While doctors have been able to understand and explain even the most minute functions within the human body, sometimes things happen that are beyond reason or scientific explanation.
70-year-old Mary Ann Franco has been blind for more than two decades after she gradually lost her vision when she injured her spine in a car accident. “I was fully blind,” Franco explained. “All I could see was blackness.” Franco continued to live her life as independently as she could, yet her age and her disability have made her more unsteady than ever.
This past August, Franco had been walking around her Florida home when she tripped on her tile floor, and hit her head. While she wasn’t seriously injured, Franco needed surgery to fix the damage.
Four hours later, Franco was slowly waking up from the anesthesia and was too groggy to notice she could see everything around her. “I looked towards the foot of my bed and said, ‘Hey, lady in purple, get me something for pain’,” Franco said. “I was in so much pain, I wasn’t nice— and I’m always nice.”

“My niece said: ‘what did you say?’ and I realized I could see,” Franco explained. Not only did she gain her eyesight back, but she had been born colorblind and was now seeing everything perfectly.
While doctors have no word for what happened to the 70-year-old, Franco is confident she just experienced a miracle from God. “I believe he just went ahead and gave it to me, he gave me back my sight,” she told WPBF News. “I really believe this with all my heart.”

Parents are supposed to be there for their children 24 hours of the day, seven days a week, which is why so many parents were shocked when this mom and dad explained that they spend every weekend kid-free.
Rachael Finch and her husband Michael Miziner first met in 2010 on the Australian version of ‘Dancing With the Stars’, and married two years later in 2013. Shortly after, they welcomed their first daughter named Violet into the world and their priorities shifted from their career and social lives to their daughter. “The priorities have become Violet and family, because you have this little thing that’s dependent on you,” Finch said.
However, parents criticized the couple for ‘neglecting’ and ‘abandoning’ Violet when Finch admitted that the couple sends her to stay at her 85-year-old paternal grandmother’s house every weekend so they can have one-on-one time and maintain their social lives.

“Every weekend (Violet) goes to Mish’s mum’s house, and we get our weekend to ourselves. I think that’s incredibly healthy for the relationship. And on Sunday, when we pick her up, we have 100 percent energy back,” Finch said. But other parents couldn’t help but point out that the 2-year-old was being treated as an accessory, and would eventually resent not being a valued member of the family.
After the backlash, Finch took to her social media accounts to defend her choices as a parent. “A Mother should never be made to feel they are not good enough for their child when they are doing everything they can to keep them safe, happy and loved. Only the parents of a child truly know what is best and should always have faith in their decisions.”

Over 80,000 residents in Fort McMurray’s in Canada were forced to evacuate their homes due to a massive wildfire sweeping the area.
Unable to return to their homes, residents were unable to get any crates needed to transport their pets on the airplane, so West Jet and Canadian North airlines made an exception. They decided to make the evacuation process easier for these displaced residents by allowing them to fly with their pets in the cabin.
Pilot Keith Mann, who was responsible for flying about 6,000 people this week says,
“We’re all animal lovers here. We knew it was important for owners to re-connect with them,” he told thestar.com.

Because the policy didn’t make sense given the circumstances, Mann recalls, “I just said, ‘No, let’s do this.’ Everyone wanted to get out, so it didn’t matter.”

And for the most part, Mann describes it being pretty quiet while they were upon the air. “You could just tell everyone was happy to be out of camp and on their way,” he says.

But, one flight was a bit peculiar — it was like 101 Dalmations on a plane, except it involved “cats, dogs, rabbits and chinchillas . . . you name it,” Mann said.

Two dogs had to be stored in the bathroom for the safety of the rabbits and chinchillas, and there was a pooch family of five that were huddled together.

When it was time for 18-year-old McKenna Pilling to move out of her dorm room at Utah State University, her loving mother drove up to help.
Deanna drove from New York, and didn’t tell McKenna when she made it to the dorm, in an attempt to surprise her.
Deanna walked into what she thought was McKenna’s room and laid down on her bed.

