Mom’s Moving Photo Shows Why You Should Never Fire Off A Gun In Celebration

[Dustin Compton]

Have you ever fired off a gun in celebration for an event like New Years or the 4th of July?

I’m originally from a densely populated part of New Jersey, so firing off a gun is pretty frowned upon by the neighbors, but for some families, this is common practice.

Unfortunately, for one family, it ended with a trip to the hospital and a gunshot wound. Cameron Eli Compton was being put into his car-seat by his mother, after her and her husband waited for the celebratory gunshots and fireworks had died down on New Year’s Eve.

But then the Mama heard a pop too close to her ear and she knew exactly what the sound was. He son had been hit in the shoulder by a wayward bullet that went right through his shoulder.

[Dustin Compton]
Doctors say had the bullet been a few inches over, the shot could’ve pierced Cameron’s vitals, resulting in a fatal wound. Thankfully, the bullet was removed from Cameron’s arm and he’s expected to make a full recovery from his injury.

But please don’t go firing off a gun in celebration. Incidents like these are more common than you think and not all end with just a short trip to the hospital. So please let friends and family know about this story and SHARE on social media.

Staying home with a sick kid is no fun, but staying in the hospital with a serious respiratory infection is even less fun.

Mom Laura Correada-Silva is pleading with parents to leave their sick kids at home rather than run the risk of infecting others.

That’s what happened to her 3-year-old Chloe when her brother took his sick daughter to a Christmas party with the family.

“My brother presented her like, ‘Oh she has a lung infection but she shouldn’t be contagious,’” Laura said. Turns out those were the famous last words. Chloe in a ICU bed, being treated for respiratory syncytial virus infection, more commonly known as RSV.

“Please. If your child has a cold, or a flu, or an upper respiratory infection, please keep them home and take care of them,” Laura wrote on Imgur where she originally posted the photos, though they have since been removed.

Fortunately, Chloe is making a strong comeback and is expected to be released from the hospital soon. Sure, no parent likes missing out on the party because they need to stay home with their sick kids, but unless you know for certain your child isn’t contagious, please leave them home to heal properly.

Parents, do you have a thought on this subject? Tell us in the comments and please SHARE with friends and family!

A baby orangutan born just before Christmas made her debut on Tuesday at the Brookfield Zoo.

The female orangutan is only 2-weeks-old and while she has not yet been named, she can be seen with her mother Sophia at the Tropic World: Asia Habitat.

The newborn has been bonding behind the scenes with her mother and is being monitored by animal care staff since her birth on December 20. She is Sophia’s sixth child, and her father Ben’s fourth child, according to a release from the west suburban zoo.

The adorable baby has been seen interacting with her 8-year-old sister Kekasih, and her 3-year-old adopted brother Kecil, who is very curious about the newborn.

Being that the Bornean orangutan population has declined by more than 60% between 1950 and 2010, according to the International Union for Conversation of Nature, this birth was significant for the zoo.

“The birth is significant to the zoo population, but hopefully it will also help raise awareness about the threats facing orangutans in the wild,” said Bill Zeigler, the Chicago Zoological Society’s senior vice president of animal programs.

Our hearts go out to the poor burglar who thought he could take advantage of Rebbie Roberson or Texarkana, Texas.

The thug got more than he bargained for when he broke into Roberson’s home while she watched television. While it’s hard to feel bad for a crook, we can’t help but chuckle at the Granny who was waiting for him.

[Fox 17]
[Fox 17]
“I reached over there and grabbed this gun. And when I swerved around, I pointed it at him, and he ran,” Roberson told Fox 17 who came by after to interview her about the surprising incident.

Roberson then popped off a few rounds from the pistol, though she’s unsure as to whether or not she hit him. She did, however, leave a few bullet holes in her home.

[Fox 17]
[Fox 17]
The Bowie County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jeff Neal says that although things could’ve turned out “worse for both individuals, both the victim and the suspect” that Roberson was within her rights to use her firearm to defend herself in her home against an invader.

Granny simply said, “I tried to kill him. Anybody break in on me, I’m going to kill them. He’s going to kill me or I’m going to kill him.”

