Waiter Shares The Inspiring Story Of A Soldier And Her Late Brother

[Brian Avey]

This story surfaced thanks to an inspiring post from Buffalo Wild Wings server, Brian Avey.

It’s one of those stories that hits you hard and makes you think about life more deeply, if only for a moment. Avey originally posted this back in July 2015, but stories like these are always relevant.

Avery works at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Tacoma, Washington. He said on this night, a military woman sat down and immediately ordered a Corona and a Blue Moon. Avey told the woman she could only order one beer at a time.

However, the woman shared a sad story. She said the second beer wasn’t for her. She wanted to buy the Corona to honor her brother who had died in Iraq.

[Brian Avey]
[Brian Avey]

Touched by her sentiment, Avey brought her the beer but when he brought her the bill, he did something very touching. The Corona, he said, was on the restaurant.

The gesture touched the woman so much she left this heartfelt message on the receipt.

Avey couldn’t throw the beer away after the woman left and his boss, Dan, agreed. They decided to keep the beer and put it next to the American Flag on top of the cooler.

Avey’s post quickly went viral and has been shared more than 50,000 times.

Wow, this is incredible and it touches my soul. Please SHARE this story with friends and family and make sure that just because some heroes are gone, they are never forgotten.

Lioness Protects Fox

It was a warm day in April, when photographer Graham Dyer was walking through the Central Kalahari Game Reserve on South Africa, enjoying the weather, as well as the stunning view. But then, Graham happened upon an amazing event, which could be called “once in a lifetime.” The reserve is situated in the national park in the Botswana’s Kalahari Desert, and is approximately double the size of Massachusetts. What happened when an injured fox was trapped by a lioness is hard to believe, and the pictures in this gallery speak a thousand words…

Mom Places Children In Trunk Of Corvette When There’s No Room In The Car

[York Police Department]

If you’ve ever had the joy of riding in a Corvette, you know these cars are built for speed and not for families.

The fancy sports cars often only have two spots, one for the driver and an additional passenger and they rarely have room for a car seat.

 [allanw via ShutterStock]
[allanw via ShutterStock]
However, when Mom Jessica Marie Reger, 29, of Hanover Pennsylvania didn’t have room for her children in the front, she simply placed them in the trunk.

Reger was with another woman at 8:40 p.m. on July 10 when she was allegedly seen placing two children in the trunk of a red Corvette, according to local news site, York Dispatch.

According to Hanover Borough Police, Reger and Ilena Gale Blackburn, 28, who was driving the car were pulled over shortly after pulling out of the parking lot.

When the officer asked Blackburn to open the trunk, Reger’s two children, who are 3-years-old and 5-years-old, were found in the back.

Blackburn faces recklessly endangering another person and improper child-restraint system charges, according to online court records.

Meanwhile, Reger is charged with two counts each of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, according to charging documents. She remains in York County Prison in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Perhaps the worst part of this story is the mother’s mug shot. That’s certainly not a face of remorse.

Toddler Bites Into Onion: Finds Out It Is Definitely Not An Apple

[Jenna Epdhtine]

When toddlers discover something for the first time, viral video magic always results.

Take for example, the time we all watched little ones discover lemons for the first time. They didn’t have a concept of what it means to bite into something sour, but I assure you now they do.

[Funny Plox via Youtube]
[Funny Plox via Youtube]

Well, once again we have trudged to the farthest reaches of the internet, battled trolls and Facebook commenters alike, and dug up another hilarious video of a young one discovering something for the first time.

This time we bring you the hilarity that is a toddler discovering an onion. The funny part here is that he thinks it’s an apple.

It’s an easy mistake to make. After all, an onion really does look a lot like an apple. It has relatively the same shape, size, and even color, but an onion is noticeably different than an apple.

[Jenna Epdhtine]
[Jenna Epdhtine]
The 2001 animated film Shrek taught us that onions, like people, are complex creatures with many layers. You can’t juts bite into an onion and expect to understand it all in one take like you can with an apple. Similarly, you can’t understand a person the first time you meet them too. You have to slowly peel back those layers and find understanding over time.

