Christmas morning is all about surprises, joy and being surrounded by the ones you love, especially the little ones who wait for Santa all year long.

Yet if you don’t have any children or grandkids yourself, every pet parent knows that the next best thing is to spoil their fur kids.

Just like tiny tots, Man’s Best Friend loves to go wild over a new toy or gift…and the best part is that puppy presents never have to break the bank. They have a lot to teach us about gratitude since they’ll be happy with just about anything!

One man who knows well that a good gift is all about making that special someone smile is Noel Parsons of London, UK, whose Christmas morning video has gone viral since being posted to Facebook.

Instead of wrapping up a bouncy ball or squeaky toy (although they do seem to make an appearance in the video) Parsons knew the best gift he could give his furry Bolognese friend was himself.

In the clip, we see Trouble make his way over to the super-sized present and start sniffing around. You can instantly see how excited the little pup gets when he realizes the surprise is his owner, as he licks him all over.

When it comes to the season of giving, this is the perfect example of how it really is the thought and not the price tag that counts. Nothing beats a gift from the heart!

Coming home for Christmas (…as a giant present for your dog)

Here’s proof that the very best presents can’t be bought in a store.

This December, countless kids will be flocking to their loved ones’ sides for some quality time around the Christmas tree. However “Home for the holidays” isn’t as special for those children who are without families and don’t know where to officially call home.

In the following video, we see how one couple gave three children the ultimate gift for the holidays: the gift of love and family.

Posted to YouTube by Sarah Perks, we see a big brood of 7 seven kids gathered in their living room on Christmas morning, with mom and dad by their sides. You would never know that all 7 kids aren’t blood-related in this big, loving family photo, but we soon learn that three of the little ones are actually orphans.

They already have the matching holiday pajamas, but they’re not official until Dad hands over the paperwork they’ve been waiting for.

The older boy is truly at a loss for words, while the two younger ones have a little bit of a harder time understanding. It will truly make your heart melt when the other kids of group tell their three new siblings things like “you’re one of us now” and “forever and ever,” and Michael tells them they can officially take his last name.

Mom Walks 30 Hours Through A Snowstorm To Save Her Family

A mother would do anything if it meant saving her family, and when one Pennsylvania mom and her family slid off the road and into a ditch, she knew she had to find help.

Forty-six-year-old Karen Klein and her husband Eric were on their way to the Grand Canyon National Park with their 10-year-old son, but since it’s winter, one of the main roads to the canyon’s north rim was closed and their GPS showed them an alternate route through the park’s service roads.

However, the family’s car ended up sliding into a ditch when after they started driving down the snow covered service roads and tried to turn around. Klein knew no one would likely pass by them since the road was so secluded, and since it was snowing so hard, she knew they would have to get to the major highway to find help before it was too late. Klein was a triathlete and had taken wilderness survival classes, and volunteered to go, However, when she got to the nearby highway it was deserted since it had also been closed because of the snow and decided to keep hiking to the park’s entrance.

For the next 30 hours, Klein hiked 26 miles through the storm and wilderness, and when she ran out of food she ate pine twigs and drank her own urine. The final few miles took nine hours for her to walk, since she would make it 10 feet before collapsing and then fight to pick herself up again. At one point, she took her shoe off to get ice out, and when she couldn’t get it back on she kept on walking the final four miles without it.

Knowing Klein had been up for 45 hours, Eric began to worry when she didn’t return the next day and decided to take their son and hike to higher ground where he found cell service and called for help. Rescuers soon got to Eric and his son, but Klein was still missing. Rescuers searched for 6 hours and finally found her huddled in a guard’s cabin, which she broke into and tried to keep warm with blankets found inside.

Miraculously, Klein was alive and is now recovering in the hospital. “What kept her going, she says, is she didn’t want her mother to bury her daughter. She didn’t want her son to be without a mother,” Klein’s twin sister Kristen Haase said.

Dogs would do just about anything for their companions, and when one injured dog got stuck on a railroad track in Uzhgorod, Ukraine, her best friend risked his own life to protect her for two days straight.

