Doctors Free 3-Year-Old From Aggressive 5-Pound Facial Tumor

A parent will do anything to get the help their sick child needs and when one Brazilian mother ran out of options to save her 3-year-old suffering from a massive facial tumor, she decided to reach out on Facebook as a last resort for a miracle.

Three-year-old Melyssa Delgado Braga from Sao Paulo developed a rare facial tumor called a myxoma, and while it’s not cancerous, it was slowly killing her because it had grown so big that it made eating and breathing difficult. Luckily, Dr. Celso Palmieri Jr., assistant professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, saw mom Caroline’s post and knew he had to help.

“As I was reading more about her story, I realized our department could probably help her, and particularly Dr. Ghali and his department. I’ve seen him helping people so many times, so I took a screenshot of the child, and I texted it to him,” Palmieri said of his colleague, Dr. G.E. Ghali.

Ghali thought he could help, but before reaching out, he made sure the family would have a safe and affordable way to stay in the United States. He reached out to the Willis-Knighton Health System, a nonprofit organization that has helped host international patients with rare conditions, and they agreed to help. Once housing was secured and officials agreed to underwrite the cost of the hospital stay, Ghali reached out and told Caroline the good news.

“This tumor has pretty much eaten away her entire jaw from one side to the other and has displaced her tongue. (She’s) really unable to eat pretty well. She was on her way to be a pretty malnourished child,” Ghali said. Finally, the day came for surgery, and Ghali and his team were able to successfully remove the tumor. “When we were able to remove this tumor, the tumor weighed over 5 pounds on a child that probably doesn’t weigh more than 25 pounds herself, total weight,” he said. “I am grateful for everything the doctors here have been able to do for my daughter and in only a short month,” the girl’s father said.

Melyssa will still need surgery to replace the titanium jaw with bone when she’s older, but the family is just thrilled the tumor is gone and she has regained use of her tongue. “It feels very good,” Melyssa told Palmieri.

Vet Gives Dog Vodka To Save Her After She Drank Antifreeze

Dogs will chew on anything they can get their paws on, which is why it’s so important that owners are extremely careful with what they leave around the house.

Last week, a 10-month-old Samoyed puppy named Mischa found a plastic bottle full of antifreeze while her humans were out and started chewing at the plastic thinking it was the perfect chew toy. She quickly broke through the thin plastic and started drinking the liquid that spilled out.

Thankfully, owner Carole Wigglesworth came home shortly after and immediately called the vet when she realized what her puppy was chewing on. “We came home from a day out and found her chewing a bottle of antifreeze in the hallway,” she said. “It was just terrifying, but the outcome could have been a lot worse. We called the vet, and they told us to bring her immediately. We were all distraught at the thought of losing her.”

Carole rushed Mischa to Vets4Pets, and when she arrived, they immediately put her on a drip of vodka to flush her system. “Mischa was very lucky her owners realized what she had done as soon as they saw her with the bottle,” vet Jenny Millington said. “Antifreeze contains ethylene glycol which is toxic for animals and if not treated within a few hours can cause complete kidney failure.”

“It’s one of the most dangerous poisons that we deal with. With the treatment, first, we try to make the animal sick to get rid of any toxin. She also had fluids to flush out her kidneys and we treated her with vodka in a drip because the ethanol in it stops the ethylene glycol doing any further damage. She probably had 100ml of vodka administered very carefully but it’s not something I would suggest people do at home.”

“We were surprised to hear how she’d be treated but all we were concerned about was that she was going to be OK,” Carole said. “She spent five days on a vodka drip and another with saline in to keep her hydrated, and we were allowed to go to see her. She was stumbling around all over the place with all the alcohol but we knew she was in safe hands and that was part of her getting better.”

After a week at the vet, Mischa was allowed to go home, and now her owners are sharing their story to warn other animal owners to be more careful about leaving potentially dangerous items around the house. “Now we are so vigilant and don’t leave anything around that she could chew other than her toys. We are so thankful to have her with us.”

Did you know vodka could help save a dog’s life if they’ve ingested antifreeze? Let us know in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Severely Premature Baby Born At 24 Weeks Makes Full Recovery

One UK woman never thought she’d be a mother since she had been told her entire life that there were problems with her ovaries, making it impossible to conceive.

But at 37 years old, Victoria Bradley and her partner Paul Curran, 46, found out they were expecting their first miracle baby. The first few months of the pregnancy were completely normal, but right after they reached 24 weeks, Victoria started experiencing stomach and back problems.

