Getting a call from your child’s daycare or school is never a good thing. But when parents started getting calls from a New Zealand daycare center in the middle of the day, they figured that their child had acted up or possibly got sick.

Parents were terrified after staff from the Discoveries Educare Daycare explained that at 1:30 in the afternoon, a massive tree had fallen over on the playground where 25 of the 47 or 48 children enrolled at the center had been playing. Luckily most of the children were left unharmed, but unfortunately four had been hit.

The staff immediately called for ambulances for the injured toddlers, of which one was in critical condition, one was in critical condition, and the two others had only minor injuries. The rest of the children were ushered inside where they were checked for any other injuries.

And in all the confusion, many parents were never notified if their child was one of the four injured. “I was still 50/50. That’s why I just ran … I really hope the children who are hurt are OK,” said parent Afsheen Kabir, who thought her 4-year-old daughter had been hurt.

Despite the panic, most parents were thankful that the teachers acted quickly and stayed composed in such a traumatic situation. “You could see it on their faces … I feel for the teachers. It’s not easy for them. The kids stay with them every day,” said mom Vik Kumar.”We never heard anything about that tree. The kids loved playing under it,” said Shafiek Isaac, whose son just finished the daycare last week.”Obviously, it’s a freak accident, the wind just came through.”

How would you react if this happened at your child’s daycare? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and please SHARE this with friends and parents on Facebook.

A teen has left the internet sobbing after she posted a photo about her parents’ split on Twitter revealing her father sent her mother flowers on the day their divorce was finalized.

Seventeen-year-old Morgan Lynn from Texas posted a photo of the flowers on Twitter, along with her father’s note that read, “Always gonna be you.”

“My parents after 19 years of being married, were going through a divorce & it got finalized today, & my dad sent my mom her favorite flowers,” Morgan wrote on Twitter.

The teen continued to explain in the comments of her post that her dad used to send her mom flowers when she was having a bad day, and it was no different on the day their divorce was finalized.

“To know that even after today he still did it breaks my heart,” she said. “I have never cried so hard over four simple words.”

Many Twitter users have been moved to over Morgan’s sad, although touching, story, and her tweet has since been shared more than 75.000 times.

They said that they were left heartbroken by the situation, and were asking Morgan why her parents got divorced in the first place. While Morgan did not address the reason that her parents divorce, she did say, “I believe that everyone is seeing true love through this tweet,” she said.

Miracle Dog Survives Being Shot In The Head

The best part of any dog owner’s day is the moment they finally get home from a long day of work to be greeted by their furry loved one with kisses and tail wags.

That’s why when one Florida man’s dog, Anubis, wasn’t at the door to greet him when he got home one evening, he knew something was very wrong. When Chris Watson stepped further into his home, he saw his entire house had been ransacked. He had been robbed and his dog was nowhere to be found.

“I tried calling out for Anubis, but he didn’t answer, so I called police, and the K9 unit went in for me because I was too shaken up,” Watson said. “Sure enough, Anubis came around the corner, and when he saw me, he immediately came over and put my head to my lap. That’s when I realized he was bleeding.”

A police officer shined a light at Anubis, which is when they finally saw the ‘prominent bullet hole’ in his head. They immediately raced Anubis to the vet, yet despite the trauma, the 150-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback seemed perfectly fine.

“Anubis has been handling the whole situation better than I am,” Watson said. “He’s the most friendly dog you can meet. He’s like a little boy. He loves people, and he’s been the highlight of the clinic here. That’s what makes this all the more painful. I don’t understand why anyone would want to shoot a dog like him in the head.”

Luckily, veterinarian Dr. Andrea Smith from the Blue Pearl emergency clinic managed to remove the bullet, which went through his skin, grazed his skull and got stuck in his neck. “It’s incredible, he’s very fortunate,” a spokeswoman said. “The bullet nearly missed major arteries and blood vessels.”

“Anubis is my son,” Watson said. “I can have my items stolen or my house damaged, and all that is replaceable. But Anubis? He’s family.”

Watch the entire video below to see the incredible way this dog is handling such a traumatizing situation.

Can you believe someone would shoot this sweet dog?

School Threatens To Suspend Cancer Survivor For Breaking Dress Code

Many schools have dress codes to make sure students don’t come to class in inappropriate or distracting clothes that might hinder their performance.