While crossing the train tracks, an injured dog named Lucy got stuck on the track, and instead of leaving her behind, best friend Panda stayed behind with her and refused to leave her side. And when trains zoomed by, he would lay down beside her and press her head down so she wouldn’t be killed.

“It’s such a touching story. I got a phone call from a friend who said that there were two dogs lying on the railway track near Tseglovka village for two days,” said rescuer Denis Malafeyev. “When we arrived, it turned out that one of the dogs, the female, was injured and couldn’t move. But the male dog was protecting her from us. I saw a train approaching – and felt sick.”

“The male dog heard the sound of the approaching train, came close to the female dog and laid down next to her. Both of them pushed their heads towards the ground, and let the train pass. The male dog was doing this for two days in a row. Think about it. He was keeping her warm,” Denis said.

“I don’t know what to call this: instinct, love, friendship, loyalty? One thing I know for sure, not all the people would do the same as this,” said Denis, who brought the dogs to get medical treatment and helped locate the dogs’ worried owner.

Abandoned Dog Found Clinging To Trash After Owner Moves Away

Dogs are the most loyal companions, and even after one Detroit dog was left abandoned on the street like a piece of trash, he still refused to leave in case his owners decided to come back and save him.

The dog would have stayed there in the freezing cold until he died, but luckily, a concerned neighbor called Terri Looby, a volunteer for the Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG), who went out on her lunch break and discovered a dog curled up on a pile of discarded furniture.

“There were some boxes, trash bags and a chair sitting at the curb for pickup day,” Looby said. “As we passed the trash, I noticed that there was a dog curled up in the tightest little ball possible… We pulled over to the curb and got out of the car. As soon as the dog heard us, he picked his head up and looked at me. I said, ‘Hi baby, it’s OK. Come see me.’ His tail was wagging, and he jumped off the chair and started limping toward me. He knew he was safe!”

“He jumped in and sat in the back seat,” Looby said. “He smelled the chicken patty that I had brought with us. We told him, ‘It’s OK, go ahead and eat it.’ He grabbed that chicken patty so fast.” Looby was about to drive away with the dog, who she named Ollie-Loo, when a neighbor ran out to them. “I told her who I was — that I was with a no-kill animal rescue called DAWG,” Looby said. “She said the owners were kicked out about a week ago, and the landlord kicked the dogs out of the house. She said that the owners did come back for the small dog, but left Ollie-Loo out with the trash.”

Looby later brought Ollie-Loo to the vet, who determined that the dog was about one and a half years old, and had been outside for about two weeks since his ribs were visible. The vet also discovered Ollie-Loo had a broken femur and is going to undergo surgery to fix it. Until then, he has been resting at his foster family’s home.

“Ollie-Loo enjoys being with his fosters, whether it is laying on the couch, curled up in bed or just laying in a dog bed that’s a little too small for him,” Looby said. “Ollie-Loo has been a very sweet, happy, tail-wagging puppy who just wants a family to love him and not toss him out like he is trash.”

Most boys beg their parents to get them the latest video games or even a new puppy, but for the past six years, the only thing one Oklahoma boy has ever wanted was a new last name.

When 11-year-old Landon was just five months old, his mom Janelle met her now-husband Daniel Rice, who has been a father to Landon and has loved him as his own ever since. However, as he got older, Landon couldn’t help but feel like he wasn’t part of the family since he didn’t have the same last name as his parents and two siblings.

When Landon was five years old, he told Janelle that he wanted to ‘marry daddy like I did’ so that he would have the same last name, and six years later, Janelle and Daniel were finally able to make that happen. After submitting all the paperwork, the couple was thrilled to find out that it had been approved and Daniel was officially Landon’s legal parent, and decided to surprise Landon with the news on Christmas morning as one of his gifts.

And on Christmas morning, Janelle filmed the awesome moment Landon broke down when he discovered he was now officially part of the Rice family. “It’s not flesh and blood, but the heart that makes us father and son,” the adoption certificate reads.