She snapped a selfie and sent it to McKenna, only to discover she was in the wrong room!
McKenna told BuzzFeed News,
“No one was in there so she laid down for five minutes in the wrong bed and decided to send me a picture as a surprise.”
McKenna knew her mom was in the wrong room, since she was in her room.

And as soon as she told her, mom felt sick to her stomach and ran out. McKenna, however, decided to tweet her mom’s amazing text, and it has been retweeted over 18,000 times!

“My intention was only for family and friends to see, hence the caption, ‘Momma Pilling at it again,’ because the people I know know her as ‘Momma Pilling’,” Pilling said. “But once it got bigger and bigger we just couldn’t stop laughing because it was so unexpected.”

New moms and dads want to give their newborns the best of everything to keep them healthy and happy, however, sometimes they can unknowingly be doing more harm than good.
When it comes to sleeping, for example, many parents think surrounding their newborns with soft, plush blankets and cute stuffed animals on a comfy mattress pad. While parents mean well, all of these things can strangle or suffocate babies and cause sudden unexpected infant death (SUID). Ideally, babies should sleep on a firm surface in their backs in their parent’s room.
In an attempt to lower infant mortality rates, Temple University Hospital in Philidelphia decided to give every new mom a free baby box that serves as a safe bed.
“Suffocation is the leading cause of infant deaths,” said Jennifer Rodriguez, director of nursing services at Temple University Hospital. “The baby boxes are a safe sleeping environment that prevents parents from having their children sleep in the same bed as them.”

“We weren’t sure how people were going to react to putting their babies in a box, but it’s been an overwhelmingly positive response,” Dr. Megan Heere, assistant professor of pediatrics at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, said.

For the family of 2-year-old Jackson Coley, his precious visit with Snow White was not just a sweet moment— it was a breakthrough.
Jackson is a shy boy who doesn’t interact with strangers, and he was diagnosed with nonverbal autism just two weeks after his trip to Disney world.
With the headline, “Autism and Disney— When your 2-year-old falls in LOVE with Snow White,” Jackson’s mom, Amanda Coley, posted a video of her son meeting Snow White on her Facebook page.
Coley reposted the video on YouTube and captioned it, “This is my 2 year old – Jack. He was having nothing to do with any of the characters on our Disney vacation in November. You see, he has autism and is non-verbal. He is on the shy side with people he does not know. THEN… he met Snow White. I must have cried 1000 tears watching his interaction with her. He was in love.”

In the precious video, Jackson sat down with Snow White and didn’t leave.”He just suddenly melted and was perfectly content,” Coley describes. Something was different about Jackson’s interaction with her.
“It was almost that little breakthrough that he won’t always be so scared of other people,” she said. “That he will sit there and let somebody else love on him.”

Coley hopes that Jackson’s love for Snow White, will encourage other parents’ autistic children.
“Take them places and try things,” Coley says. “We had no idea how Jack Jack would react to Snow White the way he did. You truly never know what’s going to touch them and bring a reaction out of them that you’re not used to seeing.”

Today, Jackson enjoys watching his video with Snow White over and over again. He even points to the computer saying “more” in sign language. Coley still wonders why he loves it so much, and she believes “Maybe it’s a sense of security.”

For 9 months, a Memphis, Tennessee teen was too sick to go to school and unable to chew or swallow food.
15-year-old Kennedy Odom, began experiencing these problems after she was given braces. Kennedy would have lesions around and inside her mouth, and she was in constant pain, making numerous trips to the doctor. Sadly, doctors did not know what was wrong with Kennedy, despite checking for strep throat, Stevens Johnson Syndrome, and everything they could think of.
Kennedy’s mom, Cicely Odom-Rose was sad to see her daughter in so much pain. She told WMC action news 5,
“Kennedy is my only child and just watching her suffer, you can’t do anything to help your child and the people who are knowledgeable don’t know how to help you.”
Kennedy was unable to chew or swallow food, and Cicley says, “Here in Memphis everything is centered around food, so she would avoid eating and, of course, I would not want to eat around her.”
So, Cecily and her mother decided to do some research on their own and turned to the internet. It was then that her family realized that the problem was Kennedy’s braces. When doctors zeroed in on the braces, they discovered Kennedy has a nickel allergy.