However, many believe one Florida school went while enforcing their dress code. According to Ridgewood High School’s dress code, students may not wear any logos on clothing that is larger than the size of a quarter. So when 16-year-old Tyler Powers, who has beaten cancer not once, but twice, showed up to class in a purple Relay for Life “survivor” shirt, he was promptly pulled out of class.

“I was doing my work; I was causing no disruption whatsoever,” said Powers, a class president who beat acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was 7 and then again when he was 10.

Powers was told he could either spend the day in ISS (in-school suspension), call his parents and wait for a change of clothes, or change into a shirt provided by the school. To avoid suspension, Powers changed into a school shirt, but his father insists he shouldn’t have had to change.

“It’s disturbing,” said dad Tim Powers. “There’s nothing about the shirt that was demeaning or hateful. It’s a positive message. We’ve been through all of this, we’ve lived this. When kids are proud of accomplishments, they’re a positive influence on other children. There are kids who look up to him. When something like this happens, it’s almost like a slap in the face.”

However, the school insists the teacher did nothing wrong. “She never noticed what was on his shirt and he ever mentioned anything about being a cancer survivor,” said Linda Cobbe, spokesperson for Pasco County Schools. “If he had said something, she would have listened empathetically and explained to him how the logo size limit applies to all shirts and that they can’t discriminate by allowing one student to wear a special shirt.”

Do you think this boy should have been allowed to wear his shirt to school? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Four Orphaned Baby Animals Form Unlikely Little Family

After losing their parents, four baby animals in Africa decided to form their own family.

In the Voi Reintegration Unit, a rehabilitation center in Kenya, a zebra, a buffalo, and two elands (antelopes), overcame loss and joined together as one family. Amie Alden of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust told The Dodo, “Ngulia (the zebra) was a victim of the bushmeat,” meaning that her mom was probably killed for me, therefore, she was left to fend for herself.”

At first, Ngulia paired up with another zebra, but when a baby antelope arrived at the unit, everything changed. “When [Kore] first arrived, Ngulia became a bit jealous,” Alden says. “She followed the keepers around when they carried a milk bottle for Kore, who was fed every three hours, sometimes even attempting to block their entry into Kore’s stable for milk feeding!”

It was clear she was jealous of Kore, but within a few months, she chose to become her friend instead. The twosome soon became a foursome, and another orphaned eland named Tawi and a buffalo named Jamhuri joined their little orphan clan.

A very unlikely family to say the least, “Jamhuri developed a close attachment to male orphan baby eland Tawi from the outset and, in the early months, was seen suckling on Kore’s ears.”

“Ngulia has much love for the orphan baby buffalo Jamuhuri, and has become very protective and jealous over her, so much that she charges anybody approaching the baby buffalo in her presence,” Alden says.

Children Are Reading To Shelter Dogs To Help Them Get Adopted

The Humane Society of Missouri has created a program where kids are trained to read to dogs as a way of making them ready to go to their forever home.

Through the Shelter Buddies Reading Program, kids are helping shy shelter dogs to get out of their shells. According to The Dodo, this program also benefits the children as it instills a greater sense of empathy in them. “We wanted to help our shy and fearful dog without forcing physical interaction with them to see the positive effect that could have on them,” program director Jo Klepacki told The Dodo. “We launched the program last Christmas, but now we offer it once a month.”

Children ages 6-15 are encouraged to sign up for the program online, and they will learn to read a dog’s body language to tell if they are anxious or stressed. Those stressed animals will be in the most need of special attention.

“Ideally that shy and fearful dog will approach and show interest. If so, the kids reinforce that behavior by tossing them a treat,” said Klepacki. “What this is also doing is to bring the animals to the front in case potential adopters come through. They are more likely to get adopted if they are approaching and interacting, rather than hiding in the back or cowering.”

Credit: Humane Society of Missouri

Klepacki has seen a positive response in these dogs saying that “hearing a child reading can really calm those animals.” The training program is 10 hours, and after they learn to work with the animals under supervision, they can return anytime with their parents and sit and read to the dogs.

The program is “encouraging children to develop empathy with animals. It’s a peaceful, quiet exercise. They’re seeing fearfulness in these animals, and seeing the positive effect they can have,” said Klepacki. “It encourages them to look at things from an animal’s perspective. That helps them better connect with animals and people in their lives.”

Plus, this reading program has been very successful in helping dogs find forever homes. It’s a win-win for the stray animals and the kids who helped them!