A couple who were told they could never have children in a natural birth are celebrating a ‘Christmas Miracle’ after they became parents on Christmas Day.

First-time parents Aneesa and Jesse were stunned when they were told Aneesa was pregnant because, she was told she could never give birth to a child of her own.  But on Christmas Day at 7:27 pm, Piper Jessie California arrived at Yeovil Hospital weighing 7lb 2 oz.

Piper’s dad, Jessie, tells SomersetLive: “My partner was told she could never have children so when we got the news she was pregnant it was very unexpected. We were never worried or scared but with her medical background it was a bit nervy at times.”

Jessie describes the birth saying, “Yesterday (December 25), the birth was a like a scene from The Exorcist. It was all over in six hours, that’s all it took, but I’m a fainter and I don’t like blood.” “But Aneesa did amazingly well,” he continued.

While the new family is so grateful for the birth of their baby girl, they said, “We’re probably going to celebrate her birthday in the summer so she can see friends and they’re not all busy at Christmas.”

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water comes a viral video you have to see to believe.

Whether they’re helping out their fellow furry friends or human companions, man’s best friend is well known for being a hero in many different ways. Yet every so often a dog will have a little too much hubris for their own good and get themselves into some pretty sticky situations.

In the following video filmed at a beach on the Torres Strait in Australia, we see one of these extremely daring dogs jump into the wild blue see to take on a pretty terrifying opponent. The clip shows a tiny dog jumping into the water after spotting a large tiger shark and swims out to try and take the shark down.

Now, if you’ve ever found yourself on a Shark Week binge, you probably know that most sharks don’t bite humans or other land-dwelling mammals when they happen to come across them. The tiger shark, on the other hand, is an exception who is known to be quite a dangerous predator and is often found in surfing and swimming waters in places like Australia and Hawaii.

Luckily for this brave little dog, the tiger shark wasn’t in the mood for a showdown that day, so the dog decided to call it quits and swim back to his owner on shore.

Check out the unbelievable video below and let us know what you think in the comments!

Perhaps man gets along with dogs so well because we are both such social beings who crave personal connections.

That’s why it’s so difficult for us to imagine a life completely on our own without a family, friends, or pets to love. Yet this is the reality for so many dogs on the streets who have nowhere to go.

With no home and no human to help feed and take care of them, so many dogs around the world are forced to fight for survival, eating and sleeping wherever they can find to stay alive. In the following video from Los Angeles-based Hope For Paws rescue organization, we see the incredible heart-pounding rescue of one of these homeless animals who has never known the love of a human being before.

[Hope For Paws]
[Hope For Paws]
In the following video from these animal angels, a small, petrified white dog living a dangerous life on the streets is terrified of being rescued. Afraid of human contact, the dog would run away and bark whenever a hero tried to reach out and help him to no avail. Luckily, the experts refused to give up and were ultimately able to convince the sweet stray he was better off with them than on his known.

One woman could not stand by and watch when evil owners left their dog outside in the pouring rain.

A man named Casey Boatman from Denver, Colorado, witnessed the dog chained to a tree outside his home and started filming

Boatman wrote on YouTube, “Went to shut my front window because water was coming in when I saw that somebody left this dog tied to a tree. It had been nearly ten minutes since the rain and hail started.”

In a turn of events, Boatman then witnessed an act of kindness by his neighbor. The woman did not know the dog or the owner, yet she ran out of her home, grabbed a knife and cut the rope that tied the dog to the tree.

The woman then grabbed the dog and led him into her home where he could dry off, warm up and hopefully get some food.

While we’re unsure of what happened to this dog’s owner, we are grateful that a good samaritan stepped in to do the right thing. If you see something, say something, but better yet, do something! We hope that more people will act when they see a dog in need of help.

Dog Living In Abandoned Apartment For Weeks Is So Happy To Be Adopted

When a family was evicted from their home in Dallas, Texas, they left behind their beloved dog like she was a piece of trash.

The poor pet spent a week alone in the abandoned apartment with no access to food or water and no heat. Luckily, rescuers got to the dog just in time, and they took her to the vet, where she was boarded and hydrated via IV fluids.

