Paralyzed Dog Proves Everyone Wrong When He Walks Again

The incredible animal rescue organization, Animal Aid Unlimited of India, was called to save a street dog who was so hurt, he couldn’t even stand up.

When they arrived, hundreds of flies swarmed around the poor dog, but rescuers couldn’t see why. They wrapped him in a blanket, and when a rescuer went to pick up the dog, he was lifeless. It was then that they noticed a terrible wound on the dog’s butt!

When they took him back to Animal Aid, it was discovered the dog was paralyzed in his hind legs and he had a badly infected and enormous wound.

Once Animal Aid treated the dog’s wound, they comforted him and began physical therapy in hopes he would walk again

Two weeks later, he took his first steps on shaky legs. Rescuers named him Sidney, and over the next couple of weeks, his wound began to heal.

The damage to Sidney’s spine, however, was serious, and it was hard for him to walk without falling. But one day, Sidney started to run, and he hasn’t stopped since.

If it wasn’t for rescuers, who knows where Sidney would be, but thanks to them, he has his legs back and is ready to start his new life.

Family Gave Up Their 13-Year-Old Dog Because She Was Too Old

When we make a decision to own or adopt a pet, it is a commitment we are making for the rest of their life.

Sadly, in the case of dogs, they do not live very long lives, but it’s important we make the most of the time that we have with them.

When one family’s cocker spaniel was getting too old, instead of taking extra care of her in her last years of life, they surrendered her to the Carson Animal Care Center in Los Angeles, California.

What’s even worse, is the family dropped her off the day after Christmas on December 26. She spent her last Christmas with the only family she ever knew, and her owners removed her collar and lease, muttering “bad girl,” as they walked away.

Carson Care Animal Shelter is doing everything they can to care to Brandy, and help that she gets adopted, even in these later years of her life.

“My name is Brandy and I am described as a spayed female, brown and tan Cocker Spaniel. The shelter thinks I am about 13 years old. I have been at the shelter since Dec 26, 2016,” the shelter wrote. Sadly, this senior dog is not doing well in the shelter and her sadness has everyone worried.

People fail to understand that dogs are not disposable trash when they get old. It is irresponsible to become a pet parent in the first place if you don’t attend to take care of them for the rest of their life. Way too many senior dogs wind up in shelters

Hopefully, someone can adopt Brandy, so she has a home for New Years.

It’s a sad but all too real truth that over 3.9 million dogs will end up in animal shelters across the United States each year.

One-third of those dogs will be euthanized because there aren’t enough dog owners out there willing to adopt them. In an attempt to get more dogs adopted, an organization called The Humane Society of Utah took photos of shelter dogs to showcase their loving personalities

The organization hired professional photographer Guinnevere Shuster and put each dog in the photo booth to resulting in a heartwarming and hilarious photo series.

Mom And Baby Die During Labor And Miraculously Come Back To Life

The day new parents welcome their baby into the world is supposed to be one of the best days of their life, however, that day quickly turned into a nightmare when one Colorado mom and her baby both died during labor.

“I was waiting to hear a baby cry. I was waiting for it and I never did hear it,” said dad Mike Hermanstorfer who was crushed when he was told his wife Tracy and their baby Colton were both dead. “They were changing monitors at that point in time and in the middle of changing monitors, she stopped breathing.”

“She was dead. She had no heartbeat, no breathing. She was as gray as her sweatsuit, no signs of life,” said Stephanie Martin, director of fetal medicine at Memorial Hospital. Doctors fought to revive her, but after a few failed attempts, they decided to do an emergency c-section to save the baby. Tragically, baby Colton had no heartbeat either. “The next thing I know, a nurse walks out and tells me that they’re going to bring Tracy out, and this is my chance to say goodbye, and a gurney rolls out covered up with a white sheet.”

Seven years later, the family still doesn’t know why they experienced the miracle but are thankful every day that they did. “We have no answers on why it really happened and why I came back,” Tracy said. “Seven years later, they’re both still here and goofy as ever,” Mike added. “You look at him right now, you’d never know there was ever anything to sit back and remember that day…The only reason I do the interviews is because I want people out there that ever have second thoughts or ever have doubts about anything to realize that miracles do happen. Don’t ever give up.”

