New Dad Has His Dream Come True When He Gets To Hold His Newborn On Father’s Day

[Iowa City Press Citizen]

There’s nothing quite like holding your newborn son and looking in their beautiful blue eyes for the first time, but for new Dad, Darrel Wanzer-Serrano, this was not a possibility.

That’s because his little guy was born more than three months early. Carlos Jesús “CJ” Wanzer-Serrano was born May 15, a few days after his mother, Nicole Wanzer-Serrano, started showing signs of preeclampsia and had to be admitted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The condition can cause high blood pressure and kidney problems in pregnant women, Iowa City Press-Citizen reports.

[Iowa City Press Citizen]
[Iowa City Press Citizen]
“(Nicole) was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome, which is like super-preeclampsia,” Darrel said. “She was admitted on a Wednesday, and we basically were preparing ourselves for a long-term stay at the hospital. Early that Sunday morning, she was not feeling right, and they had to perform an emergency C-section.”

[Iowa City Press Citizen]
[Iowa City Press Citizen]
Darrel said the surgery was necessary to save Nicole’s life, but CJ already was small for a fetus 24 weeks and three days old, and he still had another 3½ months until his Sept. 1 due date.

However, 5 weeks after CJ was born, Dad finally got his wish to hold his son.

[Iowa City Press Citizen]
[Iowa City Press Citizen]
Darrel and Nicole said they hope to have CJ come home by the time of his original due date, Sept 1. The couple said they recognize, however, that the boy will have a make significant progress — and grow a whole lot more — for that hope to come to pass.
We wish this growing family the best of luck and feel our hearts warming from the sweetness of such a story.

Cops Find Bird Nesting In Their Car, So They Carry Out Duty To Serve And Protect

Police have a duty to serve and protect, but these cops may have taken that duty to the extreme when they served and protected the nest of a dove.

When the Parma Police Department in Ohio found a delinquent dove nested in the windshield of one of their spare patrol cars in April, they could have kicked her out. She had parked herself illegally on government property, after all. However, they instead went the extra mile and decided to keep the bird safe and comfortable, protecting her as they protect the rest of the community.

The police nicknamed the bird Gerty and surrounded the vehicle with caution tape to keep others from disturbing her roost, where she was keeping two eggs warm.

[City of Parma]
[City of Parma]
They even propped up an umbrella as a roof to ward off rainy weather. To keep Gerty from going hungry, they routinely brought her worms they had dug up and made sure she had plenty of water.

[City of Parma]
[City of Parma]
Lt. Kevin Riley of the Parma Police Department told Fox 8 News, “Our officers are human beings just like anyone else. We care for all lives human and animal.” With Gerty, they’ve shown that there’s no creature too small to warrant compassionate defense.

And look at how happy Gerty looks, city cozy in her little nest. She’s certainly much more happy than all the other folks who have to walk past her as they go inside to attend traffic court.

As a new parent, we try to do everything possible to protect our little ones. However, there is only so much we can do as a mother or a father, and nothing is more painful than seeing your little one suffer and not being able to help.

Much like this little newborn who suffered from a debilitating skin condition, the Godfreys of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, were heartbroken when their new baby Rory began choking while he ate and having trouble breathing at night.

“As soon as I heard him choke and gasp for air I knew something was horribly wrong, but was reassured he was fine,” Holly Godfrey told Daily Mail.

[Daily Mail]
[Daily Mail]
Doctors diagnosed Rory with sleep apnea, but Holly knew something else was wrong. “I kept pushing for more tests to be done and eventually we were referred to a geneticist, where he was diagnosed with BWS. I suppose it was just mother’s intuition,” Holly said.

Rory was next diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, just like the newborn baby in this story, an overgrowth condition of various parts of the body. In this case, baby Rory’s tongue had been growing to the point where he was choking on it nearly 100 times a day.

[Daily Mail]
[Daily Mail]

“It got to the point where he could touch his nose without trying and his mouth was always in an open position because his tongue was so large,” Holly said. “He would gasp and choke while feeding and then while he slept I could hear him snore and stop breathing. It was quite a frightening time.”

[Daily Mail]
[Daily Mail]
The only answer was reduction surgery for Holly and husband Ben’s tiny son. “Every night I heard him struggle for air and was too scared to go to sleep in case I woke up to a blue baby who had died during the night.”

