Surgeons are urging people to throw out wire-bristled barbecue brushes because none of them could figure out a surefire way of removing them once they get stuck in people’s throats. 

“It’s a needle in a haystack, but the haystack is your tongue,” said Dr. Ian Dempsey, an otolaryngologist in Dartmouth, N.S. “It’s not an easy structure to go fishing around in, especially when it gets embedded in deeply,” he said.  

One woman, named Lisa Wadden ate a burger while at a barbecue with her husband and noticed something sharp in her throat shortly after. “Every swallow, it just was this crazy pain, burning,” she said. “It was like being poked again with it every single time that I swallowed.” 

X-rays showed that Wadden had swallowed a thin wire about 1.5cm long, and it was stuck in her throat. Over the next four months, she had multiple X-rays, CT scans, scopes and two unsuccessful surgeries in an attempt to remove it. Dr. Dempsey, Wadden’s otolaryngologist, told her it was best to wait for scar tissue to build up around the wire and lessen the pain. 

Wadden says she wasn’t using an old or inexpensive brush, and sadly she still has the wire embedded in her throat. It doesn’t cause her daily pain, but she does still know it’s there. “It happened in the blink of an eye. There was nothing I could have done, nothing I could have seen,” says Wadden. “If anyone’s having a barbecue that has a metal-cleaning brush, I won’t even go close to that.”

Another man, Kevin Gallant, describes that he swallowed a bristle, but didn’t even notice right away. He struggled with unexplained stomach issues for about a year and a half before having surgery. “I was very ill, probably as close to death as you want to be,” he said from his home in Summerside, P.E.I.

The lesson here folks is to be very careful when eating anything off the barbeque. If you have any pain, please consult your doctor immediately.

“It’s crazy, it’s a miracle,” the proud father told KSL. “Without any prenatal care, being a month early. She’s 5 pounds 8 ounces, 18 inches long and she’s great.”

Typically, when a couple finds out they are expecting a baby, it’s the wife who gets to surprise her unsuspecting partner with the good news. And for one couple’s first three pregnancies, that’s exactly how it happened.

Shortly after welcoming their third little boy into the world, 26-year-old Rachel Brummel and her husband Tim, 25, agreed that they didn’t want to have any more biological children and decided that Tim would get a vasectomy. As planned, Tim went in for surgery last December and assumed everything went fine after not hearing back from the doctor.

However, about six weeks ago, Tim started noticing that Rachel ‘acted a little bit pregnant.’ “She was tired, a little bit more hungry than normal even. A little bit nauseous,” Tim explained in a video, which has since gone viral. “We joked about it, but we knew she couldn’t be pregnant.”

However, Tim couldn’t stop thinking about it and decided to call the doctor to get reassured that it wasn’t possible. However, when he called the office, he found out the surgery had not worked and that they forgot to call him when the test results came back.

Despite having three boys under the age of five, Tim couldn’t help but get excited. In order to know for sure, he disabled the toilet in the middle of the night so his wife wouldn’t be able to flush in the morning, and used the pee on a pregnancy test, which came back positive.

“How many guys get the chance to tell their wife she is pregnant? I wanted to surprise her,” said Tim, who sat his wife down, gave her flowers, a card that alluded to the pregnancy, and finally the pregnancy test as proof. “I don’t know what to think. I’m a little bit shocked. I don’t know if I can believe you,” Rachel said as she processed the news.

Every parent with small children will know how sensitive their delicate skin can be to chemicals and scents used in shampoos, wipes, and moisturizers, which is why many parents stick to the same products after finding ones that work well.

For months, UK mom Beccie Saxon had been using Aldi’s Mamia baby wipes on her 9-month-old daughter Gracie, and for months they were great at cleaning and soothing her sensitive skin. However, she was furious after a new pack caused baby Gracie to break out in a painful rash.

“Warning to all mums that buy these wipes,” Beccie wrote in a post to Facebook, which has been shared nearly 11,000 times. “I bought these wipes on the 13th and as soon as I opened them I knew they smelt different. After I had used them my little girl had a major rash.”

“I didn’t connect the two straight away but after using cream it hadn’t gone and wash still really bad, the worse it’s ever been,” she explained. “I changed her wipes to the old ones and as soon as I used them the next morning the rash had gone!”