To be safe, Victoria went to the hospital and was admitted for testing. The next morning, just two days after the cut-off for getting an abortion, doctors told her she was in labor, and she gave birth to her small daughter shortly after. It took baby Francesca 11 minutes to take her first breath, but she was alive. If she had born just a few days earlier, the doctors wouldn’t have even tried to save her, since babies born before 24 weeks aren’t deemed ‘viable’ because their survival rates are so low.

“I didn’t think she would be here. It’s scary to think if she had been just two days earlier they wouldn’t have worked to save her,” Victoria said. Baby Francesca was immediately put on life support, but at just one 1lb 6oz, no one thought she’d survive. “I thought she still looked like a fetus. Her skin was see-through, and she didn’t have eyelashes or eyebrows. Her eyes weren’t open yet,” Victoria said about her baby, whose feet were the size of pennies. “She was just tiny, and so poorly. We were told it was hour by hour with her, and they didn’t think she would survive. Her blood was full of infections.”

Babies born after 24 weeks still face plenty of life-threatening conditions, and in the weeks after her birth, Francesca underwent 15 blood transfusions, had laser eye surgery to keep her from going blind, fought off meningitis, sepsis, two cases of collapsed lungs, and kidney problems.

Despite everything, baby Francesca kept getting stronger and stunned doctors when she came off her incubator in just eight weeks. And 17 weeks after birth, the miracle baby was strong enough to go home without needing any medication, wires, or oxygen. “It’s just great to finally have her home.”

Rescuers Teach Dog Saved From Meat Farm How To Lie Down

When animal rescuers save animals from abuse or neglect, they often find clues to their painful past in the physical and emotional scars left behind.

Last week, 200 dogs destined to be slaughtered were rescued from a South Korean dog meat farm and flown to Humane Society animal shelters in the US, Canada, and the UK. The Human Society of Tampa Bay took 14 of those dogs in, and while they knew these animals had been horribly abused and neglected, they had no idea how bad it was until they saw one of the dogs sleeping.

Photo by Humane Society of Tampa Bay

When the dogs arrived at the shelter, each dog received their own fluffy bed to sleep on, however, when an exhausted 3-year-old Korean Jindo named Harriet went to go to sleep, rescuers were heartbroken to see her trying to sleep standing up.

Photo by Humane Society of Tampa Bay

Before being flown across the world, Harriet was kept locked up in a tiny cage stuffed with other dogs and was forced to sleep standing up. So when she got her first bed, she had no idea what to do with it. “Even though our Korean pups are doing well and beginning to adjust, they are still suffering from the horror they endured. This video shows Harriet falling asleep standing up because she doesn’t understand that she can use the bed provided for her,” rescuers wrote.

Photo by Humane Society of Tampa Bay

One of the volunteers then spent the entire day gently teaching Harriet how to lie down for the first time and get comfortable. “These dogs have been on an arduous journey and still have a long way to go, but we are hopeful that wagging tails and snuggly beds will become their norm.”

Watch the entire video below to see the heartbreaking moment rescuers realize Harriet didn’t know how to lie down to go to sleep.

Third Grader Has 3 Teeth Pulled Without School Calling His Mom

It’s bad enough having your child come home from school with any type of accidental injury. Can you imagine them coming home in tears because of a procedure done without your knowledge?

That’s what Shanda Flemming told WJZ happened this January when her nine-year-old Michael came home from school with three fewer teeth than he left with that morning. However, the boy’s teeth didn’t fall out in class or get knocked out by another student. Instead, they were pulled out during a routine cleaning with the school’s dental program.
His mother was not happy.

“I’m angry about this,” Shanda Flemming told WJZ. I don’t think that it should have happened like that,” says Flemming.

Although Baltimore City Schools claims Michael’s mother signed a permission slip, Flemming says she thought her son was just going to receive a cleaning, not come home in tears and terrible pain from a tooth extraction.

[WJZ]
“I just don’t understand how a school or a company can take it in their hands to do something like this to a child,” said Shanda Flemming. To make matters even worse, the procedure caused Michael to miss the bus, too. “He walked home alone after having three teeth extracted from his mouth. He could have fell out or anything,” says Flemming.

Now, this mom rightfully wants answers. Why wasn’t she called about her son’s dental problem before they pulled his teeth? And why did they let a third grader walk home by himself… and without any medication?!

Check out this story and please SHARE if you’re as outraged as we are!

Biker Stops Traffic To Rescue Tiny Kitten Caught In The Road

Bikers tend to get a bad reputation for being the rough and tough, law-evading kind of folks you don’t want to mess with. However, the following story proves that many times men and women in motorcycle gangs are more like big teddy bears then what you might see on Sons of Anarchy.

As you can see in this incredibly powerful dash cam video of a motorcyclist helping a suicidal woman, bikers often have a lot more compassion than other drivers on the road.