“Where the nickel was touching her mouth, her mouth had the outbreak of these lesions,” said Dr. Godat. “In her case, she has a hyper-immune system for lots of things.”
According to the Asthma Allergy Clinic, this is only the second documented case in Shelby County that they know of where a child has a nickel allergy brought on by braces. Looking back, Kennedy’s mom wishes she knew the symptoms of a nickel allergy sooner. “To me, it’s important to let parents know to be aware and to be diligent and be proactive when it comes to your child’s health, because no one knows your child better than you,” she said.
Kennedy had her braces removed last month.

One Boston couple came up with a special and unique way to welcome their child into the world.
Timi and Maria Wusu, both resident physicians, took a scene from The Lion King and recreated with it their daughter, Kaiori, just one day after she was born.
In the adorable video below, Timi acts as Rafiki and performs the ritual in front of Maria and Kaiori, as The Circle Of Life Plays In the background.

Timi says his friends were not surprised that he and Maria went the extra mile to announce their baby to the world.
“Finally our wonderful, healthy, child was born, and I had been itching to show her off,” Timi said. “The ‘Lion King’ theme had been in my mind for months, and I just knew that Kaiori needed to be introduced with similar grandeur and hilarity,” according to abc news.

When Tonya Andrews’ beloved cat of 16-years died on the way to the vet, her students did something incredible to lift her spirits.
Rachel Hanhart, a student in one of Andrews classes in Joshua High School, told ABC News that her teacher began to cry during college statistics class.
When the students asked what was wrong, Mrs. Andrews replied, “’I’m sorry, my 16-year-old cat named Blondie died yesterday.’” Hanhart said, “She kind of lost it and started bawling at one point.”
So that’s when Hanhart and her friends Makayla Comer, Ashlei Mahan and Sheridan Swindell decided to surprise Mrs. Andrews.
They purchased flowers, brought cupcakes, and the ultimate surprise- 2 newborn kittens!

Hanhart recalled,
“My mom looked online to find kittens in Fort Worth that needed a home.”
They brought the kittens to school, and they moment they surprised Andrews, she was in disbelief!

“Are they mine?” Andrews asked, while cradling her new kittens. She was moved to tears.
Andrews told the Huffington Post, “My heart was filled with joy. [I’ll] never forget our sweet, sweet Blondie, but my heart can now experience happiness again.”
Hanhart added that Mrs. Andrews was going to get new kittens soon, but they beat her to punch.
“Mrs. Andrews doesn’t know about her fame yet, but we certainly didn’t do it for this. Her happiness was the most amazing part,” Hanhart said.
Unfortunately, almost all breastfeeding mother will find themselves being shamed or harassed at one point or another by strangers who feel it’s inappropriate, yet one young mom never expected to be shamed for breastfeeding by a nurse in the hospital.
18-year-old Darcie Pennington was visiting the Royal Liverpool Hospital with her three-month-old son and mother to see her grandmother who was sick with cancer. When she began breastfeeding her son in her grandmother’s semi-private room, a nurse approached her and forced her into a private room as it was making a man uncomfortable.
“I was shocked by what she had said and told her politely that I am legally allowed to feed my child wherever I like. And I considered I was feeding in a fairly private area anyway, with my back to the room,” Pennington wrote in a post to Facebook. “Another nurse then came up and said they were protecting my dignity.”

“I’ve fed everywhere, shopping centres, shops, cafes – and I’ve never had a problem like this before. I can’t believe this attitude came in a hospital, and from nurses.”
‘I asked if dignity would need to be protected if I was feeding with a bottle, and I was told that no, because feeding with a bottle was not sexual. When I went to sit back down to resume the feed the nurse stormed over and rudely tugged the curtain around us. I was incredibly hurt, upset and embarrassed.”

