We’re glad to know our heroes are out there protecting our country from the dangers that prowl the streets…like the officer who heroically slapped a man dressed in a bunny costume.

In what can only be described as the strangest news story to surface in 2016, a police officer in Hopatcong, NJ faces charges after slapping a man dressed as a bunny rabbit, according to the Associated Press.

The encounter was between Nicholas Maresca Jr. and Kevin Hemmerich. Hemmerich came into the police station dressed as a bunny rabbit and blowing an air horn. Despite being told to stop multiple times, he kept doing it.  was captured on a video shot by Hemmerich’s brother. The video shows Hemmerich entering the Hopatcong police station and blowing the air horn repeatedly despite being told to stop.

Jason Hemmerich, the brother of the victim, said two officers began cursing at them and one hit Kevin Hemmerich in the face. However, according to Maresca’s attorney, Anthony Iacullo, the officer was simply acting appropriately and “in accordance with his training and experience as a police officer.”

Jason Hemmerich said his brother had gone down to the police station regarding a warrant related to a motor vehicle incident. If his brother did not take care of the warrant, he faced further consequences. Now, he faces stunned reporters who can’t seem to understand what happened here.

Woodbridge police officer Tim Majek has been calling the “Deer Whisperer” ever since he rescued a buck caught in a net near his home last year.

So when a call came into the Woodbridge Police Headquarters last week about a deer caught in a net, Majek was just the guy to help.

When Majek arrived on the scene, a large buck, roughly about 140 pounds, had gotten its antlers tangled in a soccer net near the Hungarian Manor on Port Reading Avenue.

Two animal control officers assisted Majek and manage to loop a snare around the deer. He then cut the netting off of the deer’s antlers while one of the animal control officers held a towel over the deer’s eyes.

“He was already pretty tired, so he wasn’t fighting us,” Majek told NJ.com. “And I’m an old pro at this point, I guess!”

After the deer was finally free of the net, rescuers jumped away from the animal, unsure of what it was going to do next. Luckily, the dazed deer simply hopped up and pranced off into the woods.

Majek’s second deer rescue didn’t go unnoticed, and everyone at work is calling him the ‘Buck Master’ and the ‘Deer Whisperer.’

“What kind of things do you think are getting thrown at me?” he answers with a laugh when asked if his coworkers had much to say about the rescue. “It’s all in good fun,” Majek says. He happily takes the jokes and feels humbled he was able to help another trapped animal.

But, deer, aren’t the only animals Majek has rescued. In his 22 year tenure, he’s saved a group of kittens and a duck and its ducklings he rescued from a storm sewer. “I’m in love with animals,” Majek said. “In the back of my mind on my way over there, all I could think was, I hope nobody shoots him. And I’m not really afraid of animals either.”

“Just no snakes,” Majek continues. “If it’s a snake caught in a net, you better call someone else.”

7-Pound 7-Year-Old Orphan Comes Back To Life After Being Adopted

Most couples looking to adopt only want to bring home a perfect little baby, which is why many children with special needs or children that are older than a few years old will end up spending years in an orphanage.

However, when Tennessee mom of three Priscilla Morse saw a picture of a severely starved boy with special needs up for adoption in a Bulgarian orphanage, she knew she had to try and save him and give him a loving home. “Everyone is deserving of a family,” said Morse, who was also adopted as a baby.

Morse first saw Ryan’s photo in 2014, and she and her husband David quickly decided to adopt him. Despite already having two biological sons and one daughter adopted from Russia who has Down Syndrome and a congenital heart defect, Morse flew across the world in October 2015 to bring the then 7-year-old boy, who weighed just eight pounds, home with them.

Ryan was skin and bones and covered in hair, which it the body’s last attempt to stay alive by staying warm. “The first meeting was pretty scary,” Morse said. “He was bones and skin, he literally looked like a skeleton. The first thing that went through my head was, ‘he’s going to die.'”

As soon as they landed back in the U.S., Ryan was brought to a hospital and placed on a feeding tube. “I had never in my life seen doctors look at a child and burst into tears,” she said. “They did call social services. They said, ‘I’m sorry, he’s probably going to die.'”

Miraculously, however, Ryan began gaining weight steadily and gaining strength back. Doctors have since determined that Ryan has cerebral palsy, microcephaly, scoliosis, clubbed feet, and dwarfism, but the Morses are confident he will thrive and aren’t afraid of all the extra care he will need since Morse’s brother had special needs. “I was pretty young when he passed away, [but] I remember how much my parents loved him in spite of all his special needs,” she said. “I wanted to give that to a child that was given up because of his special needs.”