Mom Is Arrested For Selling Home Cooked Meals Through Facebook

A California stay-at-home mom never thought her passion for cooking and connection to social media could lead to jail time, but she now faces up to a year behind bars.

Mariza Ruelas is a part of the 209 Food Spot Facebook group, where she and fellow cooks were wrapped up in more than a yearlong investigation uncovering illegal practices.

What was the big crime these cooks were operating? The participants involved were coordinating a food facility and engaging in business without a permit.

[ShutterStock]
[ShutterStock]
In order to catch these crooks, San Joaquin County officials actually went undercover. A participant in the Facebook group (who turned out to be an undercover investigator) contacted Ruelas for a plate of her famous ceviche. But low and behold, it was all a ruse to ensnare this illegal rice ring.

Ruelas told local news she joined the Facebook group about two years ago. She would offer her own dishes; a tray of rice and beans, chicken stuffed avocados or ceviche about once a month. The Mom worked alongside her children aged 6-20, delivering the food in exchange for clothes, a birthday cake, or sometimes enough money to cover the cost of making the home cooked meals.

[Go Fund Me]
[Go Fund Me]
We didn’t see any harm in that,” Ruelas told The Washington Post. “There wasn’t anybody selling it daily. A lot of times, they were just getting back what they put into the ingredients.”

She added the purpose of the group was not to make a profit or carry out illegal business, but simply to build a strong sense of community.

Ruelas and 12 others were charged, though most accepted plea deals that included a year of probation, a $235 fine, and 40 hours of community service. Ruelas, however, decided to fight her charges because she is already on a tight budget and feels she could win. However, she is up against a year in jail for the two misdemeanors.

[ShutterStock]
[ShutterStock]
“I don’t write the laws, I enforce them. And the Legislature has felt that this is a crime,” San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Kelly McDaniel told KTXL. “Food prepared in a facility that does not inspect it creates a risk to the public.”

Perhaps Ruelas said it best when she told the Washington Post, “they took the time to be investigating for over a year now, but they can’t solve all these unsolved murders?”

Very impressed by his son, dad M.J. caught it on video, and uploaded the scene onto the Washington County site, where Caidon became a star. “It’s just been everywhere,” M.J. tells KDKA NewsCaidon’s mom, Shannon Markley is also proud of her son, saying, “We’ve never had anyone in our family all over the internet like that before.”

Have you ever stuck your hand inside the couch cushions and been fortunate enough to find something that doesn’t make you cringe?

What about reaching your hand inside a sofa your roommate bought from a thrift store and finding $40,000 in cold, hard cash? That’s exactly what happened to two New York college kids who bought a lumpy, old couch and made out well on their investment!

[ABC News]
[ABC News]
The couch was purchased from The Salvation Army for $20 in 2014, a price that turned out to be a real bargain when they uncovered the cash hiding inside. When the owners of the couch noticed it was unusually lumpy, they investigated. That investigation led to them finding a folder with $700 inside. When they dug deeper, they found many more folders stuffed with wads of money.

[ABC News]
[ABC News]
One of the folders had the name of a woman, a widow they managed to track down in the phone book. After speaking with her kids, they discovered she had been storing the money in the couch cushions as opposed to a bank account. However, her kids unknowingly donated the couch…and the $40,000 inside it.

The roommates received a reward of an undisclosed amount for their act of kindness! They were also featured on a sweet news story to go with it.

What would you have done if you found $40,000 in a smelly old couch?

A kindergarten teacher in Texas has been arrested after he was accused of touching a female student’s genitals on more than one occasion.

According to court documents, the most recent time such a travesty happened was on September 20, when Berry Elementary School teacher David Salisbury put his hands down a little girl’s pants while the rest of the class watched a movie.

The incident occurred in an area of the classroom where other students would not have seen Salisbury and the victim, and police say the little girl told her mom about the assault the day that it happened.

Although the 5-year-old spoke up this time, she later revealed that the teacher had abused her “a lot of time.”

“When they got home, she took her daughter into a room and asked her to explain what happened,” according to the criminal complaint filed against Salisbury.

The petrified little girl told her mom that the teacher had touched her “private parts” underneath her clothes. According to KTRK, Salisbury has been charged with indecency with a child and his bail is set at $30,000.

The last resting place of ex-Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa is one of the greatest mysteries in modern times. The obnoxious and charismatic union leader had done great work on behalf of blue-collar workers in his lifetime, but he, like so many others, had succumbed to the temptations of corruption and organized crime.