Doctors cut a “W” shape into the baby’s tongue before stitching it back together. Today Rory is 14 months old and in recovery from the dangerous surgery. A far cry from this time last year, Rory has now been able to use his tiny tongue to say his first words: “mama”.

[Daily Mail]
[Daily Mail]
“He’s so happy now, he’s more vocal than he was before and has definitely compensated for the sounds he couldn’t make before.” The family has shared their baby’s frightening story in hopes of helping other parents who were given misdiagnoses. “We’ve been on quite the rollercoaster but now hopefully we are out the other end of it.”

Summertime fun can come with risks, and as any parent knows, you never think anything can happen to you until it does.

But luckily for a toddler’s family, an 8-year-old girl from Texas was able to save their drowning little girl.

Cayleigh Hunt was swimming in her grandparents’ apartment complex pool when she noticed a 3-year-old struggling to stay above water. “I just turned around and she was like … trying, struggling to come up,” Cayleigh told KEYE TV. So she immediately jumped into action.

“I lifted her up from underneath so she could breathe, and then I grabbed on to her, and I pushed her over to the steps where she could stand so she could start breathing again,” Cayleigh said.

While Cayleigh says she didn’t know the toddler, the child’s parents were very grateful that she saved their near-drowning youngster.

“[They] were surprised, but they were happy at the same time, and one of them wanted to hug me,” she says. “Her mom and her dad kept saying, ‘Thank you very much,’ and I was like, ‘You’re welcome!’”

Cayleigh’s mom, Carrie says, “Every parent thinks it would not happen to them until it does. Things have happened to me as a parent where you just kind of panic; you’re thankful your child survived it; and you just go home and cry.”

Sadly, when it comes to drowning, it only takes an instant, so parents need to take extra precaution when their child is near the water.

Luckily for this family, an 8-year-old proved to be a real hero, and well beyond her years.

The weeks leading up to a person’s wedding day are often filled with what feels like never-ending anxiety, planning, and preparation in hopes that everything will go according to plan.

However, anyone who has ever been married before can tell you that sometimes none of that matters on the big day. As you can see in this bride’s heartwarming story, there are some things you can just never plan for.

For 24-year-old Julie Stroyn and her husband Andrew Nixon, 26, their wedding day wasn’t just a special celebration of their new life together, but also the amazing rescue of someone else’s. Stroyn works as a trauma nurse at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, according to TODAY, and although she wasn’t wearing her usual scrubs on her wedding day, the newlywed proved she is never truly off the job.

[TODAY]
[TODAY]
Just as Stroyn and Nixon were walking out of the Pennsylvanian Hotel in Pittsburgh for the first time as husband and wife, they heard strangers yelling “Does anyone know CPR? Is anyone a doctor?”.

The fast-acting nurse dropped her bouquet and purse and ran over to an unconscious woman laying across the street on a bench. Stroyn told TODAY, “I kind of forgot about the day’s activities and focused on saving this woman’s life,” as she started performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a young woman appearing to be in her 20s, who had been returning from a concert.

“While it was happening, I wasn’t thinking much about my dress getting ripped or how funny it must have looked to see a bride run into action in her wedding dress,” Stroyne said. “I’m just happy someone in the medical field was passing by.”

None of the wedding guests could believe what they had just witnessed, except for Stroyn’s proud new husband. “I’ve known her since she was 15 and seeing what she did Saturday night didn’t surprise me at all,” Nixon told TODAY. “I’m very proud to call her my wife.”

Dad, John Marshall, lives with his 8-year-old son Gabriel in Kansas.

Sadly, in 2015, Gabriel was diagnosed with a form of cancer called anaplastic astrocytoma, which is a rare malignant brain tumor. Gabriel received surgery for his tumor, and he’s now doing well and has been off treatment for the past 9 months.

However, Marshall told BuzzFeed that Gabriel admitted to feeling like a “monster” because of a large scar he had as a result of his surgery.

“This broke my heart,” Marshall said.

So he decided to get a tattoo that resembled his son’s scar. That way, “if people wanted to stare, they could stare at both of us,” the doting dad said. To mark Father’s Day, Marshall entered St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s #BestBaldDad competition, and won with 5,000 votes!

The Hager family has taken Jesus’s message to heart. These folks uprooted their 4 kids and moved from a comfortable community in Florida to a camper in South Africa so they could make a difference in the world.

