An 18-year-old teenager had her world turned sideways recently when she made friends with a new classmate.

Zephany Nurse was a typical teenager making her way through high school when friends informed her that a new classmate looked really similar to her. Intrigued, the young lady befriended her younger classmate and the two became quick friends. They had an instant bond, almost as if they were sisters.

According to the Cape Argus, when the younger girl told her parents about her new friend and the family invited her for coffee.

Upon meeting the girl’s family, things started to click into place. The girls bonded so well not just because they were like sisters, but because they WERE sisters.

Zephany had once belonged to the parents of her younger classmate, however, a kidnapping shortly after birth separated her from her family.

It was 1997, and Celeste Nurse had just given birth to a baby girl at a Cape Town hospital. She encountered a woman dressed as a hospital nurse sitting by her bed.

She drifted back to sleep after the pains of labor, the woman stole her baby from the hospital room. When the new Mom woke again, she was horrified to find her child gone. In a previous interview she explained to Cape Times:

“When I woke up there was a nurse saying my child is gone. You can’t imagine the feeling,”

As it turns out, the baby had been kidnapped by the woman posing as a nurse.

After meeting their younger daughter’s new friend, they immediately knew the girl was theirs. DNA tests were given and they confirmed what Celeste and Morne Nurse knew to be true. It was indeed their long lost daughter.

The woman who posed as a nurse is now facing kidnapping charges, along with fraud and pretending to be the girl’s biological mother.

Although the couple went on to have three more children after the kidnapping incident, they never lost hope that their daughter was out there somewhere. In fact, they threw her a birthday party on the date of her birth every year.

“I’ll never, ever give up hope. I can feel it in my gut — my daughter is out there and she is going to come home.”

Mourne was right. It wasn’t the police or child services who brought their daughter home, but their own flesh and blood who found the lost child. It’s almost too unbelievable and poetic to be true.

Crohn’s Disease Sufferer Is Told He Can’t Use Bathroom Despite Having Doctor’s Pass

A Crohn’s Disease sufferer is speaking out against McDonald’s after he was denied from using the bathroom despite having a medical card allowing him to do so.

Chron’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease that can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, anemia, and fatigue. When a sufferer isn’t feeling well, it can be very problematic and important they locate a bathroom quickly.

For this reason, medical cards like this one are issued to inform businesses that it’s urgent the sufferer use the facilities.

It’s like an all-access key to any bathroom.

[Facebook]
[Facebook]
Student Liam Seacombe says he presented this card to McDonald’s employees and despite having a legitimate need, he was told he couldn’t use their facilities. Security even threatened to kick him out.

Liam said he had become unwell at 2.50am while enjoying a night out with friends. He asked to use the toilet but was refused entry. Liam told the Huddersfield Examiner, “I kindly asked a member of staff if I could use their toilet.

[Facebook]
[Facebook]
“The member of staff advised that the toilets were closed and further grabbed the manager who said that they were closed and couldn’t be accessed.

At this point, I presented them with my ‘Can’t Wait’ card, where the manager again, quite rudely, told me the toilets were shut. I explained to them about the card and my illness, but insisting that the toilets were completely inaccessible, they ushered the security guards to remove me from the restaurant for simply wanting to use the toilet.

This story comes out amid controversy of invisible illnesses. Just because a disability can’t be seen, the rationale goes, doesn’t mean it’s any less debilitating.

Crohn’s Disease affects millions of people around the world who live with this issue, and often it’s impossible to tell if somebody is suffering from such an ailment.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “We would like to apologise for any embarrassment or upset caused to Mr. Seacombe and encourage him to get in contact with our Customer Services team.”

Body Image Lessons Every Mom Should Pass To Her Daughter

While it’s great to see so many women standing up against body-shaming and finally learning to love what they’re working with, there is no denying that our daughters will grow up in a much different world than we did.

Between society’s unfair body expectations of women and the seemingly never-ending bullying on social media, we’re seeing more and more young girl develop eating disorders, obsessions with their looks, and other body image issues.

Below you will find 3 tips for raising a daughter to love her body from author and mother Caitlin Lane of Scary Mommy. Her sincere and thoughtful advice might just help you be a little easier on your body as well!