Dog Walks Away With Just A Scratch After Being Hit By A Train

Trains have no way of stopping when animals dart out onto the tracks in front of them, and unfortunately, witnessing animals being run over becomes a regular part of the job for train conductors.

So when a dog ran out onto the tracks in front of a Swedish train near a ski resort in western Sweden, the train conductors were convinced they’d find the dog’s body lying on the tracks later on. Yet when workers went back to take the body off the tracks, they were stunned to see the dog was alive.

The dog, who was named Freddie and had been rescued by a local woman, Berit Holmgren, just days before, was not only alive, but managed to walk away from what should have been a fatal accident with just a scratch on his head.

The train workers recognized Freddie since Holmgren had posted messages on a local Facebook group to find the missing dog, and drove him home about six days after he went missing. “Freddie is home again after almost six days wandering in Åre. He was run over by a train near Holiday Club last night but survived with a gash in his forehead. He was driven home by the railway staff and is sleeping right now in his bed, very tired,” Holmgren wrote in an update.

Rescuers Save Bear Kept Locked In Chains His Whole Life

Bears are one of the most dangerous and powerful animals in the wild, which is why Albanian rescuers were heartbroken when they found a bear tragically cowering in the dirt with heavy chains wrapped around his neck.

Although it is illegal to keep bears like Riku in dreadful conditions or trade them, he has spent his entire life chained up and being neglected by a monster who kept him alone in the backyard. Recently, the man decided he no longer wanted the bear and rescuers from Four Paws came to free the poor animal

When they arrived, Riku was frantically trying to bite at his chains and was clearly in distress, so the team tranquilized him before finally cutting him free from the chains that weighed him down for years.

After freeing him, the team carried Riku into a transport crate and brought him to his temporary new home in the Tirana Zoo until they can find him a permanent home in a bear sanctuary. “The large number of bears rescued this year shows that the Albanian environment ministry is now actively protecting Albania’s bears,” said Thomas Pietsch, a wild animal expert at Four Paws.

Woman Risked Her Life To Save Her Dog After A Crocodile Attacked

Most dog owners consider their four-legged companions to be members of the family, and when a crocodile attacked one Australian woman’s dog, she didn’t hesitate to do whatever she possibly could to save it.

“While some of her dogs were running around having fun, one of her smaller dogs was sitting on the edge of the causeway when she noticed a crocodile came up and took it down into the water,” Duty Superintendant James O’Brien explained. “She was extremely frightened and jumped in straight away, fearing for her dog’s safety.

“She was up to her knees and reached into the water and found her dog under the water. She hopped out straight away, went onto dry land where she tended to her dog, which was coughing up quite a lot of water and had some minor scratches on it,” O’Brien said after the incident, which occurred at a park in the Northern Territory behind a primary school and is near Charles Darwin University’s campus.

“Her actions are really brave — obviously she had no consideration for her own safety with a crocodile in the area, albeit a one-metre-long crocodile — but yeah, she had no thought for her own safety, only for her dog — so very brave but we wouldn’t recommend it to everybody who’s in that situation,” O’Brien said.

And while the 52-year-old woman and her dog were both shaken from the attack, she didn’t blame the wild animal for doing what is natural and told the police she’d be more careful and keep her dogs on leashes.

Lost Dog Travels Over 60 Miles To Return Home To His Family

A missing dog has undergone an incredible journey to be reunited with his owner after she left him with friends as she moved home.

The dog’s owner, Carole Fossett left her border collie Casey with a friend in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, when she moved. One day, the friend noticed Casey was gone, and after weeks of trying to find the lost dog, they had nearly given up hope.

In one last effort, Fossett and her friend launched a Facebook campaign to track Casey down, and miraculously, Fossett received three calls from across the country saying they spotted Casey. “We didn’t hear anything, and I thought, that’s it, he’s died. He’s been shot or run over,” Fossett told the Telegraph. “All we kept thinking was, where is he?”