Unfortunately, somebody forgot to let this poor toddler know that an onion is significantly more complicated than and apple and naturally, hilarity ensues.

[Jenna Epdhtine]
[Jenna Epdhtine]
Take a look at the humorous video below and remember that both onions are complex creatures. They require patience and understanding, as do people.

When I was a kid, my brother and I used to spend our summers playing video games.

My Mom had a very simple rule: “you can’t get a new video game until you beat the one you already have.” It was a good rule and to make sure we wouldn’t ask for a new game for a long time, she got us a very challenging a lengthy game, Donkey Kong 64.

However, her rule backfired quickly because we spent too many sunny summer days trying to beat that challenging game in our dimly lit basement.

“Why can’t you just go outside,” she would say as we stared at the screen with glazed over, bloodshot eyes.

This complaint seems to be an ongoing one of parents everywhere. Video games leave children hooked on their controllers and sitting in dark basements for hours on end. At least, this was the case up until a few weeks ago.

When Pokemon Go came out on July 6, it changed the way video games work. The game, which integrates maps of the real world into the game world, has changed the game of video games.

Players can’t sit on the couch to play the game. Instead, they’re forced outside and must not only walk around but also interact with other players in person rather than virtually.

In fact, the game has been so successful at inspiring people to be active, they even managed to get a few folks kayaking to the middle of a body of water to battle other players.

[TWITTER/KELSEY THOMSON]
[TWITTER/KELSEY THOMSON]

These folks from New Zealand fought the elements in the middle of winter to find what they were looking for.

And one Dad, 29-year-old Joel Claudio Senior hs gained attention on social media last week after local news caught a picture of him playing the game with his kids.

Nine-year-old Jaylianah Claudio, on the left reacts with her brother Joel Claudio Junior, who’s 7, when their father took them out to play “Pokemon Go” on his iPhone, Go Erie says in the Facebook post.

However, with all this activity, there’s also the potential for things to get a little unsafe too, like the story of the brothers who were robbed at gunpoint when two suspects recognized they were playing the game and forcibly took their cellphones.

As is life: bad things must always come with the good. If you have an opinion of this game, please tell us your thoughts in the comments and don’t forget to SHARE this story with friends and family on Facebook.

If you can watch the following video without fleeing in fright, you are a stronger soul than myself.

Here at LifeDaily, we try to keep our readers informed, enlightened, and occasionally running for the hills with their tails between their legs. Take, for example, the time we showed you the video of a lion getting more than he bargained for when he bit into a dead zebra. Our data tells us you love that disgusting stuff for reasons we cannot fathom.

So again, we thought we traveled to the farthest reaches of the internet, battled commenters and trolls at length, and drugged up for you a viral video that can only make you scream “Eek!”

Meet the Hercules Beetle, also known as Dynastes hercules. We aren’t experts here, so we can only assume Dynastes is latin for “die you nasty little bugger.”

[Rumble]
[Rumble]
This ginormous bug is so scary there are records that it’s made some very muscular gym monkeys scream like little girls when confronted with it. Please note, this is anecdotal evidence and can neither be confirmed nor denied.

If you’re looking for a slightly more scientific opinion, we can also tell you that according to our trusty friend Wikipedia, the Hercules beetle can reportedly carry up to 850 times its body mass.

So without further ado, I bid you to press play and promptly run from the room. Once you come back, however, please lie to us in the comments about how you made it through the entire video without squealing and squirming.

Then SHARE the video with friends and family on Facebook because not enough people have had their day ruined by this terribly fascinating bug.

While one Oklahoma mom of twins is a pro at multitasking, even she had reached her limit while trying to care for her babies and fill out important paperwork.

After a hit-and-run collision left Oklahoma mom Coty Vincent without a car, she went to her local Enterprise Rent-A-Car to get a rental car, but the already stressful task of filling out paperwork and dealing with the insurance company was even more difficult with two 11-month-old twins by her side.

Since Vincent didn’t have a double stroller that could hold both of her boys, she was forced to hold one in her arm, which made it nearly impossible to fill out the paperwork. Seeing that she was struggling, Enterprise employee John Goodlett offered to hold Vincent’s baby boy.