Today, Ryan is 23 pounds and has made incredible improvements. “His progress has been nothing short of a miracle in my opinion. The first time I saw him I couldn’t even formulate a sentence. I was convinced he would die before I got him home and now he is a happy, giggly, active boy,” Morse said.

Can you believe how far this little boy has come since being adopted by a loving family? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Puppy With A Cleft Palate Is Saved Right Before Being Euthanized

When three veterinarians saw a days-old pit bull mix’s face, they were convinced she needed to be put dow. But when Jenn Clayton first laid eyes on the puppy’s face, she knew she had to save her.

Ruby the puppy had been born with a cleft lip, which was just a cosmetic deformity, but also a cleft palate, which almost cost her her life since she couldn’t nurse or eat food like other dogs. “She has gaps on both sides of her nose where her lip never grew together,” Clayton said. “The cleft palate prior to surgery was just a hole that ran straight down the middle of her palate, all the way from the front to the very back.”

Photo by Facebook/For the Love of Ruby
Photo by Facebook/For the Love of Ruby

“I volunteer for the Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation, an organization that specializes in the rescue and rehabilitation of ‘special needs’ animals,” Clayton says. “Ruby’s breeder sent us an email within hours of Ruby’s birth. Since I work full-time and knew that Ruby would require round-the-clock care, I encouraged the breeder to take her into her vet and learn how to tube-feed and care for Ruby on her own. But a couple of days later, I got another email saying that Ruby was dying.”

Clayton met the breeder at the vet and was stunned to see the starving puppy. “Ruby was in bad shape,” Clayton said. “She was very thin and dehydrated, and her breathing was labored.” The vet immediately recommended euthanizing Ruby, and two other vets also agreed since she didn’t stand a chance with the cleft palate.

Photo by Facebook/For the Love of Ruby
Photo by Facebook/For the Love of Ruby

“As I sat there with Ruby, trying to make that impossibly difficult decision, she lifted her head and started to try to suck on my finger,” Clayton said. “I knew then that she was a fighter and that she wanted to live. I just couldn’t bring myself to put her to sleep when I knew that all she needed was food.” Clayton decided to take Ruby home and started tube feeding her on a strict two-hour feeding schedule. “It didn’t take long for me to fall head over heels in love. We’ve been joined at the hip ever since.”

Thankfully, Ruby started gaining weight and strength, and when she was four months old, Clayton brought her to a vet who specialized in cleft palate surgery in Pennsylvania. “Her surgery was a total success and she was able to eat canned puppy food for the very first time just hours after surgery. She’s been eating normally and growing like a weed ever since.”

Photo by Facebook/For the Love of Ruby
Photo by Facebook/For the Love of Ruby

Now, Clayton and Ruby are proving that animals with cleft palates don’t need to be euthanized. “We like to say that Ruby and the other animals we rescue are ‘perfectly imperfect.’ Thankfully, more and more rescuers, breeders and veterinarians are realizing that these animals do not need to automatically be euthanized as most can thrive with the right care. In the meantime, we’ll continue to spread the word and do our part to help save as many of these special animals as possible.”

Pit bulls have a bad reputation for being vicious and cruel towards people, but one stray pit bull risked his life in order to protect a total stranger who was being attacked.

In August, a stray dog witnessed a man attacking a woman in Baldwin, Georgia, and when he realized the woman was in danger, he jumped in the way to save her. However, the attacker had a knife, and stabbed the brave dog five times in the chest.

Two police officers found the dog, and couldn’t bare to leave the stray to die after what he just did. “I don’t think we could have let that dog suffer and die. We felt like we needed to get that dog some help after what it had been through,” said Officer Timothy Clay.

They brought him to the vet and was immediately taken in for surgery. He even died twice on the operating table, however, the incredible dog who they named Hero managed to survive. “For those two officers to go to the extent they did to save him is very heroic and very awesome,” said Carla Welch, who runs the Fighting for the Bullys pit bull rescue center. “They almost lost him, but they got him there [to the vet] just in the nick of time.”

Welch helped raise funds for Hero’s medical bills and took him in at the rescue center until they found a loving home for him. “He has had a really rough life. He has had a bum back leg and a bum front leg, but he gets around fine and he’s looking for a good friend,” said Welch.