The first thing that you need to know is that I used to weigh almost 300 pounds. At 5 feet 4 inches tall, I was solidly in the “obese” category. And I hated myself. I didn’t look in mirrors, I ducked out of pictures, and I wore double layers of shirts because I had this weird belief that it helped conceal stomach rolls. The reason I eventually lost weight and got down to the solid 175 that I am now? I’m not gonna lie: I told everyone it was for health reasons, but I just really, really hated looking at myself. My double chin, my bulging stomach, jiggling thighs, flapping arms. Health be damned, I wanted to be skinny.

My daughter is in kindergarten now, and before she started, I’d made a conscious effort to not talk about, well, anything weight-related in front of her. But one day she sat at the kitchen table playing with Legos while I cooked supper, and I overheard her say, “Blah blah blah blah fat blah blah.” Yeah, I have no clue what she was actually talking about, but my first instinct was to throw the knife I was using into a running garbage disposal and start sobbing. Because yeah, I still kind of, sort of pretty much, totally hated myself.

But I didn’t do that. I didn’t say anything, actually. I’ve learned something really very valuable, and it’s something that I didn’t glean from a woman’s magazine or some inspiring blog on a weight loss website. It’s something I learned from my daughter. “Fat”? It’s just an adjective, nothing more than a descriptive word like tall or flat or ugly.

With that one lesson, I began to realize that we’d started the body image lessons much earlier on than I’d realized, and maybe I hadn’t fucked it up so bad after all. Here are some of the body image guidelines we have in our house:

1. There Are No Bad Foods

I mean, except for dairy. Not for any weird, food crusade reason, but my daughter and I just happen to both be lactose intolerant and my son can’t have dairy (or 10 other foods, but that’s another story) either. And even at that, cow milk isn’t bad; it’s just something we can’t eat, but it’s OK for other people.

You see, I don’t do well on diets. What do you mean I can’t eat carbs? Fuck you, you don’t know my life! Instead, we have “sometimes food.” Candy, dairy-free ice cream, chips, should we eat them all the time? Nah, they’re a sometimes food, so we have them sometimes. And when we have them, we enjoy them.

My daughter once asked if candy was a junk food. I answered that honestly, yeah, it is. When she said that she never wanted to eat candy again, I laughed. Come on, she’s 5 and there was bucket full of Halloween candy sitting on top of the fridge, like she could keep that promise. Once, she told me that she would always remember to wipe her butt, but I do the laundry, and I know all. “Baby,” I said, “I eat candy sometimes. I really like candy. It’s good. I just have it sometimes, and I’m still healthy. It’s a sometimes food.”

She quickly reversed her stance. I called it.

2. Exercise Is for Being Healthy

Obviously, losing over 100 pounds involves some amount of exercise—like, a lot. And my daughter, she really used to have a ton of questions about why I was exercising. It took a few tries to get the explanation down the best I could, but in short, for us exercise simply means staying healthy. We talked about how the body needs to move blah, blah, blah to stay healthy and active, and that since I work at the computer all day, I don’t get to move around like she does, so I have to make special time to do it.

“Is playing exercise?”

“Hell yeah, it is!” We slapped hands in a high five, and then she asked to sit motionless on the couch for 30 minutes and play video games. I totally told her yes, because you’re only 5 once. And also, little to her knowledge, afterwards she was going to get kicked outside to the backyard so that I could clean the floors. Hey, it’s not exile—you’re exercising!

3. Everyone Is Different

“Why is my friend’s skin so dark?” “Because she’s black.” “Why?” “Because everyone is different.”

“Why are there two mommies?” “Because they’re gay.” “Why?” “Because everyone is different.”

“Why is your butt so big?” Pause, compose self internally, force a smile—wait, no, go for the nonchalant face. “Because I have a big butt.” “Why?” “Because everyone is different.” There was another pause, then she patted my backside, and said, “I like your booty.” “You know what baby? I like it, too.”

We talk with each other about the things that we like. She likes her legs because they’re long and strong and help her run fast. I like my belly, because even though it’s kind of big and wobbly, my daughter and son used to be in there. My son likes his hair, because that also helps him run fast, and he’s 3, so shut up—it makes sense.