In the following clip, we see this once again when a brave biker was well aware of his surroundings and noticed a tiny kitten in need of help in the middle of a busy intersection. The tiny, terrified animal can barely be seen dodging traffic in the clip below as our hero on motorcycle waves at cars to slow down so he can save the newborn cat.

The woman on the bike then gets off and rescues the little one.

“I’m going to take her,” says the biker. “You’re ok now sweetie,” she says to the tiny kitten. According to Michigan’s FOX 17, she named the kitten Skidmark, and took her in. See Skidmark now, all safe and sound.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the tiny kitten would have caused a bad accident or gotten himself hurt or killed if the brave biker wasn’t around to save the day.

In an incredible video, a family’s pet dogs go above and beyond to protect their owners from a deadly cobra.

The four dogs circle the 8.2ft long venomous snake after it slithered into their garden in Phitsanoluk, Thailand.

Nipping at the cobra with their teeth, you hear a woman yelling out instructions to the dogs in the background, and commanding her dogs to keep the cobra away from the snake

While luckily, none of the four dogs were hurt, this was a very dangerous situation for everyone involved.

This type of deadly cobra has a reputation across southeast Asia and India, and they are known to grow up to 18.8ft long. A single bite from the snake can be fatal if it’s not treated immediately with the correct anti-venom, and the woman heard in the video knew how deadly this situation could have been.

Since she’s used to dealing with deadly intruders, she was prepared to rush her protective dogs to a veterinary hospital immediately if they had been attacked by the snake.

According to the Mirror, “King cobras tend to avoid humans and prey on other snakes, lizards, and rodents.”

Warning: This article contains graphic content that may be upsetting to some readers.

An Ohio rescue group, called FIDO’s Companion Rescue is looking for the owner who mistreated and abandoned a 2-year-old dog.

According to the rescue, the dog was brought into the Lorain County Pound on Saturday after he was found tied outdoors. The shelter then reached out to FIDO’s Companion Rescue for help and they were shocked to see the terrible condition the dog was in.

The dog, whose name is Amos, was severely emaciated and was suffering from open wounds identified as bed sores on his backside. Rescuers also noticed cuts and bruises on his ankles and paws.

Veterinarians and shelter staff believe that his open sores are likely a result of Amos being kept in a cage for extended periods of time. The pain Amos has likely been through is unimaginable and we are so happy he is in safe and loving hands at the shelter.

The rescue shared on their Facebook, “Amos is now on IV’s with antibiotics and being fed small meals throughout the day at our vet clinic. As we get weight on him he will need surgery to repair his wounds. Amos will be on a long journey of recovery, but we are hopeful about his prognosis.”

To help with Amos’ veterinarian costs and future surgeries, donations can be sent West Park Animal Hospital located at 4117 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland, Ohio 44135 or directly to FIDO’s Companion Rescue at PO Box 518, Avon, Ohio, 44011.

We cannot believe such cruel human beings would ever mistreat an animal, but we’re so happy Amos has a better life ahead of him!

Dog ‘Too Yucky’ To Live Is Unrecognizable After Being Loved

A dog’s health and happiness is a direct reflection of how well their owners treat them, which is why many dogs that have been abused or neglected are physically unwell and suffer from anxiety and behavioral problems.

So when a South African couple brought a small dog named Nik Nak to the vet last month, the staff could instantly tell the couple had mistreated and neglected the poor animal since he was covered in scabs and mange, was malnourished, and had a broken leg.

Yet instead of asking for their help, the cruel couple demanded that the staff euthanize the dog because he was too ugly and they feared his skin infection would spread to their other animals. “He’s yucky, put him to sleep,” the couple said.

Thankfully, the staff hadn’t given up on Nik Nak, and instead of putting him down, they reached out to the Sidewalk Specials animal rescue network who helped find him a foster home. “When I collected him, he was in such a bad way,” said Cape Town resident Kamilla Nurock, who volunteered to foster Nik Nak.  “He was very malnourished and he had been through a lot.”

Nurock was only supposed to foster Nik Nak for a week, but as he healed and got treatment, his personality started to shine. Nurock decided to adopt him and renamed him Newman to better matched his new life. “I had been looking for a rescue for a while,” she said. “But someone told me [you don’t choose the dog], the dog chooses you.”

Dog Saved From Dog Meat Farm Shows Rescuers She’s Pregnant

When abused or neglected animals finally get rescued, they often take some time to warm up to their rescuers since they’ve learned to associate humans with pain and suffering.

So when the Humane Society of Tampa Bay recently welcomed 14 traumatized dogs from a South Korean dog meat farm, the dogs were understandably weary of their new surroundings and needed time to adjust. However, the staff noticed that one dog in particular was even more fearful of people than the others.