We commend this tough Grandma. What do you make of Roberson and the punch she packs? Tell us in the comments and please SHARE with friends and family.

A dog’s family is their entire world, and they’d do absolutely anything and sacrifice anything for them. Unfortunately, however, we live in a cruel world, and that feeling isn’t always mutual…

So when the owners of a sweet dog abandoned him on the side of a highway in a dilapidated building, he couldn’t figure out what he did to make his family not want him, but decided to stay exactly where they left him in case they came back for him.

Days passed, yet the family never returned. As the poor dog stood in the crumbling doorway, a driver spotted the abandoned dog and contacted the Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue. Mike Diesel, the rescue’s founder, immediately headed over to the site and found the dog in the exact same spot.

“He was literally on top of the [highway] ramp, which is only about 20 feet to the right of the building, hence why it was so important to get him out of there,” Diesel said. For about 15 minutes, Diesel worked on getting the scared dog to trust him by giving him plenty of treats. “He could smell my scent on [the treats] … so when I approached he was happier. It did take about 15 minutes just to get him to walk out of there and to my truck. He was leery.” The dog, who was later named Diesel after his rescuer, was scared but he was cold and hungry and relieved to get into the warm truck. “Not easygoing, but willing to trust a soft voice with no harmful tone to it,” Diesel said about the dog.

Diesel was immediately brought to the vet to get a checkup, and since he didn’t have a microchip and no one has come forward to claim him, the rescue team is determined to find him a forever home that will never abandon him once he is done being treated by the vet.

Dog Survives Fight With Porcupine That Left Her Covered In Quills

Dogs greet new people and animals by giving them a good sniff to get their scent, however, three Canadian dogs learned the hard way that not everyone enjoys their greeting.

While Dennis Mazur’s dogs Mahalo, Nestah, and Soljah were out for a walk one afternoon near their home, nine-year-old Sojah discovered a porcupine in an old barn. Soljah started sniffing the harmless looking animal and ended up with a few quills shot into his chin.

Soljah let out a cry, and suddenly the other two dogs were right by his side ready to fight off the porcupine. “The dogs went into protect-the-older brother mode, and it went bad,” Mazur said. Nestah ended up with more than 1,000 quills in his face and spine, and Mahalo pounced on the scared porcupine and ended up with even more quills in her face and chest. A few of which ended up piercing her heart and lungs.

Mazur rushed his beloved dogs to the vet, and each thankfully began to recover after getting treatment from the vet. “The doctor said it’s a miracle . . . if all things go according to plan they should make a full recovery,” said Mike Gerrand, Mazur’s friend who ended up raising over $15,000 on GoFundMe to pay for the vet bills that quickly rose above $10,000.

Let this serve as a warning: always secure your dog and keep the windows rolled up high enough to keep the dog in the car.

A man with a camera on his dashboard happened to catch a shocking and near-deadly sight on the road ahead. A frisky dog had his head out the window lapping up all the air and excitement when he got a little carried away and made a jump that could have cost him his life.

[Mike Kannely via Rumble]
[Mike Kannely via Rumble]
The dog jumped from the vehicle and rolled a little before coming to a full stop, totally fine and still frisky. The surrounding drivers, however, had more than a fright when they saw the dog roll on the road dow a speeding highway.

All immediately slammed on the brakes and caught their breath over what had just happened. Meanwhile, the dog’s owner jumped out and picked up the pooch who didn’t even seem phased.

But let this serve as a warning to dog owners. No matter how much your dog loves to stick his or her head out the window, they are still subject to tragedy if they get carried away.

Babies have incredibly delicate and sensitive skin, which is why it’s always a good idea to protect their skin with sunscreen while spending time outdoors.

So when Australian mom Jessie Swan was spending some time with her children outdoors, she decided to put sunscreen on her three-month-old son even though he wasn’t actually in the sun. “He has not been in the sun, he was simply outdoors so I put screen on him just in case,” Swan wrote on Facebook.