Then, two months later, she got a call from Newark and someone had found Casey hiding in the bushes in Nottinghamshire. A scanning of his microchip confirmed it, and Fossett rushed to be reunited with her beloved dog.

“I just burst into tears. I can’t describe it. When your dog’s been missing for two months you just don’t believe you’re going to see him again,” Fossett said. He was sitting in the corner and me and my partner walked in and I said ‘Casey’ and his little tail started to wag. Then we walked into the pen and he absolutely went ballistic. He howled, he cried, he jumped all over,” she said.

Casey’s weight had dropped significantly and his fur was matted, but Fossett brought him to the groomers on Christmas Eve and she’s also helping him get the weight back on.

“Throughout the whole ordeal we’ve not had a snarl, a bite, a growl. And he’s so hungry. We have to feed him four times a day,” Fossett said. She is now urging other dog owners to microchip their dogs and keep their details up to date to stop them from losing their pets.

“I think it’s a fantastic story to make people aware of why you need to get your dog microchipped. If your dog goes missing you’ve got no chance,” she said.

Have you ever been reunited with your pet thanks to a microchip?

When 19-year-old Jessica Klein lost her dog last May, she was devastated.

Her loving German Shepherd-Rottweiler mix named Zoey was hit by a car at just one-and-a-half years old in her hometown of Dallas, Texas.

“She came with me to college and everything. My entire family loved her. She would come to the lake with us, and she slept with me every single night,” Jessica Klein, Zoey’s 19-year-old owner, told Buzzfeed News. “Zoey was always there. She went through so much stuff with me.”

To ease the pain of Zoey’s loss, Klein’s mother gave her a new puppy a few months later.

Quite possibly, one of the most adorable dogs ever, Jessica named her Riley. “After Zoey died, I really appreciated having a dog more,” Klein said. “They don’t care how you look, or if you screwed up at work. When you walk through the door, your dog always comes at you with that same excitement. I definitely missed that.”

Months before Zoey passed, she lost her collar somewhere in the woods of the backyard. “I really never thought anything of it- she lost her collar, and that was that,” Jessica said.

But, on Christmas morning, Riley brought the most incredible surprise into the family’s home- Zoey’s collar.

While they’re not sure how she found it, Jessica said she got “chills everywhere” and immediately brought it inside to show her sister and parents.

She posted about it on Twitter, and people have gotten really emotional over it, calling it a sign from doggy heaven.

Riley finding Zoey’s collar was “a special gift,” especially on Christmas. “It meant a lot,” Jessica said. “It’s like she’s keeping Zoey alive and not letting her be forgotten.”

Hot Firefighter Adopts Rescue Dog He Bonded With During A Calendar Fundraiser

Last month at a South Carolina fire training facility, 34-year-old Rob Tackett posed for the Charleston Animal Society’s 2017 firefighter calendar with an adorable German Shepherd puppy named Kimber.

“Her owner and his wife told me she wouldn’t go around any guys,” says Tackett, a firefighter with the Charleston Fire Department and “Mr. March” in the Charleston (South Carolina) Firefighter Calendar.  “And when I first met her she curled up in my arms, it was an instant connection. She felt safe with me.”

Tackett enjoyed the time he spent with Kimber doing the photo shoot, but he never dreamed that one day he’d be her owner.

At the time of the photo shoot, Kimber belonged to an elite Marine sniper named Steve Hall, who rescued her when he found her malnourished on the streets and brought her to the Charleston Animal Society.

Kimber was also hairless from severe mange and a bacterial skin infection, but as her hair grew back, they realized she was indeed a German Shepherd puppy.

Hall adopted Kimber last winter, and she became his constant companion and helped ease his PTSD symptoms. “He really needed that companionship,” Kristin Kifer of the Charleston Animal Society tells PEOPLE. He explained this in a video he made with the Charleston Animal Society.

During the calendar photo shoot, Hall and Tackett became good friends, but over the summer Hall fell ill. Hall asked Tackett to watch over Kimber during his hospital, and after a few weeks, with his health still shaky, Hall asked Tackett if he’d adopt her.