Over the next 12 hours, she would be slowly reintroduced to food. Sadly, the bottom half of her body, butt, and tail are stained yellow from having to live in her own urine and feces for who knows how long.

An Imgur user named Humdrumdergifan posted the entire story online, saying: “24 hours ago, she was found in an apartment where the tenants were evicted a week ago. Before you even ask, she is so calm and chilled out that she doesn’t bark. She just wines very softly, that’s why no one heard her in the apartment.”

Credit: Imgur- Humdrumdergifan
Credit: Imgur- Humdrumdergifan

He continued saying that the dog’s previous owner and her boyfriend kept the dog in their third-floor apartment. They rarely ever took her for a walk, simply to go to the bathroom on the balcony.

“In DFW the past few nights, the temperature dropped to below freezing at night time and the AC/heat unit was turned off. In addition to being in jail for assault, the woman is now facing animal cruelty charges,” Humdrumdergifan wrote.

The dog has no concept of a lease or collar, so her new owner bought her a stretchy red harness to help with leash training.

“She is scared, timid, nervous and shy. I’ve been showering her with affection, attention, and love. She’s already gaining confidence, weight and is turning into a real character. She has to be touching me at all times. She is the sweetest and most gentle dog I’ve ever had,” he wrote.

The man continued saying that he has been through a lot in the past few months, and he’s lost everything except for his job. “I am a different person with a dramatically different life. I lost my two dogs to my soon to be ex-wife and my psyche has been a complete disaster not having a dog to take care of the last 10 weeks. I need this dog just as much as she needs me. So happy,” he said.

We are very happy this dog and this man found each other at a time when both of them needed it most.

Everyone has their own way of dealing with grief and tragedy, and when one new mom’s newborn baby passed away at just 11 days old, she decided to donate as much of her breast milk as possible.

“When my breast milk came in I was pumping a whole lot. I decided right away to donate it, because I knew he wasn’t going to make it,” said Ariel Matthews, who also donated 510 ounces of breast milk last year before after she gave birth to a stillborn baby.

“After I pumped 1000oz I decided to keep going and set another goal, which was to pump my body weight in breast milk. I got the idea from my dad. Well, I succeeded! All those ounces come out to about 148.1 lbs., which is more than I weigh,” Matthews wrote in an emotional post to her Instagram.

In total, Matthews was able to donate 2,370 ounces, or 18.5 gallons, of her breast milk to three mothers who could not produce their own milk. “Thanks to my sweet Ronan I was able to bless three babies with milk. After I empty out my freezer, 2,300 of those ounces will have been officially donated. I defiantly feel lucky to have been able to help babies stay healthy, and grow,” the stay-at-home mom of three-year-old Noah wrote.

“It felt really good to donate it all, especially because I would get hugs from the moms when they came to pick it up and thank yous. And that the moms were trusting me to give their babies my milk — it feels really good,” Matthews said. “If good things can come from a loss — if I can encourage people that this isn’t the end, we can get through this, and live a good life, and not let the bad things tear us down,” she says. “I like to know that there’s actually people being encouraged by this. I’ve even gotten messages on Facebook saying this has really helped me, that I hope I can be like this.”

Dogs are normally pretty aware of their surroundings and nearby danger, however, when one Australian dog spotted a wallaby, she was so determined to catch it that she didn’t realize how close she had gotten to a dangerous cliff.

Six-year-old spaniel Grace ended up running right off a cliff in Tasmania and ended up fighting for her life in the strong currents below. She tried to swim away, but the currents in the blowhole were too strong. Luckily, when the water level in the blowhole rose, she managed to climb up on a ledge in the cliff and wait for help.

Strangers witnessed the accident and immediately called the police for help. Constable Dave Fitzgerald arrived soon after and got to work rescuing the scared dog named Grace by tying a rope to a tree and lowering himself down. “We didn’t know how she would react to strangers trying to grab her, but I think she was very scared and tired and pleased to see a friendly face,” Grace’s owner Trish Alford said after Fitzgerald managed to climb back up the cliff with the exhausted dog in his arms.