Beccie thought there might have been a mix up in the factory, and the wipes were really the scented version, but her partner Shaun emailed the company and found out that the manufacturer and ingredients had completely changed. “SAME packaging yet different suppliers and different ingredients! How can you still have what awards they have won on the front when it’s different! I now won’t be using them again,” she said.

“I’m still angry how the packs look identical if you don’t look at the ingredients,” said Beccie, who is now sharing her experience to warn other parents about how important it is to regularly check the ingredients even if it’s a product you’ve been using for years.

Mom Outraged After Baby Wipes Break Daughter Out In Rash is an article from: LifeDaily

A newborn baby who was just a few hours old was bitten by a large rat who crawled in his incubator. 

Nurses, who placed the tiny premature baby in a protective crib weren’t alerted to the rat until the newborn began screaming. The shocking footage was captured at the Western Regional Hospital in Belize, and it shows the rat rummaging around the empty incubator as hospital workers try to capture it. 

The Hospital administrator, Bernadette Seaver told Belize Channel 5 News, “It is unfortunate this situation happened and we regret that it happened to this child. We hope it would never happen again.”

The hospital guesses the the rat may have come in through the vent for the AC outlet. They have been under fire recently for a plague of rats that have taken over the hospital’s pantry, and the pantry has since been shut down and a new food storage unit was built. 

Seaver continued saying, “We’ve had a provisional company come in and help us. It has drastically reduced the population and we have taken measures where we have removed all foods that were kept on wards after patients have eaten.”

The baby has since been discharged, and has a clean bill of health.

While the tradition of no one wearing white except for the bride can be up for debate, there is one thing that no person wants to see on their wedding day and that’s another woman in a bridal gown… especially when it’s your future mother in law.

As reported by The Sun, Mumsnet user Natalie204 took to the bridal guide site to seek advice after finding out what her fiance’s mother planned to wear on their big day. Much to her surprise, it was nothing like she expected.

“Mother-in-law showed me a photo of her dress and jacket she has bought for our wedding it’s beautiful floor length white evening dress and white jacket,” she wrote. “But I was brought up to never wear just white/cream to a wedding as a guest.”

Confused by how her future mother-in-law could miss this golden wedding day rule, she asked Mumsnet, “Am i correct or is it just a regional thing (OH and his family are from a different part of the country)?”

Sometimes all it takes to be an animal’s hero is being in the right place at exactly the right time and opening your heart to them.

Much like when this kindhearted man rescued a tiny, strange creature on the sidewalk outside his home, the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital saved one of the tiniest animals they have ever encountered earlier this year.

In the following photo, we meet Boop, a pint-sized, newborn feathertail glider who most people wouldn’t even notice if they passed one on the street. The tiny animal weighs just about 1 gram in the photo, taken right after she was rescued, but should grow up to be about 1/2 an ounce or about 13 grams.

The hospital will rehabilitate the rescued feathertail glider until she’s ready to return to the wild. “After falling from her mother’s pouch, Boop luckily escaped any injury and will now receive round-the-clock care by a specialised wildlife carer until she is ready to return to the wild. Isn’t she precious!,” a spokesperson for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital told the Telegraph.

When Boop was rescued, she was just about the size of a fingernail, but these pygmy marsupials grow into seriously cute little guys… and they may just be our new favorite animal!

In a strange story that surfaced from the United Kingdom, a man is speaking out about the harassment he’s been suffering because his 32-year-old girlfriend looks young enough to be a child.

He claims he has been tormented in the street and his photo has even been wrongly circulated around the local schools.

Shakey said he voluntarily went to police and had a full background check done for anyone who asked and they confirmed he has never been in trouble with the law. However, despite all the effort on his part, these false allegations are ruining his life.

I haven’t been arrested or charged with anything in my life. I go into town and mothers grab their children close. Jessica is very small, petite and doesn’t look her age – that’s where all this has come from.

Jessica said Shakey can’t even visit the local shops without abuse. “One lady told him to get away from her kids and said that his photo had been circulated around the local schools,” Jessica said.

I used to go to a pilates class and he walked to meet me there once in floods of tears because he’d met someone on the street on the way there who had shouted abuse at him.

She added: “We have involved the police who have supported us in confirming that he has never committed any offense of this nature and in fact, he has no criminal record at all.”