Mom and Dad had successful careers and a caring community, but they decided to live in a corner of the world that doesn’t have access to the same kind of opportunity.

Now, these minimalists and lover’s of Christ follow the message of the gospel by working closely with two communities outside Capetown to give a voice to the voiceless.

This is no easy feat. The Hagers have learned to significantly reduce how much they have and cut down on all the unnecessary excess around the edges.

Just take a look at the camper they call home. Despite having limited space, this family had made it work. While living with six people can be a struggle, they’ve gotten use to it as they live life to the fullest.

Take a look at Mom explaining their lifestyle in the home and how these heroes have made it work.

We need more people like this in the world. People who will reduce their personal burden on the system and find a way to trim the fat. If you are inspired by these folks and if you want their message of love and compassion spread, please SHARE their story with friends and family!

Teen Has Terrible Allergic Reaction To Spray Tan

15-year-old Alyssa Misemer wanted to look good for her homecoming dance, so she decided to get a tan.

Alyssa’s mother, Dawn Misemer was against her daughter using a tanning bed because of its dangers, so they decided on a sunless tan.

“Spray tan would be fine, it would be safe,” Misemer told fox4kc.com.

Alyssa chose to go to Sun Spa in Platte City, as she had been there before and she said the spa didn’t make her sign anything. “They just had me sign in, and I went back and had it done,” Alyssa describes. But immediately upon receiving the tan, Alyssa says she started feeling itchy, and that night she started to break out in hives. The pain got progressively worse, and for two weeks, Alyssa even had trouble sleeping.

“It was miserable,” she said. “I would just — from here down be covered in hives.”

But what caused this terrible reaction? Alyssa told the news site that she’s severely allergic to nuts, and her mom discovered that the spray tan contained walnut oils. “Right when I found out that it had walnut, the tan had walnut extract in it, I was terrified that I was going to die from it,” said Alyssa.

While most self-tanners have caramel in it, others have nut oils in the bronzer, and now Alyssa and her mom want to warn others of potential dangers. “I don’t want anyone out there to have to go through the same thing that I did because it was extremely miserable and definitely not something I’ll ever forget,” Alyssa said. Alyssa believes that the formula used in her spray tan must have changed since the last time she was there because she did not have this negative reaction.

The Misemers say they tried to get in touch with Sun Spa to have them post a warning about the spray tan, but the spa says they will not be posting warnings about the dangers their spray tans may cause.

Anyone who has ever lived through the first few years of parenthood knows that the idea of enjoying a night out as a couple or any “alone time” is pretty laughable. Although we love our little ones and enjoy their company (most of the time), a parent of a baby or toddler would be lying if they said they didn’t love those special silent moments of nap time, however few and far between they may be.

Dog Miraculously Starts Producing Milk To Feed Abandoned Babies

When a family of genets (small African mammals) were found lying in a puddle in South Africa, children alerted adults about the abandoned babies.

The pastor they alerted then told the Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage, a nonprofit organization in South Africa that cares for orphaned and injured wildlife, and teaches children to take care for the animals and their environment. The cofounders of Daktari, Michelle and Ian Merrifield noticed that the babies were only two years old, and this meant that they desperately needed their mother for food and warmth.

But with their mom nowhere in sight, Ian told The Dodo, “We were heartbroken and scared.” So they bundled up the babies in a blanket, and laid them next to their three dogs, hoping their dogs would keep them warm.

One of the dogs- a poodle/cocker spaniel mix named Candy, seemed particularly interested in the genets.

Credit: Daktari
Credit: Daktari

The Merrifields started feeding the babies with syringes of warm milk, but they noticed they started to snuggle up Candy to keep warm, and tried to suck her nipples. Candy had had babies in the past, but she wasn’t pregnant, so the Merrifields were astonished when Candy, just days later, started producing milk.

Credit: Daktari
Credit: Daktari

“Candy is interested in most animals who come to Daktari,” Ian explains, “but we were shocked to see that she’d actually started producing milk. The only way we could explain it was that her motherly instincts had kicked in.”