I used to be terrified of raising a daughter, scared that she would end up with the same self-hating body image problems that I had growing up. But you know what? I’m not so scared anymore.

No parent would ever want to prepare their child’s meal in a bathroom stall, so Lynda Mazzalai Nguyen wants to know she was nearly banished to a public restroom.

There has been a lot of talk about breastfeeding in the media recently, mainly when and where it’s appropriate to get the job done. However, as you can see in this story about a mom who nursed her baby during her own wedding ceremony, when a kid is hungry, nothing else matters.

And who’s to say breastfeeding is inappropriate, anyway? Certainly not the Boy Scouts of America or any organization, as you can see what this mom had to deal with while feeding her kid.

That’s exactly why Nguyen is so furious after a hotel staffer told her to pump in the bathroom while she was attending a seminar.

“Based on principle, I decided to pump in the lobby next to reception. F*ck you, @embassysuites .I’m livid. I spoke to the GM and expressed their need to train their staff, and reiterated how appalling it was to be quickly dismissed without any attempts to accommodate my need and offered a bathroom because sir, you don’t eat where you sh*t, so why should my baby! He apologized profusely,” Nguyen wrote on Facebook and was later shared by Breastfeeding Mama Talk.

She had hoped she would be pointed in the direction of a comfortable place to have some privacy, but was extremely disappointed by the outcome.

Do you think this mom has a good point? Let us know in the comments and please SHARE her stories with other parents on Facebook today.

An Arkansas Mom is fuming after her son was burned by a toy he received in his McDonald’s Happy Meal.

The “Step-It” toy is designed to measure steps and blink lights indicating the child’s activity level. It is intended to spur activity and movement.

However, Casey Collyar, a Mom of Fort Smith, AR, said her son 4-year old son had a burn mark after letting him wear the Happy Meal toy for only eight minutes after buying him a meal from the popular fast food chain last week.

The reverse side of the toy had heated up enough to scold his skin.

[Mashable]
[Mashable]

She posted pictures to her Facebook page that has been shared nearly 80,000 times.

“I have received approximately eight to nine messages from other parents…all of their children have been burned by the watch, and I received one message from an adult. At this time what angers me is that McDonald’s has not pulled the Happy Meal toy,” Collyar told FOX19 NOW.

[McDonalds]
[McDonalds]
She has been in contact with McDonald’s safety lab, but at last check, employees there aren’t saying if or when the toy will be pulled from the meals, which has this Mom even more angry.

[Casey Collyar/Facebook]
“We are looking into this matter,” wrote McDonald’s spokeswoman Terri Hickey in an email to FOX19 NOW on Wednesday.

“McDonald’s Happy Meal toys, including the Step-it Activity Bands, undergo extensive review and testing by independent safety laboratories and we remain committed to providing our youngest guests with safe and fun Happy Meal toys.”

What do you make of this? Should it be pulled or is this Mom simply overreacting. Please tell us your thoughts in the comments and SHARE with fellow parents as a warning.

A nursery worker is facing jail time after she’s being accused of assaulting children at the daycare she worked at.

25-year-old Laura Houston, a worker at Happy Days Too Nursery drew a mustache on a toddler’s face while the child was sleeping. She also is said to have pulled the little boy’s legs away from him, causing him to fall and smack his face off the floor, leaving him in tears.

Houston also tripped a little girl up while walking along beside her and holding her hand at the nursery in Busby, Scotland and attacked a third toddler by slapping him across the chest to get him to be quiet – causing him to freeze with fear at being struck.

Houston denied she’d done anything wrong and showed no emotion when she was convicted of assaulting three children in her care between August 2014 and February 2015.

And Houston, who is a fully qualified Early Years Practitioner, was warned she faces jail for assaulting the three one-year-olds, who can’t be named for legal reasons.

Because the children were only one-year-old, they could not speak out about the assault that was happening to them, but trainees who worked with Houston are testifying against her.

“Laura was, at that time, taking a picture of [the boy] with one of the nursery cameras of [him] with the pen on his face,” said trainee Jennifer Mackie.