Thankfully, Tennessee couple Sarah and David Simpson heard about Hero’s incredible story and decided to adopt him. “We are really blessed to be taking this baby and making him family,” Sara Simpson wrote in a Facebook post. “Adjustments are going well.”

Dogs become members of the family, which is why one South Dakota family was devastated when their Beagle was nowhere to be found after a deadly construction accident.

Recently, a 100-year-old Sioux Falls building went under construction to remodel an old bar into a drug store. However, this past Friday, the commercial and residential building collapsed after a construction accident and killed one construction worker, Ethan McMahon, who couldn’t get out of the building in time.

When most people come across an emergency situation like a fire, they call for first responders and wait until the professionals arrive and save the day.

However, when on Irish taxi driver saw a deadly emergency through his rearview mirror, he didn’t hesitate to help the young family trapped inside. 40-year-old driver Derek Malone had been driving a passenger home a little after 4:30 am, but immediately pulled over when they noticed the smoke and flames from a nearby house.

Malone’s instincts kicked in as he jumped out of the car without thinking and sprinted towards the house. He tried breaking the door down, but it was locked from the inside. “The woman was inside with her daughter and I told them to go into the sitting room and lifted the daughter and mam through the window,” he said.

Thankfully the dad also managed to make it out of the house unharmed, but without Malone’s help, the family might not have made it out in time. “If I didn’t get the job God knows what would have happened,” said Malone who was watching a movie at home before he got a call from the passenger to be picked up.

Do you ever have those days where you just don’t want to get out of bed or your goals and dreams feel so far out of sight that you just want to give up?

We all do sometimes, but it’s heroes like 104-year-old Ray Chavez who can help remind us that anything is possible if we step up to the challenge and put in the work.

On December 7, 1941, Chavez was present at the Pearl Harbor bombings off the coast in Honolulu, Hawaii. Today, Chavez returns for the historic, heartbreaking day’s 75th anniversary. He is the oldest known living survivor of the attacks on Pearl Harbor and at his age, however, the journey did not come easily.

Chavez didn’t just survive that historic day, but he has continued to outlive his comrades and proven himself a survivor in another way. For the past three years, he has been a self-described gym rat, working with a train to acquire the strength necessary to make the long journey to Hawaii to commemorate all those who died, on the 75th anniversary.

When it comes to protecting the public, police officers will often go above and beyond the call of duty to help all lives in danger.

Cops can often find themselves in some pretty surprising situations helping animals out of harm’s away, but no police squads seem to see as much animal action as down in Florida.

Just last week a 100-pound manatee was rescued in a very dramatic way after floating into a storm drain and now in Lakeland, Florida authorities had to once again help a gigantic animal who got itself in a rather sticky situation.

Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded with members of the Agriculture Unit and used a Department of Agriculture State Agriculture Rescue Team Equipment Trailer to help a 20-year-old horse who became stuck in deep, mucky water.

[Facebook]
[Facebook]
“Only the head and small a portion of the horse’s back were visible; the rest of the horse’s body was submerged. The A-Frame rescue system was assembled and deployed. Polk County Fire Rescue Squad 591 and Fire Engine 111 responded to the scene assisting with the rope and pulley system used to extract the horse from the pond,” the sheriff’s office said to UPI. “Volunteer members of the PCSO Mounted Search and Rescue Team, or MSART, and two veterinarians also responded to assist.”

[Facebook]
[Facebook]
“The horse was dried with towels and with assistance, was able to stand after being in the water for almost 2.5 hours. The horse was then covered with a horse blanket and placed in a covered barn with hay for the evening,” they wrote in a Facebook post which has since gone viral. “The horse was evaluated by a veterinarian and was in stable condition after the rescue effort.”

A dog named Jackson was found paralyzed and chained to a shelter’s door, after being ruthlessly abandoned by his family.

Although we’re unsure of the reason this dog’s family gave him up,  it may have been due to their inability to pay his medical expenses

A man named Viktor Larkhill wrote on YouTube that Jackson was found Sunday morning and he asked for him to be rushed to the best hospital and for doctors to perform a full radiological study.

X-rays and a CT scan revealed that Jackson did have a spinal injury from a disk hernia, and he would need surgery to correct it.

Surgery was risky, and one with no guarantees, but if it wasn’t performed, Jackson would be paralyzed for the rest of his life.

Doctors decided to go through with the surgery, and thankfully, it was a success!

Usually, with this type of surgery, there are only two outcomes- the animal will either be paralyzed for life or walk again. Luckily, for Jackson, it was the latter.