“He was heartbroken,” recalls Tackett. “He said, ‘My health is not where I want it to be. We can’t take care of Kimber. I don’t want her going anywhere else.’ ”

Credit: Charleston Animal Society
Credit: Charleston Animal Society

Tackett didn’t hesitate, and he became Kimber’s new owner. “I love that dog,” he says. “She is an incredibly special dog, I’ve never been around a dog like her. Just being around her makes everything easier.”

Now, 13-months-old, Kimber has been with Tackett since October, and she is a certified PTSD dog. Tackett hopes with more training, she’ll be able to visit other veterans and help with their PTSD.

“She’s skittish around other people at first,” says Tackett. “But when she gets comfortable she is the most loving dog in the world.”

If you would like to help other dogs like Kimber, please buy a copy of this hunky calendar, as all the proceeds go to the Charleston Animal Society’s medical fund, which saves thousands of abused, neglected and abandoned animals every year.

Rescued Baby Pigeon And Rabbit Tear Down Wall To Be Together

When the Kildare Animal Foundation Wildlife Unit Ireland rescued a baby rabbit and pigeon, they never thought they would become inseparable.

Both orphans, the rabbit, and pigeon came to the rescue’s care separately, although the rabbit arrived first in early August. The foundation wrote on Facebook that the rabbit was so young that his umbilical cord was still attached, and rescuers didn’t expect him to make it. The rabbit was weak and his condition was unstable but even worse, he suffered a seizure. Despite his rocky start to life, he continued to survive.

A week or two later, Kildare were alerted to a pressing situation. “We received a call from a lady who had found a pigeon’s nest on the ground,” Kildare wrote. “In it was a newly hatched chick and an unhatched egg. Sadly, the egg was cold and no longer viable, but the little chick appeared to be unharmed from the fall.”

The rescue took the young chick in but was faced with a dilemma. Both the baby rabbit and pigeon were in need of an incubator, but there was only one available at the time. Rescuers decided that both animals could share the incubator, although they put a divide between them to keep them separated.

“Both babies fed and settled down down well,” the foundation wrote. “Imagine our foster carer’s surprise when she next checked them and discovered that the divide had been overcome and these two had decided that life together was better than life apart.”

They named both animals appropriately, the rabbit was named Bunny, and the pigeon called Pidg, and both have been growing together, side by side.

The duo enjoys snuggling together, and Kildare posts many adorable videos of them on their Facebook“The comfort of two heartbeats together, of companionship, has crossed the species divide,” the rescue wrote. “They are simply two little babies, finding comfort and warmth in each other’s company.”

One day, both animals will be released back into the wild, but for now, they get to enjoy their unlikely friendship

An Atlanta musician named Ed Stroud says he owes his life to his rescue Maltese Poodle named Gracie.

The local musician, who has played with artists like Outkast and TLC says he was asleep around 3:30 am when Gracie woke him up. “She started licking my face, and then she started barking,” Stroud said. “I woke up, and my eyes got like this, and that’s when I saw the flames everywhere.”

Credit: WSBTV

Stroud was sleeping when his home on Baker Street caught fire on December 20, and by the time Gracie woke him up, the smoke and fire was so intense that he had to feel his way out of his home. “I was like, ‘Oh my God. I’m about to die if I don’t do something fast,'” he said.

Stroud and Gracie made their way to the kitchen, and they barely got out alive. When firefighters found him, he was unconscious near the door.

Stroud’s neighbors called 911, and he was rushed to the hospital with first and second-degree burns to his face, ears, and arms, but says he’s lucky that the burns on his hands were minor. “With me being a guitar player, I need my hands. This (is) my money maker right here,” he said.

Firefighters treated Gracie for smoke inhalation, and she is doing OK.

Gracie is staying with Stroud’s sister until he gets out of the hospital, and Stroud cannot wait to see her. “I love her to death. I really miss her. I can’t wait until I get a chance to see her again,” Stroud said.

While the fire is still under investigation, Stroud owes his life to his tiny dog, because if it wasn’t for her, who knows if they would have made it out of there.