“He was taken in to the bathroom by Logan because it wasn’t coming off with one of the face wipes we had in the room,” said Mackie who was 16 and the time and says she was shaken up by the incident.

She explained, “I was still in training. This was a qualified staff member-I’m meant to be looking up to her. I felt a bit uneasy.”

Houston had been charged with assaulting five one-year-olds and faced one charge in relation to each of the children.

Speaking after Houston was convicted, Dougie Macaulay, the owner of Happy Days Too, said: “Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of the children in our care.

Catholic School Goes Viral After Urging Parents To Let Kids Problem Solve

Parents, do you think we live in a society that coddles our children a little too much?

A Little Rock high school thinks we do, which is why it prevents parents from solving their children’s problems for them.

The Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock, Arkansas has been getting a lot of attention lately after posting the following sign on the front door of the school.

[Catholic High School For Boys]
[Catholic High School For Boys]
The sign reads: “If you are dropping off your son’s forgotten lunch, books homework equipment, etc., please turn around and exit the building. Your son will learn to problem-solve in your absence.”

The school also posted this photo to its Facebook page on August 10, where it has since gone on to accumulate more than 117,000 shares.

“Welcome to Catholic High. We teach reading, writing, arithmetic, and problem-solving,” the school says on their Facebook page.

“It’s simply to help boys avoid the default switch of calling mom and dad when things don’t go right to bail them out,” Principal Steve Straessle  explained to KARK.

The premise is that when a student forgets his lunch, he needs to figure it out. He must borrow lunch money from a friend, split a sandwich, or ask the school for lunch. Calling Mom and Dad to bail him out does not teach problem-solving skills and the school hopes he will be more responsible in the future.

However, some are not happy with the school taking this approach, saying it isn’t the school’s place to teach life lessons such as these.

But others think the school is simply preparing them for the responsibilities that come with adulthood.

“It makes me think for myself and not rely on other people to do things for me,” said senior Patrick Wingfield. “And if I make a mistake, I need to learn from it and try to fix it.”

What do you make of this school’s philosophy? If all schools employ this idea, will it make future generations less entitled or is this simply not the school’s place to do? Tell us your thoughts in the comments and please SHARE with friends and family.

Kid Accidentally Swallows Dog’s Chew Toy

This is definitely not something you hear or see every day.

A video on Facebook has gone viral with over 35million views, appearing to show a child in the hospital after accidentally swallowing a dog’s chew toy.

In the hilarious video, a woman asks the boy, “Where are you, Anthony?” He responds, “In the emergency room.” When she asks him why, he says, “I inhaled a doggy toy.” She asks, “How can you tell?” Anthony then proceeds to start squeaking as he inhales and exhales.

TODAY.com spoke to Dr. Alfred Sacchetti who was not Anthony’s doctor but suspects that Anthony swallowed the small metal noise box and not the actual toy itself because that would block his airways.

Dr. Sacchetti said, “I’ve been practicing for 37 years and I’ve never had a child squeak at me.” He added that while most parents should not have to worry about large dog toys, toddlers are constantly trying to chew on anything they can find. These common objects like pills, batteries, and coins can have deadly results for the child.

“Even adults wind up in the hospital after swallowing something odd. The story typically starts with: ‘Here, hold my beer and watch this’,” Sacchetti joked.

2-Year-Old Dies After Swallowing A Small Button Battery

Every parent’s worst nightmare is something bad happening to their child.

One Oklahoma family had to deal with the unthinkable when their two-year-old girl died after ingesting a battery smaller than the size of a coin. Brianna Florer’s grandfather, Kent Vice told the Oklahoman that his granddaughter wasn’t feeling well for the past few days on a Sunday, and had a low fever.

Little Brianna’s parents, Brian and Stephanie Florer had to call an ambulance shortly after when Brianna started throwing up blood and turned blue. Brianna was rushed to the hospital in Tulsa, and although she immediately went into surgery, she later died.

An x-ray revealed that Brianna had swallowed a small button battery that was believed to have eaten its way through to her carotid artery by the way of her esophagus. Her surgery lasted two hours, but unfortunately, doctors couldn’t stop the bleeding.

