer so it’s important that an early diagnosis is made.”

“We want doctors to recognize BWS and ensure families know there is a support network out there for them. If that means getting people to pull a silly face then that’s worth it,” she added.

Sarah McBride is a 25-year-old transgender woman, who found herself in a place under much controversial debate- the bathroom.

But this wasn’t just any bathroom. It was one in a government building in Charlotte, North Carolina. North Carolina recently passed HB2, which a law that requires people to only use public bathrooms that correspond with the sex they are assigned at birth. But, being that McBride was traveling through North Carolina as the communications manager for LGBT Progress, she needed to use the bathroom. After her meeting at the Mecklenburg Government Center, McBride told BuzzFeed News that she decided to take action to challenge the law.

“Here I am using a women’s restroom in North Carolina that I’m technically barred from being in,” she writes in a photo caption.

“They say accepting me as the person I have fought my life to be seen as reflects the downfall of a once great nation,” she writes. “I’m just a person. We are all just people. Trying to pee in peace.”

McBride is trying to convey that “This is about real people being able to access the bathroom and being about to participate in public life.” “This isn’t about abstract issues or fears,” she continued.

“If you can’t use a bathroom that matches who you are, it becomes harder to go to work and it becomes harder to go to school,” she added.

And already, McBride’s selfie has gotten many reactions and shares from Facebook. Many applauded Bride saying, “This is utterly beautiful.” Another user wrote, “I would be proud to pee next to you anytime.” Someone commenters even said, “Some laws are made to be broken.”

McBride currently lives in Washington D.C. where she is free to use any bathroom she wants.

“There are a lot of people in North Carolina that have to live this every day,” she said adding that it is particularly harmful to transgender people with disabilities, transgender people of color and transgender youth. “We can’t forget those who are disproportionately impacted by this law because it’s too important.”

When you’re feeling sad, sick or lonely, there’s not much in life that can cheer you up better than the little girl in the following video.

Say hello to Anna and Laila the pit bull. Anna is a very sweet kid who likely gets her kind and thoughtful nature from her parents, who bring foster dogs into their home for people on active duty in the military or need to be hospitalized through an amazing program from PACT for Animals.

Anna is very wise for her young age and realizes that Laila’s main purpose in her home is to spend time with a loving family, not to keep her entertained. When Laila seems to be a little homesick and having some trouble falling asleep, little Anna comes up with the sweetest solution, singing to the dog who is in a strange place, far away from her owner.

When Anna sings “You Are My Sunshine” to the scared dog, she instantly comforts the pit bull and puts her right to sleep in her lap. It just melts our hearts to know that this dog won’t have to get stuck in a shelter or with someone who doesn’t care about her needs, while her owner is away serving our country.

Nine years ago, Alyssa and Michael Dunn were blessed with two beautiful baby girls, on one of the happiest days of their lives, but their bliss quickly turned to heartbreak when doctors noticed something disturbing about their newborns.

Infant identical twins Isabella and Madeleine appeared perfect in every way, but shortly after their birth, a routine doctor’s appointment uncovered devastating news. Baby Madeleine’s tiny belly was swollen and after the pediatrician administered an ultrasound, they were horrified to find out that she was suffering from a very rare form of infantile cancer.

Then, more heartbreak, when it was revealed that Isabella had the same cancer, likely acquired during development from her twin in their mother’s womb.

The outlook was very grim for the Dunn’s, who weren’t even able to touch their tiny twins, as they continued to get worse and endure chemotherapy. However, there was no modern medicine or treatment that could benefit the girls like the comfort of one another.

Although doctors warned that it would be very rare for both twins to survive the cancer, they started to get better after doctors put Isabella and Madeleine together. Their health began to vastly improve and over time, all signs of cancer had disappeared.

It was a miracle similar to that of these twins’ magic touch, but unforeseen in the medical community that has stumped doctors worldwide.

11-year-old Matthew Kirk was convinced he had been bitten by a mosquito when he nose became inflamed during a family trip to Menorca, Spain.