Unfortunately, police records sometimes have little influence over the rumor mill. We wish the best of luck to this couple as they attempt to navigate the waters of this unusual relationship.

Man Says He Can’t Kiss His Girlfriend In Public Because People Think He’s A Pedophile is an article from: LifeDaily

Part of being a parent is having to let your ‘baby’ go to learn things for themselves and let them make their own mistakes, but one Massachusetts mom’s worst nightmare came true when she got a frantic message that her daughter was unconscious.

When Melissa Aho’s 15-year-old daughter Ryleigh asked to go to the movies and sleep at a friend’s house on a Saturday night, she said yes like almost any other parent would have. “I said yes,” Melissa said. “She has always been very good about communicating with me and checking in with me. But her plans changed that night and the series of events that followed are nothing that any family should have to experience.”

At 1 am, Melissa got a Facebook message from a friend who said that they had received a call and been told that Ryleigh was passed out. “Immediately my heart sank and I tried to call her phone repeatedly and of course there was no answer. I questioned who, where, when, why’s…and received no answer back,” Melissa wrote in a Facebook post, which has since gone viral.

What Melissa didn’t know at the time, was that the person who messaged her was on their way to find Ryleigh and the girl who had reached out for help. By the time they arrived at Aho’s driveway, Ryleigh was completely unresponsive, bleeding from her eye, and foaming at the mouth. Melissa called 911, and when they arrived at the hospital, the 92-pound girl had a blood alcohol level of .28, which is only .02 away from levels that cause death, and was not breathing on her own.

“I suffered 14 long hours pleading and begging for my daughter’s life, experiencing flashbacks from the moment she was born, to her first smile and giggle, the first time she said Mumma, her first step, her 1st birthday, her first day of school,” Melissa remembers.

Miraculously, Ryleigh opened her eyes 14 hours later, and while the alcohol took a few days to fully leave her system, she was alive and is expected to make a full recovery. However, Melissa knows this could have gone very differently if that one girl had decided, like the others they were with, not to get help out of fear of getting in trouble.

“I’m sharing our experience so that EVERY TEEN who may come to be in this situation knows….you will NOT get in trouble for getting someone help!!!! You have the ability to SAVE a precious life!!!!! So please reach out and get help no matter what the circumstances,” said Melissa to urge parents to share her story with their children. “That one girl SAVED my daughters life by contacting someone who could get ahold of me and if it were not for her the reality of it is I would be burying my daughter this week.”

“Don’t ever think this couldn’t happen to you because it is very real and it’s everywhere!!! Our pictures of her may be disturbing to some but our hopes are in sharing our pain we may be able to PREVENT AND SAVE ANOTHER CHILD!!!”

Every driver at some point has been in a hurry and decided to bypass a school bus while it’s pulled over letting a child off, however, one police department is showing drivers how dangerous their impatience can be.

School has been in session for just about two weeks so far, yet there have already been thousands of incidents of drivers not stopping for the school bus stop arm, and in some cases, drivers have actually run over children who were just trying to cross the street to get home. just trying to get home. This past Tuesday, one 17-year-old high school student was crossing the street after getting off the bus, and although he saw a car approaching, he assumed it was safe since drivers are obligated to stop and wait while the school bus stop arm is out.

Unfortunately, the boy realized too late that the driver was not slowing down, and despite trying to run out of the way, the white truck rammed into him and sent him flying about 1o feet towards another car.

“My heart was racing it was just so intense,” said Michael Masuo, who was stopped behind the bus in his car. “He got knocked, I think, 10 feet towards my car.” Apparently, the driver wasn’t aware that both sides of traffic were required to stop.

Thankfully, the boy only had a few scraped and bruises but was taken to the hospital for observation after Masuo called the police. “She was mortified, she thought she killed him,” Masuo said of the 16-year-old driver. “She came out of the car crying and freaking out, but I tried to reassure her he seemed okay at the time.”

58-year-old Luis Antonio Caballero has dedicated his life to caring for dogs and when he’s not out searching for and rescuing homeless dogs, he spends his time working at his pet shop grooming dogs. “We are a family dedicated to the dogs,” wife Gabriela said. “He loves them, and they love him.”