Shortly after, Swan noticed her baby boy’s skin looked red and irritated even though he wasn’t in the sun. When it began to get worse, she rushed him to the hospital, where he was immediately admitted so doctors could treat and keep an eye on the reaction.

“Do not buy this sunscreen,” the furious mother wrote in a post to Cancer Council Australia to warn other parents. “We’ve been in hospital for 3 days 2 nights so far trying to treat this horrible rash/burn caused by your 50+Peppa pig sunscreen… Please explain how your product could possibly do this?!”

The scathing post quickly gained attention with almost 9,000 shares and 4,000 comments, many of which were from other parents sharing similar experiences with the product. The company has since reached out privately to the concerned mom and took to their Facebook to explain that their products are perfectly safe. “We would like to reassure everyone that our Cancer Council Kids sunscreen has been formulated to be as suitable for delicate skin as possible,” a spokesperson said. “Please also be reassured that every product we release onto the market is approved by the TGA and meets very strict regulatory and quality standards.”

How would you react if your child had to be hospitalized from using sunscreen? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

On Wednesday morning, the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters received a call about a large horse stuck in a mud pit at a residence on McInnis Lane in Aloha, Oregon.

Upon their arrival, crews found the 1,800-pound Clydesdale horse named Windsor tracked stuck in approximately two feet of mud on his side. Windsor was suffering from hypothermia due to the freezing temperatures and he was unable to gather enough energy to get out of the pit on his own.

Firefighters used a system of pulleys and ropes to move the struggling horse onto solid ground and finally they got him out. Heating equipment from another rescue crew was brought in to help warm Windsor up while local veterinarians assisted checking Windsor for any other health issues.

After about 45 minutes, Windsor’s temperature came back to normal numbers and with some assistance, he was able to get back on his feet again. The rescue wound up taking four hours to complete, and Windsor is now doing well and will fully recover from the incident.

Apparently, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue has met Windsor before as he is a part of the McInnis Classic Clydesdale team which pulls Forest Grove Fire Department’s 1907 steam engine in the annual holiday parade.

We’ve seen our fair share of animal rescues doing creative things to help get their shelter dogs adopted, but what about shelter cats?

One animal shelter- Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters, made a hilarious video to encourage people to adopt a cat. The rescue, which is an organization and group of no-kill shelters in Atlanta, Georgia created a “Kitty Kommercial” to attempt to sell you a cat.

The video shows hilarious Paul Preston, an Atlantan resident trying to sell you a car like a car salesman.

He highlights that all of the cats are self-cleaning, and the video even features a Sarah McLachlan cover at the tail end, which spoofs her British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ads.

A representative from Furkids explained to The Huffington Post that Paul isn’t a comedian, instead, a local man who works for a rental property management company. It was his sister, Helen, who volunteers at Furkids, that came up with the idea for the spoof.

We think after this video that Paul will be receiving lots of calls from Hollywood because he is seriously funny.

Apparently, the entire video was completely improvised at one of Firkins’ facilities and shot in about 30 minutes.

Furkids would not release how much it cost to produce this video, but they hinted it was comparable to “a couple cans of cat food the cat stars.”

Clearly, the shelter has a sense of humor…

For soldiers returning home around the holidays, getting to see beloved family and friends is the best gift ever. However, one soldier couldn’t help but notice a very import member of her family was missing when she arrived home.

When Army Private First Class Katelyn Gallagher returned home to Ohio last month for the holidays, she couldn’t wait to be reunited with her dog Buck, who she had left in a good friend’s care. “When I left in May for training, I left him with a family friend, Angelo Sullo, who told me he would care for Buck,” Gallagher said. “I was so excited to get home and get him.”

Yet when she got home, she was heartbroken to find out that Buck was gone. Apparently, while she was away, Sullo could no longer care for the dog and gave him away. “He wouldn’t give me any other information so I don’t know who has him,” Gallagher said. “I am not upset with the people who may have him because I am sure they don’t know. But I really want him back.

“He is very, very, sweet,” Gallagher said about her 5-year-old dog. “I got him when he was 9 months old. He is like my son, he is my best friend. I really want him back. This has been very difficult for me.”