‘One minute she is perfect, and the next minute she is dead,’ Vice said. ‘We had no idea when she swallowed it (the battery).’

Vice’s parents don’t even know how the toddler got the battery in the first place. Doctors reveal that Brianna probably ingested in within six days of her tragic death.

Sadly, there were 11,940 cases of children swallowing batteries from 2005 to 2014, and according to the National Capital Poison Center, 15 children in those cases died. While batteries will often pass out of the system before causing any harm, fatal cases occur when the battery gets stuck and secretes an alkaline substance.

Vice tells the DailyMail that he hopes his granddaughter’s death will bring about change. “I want to keep these things out of house,” he said. “They are dangerous.”

Overdue Mom Wakesurfs In An Attempt To Induce Labor

When you’ve had a tiny human growing inside your body for nearly 41 weeks, you’ll try just about anything to get it out.

In the case of Kolby Fahlsing of Minneapolis, wakesurfing was one of those feeble attempts to get the little one out and into the world. It didn’t work, because as anyone who’s ever tried to induce labor naturally knows, your baby doesn’t come out when you want it to, it waits until it’s good and ready.

“People confuse wakesurfing with wakeboarding or water-skiing or tubing,” Kolby explained to ABC News. “With wakeboarding you’re going maybe going 25 miles an hour. And wakesurfing you’re going 9 or 10. And it’s behind a wakesurf boat. It’s specially designed to wakesurf. People might not understand that we’re being very safe and you’re going pretty slow and it’s low-impact. If I were to fall, it would be like jumping into the pool.”

Despite Mom’s clear knowledge of wakesurfing and water sports, the internet still took the opportunity to jump on her about putting her child in harms way.

However, Kolby assured Channel 6 News that she cleared it with her doctor first stating, “we talked a few times about how to be safe while doing it. He knows me and my stresses so he knew it was good for my stress level and my body.”

While the wakesurfing certainly didn’t induce labor, it did look like a blast. The new Mom delivered a healthy baby a week after the wakesurfing.

Sometimes, life throws us a sign that somebody is right for us.

In the case of Caitlin and Tom Perkins, of Dirranbandi, Queensland, that sign was the fact that they shared the same exact birthday. They didn’t plan on falling for each other, but it was a little ironic that they were both born on August 16, 1986. Perhaps it was written in the stars.

Exactly 30 years later, another surprising coincidence came along on their journey of life.

The couple welcomed their new daughter, Lucy Marie Perkins, on their 30th birthday Tuesday, August 16.

[Facebook]
[Facebook]

According to Cailtin’s obstetrician, Dr. Brad Robinson, the family’s shared birthday is a one in 48 million chance happening. In a Facebook post, the couple’s doctor notes how bizzare this coincidence can be.

Originally, Mom wasn’t expected to deliver for at least another week, according to The Daily Mail reported, but Robinson said Caitlin went into labor spontaneously. Seven-pound Lucy was born healthy at 39 weeks and in the future, this family will be having huge birthdays because there’s a lot to celebrate.

Now this is just weird! Is this an example of fate or just a case of weird coincidences? Tell us your thoughts in the comments and please SHARE with friends and family.

It’s heartbreaking stories like this one that have us feeling like there should be rules in place for who can have children!

Everyone knows that parenting can be a tough and trying job sometimes, but there is no excuse for abusing a child or putting them in harm’s way, like these sick parents did to their daughter. If a parent is knowingly unfit or unwilling to care for their children, there are plenty of better options than to live in an unloved home or worse off, on the streets.

That’s exactly why the following story if making headlines around the country. It’s hard to understand how any parent could ever treat one of their babies with such hatred and torture.

[Fox 16]
[Fox 16]
Police officers arrested 30-year-old Jennifer Diane Denen and her boyfriend, 47-year-old Clarence Eugene Reed, of Hot Springs, Arkansas after Denen’s 4-year-old daughter was reportedly zip-tied to furniture and abused as a punishment. To make matters worse, when cops asked the little girl her name, she replied that she believed it to be “idiot”.