According to veterinarian Dr. Honorata Lenk Markham from Oaklawn Animal Hospital in Rhode Island, “For one reason or another, maternal hormones get activated including oxytocin, the hormone that produces milk. n this case, the dog felt a strong connection to the babies, which then must have started a hormonal cascade in her body that resulted in her adopting the animals as her own. I often see dogs adopting stuffed animals. They protect them, nurture them and often produce milk for them.”

Candy started nursing the genets, who are named Chouchou, Maswika and Sakka. Candy and her genets became inseparable, and would not let anyone but the Merrifields near the babies.

Just recently, two of the genets- Maswika and Sakka were released back into the wild, and Chouchou, who showed too much stress during release, is still at Daktari. While Chouchou and Candy don’t really interact anymore, since Chouchou is nocturnal, Candy will sometimes go to check on her grown-up baby when she has the chance.

Baby Born Without Skin Stuns Doctors In India

WARNING: This article contains graphic images of a newborn with a shocking skin condition.

In a country with more than 1 billion people, it’s almost impossible to imagine that two people with the same extremely rare gene mutation would meet and have a baby, but that’s exactly what happened to a couple of farmers in Wadi, India.

A baby girl stunned doctors when she was born at the Lata Mangeshkar Hospital with the extremely rare and life-threatening disorder Harlequin Ichthyosis, in which infants are born with very hard, thick skin covering most of their bodies and separated by deep cracks or fissures. Uncurable Harlequin disorder is believed to affect about 1 in every 300,000 newborns, but since the poor farmers couldn’t afford pre-birth treatment, there was no way to determine the baby’s health.

Delivery Doctor Yash Banait told the Mirror, “There is no skin on the body, so skin grafting is not a possibility. But the baby hasn’t developed any breathing problems lest she would have required to be kept on ventilation.” The horrifying images of the newborn show her internal organs were nearly visible and extremities barely developed.

wow
[Twitter]
The infant was born without eyes or ears and just two breathing holes for a nose. Although India’s first Harlequin baby was believed at first to live, the newborn passed away just two days after birth.

Skin-condition-552063
[Barcroft]
Dean of the hospital, Dr Kajal Mitra, told the Deccan Chronicle “The survival rate for a Harlequin baby is extremely bleak and the babies generally succumb within hours or days of birth. Our senior medical experts were observing the baby 24/7 and I had personally contacted my colleagues in the US and UK to constitute a line of treatment. But, considering that there is such little research done about the disease, and this particular case was an extreme variety of the disease, unfortunately the baby passed away at around 4.30 pm.”

The infant’s body has since been donated to NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences in hopes that she will be able to help save future babies suffering from this heartbreaking disorder.

Mom Believes Her Father-In-Law Visited Her Daughter From Beyond The Grave

If a kid is lucky, they will get to spend a lot of time with their parents’ parents and even get spoiled once in a while without mom or dad finding out.

However, so many little ones and adults alike, grow up not knowing their grandparents and are left wondering what they were like. They say grandparents and their grandchildren can share a very special bond, but the following story has us wondering if that bond is strong enough to go beyond the grave.

In an article published on Baby Center, weather anchor, blogger, writer, and mom Stacy-Ann Gooden describes her daughter Princess’ strange obsession with her paternal grandfather, a man she met just once, as a newborn.

[Weather Anchor Mama]
[Weather Anchor Mama]
“He came by to pick up his son for a road trip, and asked to see his newborn granddaughter. No one would have ever guessed that that would be his only encounter with her. He died suddenly soon after,” Gooden wrote. However, she started to believe her newborn daughter was being visited by her granddad, when she saw Princess staring at the ceiling and one day found a strange lock of gray hair in her daughter’s crib.

[Weather Anchor Mama]
[Weather Anchor Mama]
“I showed my husband, who thought I was crazy, but I really believed that her grandfather and possibly her great-grandmother would visit her,” Gooden told IJ Review. “Baby gadgets would also randomly go off, despite no one or anything being nearby to turn them on, it was so weird.”

Since baby Princess couldn’t speak, there was no way to prove she was being visited. Then around 2 years old, the toddler started to point her granddad out in photos and become obsessed with him.

[Weather Anchor Mama]
[Weather Anchor Mama]
“When I ask her if grandpa visits her, she says yes,” Gooden wrote. “My husband doesn’t think she understands the question, and I don’t want to force the issue any further. But, I do wonder. My father-in-law only saw his granddaughter once when he was alive. Maybe this is his way for making up for lost times.”