It was until his nostril doubled in size that his concerned parents sought medical help.

“Over a couple of weeks it grew considerably bigger and it was only when a friend made a comment about his swollen nostril that we thought it could be something worse,” Matthew’s mom Joanne told Mirror.co.uk.

While doctors first thought the swelling was caused by a bacterial infection, additional testing revealed it was caused by a deadly cancerous tumor called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. This very rare tumor of the connective tissue only affects about 10 people a year according to Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Matthew’s parents immediately flew down to Oklahoma where their son would get proton beam therapy. The intense treatment took 9 weeks, and it was done to target and destroy cancerous cells.

“Before treatment, we cut his hair short to stop the hair loss from chemotherapy being so traumatic for him. But he was strong about it all, he covered his head with a cap and would go into school whenever he could, he was so remarkably brave throughout it all,” Matthew’s mom said.

Matthew’s entire community actually helped pay for his family to fly down with him to the U.S., and when they returned to the UK, he underwent a final blast of intensive chemotherapy, and he is now living in the clear.

Joanne says, “When [Matthew] went into the school his classmates gave him a massive cheer and were so happy to see him back after such extreme treatment – it really warmed my heart.”

Dr. Dave Hobin, Matthew’s doctor added, “Matthew’s treatment included intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which can be demanding, especially for young people. Matthew was a real star, showing great courage and determination throughout this nine-month period. We’re really pleased with his progress and delighted to hear he’s enjoying all the things a young person of his age should be.”

When you can’t remember the last time you slept or took a shower and your newborn is screaming their tiny face off for the millionth time, it’s understandable why any new mom or dad can expect this whole parenting thing to just get easier over time, but anyone with more experience can tell you it’s usually just the opposite.

From watching your child deal with bullying or struggling in school, to growing up and learning the struggles and sacrifice that come with adulthood or being a parent themselves, it doesn’t always get easier in time. No one knows this better than a parent watching their child suffer from a disease, especially when that disease is addiction.

One of the hardest parts of being a deployed soldier, apart from putting their life in danger every day, is having to be away from friends and family for months and sometimes years at a time without any idea of when or if they’ll ever see their loved ones again.

Mike Vickers, a Tech Sergeant with the US Air Force, has been stationed in Turkey for the past nine months, and figured he would have to miss yet another one of his son’s birthdays. However, when he found out that he was going to have some leave time, he got on the first flight home, so that he could celebrate his son’s ninth birthday for the first time in years.

During the fourth inning of a Diamondbacks baseball game, Vickers snuck up behind his son Micah who was attending the game as his birthday present. “His reaction was priceless,” Vickers described. “It was hilarious to me, you know he was just like, dad?”

Most able-bodied people don’t realize how fortunate they are to be able to do anything they want on their own, but for people with physical handicaps or disabilities, everyday life is full of challenges and obstacles that sometimes require some help.

When a man walked into a Cinco De Mayo Mexican Grill in Douglasville, Georgia, his server, Alex Ruiz, noticed there were bandages around his wrists, and he didn’t have any hands. When it came time to order, he asked if there was anyone who could help him eat the meal, and Ruiz didn’t think twice to help the man.

Another customer, Reginald Widener, was watching their interaction, and was speechless when he watched Ruiz sit down in the booth across from the man, and start feeding him. “So I’m at cinco de mayo and Alex (server) had a man come in with no hands. So Alex is now helping the man eat his lunch. This seriously hit me right in the soul,” Widener wrote alongside the picture he took, which has now gone viral.

“I said I would help … and from the bottom of my heart, I really wanted to help him,” 22-year-old Ruiz said. “I didn’t mean for it to cause a lot of attention … I just wanted to help.”

Ruiz sat with the man for 30 minutes while he made conversation with him and hand fed him his taco, rice, and beans. After the meal, he took the man’s money to the cashier and brought him back the change. Later, Ruiz went back to work like nothing had happened, but his coworkers we moved by what they had witnessed. “Everyone at work was telling him what a great guy he was. That’s just something you don’t  see. A person feeding a stranger,” waitress Crystal Figueroa said.