Staff at Cooper-Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center told police the 4-year-old girl showed signs of abuse, including deep purple bruising. “She had a black eye, a swollen right cheek, dried blood in the corner of her mouth, and a bruise on her forehead,” wrote Pix 11 News. The girl was also reported to have scarring across her back.

According to the Sentinel-Record, the mother of 6 and her live-in boyfriend could face up to 35 years in prison after being charged with first-degree domestic battery, permitting abuse of a minor, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

Any new addition to a family is sure to ruffle some feathers.

Especially in the case of this curious cat and the adorable new puppy his humans brought home.

While the stereotype is sometimes true that dogs and cats do not get along, this cat happens to be particularly interested in getting to know his new puppy friend. As the puppy sleeps peacefully cuddled in a cozy blanket on the floor, the curious cat reaches for him underneath the table, gently touching him with his paw.

The cat moves cautiously as he does not want the pup to hear his presence, and he adorably observes him like he is some alien creature. We can’t wait to see how these two get along as the pup gets older, but for now, we can enjoy being a fly on the wall through this video.

Traumatic Head Injuries Caused By Baby Strollers Are On The Rise

A new study published online in the journal of Academic Pediatrics has revealed some very alarming information about baby strollers and carriers.

Although parents use strollers and carriages to transport young children while keeping them safe and secure, many are doing just the opposite and injuries are on the rise.

According to the study, more than 17,000 injuries a year were reported from 1990 to 2010.  Of the 360,000 children ages 5 or younger who went to the ER for stroller- or carrier-related injuries, Live Science shared that most were the result of a stroller tipping over. They also found a parallel rise in concussions and traumatic brain injuries.

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]
“While these products are used safely by families every day, when injuries do occur they can be quite serious,” study co-author Kristi Roberts, a research associate in the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio, said in a statement reported by EurekAlert.

“The majority of injuries we saw were head injuries, which is scary considering the fact that traumatic brain injuries and concussions in young children may have long-term consequences on cognitive development.”

[Shutterstock]
[Shutterstock]

EurekAlert reported that researchers recommend these tips to help prevent injuries from strollers and carriers:

    • Always buckle up. Follow all manufacturer’s instructions for properly securing children in strollers or carriers. Make sure your child is seated and buckled in at all times.
    • Keep handles clear. Hanging heavy items like purses and bags on the handle of strollers can cause them to tip over. Store these items under the stroller or on your shoulder. If getting a new stroller, look for one with a wide wheel base that will be harder to tip over.
    • Get a model that fits your child. Strollers and carriers are not one-size fits all. Both strollers and carriers have age and weight limits. Make sure to get one that is the right size for your child and follow all manufacturer’s guidelines for use.
    • Lock it. Lock stroller wheels when you “park” to prevent it from rolling away unexpectedly. Be careful using a stroller near a curb and in high traffic areas where sidewalks are not available.
    • Keep it low. Keep carriers low to the ground so the child has a shorter fall if the carrier tips over.
    • Check for recalls. Both strollers and carriers have had recalls in recent years. Check http://www.recalls.gov to see if the model you plan to use has been recalled.

In a bizarre twist of fate, a woman in New Mexico put her son up for adoption 17 years ago, and has recently been reunited with him and fell in love!

Mares was just 16 when she gave birth to Peterson, whose pre-adoption name was Carlos. He was adopted as a baby, and the now 36-year-old Mares just saw him for the first time in 18 years last Christmas after the pair got in touch over Facebook

The mother and her son quickly developed romantic feelings for each other and their relationship sexual a few weeks later.

“The first time I met my son in person I was so happy and excited I gave him a big hug,” Mares told DailyMail. “I went to go pick him up at his dad’s house in Texas. [When] he gave me a call and asked me to pick him up, I got butterflies in my stomach,” said Mares. Mares said that at first nothing happened but then she started getting these crazy feelings. She said it felt different because she didn’t raise him as her child yet after all these years, he still came back to her. “

She continued: ‘At first I told him, “I’m sorry I don’t know how you are going to react to this. I’m your mom and you’re my son, but I’m falling in love with you.” And he said: “You know what I am too. I was scared to let you know. He was falling in love with his mom and I was falling in love with my son,” says Mares.