“We are so thankful to the strangers who alerted us to what had happened and to the police who rescued her,” Alford said. “I am amazed she is not hurt. Firefighters will do whatever it takes to save a life, no matter how long it takes them. And when one poor pup got trapped nearly 10 feet underground, a dedicated group of first responders worked tirelessly for hours to save it.

This past week, a small dog from Petres, Spain wound up stuck inside a pipe 9.8 feet below the ground, and while no one knows how it got there, local firefighters knew the dog would die without their help and quickly got to work rescuing the helpless animal.

For 12 hours, the firefighters dug through mud and dirt until they finally reached the pipe, cut it, and pulled the trapped dog out. The rescuers have no idea how long the poor dog had been stuck like that, and were amazed when they pulled him free and saw that he appeared to be unharmed.

Baby Orangutans Rescued From A Man Selling Them Online For $28,000

You can buy and sell just about anything online, and unfortunately, that includes wild and endangered animals that have been ripped from their homes in the wild.

Recently, two baby orangutans were ripped from their homes and put up for sale online illegally for almost $28,000 by a wildlife trafficker who was ready to give the two babies away to the highest bidder no matter how they planned to treat the endangered animals.

Thankfully, however, the Thai police got a tip about an ad on a social media site for the baby orangutans and posed as a buyer. When the trafficker showed up to sell the animals, the police immediately arrested him and saved the poor babies, who were being kept in a plastic box, and are now getting them the care they need.

“These types of arrests are very, very important because this is not a single case,” said Matthew Pritchett, Director of communications for Freeland Foundation.”It’s something that is linked to much larger, broader, regional organized criminal syndicates that are smuggling these endangered species for profit.”

“It is really saddening to see cases like this, when you see two very young orangutans, probably only a few months old, that have been taken away from their mother, to be somebody’s pet,” Pritchett said. “That is all that this is for, is because somebody is greedy enough to think that these types of animals will make a big pet. That means that people try to trade them for profit.

Soldier Gets His Smile Back After Jaw Was Shot Off 10 Years Ago

On Christmas day ten years ago, Navy soldier Dustin Kirby was serving in Karmah, Iraq when he was shot in the face by a sniper.

He has spent every single day of his life since in agony. “I put on my gear, swung my rifle over my shoulder and when I took one step outside of the post everything went white,” Kirby said. “I had no idea what happened. I noticed when I tried to speak I sounded funny. Then, I put my hand out and one drop of blood hit my hand followed by more blood than I had seen in my entire life.”

“I was gathering pieces of meat and a bunch of debris in a little pile on the floor. I had no idea how bad it really was until I reached down and picked up an entire tooth with jaw still attached,” the now 32-year-old said. Kirby worked as a Navy hospital corpsman 2nd class, and managed to get to the aid station and apply bandages and administer an IV drip before he was airlifted to surgery to be stabilized.

Kirby was then sent to hospitals in Germany, Maryland, and finally home in Georgia where he underwent 30 surgeries to rebuild his jaw with metal screws, but nothing helped his pain. “Sometimes it hurt just to breathe. I had basically given up hope that I would ever stop feeling pain,” Kirby said.

Finally, in October 2015, Kirby went to New York and met Dr. David Hirsch, who was asked to help by the Marine Assist program, which provides plastic surgery and dental reconstruction to Marine veterans. “His jaw wasn’t aligned, he had infected hardware and metal holding things together, he lost a lot of salivary gland function and his teeth were decaying,” Hirsch said. In April, Kirby underwent another surgery where his jaw was re-broken and sawed down, and had metal removed.

“I’ll never forget waking up after surgery, opening my mouth and feeling just amazing. The pain that had become a part of me was gone,” said Kirby. Then in October, Kirby underwent his second surgery with Hirsch and was given new dental implants and teeth. For the first time in a decade, Kirby had his smile back. “Without question, this will be the best Christmas I’ll have since that day. Even though there will always be a dark cloud for me during Christmas, I’ll finally be able to smile for my kids,” the father of four said.