The music community has even stepped up to help Stroud by putting on a benefit concert to raise money for everything that Stroud lost along with his home. “He’s lost a lot of his clothes. He’s lost equipment, housing, we’re gonna have to find that,” said talent manager Kathrine Williams, who is planning the benefit concert, which will be held Jan. 10 at Café 290 in Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Dion Cole was running late for work one day in September, but his tardiness turned out to be a miracle in disguise.

As Cole was driving to the office, he noticed a truck pull over, toss a dog out, and drove off. His wife Danielle posted about the incident on Facebook explaining what her husband saw and what the poor dog went through after he was “thrown away like a piece of trash.”

“Your dog chased after you and ran as fast as his little legs would let him until his legs gave out and he collapsed on the side of the road,” Danielle Cole wrote

“Later that evening we went to look for your dog, and he was right where you left him waiting for you to come back, but once again he ran scared for his life,” she continued.

“Saturday morning I took some treats and my dog in hopes that he would feel comfortable enough to come up to my dog.”

“I just couldn’t stop thinking about this poor little guy who was thrown from a car, lost, and confused, so I decided I would take a bowl of food to him and leave it where he had been hanging out,” Cole said.

When she arrived, she found a group of people trying to coax the frightened dog out of the woods, and eventually they were able to catch him.

As animal lovers, it’s hard to understand how or why anyone would want to see one of God’s innocent creatures suffer.

They say hurt people hurt others and that’s the only reason we can think of as to why anyone would ever want to hurt Ruger, a sweet street dog who was found in unimaginable condition.

The mixed breed stray was nearly destroyed by chemical burns and his horrifying physical condition was only surpassed by his heartbreaking demeanor, according to the heroes at Vet Ranch, a Texas-based non-profit animal rescue service started by veterinarian Dr. Matt Carriker.

In the video below, we see Dr. Matt’s colleague Dr. Karri help save the sad, scared, and broken street dog, who flinches at the thought of being touched.

The chemical burns on Ruger’s body run down to this poor animal’s flesh, from the top of his head to his pain-ridden paws. Thankfully, a family came along who was able to take in Ruger as a foster while he began the slow, painful recovery process.

However, his amazing progress after just a couple of weeks proves that a little go can go a very long way for a dog who has never been loved before.

For many pets, getting sick or getting a scratch is no big deal since their owners do whatever they can to help them heal and get them whatever treatment necessary.

But for stray animals living on the streets with no access to doctors or clean living conditions, a small cut or minor illness can quickly become deadly. So when a team of rescuers from Animal Aid Unlimted in India heard about a dog with a huge mass on his neck, they knew they had to act fast and get him treatment.

Once rescuers found Mango, they gave him some food and then rushed him back to get immediate treatment. After running some tests, the team discovered the mass that looked like it was a tumor was actually an infected abscess.

The vet got to work draining the abscess and left a small tube through the incision point so that any other fluids could drain out after surgery. Because the abscess was so large, Mango was left with loose skin around his neck and the team feared the infection would return and fill up again.

However, just 15 days after surgery, Mango is completely healed, and the infection, which would have eventually killed him if left much longer, never returned.

Vet Saves Jack Russell After His Mouth Was Glued Shut

Dogs love to chew on just about anything they can get in their mouths, but often their makeshift chew toys can be incredibly dangerous to their healthy.

This past week, a UK Jack Russel had been having fun ripping up and chewing on a brochure that came in the mail, however, when his saliva mixed with the glossy coating on the paper, it formed a strong glue that bonded his teeth together and made it impossible to open his mouth.

The 7-year-old dog named Finlay was rushed to the vet and immediately put under anesthesia, before being sent into surgery. For 45 minutes, surgery director Scott Carpenter used butter, warm water, and dental tools to remove the glue from his teeth and gently pry Finlay’s mouth open.

“This emergency was very unusual – nothing like this had ever happened at our practice before,” Carpenter said. “When his owners called us and said he couldn’t open his mouth, we expected it to be an injury from a stick – not something like this. As soon as Finlay came into the surgery we could see the glue in his teeth… It had stuck four of his bottom teeth together, cementing his jaw – there was no budging it at all,” Carpenter said.