Mares says that Peterson is the best thing that has happened to her in the past 19 years, and she wants to be in a relationship with her own son for the rest of her life.

But once police found out about the affair during a call between the family members, the couple was charged with incest- a fourth-degree felony in New Mexico. They were arraigned and appeared in court in April and were both released on a $5,000 bond awaiting a trial by jury in September.

Mares says that even though she is not allowed to have contact with Peterson or any of her children, she maintains that it has all been worth it. “It is every bit worth it,” she said. “If they lock me up for love then they lock me up. There is no way anybody could pull us apart, and I really do love him.”

The two hope to one day be able to live in a mobile trailer and just enjoy life.

Missy Berberabe Umandel was returning to her home in the Philippines from Dubai on a Cebu Pacific flight when she wrote on Facebook that her plane had to make an emergency landing about 5 hours into the flight, because a woman went into labor months before planned.

Thankfully for the woman who was having contractions near Umandel, two nurses were on board and helped to successfully deliver her baby, who Cebu Pacific said in a statement, was a little girl named Haven.

“I can’t tell for sure when she started having contractions because the majority of the passengers were asleep at that time — including myself,” Umandel told BuzzFeed News. “At about 8:40 a.m. my mother woke me up, telling me that the lady was about to give birth.”

Soon after, the flight made an emergency landing in India, where she told BuzzFeed News she and other passengers “remained there for three hours to deploy the mother, baby, and the baby’s grandmother, as well as refuel and sanitize the area of birth, before flying to Philippines.”

Umandel shared the shocking experience on Facebook, where it soon went viral.“This is something you don’t get to see everyday. It only happens in movies, and we’re lucky to witness this miracle,” Umandel wrote in the widely-shared Facebook post.

“Relatives and friends of the mother, who got hold of this viral post, thanked me for sharing it, as they didn’t know the entire story just yet, since the mother and baby were left in India,” Umandel told BuzzFeed News.

“I really don’t want to take credit for this entire story on my own, since it was the wonder woman who gave birth who should be,” Umandel said, after she was rewarded with 1,000,000 Get Go Points from the airline, which is equivalent to about a lifetime of free travel!

Teachers have the responsibility of making sure their students have a safe and accepting environment to learn in, yet this doesn’t always happen, which is why one mom was nervous to send her little boy to school when he started going bald.

Third-grade student Dino Shuffield had mysteriously started losing his hair, and when his mom first noticed, she immediately brought him to the doctor to find out what was wrong with her son. After some tests, doctors told Dino he was suffering from Alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss.

As time passed, his hair got thinner and thinner and bald patched started to emerge. Ultimately, he would lose all his hair and started thinking about shaving it, but was clinging to the hair he had left because he was afraid of what other kids would think.

Third-grade teacher Ehren Steiner found out what his student was dealing with and sat down to talk things through with him. “I just kind of brought it up, ‘Hey man, I’ll shave mine, too, if that would make it easier,’ and I told him to think about if for the rest of the school day,” said Steiner.

At the end of the day, Dino told his teacher that he was going to shave his head over the weekend. By Monday, Dino was nervous to show off his new look to classmates, but then saw that Steiner had lived up to his promise and showed up to class with a completely bald head.

“My jaw dropped. I’m like, ‘He actually did it,'” said Dino. “It stinks sometimes to go through things on your own, and I think if you can have somebody to walk through things with, it makes life more enjoyable,” Steiner said.

Baby’s Horrific Skin Condition Leaves People Thinking Mom Is Abusive

It’s natural for kids to get bumps, bruises, and the occasional scrape as they explore the world around them, however, strangers and relatives started to think one mom was abusing her baby girl when burns started emerging all over her body.

When baby Isla Latham was born, the midwives were stunned when they saw the baby had no skin on her hands or feet. “Just hours after she was born her body was turning into one big blister. I was heartbroken,” Latham said. “Her skin went from bad to worse. She was given just weeks to live and no one knew what was wrong with my baby.”