Parents in New Mexico are punishing their 16-year-old son by making him sleep in a tent in the backyard.

Jacob and Angela Boggus reportedly told KRQE that they ran out of ways to stop their son from stealing from them, so he is now being forced to sleep outside in a tent.

“We’re not doing anything wrong here. We’re simply trying to teach our child a lesson,” Angela Boggus said. “If he doesn’t learn that now, it’s gonna be the whole world’s problem, not just ours, in a couple of years,” the father added.

The parents explained that when the boy sleeps in the tent during the day, he gets food and water and is allowed to come inside to use the bathroom. But at 9pm every night, he goes inside the home to sleep. The Boggus’ say that the teen’s punishment is one month long, and he is currently two weeks in.

Authorities first became alerted by the strange punishment when neighbors called the cops concerned for the boy’s safety. But deputies say they don’t see anything illegal about the punishment. According to the Valencia County Sheriff’s Department and the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, the boy is being given food and water and does not seem to be in any immediate danger.

In fact, the last we heard, kids love sleeping in tents, so maybe this punishment isn’t so bad after all.

Do you think making your 16-year-old sleep in a tent is an appropriate form of punishment?

This Veteran Miraculously Survived A Motorcycle Crash, Now He Spends Weekends Making Kids Smile

Sometimes, miracles are found in small places. Other times they slam right into you.

That’s what happened to veteran Nicholas Scrima on a chilly October night in 2013. The veteran and motorcycle enthusiast was hit by a truck while riding his sports bike.

[Courtesy Nicholas Scrima]
[Courtesy Nicholas Scrima]
He was lucky. The accident could have been MUCH worse, but Scrima was blessed enough to walk away safely and into a hospital with all his limbs in check.

However, something ironic happened that night:

“It was chilly that day and so I had thrown on an Iron Man hoodie,” Scrima told Life Daily about the accident. At the hospital, paramedics and nurses kept referring to Scrima as Iron Man because of the sweatshirt. Likewise, friends on social media noted that “Iron Man had fallen,” and they had him in their prayers.

Fortunately, Iron Man got back up again and walked away with major bruising, but no broken bones. What followed, however, was the long process of repairing his bike.

“All the plastic [on my motorcycle] was basically shattered,” Scrima said recalling the event.

Afterwards, the Iron Man sweatshirt and jokes from the hospital stuck with Scrima as he repaired his bike. He slowly found himself painting it red and gold and he even bought an Iron Man helmet.

Scrima began riding around on his Iron Man bike and became something of a local celebrity…

Beginning in 2015, Scrima was contacted by a riding group known as Sector 7, a team of motorcycle enthusiasts who also do great work within their community.

Sector 7 is a children’s charity comprised of motorcycle lovers. They dress up as superheroes and ride around to events where they can hang out with the kids who look up to them.

If parents can’t afford entertainment, these guys will show up. If a hospital is looking for a weekend activity, they’ll go there too.

Iron Man quickly joined the already growing partnership and since then, he’s been providing kids with happiness and excitement almost every weekend at various community events.

“If you make kids happy, you educate them, you teach them right and wrong, they’re going to grow into inspiring adults,” Scrima said about why he does this.

Many adults these days inadvertently send the message to children that they should “do as I say, not as I do,” but Scrima and his pals are trying to be a positive role model with action. Sector 7 says they never pop wheelies or drive recklessly because children are always watching, absorbing, and imitating. Their mission is to teach positive values and safely influence the community.

The former marine said making children happy is one of the best feelings in the world. He said he doesn’t think it’s right to charge for something that’s so rewarding to its members.

Baby Born With Brain Outside Skull Defies All Odds

Ohio parents were given no hope that their baby would survive, but, he is now thriving against the odds.

Bentley Yoder was born with encephalocele, which means that part of his brain grew outside of his skull, and sadly, there is no known cause. Bentley’s mom, Sierra, had a completely normal pregnancy and was about 5 months pregnant when doctors told her there was no chance her baby would live.

“We were never really given hope,” Sierra told The Washington Post. So Sierra along with her husband, Dustin they decided to end the pregnancy.

The night before they were going to terminate, they had a change of heart. Doctors said that when Bentley was born, he’d basically be a “shell” and they wouldn’t know when he was hungry, what he needed, and might not even be able to breathe. So they went to the hospital to deliver their baby with no car seat, or bottles since they were convinced they’d be coming home alone. They were even given brochures about planning Bentley’s funeral!