“This is John and he works at Enterprise. He’s also a twin and his twin sister is his best friend. While he helped me with my rental due to a hit and run accident, he held one of my twin sons as I don’t have a double stroller. One of the most compassionate and caring people I’ve ever met,” Vincent wrote after sharing a sweet photo of John with her son. “We need more people like John who go that extra step. Be a John.”

After Vincent’s post went viral, John’s bosses saw his good deed and wanted to repay both him and Vincent. “We were so moved by Coty’s Facebook post that we wanted to return the favor and do something special for her. Of course, we are also recognizing John for going the extra mile,” said the Enterprise team who purchased a double stroller for mom and have a surprise planned for John.

“It’s such a small act that’s touched so many people’s lives. What John did for me, and I’m sure what he’s done for many others, has just made a better day,” Vincent said.

Former Soldier Arrested After Forcing Her Child To Wear An Electric Dog Shock Collar

[My Australian Shepherd]

A former soldier is facing heat after what she forced her child to do in the name of “punishment.”

Lanna Monaghan, 34, is a veteran who told police that when reprimanding her child, she could “zone out” or go “out of control.”

[Facebook]
[Facebook]

Zoning out is an understatement. The mother is said to also have hit the boy so hard with a wooden spoon that it actually broke.

Additionally, she subjected him to cold showers and other forms of abuse, the worst of which is an electric dog shock collar.

Monaghan said she came up with the idea of a shock collar when she saw a pet owner with one. “If it works on a dog will it work on kids?” she’s quoted saying.

Electric shock collars are a controversial practice among pet owners.

They are used to control barking by giving a shock when vocal decibels exceed a certain level, using fear and pain to control animal instinct. This means that when tied around the child’s neck, it would deliver a brutal shock if he attempts to scream.

[ASPCA]
[ASPCA]
Monaghan was original due to be sentenced July 6, however defense counsel Duncan McPhie said that a change in instruction resulted in him “seeking leave to withdraw from acting.”

Monaghan admitted to forcibly placing the child in a cold shower while he kicked and screamed and she pled guilty to reportedly strapping an electric shock collar on his neck in July 2015.

The Army veteran additionally pled guilty to biting her son on the ear and repeatedly striking him with a wooden spoon.

The abuse continued for the duration of a 15-month period until a concerned neighbor finally contacted authorities in 2015.

In defense of her actions, Monaghan claimed the child “pushes my buttons, spitting on me, peeing on the floor and being sick on the floor.”

In an updated version of this story, it was revealed that Monaghan faces three years and four months in jail for using an electric shock collar.

Mom Warns Others After Pressure Cooker Explodes At Home

Parents will take all the help they can get, and many rely on clever tools and appliances to make parenthood easier, but one Australian mom is urging parents to throw out this kitchen ‘life-saver’ after it almost cost her her life.

When faced with the age-old dilemma of what to make for dinner, Cassie Hodges and her partner Mark decided to make soup, but since their three kids were already getting hungry, they decided to use the pressure cooker since there wasn’t any time to use the slow cooker.

Mark put all the ingredients in the pressure cooker, and 25 minutes later, Cassie walked in with their 12-week-old son and saw dinner was ready. After putting the baby down and telling their two older daughters to sit at the table, she went back into the kitchen to help serve dinner.

“I walked back in to the kitchen and mark let the pressure release valve off to release the pressure, the steam came out the top as normal. Then I heard a click, suddenly I knew the lid unlocked and the next minute I was hit with something. The lid had unlocked and because it hadn’t finished releasing the pressure the lid flew off and the entire contents hit me like as if someone chucked a bucket of water at me, the noise of it was a loud sizzle,” Cassie remembers.

“I immediately screamed. My partner was holding his stomach and he pulled his arm back and his skin was all peeled off, I removed my singlet and ran to the shower,” said Cassie, who was left with burns to 12 percent of her body.