Now, Gallagher is desperately looking for any clues about where Buck went and has filed a report with Cleveland police against Sullo. While Gallagher had to return back to her base, she is hoping someone who knows what happened to Buck will see one of the signs she posted around the area and reach out to police so she can get him back.

Watch the entire video below to see how this soldier reacted when she returned and found out her dog was given away.

The curious cat was hunting a bird when he jumped down onto a few lives wires and ended up with some very serious injuries the took his tail and front two legs away from him. Fortunately, Able’s keeper, 49-year-old Walai Sriboonvorakul, stepped in and made the cat his own. Often, disabled cats have sad, short lives if they are left too long fending for themselves on the streets of Bangkok.

“We called him ‘Able’ because he can do everything just like the other animals,” Able’s owner said about the inspiring story. Able walks like a funny kangaroo, hopping along on hind legs, as he does everything from climbing stairs, to chasing other cats, to reaching impressive heights with his sturdy hind legs. Able has a sibling named Fin Fin who can’t use her hind legs. The two cats with opposite leg problems complete each other and are simply inseparable.

Shocking Ultrasound Shows Baby’s Feet Sticking Out Of Mom’s Uterus In Rare Rupture

Finding out you’re having a baby is one of the most exciting things that can happen in a person’s lifetime, but with that joy also comes a lot of anxiety and worrying about the many, many things that could happen during those nine months in the womb.

Most doctors will tell a first-time parent not to worry too much unless they find cause for concern, but every so often a pregnancy story like this one will surface and completely shock us.

In the following photo, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2016, we see a 33-year-old mother who went in for a seemingly routine ultrasound appointment and stunned doctors by what was going on inside her. The sonogram image below, which was posted on Twitter by Live Science, reveals that the mom-to-be had a 1-inch tear in her uterus, where the baby’s legs appeared to be sticking out in the amniotic fluid-filled sac.

[Live Science]
[Live Science]
Dr. Pierre-Emmanuel Bouet, OB/GYN at France’s Angers University Hospital and lead author of the report told Live Science the condition he had never encountered such an “extremely rare” pregnancy and that only 26 cases reported. However, since it was this mother’s sixth pregnancy, with her five previous children being born via C-section, she was at greater risk for such a tear.

Although doctors warned the parents that the pregnancy was dangerous and should be preceded with caution, the mother went on to deliver a healthy, albeit at 3 pounds, underweight baby via C-section. Live Science reported that six months later the doctors reported both mom and baby were healing nicely.

Time after time, you’ll see amazing stories about canine companions going above and beyond the call of duty to help humans.

Man’s Best Friend definitely got his nickname for good reason and that’s why it’s so heartbreaking when people can’t treat dogs with such love, dignity, and respect. A sad example of this comes all the way from Iran, where heroes came to the rescue of a dog on the brink of death.

Thankfully, the amazing organization Sezar Sanctuary was able to rescue the dog just in time. The poor thing had been tied up with rope around his neck and was nearly strangled to death. The rope cut off the circulation of blood and oxygen to his brain and his head became filled with fluid, as his body suffered from severe infections.

He was abandoned and alone on the streets, but when the heroes arrived to finally help him, they refused to give up on him and named him Delavar, which is the perfect name because it means courageous in Persian.

Although it wasn’t easy and took a very long time, Delavar eventually started to recover from the traumatic near-death experience and began to thrive. The three videos below show the progression of this brave dog’s journey back to health and to his forever home.

Rescuers Cut Off Pounds Of Matted Fur From Neglected Dog

When rescuers spotted a small animal wandering the streets of a UK city, they couldn’t tell what kind of animal it was since it was covered in dirty, matted fur.

They could, however, easily see that the poor animal had been neglected for far too long. The animal’s rescuer brought him into a kennel, who immediately called the RSPCA when they laid eye on the poor creature, who was really a small Shih Tzu that was practically blind with all the fur covering his face.