A few weeks later, Isla was still alive but started getting sores that looked like burns all over her body, and people began coming up to 21-year-old Danni Latham and questioning her parenting skills. “People have stopped me in the street and asked ‘what have you done to her? Has she not worn suncream? She looks burnt?’ it’s so hurtful,” Latham said.

Despite how her daughter looked, Latham wasn’t doing anything unusual to her daughter, which is why she decided to go to another doctor to see what was causing the skin condition.

At just eight weeks old, doctors began testing Isla and discovered she was suffering from a rare condition called Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), which causes blisters to form all over the body.

“Children with the condition are also known as ‘butterfly children’ as they are very delicate to touch. When I was told there was no cure for my daughter’s skin condition, I was beyond devastated,” Latham said. “I have travelled across the UK to seek private health care and visit leading specialists but in order for Isla to lead a normal life there needs to be a breakthrough in treatment for research EB,” explained Latham, who is now sharing her daughter’s story to shed light on the condition and raise funds.

“I am determined to give my daughter the best possible future so I have started fundraising for Irvine McLean and his lab of human sciences. I will always do my best by Isla and although me and my family have had a tough few years, I won’t allow it to get us down,” she said.

If you would like to support Latham, please visit her GoFundMe page.

Cop Breaks Into Car And Rescues A Lifelike Doll

On average 37 children die each year in the United States from heat exposure after being left in a car on a hot day, and by the last week of July, 21 children mostly under the age of 2 had already died, which is why one cop was more motivated than ever to save a baby who had been left in a car on a 90+ degree afternoon.

Lt. Jason Short was the first to arrive after someone called 911 about a baby that had been left alone in a car, and sure enough, when he looked inside the car he spotted an infant inside with a blanket and a bottle. However, the baby was completely motionless and Short feared the infant might already be dead.

Short quickly took his baton out, smashed the glass of the window, and took the baby out of the car, but she still didn’t move. He tried giving the baby CPR, but when nothing worked, he called an ambulance for backup. It was only when he put his finger in the baby’s mouth to check her airways that he realized something was different.

“And I went to put my finger in its mouth and it was all resistance,” Short said. “And I’m like, ‘This is a doll.’” The doll, named Ainsley, belongs to Vermont resident Carolynne Seiffart who spent $2,000 dollars on the lifelike doll after her own 20-year-old son died from Hunter’s Disease in 2005. For Seiffart, Ainsley and her other ‘reborn dolls‘ are her way of coping with the loss. “I’ve been laughed at and embarrassed by all the fuss,” Seiffart explained after the incident. “You can’t know how people choose to deal with their losses in life.”

Despite the mix-up, Short has no regrets and would do everything exactly the same if put in the position again. “I would never assume that it’s a doll,” Short said. “I would always assume that it’s a child. I would never do anything different.”

To avoid people breaking her car windows, Seiffart has since posted a sign on her car alerting strangers that the baby is, in fact, a doll.

1-Month-Old Kitten Found With Her Ears Burned Off

Animal rescue teams are unfortunately used to saving homeless and abused animals who are afraid of strangers and at times being touched, however, normally they calm down a little once they realize they’re in good hands.

When officers rescuers found a tiny month-old kitten, they couldn’t understand why she was so petrified. Once they got a closer look, however, it all made sense when they realized she had been burned purposely by an abuser.

“A call came through the Baltimore City Animal Control 311 system, from a concerned citizen that found an injured, stray kitten nearly lifeless on her first story window sill. When the officers arrived, they found Duckie, seared and in extreme pain—they rushed her immediately to our shelter and into the exam room of our BARCS medical team,” Baltimore Animal and Rescue Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) wrote on their Facebook.

“It was immediately clear that Duckie’s injuries were the result of fire. Her little “bean” pads on her feet are painful and a deep red, her ears are freshly burned from the tips down; her whiskers are short, spiky and singed,” BARCS explained about the abused kitten they named Duckie.

“There is minimal burning on other parts of her body, which lead our staff veterinarians to believe that this was purposeful, targeted and done by a person with intent to harm.”

BARCS is determined to help baby Duckie, but are now spreading her story to help fund her expensive treatments since they are struggling with the expenses on their own. “BARCS is not going to say ‘no’ to Duckie, but we need funds to back up this promise.”