Cassie had to have all the dead, burned skin peeled off and was left unable to look after her children while she healed, but is sharing her story to warn other parents of how dangerous pressure cookers can be. “I will be ok , but I want to share my story, these pressure cookers are not safe. We did nothing wrong the machine unlocked prematurely, it should stay locked and unable to be opened until the pressure is all gone.”

“Please share this far and wide and throw your cookers out, or better yet, demand a refund. They are not worth it. 2 minutes earlier I was holding my son, my poor son could have been hurt. We are lucky! I want to make sure this never happens to anyone ever again,” Cassie said.

Did you know pressure cookers could be so dangerous? Let us know in the comments below, and please SHARE this with other parents to warn them of the danger.

Parents will do anything to make their children feel better, so when one Oregon dad noticed his son was embarrassed by an auto-immune disease that left him bald, he didn’t hesitate to give himself a matching haircut.

Many babies are born with little to no hair on their head, which is why dad Koki Gomez didn’t think anything was abnormal with his baby son. However, as his little boy grew he started noticing hair loss and bald patches. When he went to the doctor two years ago, he finally found out that his little boy had Alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disease that causes baldness and hair loss.

His little boy quickly started to lose most of his hair, and was left almost completely bald. He would often wear hats out to cover up his head, but when Gomez noticed how self-conscious it was making his son, he decided to match his hair and shave everything off.

“He almost lost all his hair. Thank God that he seems to be getting most of his hair back. When he had lost most of it, I was willing to match his hair style. Now that he’s got most of it back, nothing’s going to be any different. I’ll match his too,” Gomez wrote in a post on Facebook after he began shaving matching bald spots in his own hair to match his son.

The Top 7 Grocery Shopping Hacks All Parents Wish They Knew

Between trying to plan out an entire week’s meals for your family, looking after wandering kids, AND calming down crying toddlers, shopping can be a nightmare for parents especially when the little kids outnumber the adults.

While grocery shopping with little ones can seem like mission impossible, these weekly excursions don’t have to be as traumatizing as you think. With a little preparation, these trips to the store can actually be an enjoyable outing with your kids.

Take a look at the top 7 grocery shopping tips you need to know before your next shopping trip:

7. Parking: While everyone wants to find front row parking, the best parking spots for moms are actually right next to the shopping cart return area since you can quickly take your child from their car seat to the shopping cart seat. And when leaving the store, you don’t have to leave your kids in the car for long while you drop the cart off.

6. Making Space: If you’re cooking for a family, you know how quickly those shopping carts fill up and how precious space for food is, so instead of wasting all that precious space in the cart with diaper bags and handbags, use a plastic baggie from the produce section to tie them up onto the handlebar.

5. Germs: Kids love putting their mouths on anything in sight, including the handlebars of the shopping cart, which are covered in germs that can easily make them sick. Instead of fighting with them the entire time to keep away from the handles, bring a sliced open pool noodle which protects them from the germs and also serves as a bumper so they don’t hurt themselves.

4. Avoid The Middle: No matter what grocery store you shop in, almost all of the foods you really need like the meats, produce, and dairy will be along the perimeter of the store. Not only will it save you time by not walking up every single aisle, but avoiding the candy and sweets aisle will save you from some embarrassing meltdowns.

3. Ask For Help: Most people don’t realize, but butchers behind the meat and deli counters can cut items into individual portions for you and even wrap them up for freezing if you ask, which will save you some precious prep time.

2. Snacks: Snacks are a great way to keep kids occupied during a grocery trip, but a baggie of snacks is basically guaranteed to make a spill. Instead, make a Cheerio necklace with dental floss to keep messes at a minimum.

1. Bringing It All Inside: Instead of cutting off the circulation in your arms while attempting to bring all the groceries inside in one go, keep a laundry basket in the trunk so you can easily carry everything in at once.

Watch the entire video below to see the rest of these genius grocery shopping tips as well as a few bonus unpacking hacks that are sure to save you tie and energy.

Did you find these tips helpful? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and please SHARE this with other parents on Facebook.