But, against all odds, Bentley came out kicking and screaming. Sierra and Dustin were even able to take their son home with them, although doctors were still concerned.

The family went through numerous surgeons before they found neurosurgeon Mark Proctor at Boston’s Children’s Hospital. Proctor and his team determined that because Bentley’s brain was inside his skull, and he was using it, the other part could not fit inside his current cranium, so they needed to expand it. A five-hour surgery was done, and at 5-months-old, Bentley was in recovery.

“He was awake; he was looking at us. He wasn’t cranky. He was just lying there, taking it all in,” his mom says.

Now, at 7-months-old, Bentley is doing well, although we are unsure of what the future holds for him. “Because of how different his brain really is, they have no one to compare him to,” Yoder explains. But he still believes “[Bentley] will have a rewarding life. We just have to take it step by step,” Yoder says.

When someone is a new parent, they will often tend to be a little overprotective and overly cautious of their little one, fearing the absolute worst at every turn. Although this “helicopter parenting” can be a little much, the following story proves why every new mom or dad should have at least one or two first aid tips in their back pocket.

As you can see in this story about an off-duty officer saving a tiny toddler with CPR, it definitely doesn’t hurt to have someone with life-saving training around when your child is in need. Luckily for 31-year-old mom Victoria Dawson, of Ruskington, England, she knew exactly what to do when her newborn son, Eddie, started choking uncontrollably after one week of being home.

The mother of two was breastfeeding her son, who was born prematurely and was only 4 weeks old at the time, when he began coughing and couldn’t breathe.

“I stopped the feed straight away at which point Eddie just became all floppy and the colour drained from his face,” Dawson told Lincolnshire Echo. “I then put my finger gently into Eddie’s mouth to see if there was any milk still there and gave him some firm but gentle back slaps but he was still floppy and I could see he wasn’t breathing.”

While Eddie’s father called for emergency services, his mother, a district nurse for Lincolnshire Community Health Services, laid him down and began performing life-saving chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

“It was all very quick but felt like a lifetime for him to respond and for paramedics to arrive. Eddie was then given oxygen and his colour came back,” Dawson said. “He was kept in hospital overnight and we came home the next day.”

According to the Lincolnshire Echo, Dawson will be awarded on September 7th with the “Hero Parent of the Year” category in the St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes Awards after she showing extraordinary courage in saving her baby’s life using CPR.

Pharmacy’s Terrible Mistake Leads To 8-Year-Old’s Tragic Death

When a child passes away suddenly, it can be almost unbearable for their heartbroken parents to move on, but one couple is using their son’s untimely death to inform others about the unfortunate tragedy that killed him.

Jake Steinbrecher of Loveland, Colorado had been on medication since he was just 5-years-old for a sensory processing disorder and for three years, it seemed to be helping.

“Drugging our child definitely wasn’t something we wanted to do,” Caroline Steinbrecher told the Daily News. “The Clonidine was a compromise I could live with, because it was a non-addictive drug,” she added about the drug normally safe for children.

Then last Halloween, the 8-year-old started acting unusual after taking his normal dosage. Steinbrecher said her son immediately started having an adverse reaction to the drug used to treat high blood pressure and ADHD in children, and was rushed to the emergency room where it was discovered he had brain swelling.

Once the medication was tested it was discovered that Jake had ingested a 1000 times higher dosage than his prescription of 0.3 mg. “It wasn’t a mistake,” Steinbrecher told The Denver Channel of the pharmacist’s miscalculation. “It was a sentinel error.”

Jake was eventually released from the hospital, but died June 8 from what his mom believes was the pharmacist’s admittedly deadly mix-up.

“How could somebody do that?” Steinbrecher said. “How there was no other way to make sure the medicine was mixed correctly before it was out the door other than the say-so of the pharmacist who made it?”

“She’s continued to work on at the pharmacy every day…still has her license still is allowed to make other prescriptions for other children,” Steinbrecher said of how she wants to warn parents.

“People need to be aware of what is being given to their children,” she said. “They trust doctors and they trust pharmacists to do the right thing for them and to keep their children safe, but these are all just people and people make mistakes and errors and that’s where more protection needs to be in place.”