Jimmy Hoffa was last seen on July 30, 1975, waiting outside a Detroit-area restaurant for two of his friends in the Mafia. Today, 40 years later, experts believe they know what really happened to Jimmy Hoffa and where he can be found…

Fed Up With The Constant Shedding, Woman Invents A Special Leotard For Dog Hair

Jules Leotard may have invented the leotard for gymnasts in the mid-1800s, but it wasn’t perfected until 2012 when an equally gifted genius stuck his design on their dog.

Yes, friends, the Shed Defender is here to save every pet parent’s living room. It’s a unique and hilarious leotard that your dog can wear that has a special purpose. While providing entertainment (and flexibility, should your dog take up gymnastics), the innovative garment is intended to keep hair off the couch, car, and comforter.

[Shed Defender]
[Shed Defender]

Inspired by the tremendous amount of hair their dogs shed, the inventors thought of ways to keep the shedding at bay. Realizing everyone was too concerned with the dog hair coming off pets’ bodies, the inventor realized it might be a good idea to keep it stuck as close as possible to them.

[WestCoastLife via Imgur]
[WestCoastLife via Imgur]
According to the product’s Facebook page, “the Shed Defender slides over the dog’s head and then the legs are slipped into their designated sleeves, it is then zipped down along the belly of the dog all the way to the bottom of the tail. Once on, it is fully enclosed; only the head, paws, and tail are uncovered.”

[Shed Defender]
[Shed Defender]

Of course, if your dog is anything like mine, he’ll probably put up more than a fight as you struggle to get him inside this intricate innovation.

[Shed Defender]
[Shed Defender]
But it’s worth a shot, especially as the winter approaches and your dog spends more time indoors. It also has great potential to be a fabulous holiday present for just $49.99. So why not shield your dog from shedding?

A mother of three was saved by her dog, who loyally fought off a terrifying would-be attacker.

The UK woman, whose identity has remained private, says she was two minutes from her mother’s house when a stranger grabbed her by the hair and pulled her into the shadows. He then attempted to pull down her pants, saying, “your dog can watch.”

Struggling, screaming, and desperately trying to break free, the woman said she let go of her dog’s leash, who immediately sank his teeth into the attacker’s arm and sent him running.

The traumatized woman told Belfast Live : “I just can’t get my head round what has happened.”

The woman said she hadn’t seen or heard a thing when the man came out of the shadows and grabbed her. She was close to her mother’s home and was shocked that the attack could happen so easily and swiftly.

The woman said she didn’t get a look at the man’s face. She ran for her life the second she had the chance, but she believed he was a foreigner because of his accent.

“I never thought anything like that would happen to me. I’m still too terrified to leave the house and can’t sleep since it happened,” she said.

The question here is why anybody would ever make a victim of somebody with a dog? What did this attacker expect man’s best friend to do while their master was violated?

A Queensland, Australia woman was left hospitalized after her pressure cooker exploded boiling water all over her arms and neck.

Mother-of-two Carizza Bordeos said she was cooking beef in her Breville Fast and Slow Cooker BPR200 when it exploded fat and boiling water across her body. She said she has had the device for almost four years and it hasn’t given her issues before, but on this day, it left her scared.

The incident happened on September 8, though weeks later, she is still waiting to be contacted by the makers of the product.

The 28-year-old mother and full-time student said she had no idea it could be faulty or dangerous, though now she’s doing research to discover the cause. Upon investigating, she discovered a recall had been issued, though she never received a notice, despite registering the product with her address after purchase.

Carizza said she was vacuuming a few feet away at the time of the incident. She wasn’t even standing over the cooker and still has serious burns.

“Hot water was coming out of the lid, but the lid was still on it, but it was splashing hot water,” she tells Kidspot.

Doctors assessed her as having burns on 10 percent of her body, and she spent four nights in the hospital recovering.

“I would prefer labor birth pains, than burn pains. I would take labor any day over burns,” she says.

Sharon Lenzner, Breville business manager – cooking and food prep says the company is in contact with Carizza but due to the privacy act, can not comment specifically.

Elderly Veteran Vows To Salute American Flag Every Morning Until He Dies

The recent United States Presidential election results have given many Americans a feeling of uncertainty about the future of our country, but if there is anyone who knows how resilient our nation can be it’s our heroes, our older veterans, who have been through and seen it all.