“Poor Kain was in such a state when he was found by a member of public – he has clearly not been cared for in some time,” RSPCA inspector Sally Kearns said about the dog they named Kain. “His fur was extremely matted. He was taken to a stay dog kennel and they immediately called us. We went and took some photos and then clipped his hair.”

“Clipping dogs isn’t just a cosmetic thing – it’s important because long, dirty hair can cause skin problems and hide growths. It also causes problems if dirty hair is weighing them down. Cases like this are fairly regularly, sadly, and sometimes the matted hair can affect their movement and make it very hard for them to walk,” Kearns said.
Thankfully, the team didn’t find any growths or infections once the overgrown hair was cut off, and he quickly was back to full health. But now the team is trying to find who is responsible for Kain’s neglect. “We are concerned about where he came from and why he was so badly neglected, and also the possibility that there may be other animals where he came from, who may also be neglected. As Kain wasn’t microchipped, we don’t know where he came from so we are urging anyone who knows anything about him to contact us,” Kearns said.

Surviving the winter months can be extremely difficult for animals, but survival becomes nearly impossible for weaker newborns who are born into such harsh conditions.

So when a sheep gave birth to twin lambs on one of the coldest nights of the season, the weaker of the two brothers, who weighed less than a pound, quickly started dying. “The mother [sheep] had twins – the big one was standing up and demanding all the attention,” sheep farmer Suzanna Crampton said.

“She had managed to clean off Teeny Tiny but by the time I discovered him he was hypothermic. Monday night was bitterly cold, when I reached him, the inside of his mouth was freezing cold and I thought the worst,” Crampton said.

Crampton refused to give up on the weak newborn and brought him inside her home, wrapped him in warms blankets, and placed him inside her large, old oven. “The lower left-hand section of the Aga is like a hot box. I put him inside and he was resuscitated,” she said.

“I weighed his bigger brother and he’s 5lb. Teeny Tiny is barely 1lb,” she said. “We just hope that he lives, it’s still dicey. He is not on his legs yet but we hope that he stands. I have taken him out of the Aga and I have him wrapped up in a wool blanket now with a heat lamp.”

Ohio Woman Does CPR To Bring Her Choking Dog Back To Life

Almost everyone knows what needs to be done when a person is choking, yet very few know what to do if the same is happening to a dog or cat.

Like people, a choking animal’s blocked airway needs to be cleared and CPR must be done as soon as possible. “It is important. Just as it is in people, you have a couple or three minutes that you have before there’s significant brain damage, and then there’s death,” veterinarian John Shuler said. “You have to know how to do that at home.”

Luckily, when one 6-year-old miniature Pinscher named Luke started choking on a dog treat, his owner actually knew what to do and managed to bring him back to life. “I looked over in his bed and he looked weird,” said owner Emily Wicker. “I said his name and he didn’t do anything, so I went over to him and he wasn’t breathing.”

Wicker reached inside Luke’s mouth and pulled out a dog treat that was lodged in his throat, and found his heartbeat. “The hardest thing is finding your animal’s pulse,” Wicker said. “He had a really shallow heart rate, so I knew it wouldn’t take long to bring him back to consciousness.” Wicker then started mouth to mouth resuscitation and CPR. “It just kicked in,” said Wicker, who had previously learned how to perform animal CPR. “I didn’t think about anything — I just started doing it.”

“The first round I did do some compression, but the second round I didn’t have to,” Wicker said. “He started coughing just how a human would, because his airway was blocked, and he was fine.” When Shuler later heard about what Wicker did to save Luke, he was stunned she actually knew what to do. “Because not a lot of people know what to do, or they may not be present when the pet actually chokes, most of the ones I hear of are deaths,” Shuler said.

“I wish more people would show interest so that I can teach them how to do this during their yearly exam,” Shuler said. “We just don’t see anything with pets that organized that gives us the opportunity to teach people.”

Kitten Recovers After Being Found Frozen To Blankets

Many people think it’s fine to leave a cat or dog outside in the middle of winter since they have a thick layer of fur to keep them warm.

However, that layer of fur can only do so much, which is why animal shelters like the Humane Society of Utah (HSU) and rescue teams around the country are warning owners to bring pets inside since their fur can’t do much to protect them when the temperature dips below freezing.