While many animals look cute and fluffy on the outside, people seem to forget than ANY wild animal, no matter how big or small, are capable of inflicting incredible damage if they feel uncomfortable or threatened.

While on a trip to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Brett Johnson took his son to go see the famous ‘Old Faithful’ geyser, but when they arrived, he spotted a woman walk across a field where a huge bison was laying out in the warm sun. He immediately warned his son not to get any closer, as the 2,000-pound animal could become aggressive at any moment.

Incredibly, however, the bison remained completely calm as the reckless woman walked right up to it. At first, she stood in front of it for a few minutes just watching and touching its sharp horns.

When it made no moves to attack her, she even started petting its head as if it were a giant puppy. After a few minutes, she gave it a last pat, and then casually walked away as if she hadn’t just done something incredibly dangerous and risky.

lemonade stand

While most kids will be opening lemonade stands to earn extra pocket money this summer, 9-year-old Tristan Jacobsen has a special reason for doing it.

When Tristan’s biological mother abandoned him at a shelter for years ago, Donnie and Jimmy Davis took Tristan into their Michigan home.

The Davis’ have been a part of Tristan’s life since he was just 3 months old, but had to give up custody when he was 2 and a half. Tristan’s biological mother wanted her son back but after making destructive decisions that were harming Tristan, Davis was contacted by police to take Tristan. Without hesitation, Davis was happy she could finally bring Davis back to her home. Tristan was 5 when he was reunited with Davis, and in 2014, Davis became Tristan’s legal guardian.

“The beginning of this year, we said we were going to do the level adoption,” Davis said.

But the legal fees for adoption were getting close to $10,000 which Davis and her husband could not afford.

Anything I could downgrade to save money, I did,” said Davis, noting the family got cheaper cell phone service, cheaper internet and television plans, and canceled summer vacation plans and started planning a yard sale.”

Tristan, wanted to help raise the money, so he decided to set up his own lemonade stand, and he sat outside his home in Springfield selling bottles of lemonade he made from lemonade packets.

“He wants the adoption really, really badly,” Donnie Davis told ABC News.

Surprising everyone, the lemonade stand wound up attracting hundreds of people. We had people drive over 2 and a half hours to come see Tristan,” Davis said.

The family wound up raising $7,100 in total, and the bulk of the money came from the lemonade stand which raised them $6,500.

Davis also set up a fundraising page on YouCaring.com that has raised over $9,000 and counting. Davis is now confident that they will have the funds they need to pay all of the legal fees.

“I’m kind of in shock from all the support we’ve received,” Davis said.

Tristan’s formal adoption should be finalized by October 2016.

Vanessa Rosales contacted Hope for Paws after a scared dog kept running away anytime anyone approached her.

She described that the dog would always run into an enclosed property, making it nearly impossible for anyone to save her.

Lisa Chiarelli from Hope for Paws immediately made her way over, and when she arrived, construction workers allowed her onto the property. To her surprise, laying there in an overturned garbage can was the dog and also a puppy!

Vanessa told Lisa it was possible the dog had puppies recently, but she couldn’t confirm it because she had never seen them. While it’s usually unlikely for a dog to have just one puppy, volunteers asked construction workers where the other puppies were and they said that 4 days ago, kids had stolen the other 5 puppies. They ask the men where they could find the kids, but they had no idea.

They fed the dogs hamburgers and eventually tried to lure them out of the overturned garbage bin they were living in, which was surrounded by filthy beer bottles.

When you are a parent, you will likely do whatever you can to protect your children from the harsh realities of the world.

However, there’s only so much we can do for our children. From hatred and violence on TV to the bullying and unfair treatment they can see at school, we can’t always control the actions of other people, but as you’ll see in the following video posted to YouTube, we can teach them to stand up for what’s right.