Yet, with all the hate and anger being spread around the country, one East Texas veteran knows that no matter what happens, he will continue a daily tradition that sets his mind right. The army veteran told KLTV that although he worries about the future of the U.S., he will be hopeful about president-elect Donald Trump and refuses to stop honoring the American flag each morning.

“That flag was given to this country by Almighty God. We have died for that flag for years. I’m proud of what I done. I’m proud there’s a God above me and I know my buddies are all right,” U.S. Army veteran Glynn Peel told KLTV.

[KLTV]
[KLTV]
Specifically, the size of the national debt and its effect on social security and Medicare worries the elderly man who lives in a nursing home in Tyler, Texas.

“Naturally I’m worried about my country, yes ma’am, I am deeply worried about my country. I have children and grandchildren. I want them to be able to grow up and be able to enjoy this country like I have. Yes, we have our flaws, but this is the greatest nation on earth,” he said.

[KLTV]
[KLTV]
However, he is hopeful that no matter what happens, his faith in his country and his flag, will persevere.

“My line of thinking is we have a chance to come back to some of our defaults. We have faults as every nation has, but maybe Trump can straighten out some of ’em,” Peel says in the video below. “But we shall see. I could be wrong. God help us if I’m wrong.”

[KLTV]
[KLTV]
When asked if he will continue to support president-elect Trump, Peel revealed that he thinks our country needs to come back to God and put their faith in their new leader to be united. “He’s my president. Until he proves himself unworthy of my choice, I will stand by him,” he said.

Yulfo attended a Knicks game the other night, and All-Star Larry Johnson thanked the retired sergeant for his services, as well as gifted him with a custom jersey.

To make Yulfo’s moment in the spotlight even more memorable, the Knicks surprised Yulfo with a service dog, which he has been waiting to get for 18 months. Yulfo needed the service dog since he was injured on duty and was stationed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for two years.

He had been on the waitlist to get the service dog since then, but thanks to the Knicks, Yulfo’s wish came true sooner than he thought. With the help of Paws of War, Yulfo was given his service dog Murphy, who will provide him with unconditional love, but most importantly help him in the areas he needs it most.

Just because a soldier has left a war zone doesn’t mean their stress and anxiety have left with them.

Our heroes often come home with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in addition to all the other issues that impact daily life. One way of dealing with the emotional side effects of war is a service dog. These animals are trained to help people living with PTSD by providing constant companionship. Whether it’s by waking them from nightmares, soothing them, or alerting them to oncoming headaches, service animals are friends and medics.

However, a service dog can run at a steep price (sometimes as high as $20,000) because of the training required to make a dog ready for the task. For that reason, a hero of another kind has offered his free service dog training skills to vets in need.

Russ Dillon once trained dogs in the military to go into combat. Now he trains dogs for veterans post-combat. Dillon initially started helping the veterans as volunteer service, but then he discovered he could help much more by training the canine companions. He says this gig is much easier than what he used to have to train dogs to do.

Veteran Tim Locklear for example, this program has helped him transition away from many prescriptions that he said would sometimes make him feel worse with side effects. He asked his doctor to help find an alternative, and that’s when he discovered his service dog Boris is enough to get through the day.

Russ doesn’t want to slow down the great work he’s doing for monetary reasons, so he’s started a GoFundMe page that allows donors to sponsor a veteran and service dog team.

Bald Eagles Manage To Get Themselves Stuck In A Storm Drain

A bald eagle was seen in Florida today shielding an injured eagle stuck in a storm drain.

Many news sites thought that the eagle hovered over its companion, in an attempt to protect it from people approaching, but this isn’t what happened at all. According to WFTV News Orlando, the two eagles got into a fight in the sky, sending them both plummeting towards the street.

The bald eagles took cover just outside a storm drain while onlookers tried to figure out how the birds got there and if they were going to be ok. Rescuers flooded the area, and everyone stuck around for hours after one of the eagles must have gotten scared and flew away, and the other fell into the drain. The incident caused a big commotion in the street, and roads were closed as crews worked to retrieve the eagle from the drain.

WFTV and other news sites broadcasted the rescue live on Facebook, and millions of people tuned in. After about 90 minutes, according to the news site, the eagle was eventually rescued by officers who received assistance from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The Conservative tells the WFTV that the eagle has a long recovery ahead, with a broken beak, and severe damage to its feet. They say it could take up to a month for his recovery, and at that point, they will not release it back into the same spot in the wild, as they do not want the two to find each other and continue where they left out. However, it’s likely the bird will find it’s way back to the area, as eagles are very intelligent.