“With a Winter Storm Warning in effect throughout most of northern Utah, we wanted to remind everyone to bring their pets inside or provide them adequate shelter,” the HSU wrote in a warning on their Facebook after Utah woman Gabriel Zarate brought in a kitten frozen to a blanket.

“It was very skinny, it had gone without food for a while, frozen to the blanket,” DeAnn Shepherd, Director of Marketing and Communications for HSU, said about the 8-10-week-old kitten. “Its ears had a little frostbite on it. So it took some time for us to be able to re-warm the animal.”

Luckily, the kitten quickly started to recover and the team hopes to find her a forever home once she is finished with treatment.  “Our foster staff named her Elsa because she loves to sing to get people over to her kennel. If you are caring for animals out in the community, PLEASE avoid leaving out blankets which absorb water and then freeze. Straw is a much better alternative as it does not absorb water and acts as an excellent insulator.”

Toronto Animal Services needs your help to find out more about an abused poodle that was found wandering around a Scarborough neighborhood in Toronto on Christmas Eve.

A good samaritan found “Frankie,” the small, male apricot poodle who is about one or two years old, in the residential area of Rouge River Drive and Jaguar Street, not far from the Toronto Zoo. The rescuer was heartbroken to see the poodle all alone with an elastic band tied around his nose, so she took him to a veterinary emergency clinic- Toronto Animal Services.

The rescue wrote on their FacebookHe was outside, by himself, with an elastic band around his nose. Frankie was obviously distressed and very thin due to chronic malnutrition. The elastic had caused severe injury to Frankie’s nose, nose and to the tissue inside his mouth.”

At the clinic, Frankie was treated for a few days and is now continuing his recovery in a foster home. “He will likely require surgery to fix the tissue around his muzzle, but he is otherwise recovering and eating well,” Toronto Animal Services said.

“Despite the horrible abuse that Frankie has sustained, he presents as a happy, pleasant, trusting dog … heartbreakingly typical of dogs in his situation,” they continued.

Since posting the photo of Frankie, people have commented on both the rescue’s Facebook and Instagram offering to adopt the sweet poodle, and Toronto Animal Services said, “Frankie is currently in foster but we’ll post him when he’s ready to go up for adoption. Check back with us and thanks again.”

If anyone has any information about the evil person who did this to Frankie, please contact Toronto Animal Services at 416-338-7297. To donate towards Frankie’s care, click here.

Pit Bull Lived In Blankets Because She Desperately Wanted Her Own Home

Los Angeles-based non-profit animal rescue, Hope For Paws, received a call about a sick and possibly injuring pit bull living alone in an industrial area in California.

Good samaritans set up a makeshift for the dog and even fed her, however, the dog needed to get off the streets asap.

Hope for Paws founder, Eldad Hagar, and volunteer Lisa Chiarelli arrived at the scene to find the sick pit bull lying on blankets in its makeshift home. She was sweet and docile and looked very happy to have company.

The dog even accepted a cheeseburger Chiarelli offered, and seeing how thin she was, she could certainly use the food.

Soon rescuers noticed that the dog made no attempt to stand up, and it was then they noticed a cut on the inside of one of her legs. The poor dog was just wasting away among blankets and trash and was too sick to even walk.

Since the pit bull had such a gentle demeanor, it was easy for them to get a leash on her quickly, and Chiarelli picked her up to take her to get some much needed medical care. Not once did she made any attempt to fight or flee away from the help that was being offered to her.

Chiarelli decided to name the dog Penelope, and after a nice bath and medical treatment for her wounds, she was on her way to a better life. Penelope has since been adopted, but Hope For Paws shared this important message:

“Pets are not items that can be thrown away or exchanged for younger models. Animals are sentient beings who feel pain, love, joy, mourning, and loss. These valuable creatures help us whether it is assisting the blind or finding people under the rubble from an earthquake. They help us in times of war and during human catastrophes…”

“We want to help both humans and animals alike live harmonious and fulfilling lives together,” they continued.