Soon after, Pennington and her mother felt so uncomfortable they had to leave the hospital, who later apologized for the misunderstanding. “If I wasn’t so passionate and they had confronted someone who was new to breastfeeding they could have made them feel like they weren’t doing the right thing and to me that is appalling behaviour,” Pennington said.

We’ve all been told how eating too much fast food will eventually kill you, however, it seems one Salem man’s daily diet of Domino’s pizza is the very thing that’s kept him alive.
48-year-old Kirk Alexander has been ordering food from his local Domino’s nearly every single day for about 7 years, and it didn’t take long for the staff to start recognizing his orders and even getting to know him a little bit. “He orders every day, every other day,” general manager Sarah Fuller said. “His order pops up on the screen because he orders online. So we see it come across the screen and we’re like, ‘Oh, Kirk’s order.’”
So when Alexander didn’t order for a few day, they all thought it was surprising but they weren’t concerned. Once 11 days passed without a single order, however, they started to get worried. Fuller decided to send Tracey Hamblen, an employee who had delivered many of Kirk’s orders in the past, to check and see he was ok.

When Hamblen got there, he noticed the lights and tv were on but when he knocked on the door no one answered, and Alexander’s phone went straight to voicemail. Luckily, Hamblen remembered he had health issues and called 911 immediately.

Alexander was found lying on the floor of his home after having a stroke, but was rescued just in time thanks to Hamblen. “He orders all the time, so we know him. I think we were just doing our job checking in on someone we know who orders a lot. We felt like we needed to do something,” Fuller said.

While new parents hope their four-legged babies get along with their newborn, they can sometimes get jealous and resent the fact that someone has stolen their spotlight, which is why one couple’s friends suggested they might have to get rid of their dog, Keola.
But 21-year-old Alhanna Butler and husband Ricky, 25, couldn’t bare to separate with their beloved dog who was the first one to even realize Alhanna was expecting. “We did test after test but with no luck. They just kept coming up negative,” Alhanna said.
“One day I had binned a negative test and gone out shopping. When we returned, Keola had gone through the bin and had got the pregnancy test out of the bin. She had never touched the bins before so it was very odd. She was sat with it in front of her like she was trying to tell us something.”
“I grabbed it and saw a faint second line – I couldn’t believe it. I showed Ricky straight away and said Keola was saying I was pregnant but he said the line was too faint and it was just coincidence so we binned it again,” Alhanna said. But Keola was right, they were two weeks pregnant.

“We were both over the moon and we realised that Keola was truly a special dog who could detect things that we couldn’t.” But 16 weeks later, Alhanna went to the hospital complaining of intense pain and sickness, which doctors brushed off as nothing.
Keola sensed something was wrong, however, and tried desperately to tell them.
“No one really understood how ill I was – but Keola did. She would nudge me and cry and I could never figure out why she had suddenly started doing this. Ricky said she was distraught whenever I went to work, when she had never minded before,” Alhanna said.

Alhanna finally decided to listen to Keola, but when she arrived at the hospital, she collapsed and almost died from an antibiotic-resistant bug and a double kidney infection. Doctors were able to save Alhanna and her unborn son, but warned that if she had come in even one day later, she would most likely be dead. “I have absolutely no doubt that both me and Lincoln would not be here today if it wasn’t for Keola,” she said.

When you think of animals that enjoy a nice mid-day nap in the sun, plenty of animals, like cats, dogs, and even sloths, come to mind. Horses, however, are not one of those animals, which is why one farmer was stunned when he went out to check on his horses.
At first, the farmer was alarmed when he look out at the field. He expected to see his horses standing around and grazing on the grass like usual, but instead the field looked completely empty.
He started panicking and thinking he may have accidentally left a gate open and lost his horses, but when he stepped outside he was relieved when he spotted all of his horses laying on their sides.

The farmer still couldn’t figure out what the horses were up to, but as he stepped closer, he couldn’t help but laugh when he heard their loud snoring and realized they were just enjoying a blissful nap in the sun.