Woman Saves Her Best Friend’s Baby From Dog Attack

When one Washington went away on a weekend trip with her husband to celebrate their anniversary, she knew she’d be leaving her kids in good hands with her best friend.

Yet mom of three Cassy had no idea that her best friend Felicia Hambrick would sacrifice her life in order to save her 8-month-old daughter when the family’s pit bull named Roscoe violently attacked Hambrick, who used her body as a human shield to protect the baby.

“He wasn’t vicious to us in any way,” Cassy said. But shortly after Hambrick arrived at the family’s home, Roscoe tackled her and the baby to the ground and began violently biting her. “I knew he didn’t want her. He was coming after me,” said Hambrick, who still made sure she stayed between Roscoe and the baby.

Cassy’s mother had been outside when the attack began, and quickly ran inside to rescue her granddaughter and then eventually was able to beat Roscoe off Hambrick before an ambulance arrived. “I remember it hurting so bad that I was literally screaming, ‘I just want to die. Oh God, please let me die.’”

Hambrick was rushed to the hospital where doctors determined she had been bitten about 30 to 40 times and had to give her 94 staples to hold the wounds together. “They’ve told me quite often how terrible they felt. She felt like it was her fault. But it’s not,” Hambrick said of her best friend after she began recovering from the traumatic attack.

“There’s nothing that Felicia can say or anybody can do that’s going to make me feel not guilty,” Cassy said. “If I was home, this wouldn’t have happened. She’s my best friend. Because of me, her life is forever changed.” Yet Cassy is also grateful to her friend for sacrificing herself. “I’m so thankful for her,” Cassy said. “If the dog had gotten to my baby in any way, she could have died. I’m so thankful that Felicia took that and put it on herself instead of my baby.”

6-Year-Old Hacks Mom’s iPhone And Buys Herself $250 Worth Of Christmas Gifts

(NEWSER) – The most famous, and unlikeliest, hacker in the news this week is little Ashlynd Howell of Little Rock, Ark. The exploits of the enterprising 6-year-old first came to light in a Wall Street Journal story about the difficulties of keeping presents a secret in the digital age. It seems that while mom Bethany was sleeping on the couch, Ashlynd gently picked up her mother’s thumb and used it to unlock the Amazon app on her phone. She then proceeded to order $250 worth of Pokemon presents for herself. When her parents got 13 confirmation notices about the purchases, they thought that either they’d been hacked (they were, as it turned out) or that their daughter had ordered them by mistake. But she proudly explained, “No, Mommy, I was shopping.” The Howells were able to return only four of the items. That nugget from the Journal story has now charmed the Internet. “Child genius,” declares a post at New York magazine, while Gizmodo hails this “kid hero.” CNET points out that the FTC has been cracking down online retailers, including Amazon, Apple, and Google, for making it too easy for kids to buy things, but suggests parents might want to wear gloves while napping around gift time. “This is pretty unique case, as several factors contributed to the child’s digital shopping spree, including the Amazon app being set up for password-free ordering,” observes a post at BGR. But it shows just how easy it is to foil security features, adds Mike Wehner. “I mean, really, if a six-year-old can beat it, just how secure is it?” (Returning too much stuff can get you banned on Amazon.)

They say you can’t truly appreciate how much your parents did for you until you have kids of your own. Whether this rings true for you or not, there is no denying that this feeling isn’t more prevalent for parents than during the holidays. From making trips to the mall to wait on long lines and have your kid scream when they finally sit on Santa’s lap to expertly devising CIA-level plans to get the little ones asleep in time to bring their gifts down from hiding, Mom and Dad are the real heroes of the holiday season. Not to mention how much parents struggle to afford all of it come December.