“Gotta love a casual morning bus ride in Sydney lol this was on the M91 bus between Chester Hill and Granville,” YouTuber J Kalon wrote below the video he titled Crazy Chick On The Bus. No matter where you live, you can always find a few crazy people riding the bus, but while most people know not to mess with them and choose to mind their own business, one mom joined by her kids wasn’t going to take her behavior sitting down.

When U.S. Army veteran Mike Hicks was visiting the Hawaiian island of Oahu with his wife, he never thought he’d actually get in the ocean.

Due to a terrible accident, Mike was left with a broken back and he lost all use of everything below his waist. Unable to walk, his bucket list dream of dipping his toes in the Hawaiian ocean didn’t look too promising.

But Mike’s wife, Ann, was determined to get him into the water. She decided to approach the lifeguard stand and told the man named Hizson Keali’i Sr., his story.

Ann explained how badly Mike wanted to dip his toes in the water, but he was in a wheelchair.

“It touched my heart, ’cause I’m blessed every day to be able to do what someone else only dreams of,” Keali’i, 45, told The Huffington Post. So he told the couple to come back the next morning.

When they arrived, Keali’i used a beach wheelchair to navigate a bank of sand and guide Mike into the water. Since it was Mike’s first time back in the ocean since the accident, Keali’i said he was grinning from ear to ear. But this was just the first day. The next time Mike and Ann returned to the beach, Keali’i wanted to take Mike surfing.

He carried the veteran into the water, helped him onto a stand-up paddle board and paddled Mike into some waves.

The look on Mike’s face was absolutely priceless, and the experience was everything he hoped for and more.

It was “a fantastic feeling of speed and freedom,” Mike told the Huffington Post. “Something I never thought I would ever feel again.”

And he was happy Keali’i’s friend captured the entire thing on camera. “‘My mind said, ‘Dude, this is a Kodak moment!'” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Now that’s some aloha!

Even if you think you know everything about your family’s history, chances are pretty great that you will discover something you never even thought about if you go digging through the past.

That’s exactly what happened when a Post Falls, Idaho man decided to do a little research about his ancestry. When Conrad Underdahl started looking at his family tree, he noticed something strange. He had to go back generations and generations before finding a female born into the Underdahl family.

[KREM]
[KREM]
For more than 100 years, Conrad’s family only produced men, a coincidental tradition that seemed like it would never end. So you can imagine the excitement when one of Conrad’s four sons, finally got the news everyone had been waiting for. “Everyone has been hoping for a girl,” Scott Underdahl told the Coeur d’ Alene Press. “I didn’t know what an Underdahl girl looked like.”

[KREM]
[KREM]
Scott and his wife Ashton, who have a toddler son, Asher, were thrilled to give the first girl the Underdahl name since 1914, when baby Aurelia was born, second to her great-great-aunt Bernice.

“Maybe it took more than 100 years to create perfection,” excited grandfather Conrad Underdahl told Coeur d’ Alene Press. “She’s a cutie. We’ve been spoiling her a bit because it’s just different finally holding a baby girl.”

[KREM]

Even mom and dad said they were expecting a boy, although they couldn’t be happier. “I wasn’t mentally prepared for a girl,” said Ashton. “Pink was a shock. Headbands, the girl aisle is overwhelming.”

A gorilla who always wanted to be a mom finally had her wish come true recently… much to the surprise of her caretakers!

The unexpected arrival of a newborn baby gorilla at the Prague Zoo has zookeepers and goers alike very excited. After many years of wanting a little one, but multiple miscarriages, Shinda the gorilla finally has a child of her own.

Just like humans, Shinda was heartbroken to watch the other gorillas and their babies after suffering the miscarriages, so zookeepers were led to believe she was unable to have children. When Shinda recently put on some weight in her stomach region, zookeepers assumed the gorilla’s belly was swollen from her healthy appetite, not because of a baby bump.