Just 36 hours after his emergency surgery, Jackson was running around outside, and doctors are describing it as a miracle!

A tiny kitten named Joey had a pretty rough week last wee after a UPS employee found him shrink-wrapped to a package.

“Last week a UPS driver, who is a longtime client, brought him in and he was driving a load that had come in from Chicago,” Dr. Carolyn McCutcheon with the Park Avenue Animal Clinic said. “The load had been packed about four days before.”

“He heard something crying in the back, so he went in with a flashlight and found this kitten shrink-wrapped to the package,” she continued.

The driver then brought the kitten now named Joey to the clinic and there it was determined he was hypoglycemic, and probably wouldn’t have survived another day if he wasn’t rescued. “I’m surprised he was alive,” McCutcheon.

“He was pretty dehydrated and hungry,” she said. “He was shrink-wrapped flat with his four legs out. So it took a while for his legs to work again and for him to move his head again.”

The vets at Park Avenue Animal Clinic in Memphis Tennessee can only speculate on Joey’s journey, but they do not believe what happened to Joey was animal abuse.

Credit: wreg.com

“Probably he was in the warehouse when a machine scared him and he ran up the shrink wrap and the machine just went around him and wrapped him,” Dr. McCuthcheon said.

Joey is recovering but has shown signs that he was traumatized by the ordeal.  “He still won’t let us give him a bath and he still smells like plastic,” said Dr. McCutcheon.

The animal hospital is looking to find Joey a forever home. If you are interested in adopting him, call the hospital at (901) 458-0863.

You may think of a home for elderly folks with Alzheimer’s and dementia as a pretty heartbreaking scene, but one in Arizona has figured out how to lift the spirits of their residents while giving back in the process.

According to TODAY, Catalina Springs Memory Care in Oro Valley has teamed up with local shelter Pima Animal Care to give their aging residents a reason to smile again by bringing over some very adorable newborn kittens who need some extra love.

[Catalina Springs Memory Care]

Many of the Alzheimer’s and dementia patients have difficulty socializing and enjoying life like they used to, so bottle-feeding the tiny kittens makes them feel like they are making a true difference in the world.

[Catalina Springs Memory Care]

“The residents know they are doing important work and contributing to their community, and that’s something these folks don’t get a chance to do very often,” Rebecca Hamilton, health service director at Catalina Springs, told TODAY. Interacting with the sweet babies also brought back many happy memories for residents about their own pets, as well.

“I remember one woman said very confidently,’I can do this. I’ve done this before with my own cat,”’ Hamilton said. “Those muscle memories then do activate pathways in the brain and other memories start to surface.

[Catalina Springs Memory Care]

“Just in that respect it’s therapeutic, but I think more than triggering memories, it’s therapeutic to have something to love, to hold and to cuddle and be loved by.”

While the idea of therapy animals for the elderly is nothing new, the way it helps the often hopeless patients feel like they are making a difference in the lives of motherless babies can do wonders. Being such big animal lovers here at LifeDaily, we can’t believe no one has thought of such a genius idea before. Not only does the program help these poor, stray animals, this kind of interactive therapy can have great effects on the patients and give them a reason to stay smiling… and that’s something we can all agree should happen more these days!

When dogs go missing, their owners are racked with anxiety about where their beloved pet is and if they’ve managed to stay safe while on their own.

That anxiety only worsens as time passes since the chance of finding their pet healthy and safe drops each day. And when US Army Sergeant Dahlberg’s dog Ginger ran away, Dahlberg and her daughter were confident that they’d find her if they looked hard enough. However, after over four weeks passed since they had last seen her, the family started to worry that they’d never get to see Ginger again.

“Ginger ran away several weeks ago, and Sgt Dahlberg and her daughter were afraid their beloved puppy was lost forever,” a spokesperson from the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California said. Thankfully, Dahlberg never gave up on Ginger, and when the shelter finally found Ginger and put her listing up on their site, Dahlberg spotted the ad and contacted the shelter immediately.

“After constant searching, they found Ginger on our website – and you can see how happy both she and her family were to be reunited.” Once Dahlberg stepped inside the shelter, Ginger lit up and her tail didn’t stop wagging despite picking up a deadly viral disease while missing.

Many parents drag their feet when they have to go to their children’s school plays, recitals, and parent teach conferences, but one dad who hasn’t been able to come home for over a year knows that being able to witness those moments is a gift.

For the past 15 months, Sergeant Jimmy Dale Sprouse has been deployed in the military and has had to sacrifice precious time with his family and loved ones. But he finally made it back home this week in time for the holidays and decided to surprise his daughter.