Many of us will take a few things into consideration when deciding how much to give a couple as a wedding gift.
First, we’ll look at the venue, and factor in cost per plate. Then, we’ll calculate a suitable amount based on if we’re attending alone or with a guest. And some people may even wait until they arrive at a wedding to write a check.
But when one woman gave her ex-colleague what was considered an “insufficient” wedding gift, she took to the forum, Mumsnet, to share her rage. She writes that she gave the couple, £100, which is the equivalent of about $145. A few days after she the wedding, she received an email that read:
“We were surprised that your contribution didn’t seem to match the warmth of your good wishes on our big day. In view of your own position, if you wanted to send any adjustment it would be thankfully received.”
Puzzledandpissedoff, (which is what she calls herself) added that “‘your own position’ probably refers to a recent inheritance I’ve had, which maybe they expected something from (and this is an ex-colleague, remember, not a close friend or relative).”
Puzzledandpissedoff (P&P) tells the Guardian that she was “utterly gobsmacked,” and users immediately began flooding in offering her advice. Some suggested to cancel the check altogether and others said to write the bride a snarky response.
Instead, she sent the newlyweds the following reply:
“I assume this was some sort of a mistake?”
P&P notes that she could have asked around to see if anyone else received a similar email, but at that point, it probably wouldn’t have solved anything. She has yet to receive an email back from the couple.

Don’t you love when a man stops a woman from doing her job so he can take over and ‘improve’ on her quality of work?
In this case, we have no objections. A flower girl at a recent wedding got distracted amidst her duties. Due to the fact that she was only about 2-years-old, the tot had no idea what this crazy hubbub was all about and found herself wandering off to look at the pretty butterflies.
[Youtube]Now, this is when the ring-bearer took it upon himself to fix the situation and take her job upon himself. He too wanders off the beaten path, picks up a big chunk of her flower petals, and dumps them at all once on the ground.
What a way to get things done…
We find this little pair adorable. When I get married, I hope I have an equally adorable pair joining me for my bound down the aisle.

You don’t have to own a cape to be a hero. Sometimes, all you have to wear is your heart on your sleeve.
A Morrisons grocery clerk who works in Basingstoke, England had this exact quality of heartfelt compassion that makes a hero.
Sometimes the clerk sees Amanda Wilkins, a Mom who has two children, both of whom are registered blind and also autistic. She knows the family in passing and on this particular occasion, both Amanda’s children decided to have a full-blown meltdown in the middle of the checkout line.
Thankfully, the clerk knew what to do, a kind gesture that has gone on to be shared more than 100,000 times on Facebook after Mom snapped a pic.
I would like to say a massive thank you to the lady in the photo ( sorry didn’t see her name) who helped me today at Morrisons in Basingstoke.
I have two children that are both registered blind and are also autistic. As you can imagine shopping is not an easy thing for me to do, at the checkout both girls decided to go into meltdown and this very kind lady decided to help instead of judge. It doesn’t happen very often!
She distracted my daughter by letting her scan all my shopping. A dream come true for Holly who loves playing ‘shops’. It melts my heart to come across people that are prepared to go the extra mile, and little acts of kindness makes a massive difference to my world.
I hope this gets back to her and she knows how much we appreciate it.

It’s hard to imagine how anyone would ever want to hurt an animal, but sadly there are countless homeless and helpless dogs like this next one who are badly suffering.
Thankfully, there are heroes like the team from Animal Aid Unlimited to give some of the lucky ones a second chance. AAU is a charity rescue organization based out of India, a country with more than one billion people and nearly as many strays.
Just like in this unbelievable rescue mission from Animal Aid Unlimited, where they saved a tiny puppy from a sewage pipe, Lola is a dog who was found on the brink of death.
“We found her lying in a trash pit with a gaping hole in her stomach,” AAU described the shocking discovery of Lola on their website. The good Samaritans who first saw the injured dog said she was hurt three days earlier, but then disappeared or they would have called sooner.