Mental Health Disorder Warning Signs Even The Best Parents Can Miss

As parents, we tend to worry about our child’s behavior either excessively or not at all. You’ll often see parents jumping to extreme conclusions about their child’s little quirks, while others choose a blind eye towards mental health issues that are quite obvious to others.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
This is why it’s more important than ever for parents to know the warning signs of mental health illnesses in children, to prevent problems in the future and try to get their kids to a healthier state of mind as soon as possible.

According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), “Major mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder rarely appear ‘out of the blue’,” so it’s important for parents to trust their guts and seek professional help when it comes to their child’s mental health.

“Most often family, friends, teachers or individuals themselves begin to recognize small changes or a feeling that “something is not quite right” about their thinking, feelings or behavior before one of these illnesses appears in its full-blown form.”

Here are Medical Daily’s five common mental health disorder warning signs every parent should look out for:

1. Long-lasting mood swings.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
A change in mood that lasts for two weeks can be a strong indicator of a serious mental disorder in your child. These mood swings which usually range from being hyperactive to being melancholy within a short time span with no substantial reason can be an early sign of bipolar disorder or manic-depressive illness.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the “up” or mania children feel and the “down” or depression is so powerful that it can interfere with a child’s academic and social life. One-third of the 3.4 million children and teens who are diagnosed with depression may be experiencing the early onset of bipolar disorder, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) reports. Abrupt mood swings and hyperactivity accompanied by lethargy have the potential to produce a chronic irritability.

If a child becomes hyperactive without being lethargic afterward, that is a normal characteristic of childhood behavior. “Childhood bipolar disorder is characterized by many of these symptoms, taken together, and marked by rapid mood swings and hyperactivity,” says John M. Grohol, Psy.D. He believes these symptoms in bipolar disorder will affect the child severely, occur frequently and lasts for approximately two weeks.

2. Excessive fears or worries.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
Fears and worries in children are common throughout early childhood. It is normal for toddlers to fear the dark, imaginary creatures like “the boogie man,” and being separated from their legal guardians. For grade-school children, being anxious before school performance and worrying about social acceptance among peers are seen as healthy responses that continue into adulthood. However, when these normal aged-based fears become so excessive that they interfere with a child’s daily functions, it is time to have an intervention.

Children who are diagnosed with anxiety often express a specific worry or fear says the AACAP. Physical complaints are often accompanied by the worry or fear communicated by the child, which helps clinicians diagnose specific anxiety disorders.

3. Extreme behavioral changes.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
Childhood defiance and questioning authority are also common behaviors in kids. Often times this behavior is motivated by the thrill of testing whether they can really get away with something without their parents’ blessing.

However, is your child just experimenting with independence or is there a more serious issue? Oppositional defiant disorder (OOD), on average, begins when a child is 8 years old and usually starts before the early teen years, according to the Mayo Clinic. An example of an alarming behavior would be one that displays defiance for the sake of defiance, such as buying multiple video games without any genuine interest to actually play these games. Mental health illnesses that are closely related to sporadic behavioral changes include ADHD, anxiety, bipolar, and depression.

4. Physical changes, such as weight gain or loss.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
An estimated 80 percent of people with serious mental illnesses are overweight or obese, reports the National Institutes of Health (NIH). A sudden change in physical appearance that does not follow from puberty may be a strong indicator that your child is suffering from a disorder. Similarly, weight loss brought on by lack of appetite may be an early sign of depression.

Body changes brought on by alcohol or drugs to “self-medicate” are symptomatic of depressed youth, signaling a lack of concern for or attention to their appearance says the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE). Furthermore, KSDE suggests that mental health professionals believe a child has a greater chance of developing depression if one or both of their parents suffered from the illness.

5. Lack of concentration.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
Children who have extreme difficulty concentrating could potentially have a mental disorder. It is important to distinguish a child who merely wants to watch his or her favorite television show instead of doing homework, versus a child who is incapable of focusing on their favorite TV show.

The inability to concentrate on a simple task is a symptom of ADHD or depression reports Psych Central. Lack of focus might result from excessive thoughts of shame, guilt, death and dying, which could be highly dangerous leading to thoughts about suicide. Trouble concentrating in a child with a disorder often manifests in their academic and social life.