“We had to be very careful during the procedure because we didn’t want to damage Finlay’s gums, teeth or jaw. When we levered off the glue with a dental scraper there was a piece of paper the size of a 20 pence piece still wrapped round his teeth which was what had set hard,” Carpenter said. “As soon as that came off, we brought him round and he was absolutely fine and is now completely recovered. But there were risks associated – any procedure where the animal is anesthetized has risks.”

Now the vet is warning other dog owners to be extra careful to keep mail away from dogs. “We want people to be aware so this doesn’t happen again, especially owners who know their dogs like to play with mail. This glue sets hard, so the sooner it can be dealt with the better. Finlay was pretty nonplussed but some dogs would get very distressed. The whole thing was definitely a very frightening experience for Finlay’s owners.”

Couple Spends $155,000 To Save Their Beloved Dog’s Life

Dog owners would do anything to keep their beloved companions healthy and happy, however, many are forced to say goodbye when they can no longer afford the costly treatments to keep their sick or injured pet alive.

Yet when one New York couple adopted a French Bulldog puppy named Jones in 2013, they immediately fell in love, began treating the dog like their child, and were prepared to do anything for him. “We were instantly obsessed. My parents even referred to him as their grandson,” Kate Stern said about the dog who was the ring bearer at her wedding with her now-husband Ben.

But when Jones was just six months old, he began vomiting violently and choked on his own vomit, which resulted in pneumonia. “We were so freaked out and had no idea what was wrong,” Kate said. Because his lungs were full of liquid, he had to be put on a ventilator, which cost $10,000. And even with just a 30 percent chance of survival, Kate and Ben didn’t hesitate to spend the money on their ‘son’.

“Your pet’s life shouldn’t have to be a financial decision,” said Ben, who spent every second he could by Jones’ side when he was moved to a pet hospital and spent five days there, which cost $69,000. “It still felt like a family member was in the ICU.”

Jones has since need surgeries to treat his chronic lung and esophagus issues and was put on a ventilator three more times. And while pet insurance has covered much of the $155,000 treatment costs, the Sterns still had to spend tens of thousands of their own money. “Our savings has taken a pretty big hit, but it’s worth it to keep Jones with us. He means everything to us,” Kate said.

Jones now has to be fed expensive prescription food and needs nine pills a day, which include his antibiotics, steroids, anxiety medicine, and allergy vaccines, but it’s all worth it to the couple as they watch Jones get better every day. “That’s the best part,” Kate said. “Seeing him get better.”

Man Carries Dog For 2 Days After He Was Attacked By A Crocodile

Dog owners would do anything for their beloved four-legged best friends, and when one Australian hunter was stranded in the wild with his injured dog, he refused to give up and instead walked for two days to find help.

Wild pig hunter Wayne Best had been hunting with his Arab greyhound mix named Choco along the Mitchell River in an extremely remote part of Northern Queensland when he suddenly saw a 20-foot crocodile spring out from the edge of the river and drag Choco under.

“It went for the dog and just got him by the arse end, picked him up and just shook him and then went under water,’’ Best said. “That was all that I saw of him. About two minutes later, (Choco) pops up again and I didn’t see the croc, and he swam back in (to land).”

“I had to take him back to camp, splinted him up and fixed a few holes in him, in his belly and stuff like that,” said Best, who then picked up his three-year-old dog and began hiking the long way to a road. Best walked for about 50 miles with Choco in his hands, managed to hitch a few rides, and was ultimately spotted by a friend who drove him the rest of the way to the vet.

“He’s a very lucky dog,’’ Dr. Ethan Maloney said. “The best thing Wayne did was bring the dog straight to the clinic. It’s going to be a very long recovery, but for the moment, the dog is alive.” And after facing a $2300 vet bill, Best was determined to raise the funds by working on a farm for extra money.

“He’s my mate. He’s like family to me,’’ Mr. Best said. “He’s my best friend to me in the whole world. Money means nothing to me. I just want him better. I walked a long way for him, but I would have walked a million and one miles for him if need be.”