However, nowadays parents have an entirely different set of worries than just whether or not their curious kiddies will go snooping for presents or if a classmate will ruin Santa too soon. Now, parents have to worry about banner ads revealing their latest purchases, email confirmations popping up, and Amazon Prime boxes arriving earlier than they need be. Thanks to the internet, Christmas has become harder to pull off than ever before, leaving many of us feeling like Clark Griswold and feeling a sigh of relief that 2017 is in our midst. So how can we blame this little girl for taking matters into her own hands and becoming her own Santa Claus, ensuring she would get the very latest and greatest Pokémon toys on Christmas morning? Either way, it’s a little heartbreaking to realize that the days of wishing and hoping for Santa to deliver a Red Ryder BB Gun has long been replaced by parents fighting over the latest gadget or easy one-click shopping.

Who do you think is to blame in this situation… Amazon, for being so easy a 6-year-old can hack their way to check out and having a crummy return policy? Little Ashlynd for being born into an internet-powered world and using her skills to get what she wants under the tree? Or society in general, for spinning the sacred holiday season into a month-long shopping spree with parents after Hatchimals or the latest kid crazy, but really out for blood?

They say a dog will do just about anything for his master. No matter what happens between a man and his best friend, our dogs love us no matter what and the following incredible story shows how the best pet parents will always do the same for them in return.

A dog from Whitecourt in Alberta, Canada has a new leash on life today thanks to the brave actions of his owner. According to a report from Global News, 31-year-old William Gibb and his brother were meeting a friend for coffee at their local Tim Horton’s restaurant, a Canadian staple, when Gibb ended up saving his dog, Sasha’s, life.

“I let my dog out quickly to go to the bathroom, and within less than 30 seconds, she starts crying out,” Gibb told Global News. “So I went and saw something wrapped around her – I didn’t even know what it was. I went over and hit the thing in the head. It ended up being a cougar and I thought, ‘what the heck?'”

When Gibb let the husky out, a dangerous cougar seemingly came out of nowhere and attacked the poor dog. A true pet parent, Gibb didn’t hesitate to punch the wild cat right on its head, before kicking, yelling, and screaming to chase the cougar away.

“I scooped her up with my left, swung at the cat with my right. I tried to keep it away from me. I got a little scratch across the wrist but it didn’t do anything to me,” Gibb told Global News. He quickly called the police to the terrifying and unusual scene.

First responder Sgt. Jack Poitras told Global News he was shocked to hear how the brave pet parent swiftly went after the wild animal and saved his dog’s life. “I wouldn’t recommend everybody wrastle with a cougar, but in this case it worked for the best.”

Although the cougar tore into the poor dog’s muscles and she suffered claw tears, she is expected to make a full recovery.”She’s a tough one,” Gibb said. “She’s been pretty quiet, just recovering. It’ll take her a few days to get back to her normal self.”

The cougar, on the other hand, was put down by police after speaking with Whitecourt fish and wildlife officials.

“If you’re out in the wilderness near the mountains, be aware that cougars and other predators are out there. Just be mindful of that, when you’re out and about with your pets,” Sgt. Poitras said in a warning to local pet owners.

A puppy named Demi was only 5-weeks-old when she was found and taken to Manitoba Underdogs Rescue in Canada.

When the rescue found this adorable husky-shepherd mix, she was in terrible condition. Manitoba Underdogs Rescue Executive Director, Jessica Hansen, told Global News, “I’ve never seen a puppy recover after being that cold. I thought she was going to pass away in our arms on the drive to Winnipeg. She was nearly dead. We snuggled her into the chest of one of our volunteers, wrapped her in heat packs, and put some corn syrup on her gums to try and increase her energy levels. She was just so tiny and helpless. It broke our hearts.”

Hansen said the puppy was so cold that the thermometer didn’t even register a temperature. Rescuers then made a 2-hour journey to get Demi to Pembina Veterinary Hospital where she was put in an incubator. Manitoba Underdogs Rescue wrote on their Facebook, “She made it to emergency. Her parvo test is NEGATIVE. She is, however, obviously hypothermic and hypoglycemic. Her body temperature doesn’t even register.”

While she seems to be improving, her odds are still only 50/50. They can start to improve as they warm, but crash hard after. The vet said the tissues can release toxins into her body,” the rescue continued.