As a parent, you do so much to teach your children how to be good people, yet most of the time it feels like all your hard work goes unnoticed and all the important lessons you try to teach go in one ear and out the other.

All parents have felt like this at one point or another, and TV star Joanna Gaines, who co-stars on the hit HGTV show Fixer Upper with her husband Chip, is sharing some wise parenting advice after a heartwarming interaction with her daughter reminded her that kids absorb everything we do even if they don’t look like their watching or listening.

On her Facebook page, Gaines shared a photo she quickly snapped of her daughter Emmy after she walked past her bedroom and noticed her staring out the window at an Adonis blue butterfly bush. “I planted by the girl’s window almost five years ago when we were renovating the farmhouse,” she explained. “I wanted butterflies by the girl’s windows that they could see and enjoy.”

“I never told them about the bush and honestly I forgot about it over the years,” Gaines wrote. “This morning I found my little Emmie sitting by her window looking excitedly at the bush and saying ‘Here she is! My little hummingbird comes every morning mom!’ First, I didn’t know she looked out for her bird every morning. Second, I forgot all about the bush and never told her if she looked out the window she would see the prettiest butterflies and hummingbirds gathered around it.”

“It’s hard not to think this is a lot like parenting… You sow seeds early on and work hard to be intentional and then over time you move on to new lessons and challenges. Then one day you look up and the seeds you planted in your little children’s hearts are now in full bloom,” Gaines wrote in the post that has struck a chord with parents and has been shared over 76,000 times.

“Be encouraged today to keep pressing in and tending to their hearts. It will be worth it.”

Every good parent just wants the best for their child, but almost every parent has a different idea of how to best raise their children- especially when it comes to breastfeeding.

Most parents are advised to exclusively breastfeed until their baby is a year old if they can, yet many moms struggle to even make it to a year, nevermind 5 years of breastfeeding. However, one mom who calls her parenting style ‘off-grid parenting’ has no plans to stop despite the criticism she’s received from breastfeeding her 5-year-old son, which is twice the average age that children in the United States get weaned.

“We parent according to what we feel in our hearts. We don’t want our children to be institutionalised. Everything is natural. We never wake them up at a set time, we want them to be in tune with their bodies.” mom Adele Allen said about her controversial parenting methods to her 5-year-old son Ulysses and 1-year-old daughter Ostara.

“Ulyssess does still nurse from time to time. Since the baby came along it has decreased rapidly and we had to come to a mutual understanding that it needed to graduate down a bit, but then I wasn’t willing to say ‘no you need to stop now,'” Adele said of her controversial choice to breastfeed her son. “I think it’s up to him to decide when he wants to move on from it. It’s something that’s just as natural as a hug is, it’s a connection.”

Aside from full term breastfeeding, Adele also feels strongly that Ulysses or Ostera are not treated by doctors and are never enrolled in mainstream schools. So far, Ulysses has been home schooled but can’t read or write, and when the children get sick, she prefers to use natural remedies, which includes squirting breast milk in their eye to cure eye infections.

One of the hardest things for a deployed soldier aside from the constant physical threats is not being able to see their family and loved ones, which is why family is the first thing they want to see once they step foot on U.S. soil.

As soon as Gunnery Sergeant Taylor was deployed, his wife started counting the days until he would return home and began planning how she could surprise him since he thought he wouldn’t see her right away because he was being stationed in California and she and their kids lived in Maryland. “My husband has been in Afghanistan for the last year. He was one of the last group of Marines to come back from the war,” mom explained.

After some planning, mom arranged to fly out to California to surprise her husband who she had tricked into thinking she was in Maryland. “The media is full of military men and women surprising their families upon their return from deployment, but it is very rare to see a military member get surprised by their loved ones,” she said of her plan.

“Because he is stationed in California and our kids and I live in Maryland, he didn’t think that anyone would be there when he returned. But I showed him!”

As Taylor and his unit marched in, mom stood eagerly on the side and once they finished marching in, practically everyone but her husband raced off to greet their families. Mom managed to sneak up right behind him as he was greeting other Marines, but once he realized who was standing beside him, he broke down in tears.