“It’s not only the soldier that is serving this country,” Sprouse said. “It’s the families, it’s the kids, it’s the grandparents, it’s everybody. They’re serving with them.”

And all those months away started to take a toll on Sprouse and his family. “They have to deal with a lot with me being active duty military. Being gone for long amounts of time, not being able to talk as much as you’d like to. Not being able to be at basically school events that, you know, most parents get the advantage of doing.”

With the help of his daughter Shelby’s school, he showed up during band practice with a bouquet of flowers, quietly snuck up behind her, and poked her on the back. And the minute she looked into his eyes, Sprouse broke down in tears.”Oh, I’m still shaking,” Sprouse said.

“It’s a lot of emotion. It’s nice to finally actually be home. You don’t realize how much you miss home until you’re gone…It’s hard being away from home and you finally get to see them again. How much they’ve grown, how much you missed out on. She was about right ‘here,'” Sprouse said as he pointed to his waist. “But she, she got big. Video-ing with them don’t do them justice.”

Dogs are generally a pretty good judge of character, and for one lost California dog, that skill might have just saved his life.

After wandering the streets for hours on a cold night, a lost Labrador Retriever named Ruger spotted a police officer and knew he could trust him to keep him safe and maybe even give him a warm spot to sleep. And once the cop got out of his car, Ruger made his move since he knew he wouldn’t last much longer in the 20-degree weather.

According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page, Deputy Jon Hammell had stepped out of his car at about 1 a.m. after spotting a suspicious car. “Deputy Hammell left his driver door open and walked up to the vehicle so he could speak with the occupants,” they explained.

However, when Hammell returned to his car, he discovered the black dog curled up on the warm passenger seat. “Ruger had made himself comfortable while Dispatch located his owner’s address from the information listed on his collar,” the police wrote in the post. “He fell fast asleep in the warm patrol car as his owners were located. Deputy Hammell gave him a ride home, and Ruger’s owners were very pleased to see him as they had been looking for him all evening.”

“We enjoyed having him for a short ride along this morning and are thankful we were able to return him to his family,” they added. “Remember if you are lost and see a Law Enforcement Officer they will help you find your way home!”

Most moms will drop whatever they’re doing at a moment’s notice for their child, and do whatever they need if it means keeping them safe and happy.

And for one amazing mom, not even being in labor could stop her from doing what her toddler needed. After mom Kate Neal went into labor with her second child, she was rushed to the hospital, and as she waited for her new baby to arrive, her two-year-old toddler stopped by the hospital to say hello.

“She was so excited to see her 2-year-old daughter when she came for a visit,” Kate’s birth photographer Meagan Dougherty said. “And so excited to meet her new baby girl. Her joy was lovely and inspiring.”

But as soon as her daughter climbed up onto the bed and next to her mom’s lap, she asked if she could nurse, and the incredible mom didn’t even hesitate even though she was about to give birth. “This mom showed so much strength,” Dougherty said. “Labor is hard. Really hard.”

And just two hours after Dougherty captured the incredible moment between Kate and her firstborn, she welcomed another healthy baby into the world. “The deep connections that this mom had with her husband, their mothers, and her sisters were beautiful,” Doughtery added. “They knew how to support her and they did so with so much love.”

For many teenage girls, a quinceañera is a day even more anticipated than her wedding!

It’s a celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday with cultural roots of Latin America but is celebrated all over the world, much like a Sweet 16 in the United States. It’s basically a big party, and also a right of passage for many young women. Normally, you would imagine there would be anywhere from 50+ guests, but in the case of one teen, her guest list included 1 million!

According to Fusion, the girl’s father posted a video invitation on Facebook, which turned into a viral sensation, where over 1 million people RSVP’d yes

The party was really only meant for close family and friends but it caught the attention of internet trolls who shared the video with everyone they knew.

Quickly, 1 million people confirmed they would be attending the party, and some even created copy-cat events and memes about the party.

Because of the public’s overwhelming reaction, Rubi’s father reached out to the creators of the fake events asking for them to remove them and clarify that the party was only intended for family and friends, not all of Mexico.

Sadly, his request only made matters worse and Rubi’s quinceanera had become the don’t-miss party of the year.

Rubi’s father eventually had to announce the party was canceled, which was supposed to take place in La Joya, a small town in the central state of San Luis Potosi, and several local bands were scheduled to play during the celebration.

Sorry Rubi.