One day while at work, Gabriela left her husband as he was grooming a customer’s dog to take a break to get a drink, and she couldn’t help but whip out her phone and start filming when she got back and found her husband and the dog sharing a special moment.

“I stepped away to make some tea and returned to find Luis dancing,” Gabriela said. “He didn’t realize I was there, so I took out my phone and started recording. This is just a normal day here.”

It takes on average nine months to grow a baby, and in those nine months, a mother’s body goes through incredible changes to accommodate another life. Yet new moms are under extraordinary pressure to erase every sign of what their body had just accomplished as quickly as possible.

Australian mom Laura Mazza struggled with her post-pregnancy body with stretch marks, cellulite, and extra weight, but it was especially hard to come to terms with when she looked back at photos of her pre-pregnancy body. “Every day I look at myself in the mirror and I look at the body that I have now and then I go back and reflect on that image of what I once was,” Mazza said.

“One day I said to myself I’m just tired of not loving me, there’s only one me… it’s time to start loving myself and all I’ve achieved,” said Mazza, who decided to upload an unconventional ‘before and after‘ photo. Instead of showing off weight loss, she wanted to praise her body for all that it had done, and help other struggling moms do the same.

“No, this isn’t a before and after shot of weight loss. But it is a victory story. I write this from my heart. It hurts. On the left – This was my body before kids,” Mazza wrote in blog post, which has since gone viral. “No stretch marks or scars from belly button piercings. A belly button that was high. A flat stomach… On the right is me now. Stretch marks. A droopy belly button. Thicker, not many bones protruding, but more dimples that represent cellulite.”

“People don’t want to see this photo. All of a sudden it’s not okay. It’s not pleasing to the eye anymore. It’s not a body to be admired,” she wrote. “This body, it’s not a result of just meat. It’s a result of eating everything. Fruit, vegetables, carbs; pasta, rice, cakes, chocolate.. Sometimes 20 chicken nuggets. Fish… It’s not always healthy but 99% of it is. The scars and stretch marks and jiggly tummy is because I made humans. I ate a little more cake, I drank a little more wine. I made mug cakes at 9pm and snuggled on the couch with my husband. But for some reason, I didn’t love this body. It’s sad.”

“But you know what? I have achieved more with this body, then I have with my old body. I’ve eaten more good foods. I’ve lived more, I’ve given more, I’ve enjoyed more. I’ve made life. This body, THIS body should be celebrated and admired.”

“life begins now. It doesn’t wait for you to be the perfect weight or the perfect size. You don’t want to look back in 50 years having regretted wasting time waiting for the perfect body size to start living your life,’ Mazza said. “You will only regret the time wasted on worrying.”

Mom Shares Unconventional ‘Before And After’ Photo Of Post-Pregnancy Body is an article from: LifeDaily

Twelve years ago, David Lynde came into Gabriella Guardado’s life when he and her mom Lori Ann got married in 2004, and since then, David has raised Gabriella like his own daughter.

So when Gabriella, who is now 22 years old, started thinking about what she wanted to get her step-dad for his birthday, she wanted to give him something that would reflect how much she loved him, and how much she appreciated everything he’s done for her.

As a teenager, Gabriella wanted to be adopted by her step-dad, however, her biological dad, who has not been involved in her life since getting divorced from her mom in 2001, would not allow it. And when she turned 18, she figured it wasn’t possible anymore and stopped trying.

But when Gabriella’s boyfriend told her adult adoption was an option, she immediately started looking into it. “So I did research and found out that I could do that without the consent of my biological dad,” she said. “He helped me grow into the young woman that I am and helped me through all the hard times of getting through nursing school and becoming a young adult.”

“She came to me and said this is what I want to do, his birthday is coming up and I want him to adopt me,” mom Lori Ann said. “When she told me, of course I cried.”

So when the family got together for dinner, Gabriella sat David down and presented him with his birthday gift, which he first thought was just a pen. But after the family urges him to keep looking in the bag, he finds the adoption papers and realizes what his daughter is giving him.

“Am I adopting you?” David asks as he starts to tear up. “I want you to, you don’t have to, you can say no, but I want you to adopt me. You’ve been my dad and I know legal papers don’t change anything,” Gabriella responded. “Gabby you have no idea how much that means to me,” he says “You have no idea.”