“I cannot imagine what could have surprised me more. Not only did we fail to notice Shinda’s pregnancy but we also gave up all hope that she could have a baby some time ago,” zoo director Miroslav Bobek said.

Shinda, who first arrived at the world famous Czech Republic zoo in 2003, could be seen cradling her tiny newborn over the weekend. The 24-year-old was a natural with her surprise baby, who zookeeper David Vala believes will give her more dominance amongst the other gorillas.

“She lost her dominant position among the females a year ago, but with a baby, her prestige in the group is probably going to increase again,” he told Mother Nature Network.

Mom Gets Shamed On Facebook After 7-Year-Old Rides On A Motorcycle

When Mallory Torres’ boyfriend took her 7-year-old daughter for a ride on his motorcycle, she did not expect the backlash that was about to ensue.

A driver apparently snapped a photo of the two and posted it into a social media group. The photo shows the 7-year-old on the back of the motorcycle, wearing her pink tennis shoes and pink backpack. She was wearing a full-face helmet and holding onto Torres’ boyfriend John Hays, but that did not stop commenters from going crazy.

It enraged Torres so much that she took to her own Facebook to fire back.

“Some of you may have seen this picture on Facebook, and some of you may have even seen this in person…This is my 7 year old daughter riding home from school on a motorcycle. Yes. She’s 7, and she’s on a motorcycle. ‘Why?’ Some of you may ask… Because I love my daughter. That’s right… I LOVE MY DAUGHTER and she loves to ride, so I allow her to ride on the back of a motorcycle in full gear with my boyfriend who has 20+ years of experience.

Torres continued, “I WILL continue to keep my kids happy and pray that they are safe whether it be at school, at home, at a friend’s house, on the basketball court, or on a motorcycle. I’ll tell you what i WON’T do though. I won’t keep my child from riding just because a handful of close-minded, ignorant people think they are the definition of a “perfect parent”. THERE IS NO POINT IN BEING ALIVE IF YOU AREN’T LIVING!!!?”

While Mallory admits motorcycles are dangerous and her daughter could get hurt because there are unsafe drivers on the road, she says that the same could be said for parents who drive cars and allow their kids to play a sport. Torres, a bakery shop owner, says that everyone has their own way of parenting, so she does not deserve to be judged by strangers.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a child can ride on the back of a motorcycle if they are at least 5-year-old and wear a helmet.

WMCTV news personality “Biker Dad” Chris Best, interviewed the girl’s mom, Mallory Torres, and her boyfriend, John Hays II. Click below to watch.

What do you think about this mom allowing her child to ride on the back of a bike?

When professional photographer Meg Bitton recently shared a portrait of a young client on Facebook, she wanted to prove a point, but she had no idea just how much attention the post would quickly gain.

As you can see in this shocking story about a mom who used costumes to try to make her own point about North Carolina’s controversial transgender bathroom laws, it’s a subject that has everyone talking – and quick to form their own opinions. While most parents were quick to agree with the “pirate mom’s” stance on how an eye patch and parrot doesn’t make her a pirate and therefore a dress shouldn’t automatically give a man rights to the women’s restroom, the parents of Bitton’s young client bring up a much more important topic.

“If this was YOUR daughter, would you be comfortable sending her into a men’s bathroom?” the post on Bitton’s Facebook page read. “Neither would I. Be fair. Be kind. Be empathetic. Treat others how you would like to be treated.” With it, she shared a portrait of 14-year-old transgender girl and public figure Corey Maison. Unsurprisingly, Bitton had to go on to explain to the Facebook community that this means Corey was born with male anatomy but identifies as female.

“Under the new laws, SHE would be forced to use the men’s room. Therefore, I would not be comfortable sending HER into the men’s room if she was my daughter,” Bitton wrote.

While so many are quick to fear the worst from trans adults using the restrooms assigned to them at birth, not enough people are thinking about the trans youth who will be forced to be put in such a terrifying and uncomfortable situation.

What do you think about this sweet young girl being forced to use the men’s room? How would you feel if she were your daughter?