Photo by Humane Society of Tampa Bay

The dog, named Rosa, was constantly backed up against a wall and when anyone passed by, she would huddle in the corner as if she was trying to become invisible. “Her body language in the photos shows that she is trying to disappear into the wall,” the organization said.

Photo by Humane Society of Tampa Bay

The only person Rosa would allow to get close to her was her trainer, and when she finally trusted him enough, she showed him her swollen belly and the team realized she was pregnant. “As if existence on a meat farm, an international journey, and a whole new environment weren’t stressful enough, we’ve discovered that our Rosa is pregnant. After noticing her belly he was finally able to touch her and confirm the pregnancy. She is very far along and could give birth soon,” The rescuers explained.

Photo by Humane Society of Tampa Bay

“We have moved her to a quiet kennel away from the hustle and bustle where she can nest and feel more safe. We are extremely grateful that she is not still stuck in a filthy, crowded cage where she’d give birth alone and that her puppies will now have a fighting chance.”

After Owners Died, Relatives Free Tiny Dog In The Woods To Fend For Himself

After tiny Chihuahua’s owner passed away, relatives threw the dog into the woods to fend for himself in a terrible act of cruelty.

Family members threw out little Sebastian as if he was just as disposable as the worn out belongings and old tax records of his deceased owner. For months, rescuers tried to catch the small 6-year-old Chihuahua, but he kept eluding everyone.

Luckily, Cecil County Animal Services and Renee’s Rescues Inc. eventually captured Sebastian and he is now under their care.

Credit: Facebook/Renee Martini

Renee’s Rescues, Inc., shared the following message on Facebook: “He was finally caught. Look at his nails! Despite this, he is very friendly with shelter staff and just wants love. He is currently at the shelter and heartworm positive. We couldn’t say no. I’m seeking a foster ‘PAWrent’ near Bear, Delaware willing to give Sebastian a safe haven.”

The rescue has offered to supply food, a crate, toys, treats and veterinary care for the dog, but the foster parent supply love. A two-month commitment to take care of Sebastian is preferred, and then when he is feeling better he can be placed for adoption. If anyone is interested, you can apply here

It’s uncertain if any charges of animal cruelty will be made against the family, but, as of right now, the focus is on Sebastian.

Mom Sacrificed Herself To Save Her Baby In Deadly House Fire

A mother is prepared to do absolutely anything for her children and promises to do everything in her power to keep them safe. Now one Wyoming mom is being called a hero for keeping that promise.

The 21-year-old mother, whose name has not been released, had just given birth to her first baby and was home alone with the infant when the house suddenly caught on fire. The young mom immediately called 911 just after 10:30 a.m. but she and her 12-day-old baby were trapped on the second floor of the home.

Fire departments from around the area responded to the call, however, the mom knew there wasn’t enough time to wait since they would both die before help arrived. With no other options, the quick-thinking mom strapped her baby into a car seat, and dropped the baby to the ground from the window.

When rescuers did finally arrive, they found the baby safely sitting on the lawn in the car seat, but tragically, the mother was found in the home and was pronounced dead at the scene. “The victim was a hero as she put her baby in a car seat and dropped the baby to the ground from the upstairs window,” Sheriff Steve Sloan said in a release. The baby was taken to be examined at the nearby OSF St. Luke Medical Center, and thanks to the hero mom, doctors didn’t find any serious injuries.

Cops Surprise Struggling Mom With Groceries After Giving Her A Ticket

When times get tough, parents struggling to put food on the table often have to decide between paying for something they need and paying for groceries to feed their children.

Despite being in a difficult situation, it’s an easy choice for good parents who would sacrifice anything to keep their children safe and healthy. When one Colorado mom had to choose between buying food or paying for to update expired tags on her car, she chose food for her kids.

Mom Naimo Norelli has been struggling with hospital bills after beating cancer, and it all got worse when she lost her job and then her car died. Once she finally got a new job, she bought a new car, but couldn’t afford new $400 tags. “Literally around the corner from work, [I] got pulled over,” said Norelli. “My tags were expired. I knew I why I was being pulled over.”

“The lady police officer asked why my tags were so far expired,” said Norelli, who then broke out in tears. “I explained well it’s between the tag and the groceries, essentially.” Norelli still ended up getting a ticket, however, the officers later showed up at her work with groceries for her kids so they wouldn’t go hungry.

This past Monday, the hero officers followed up with Norelli again and showed up with even more groceries, money to pay for the ticket, a toy for her little boy, and even a Starbucks gift card.“Someone just did something they did not have to do, they did not have to go out of their way, they could of just left me with a ticket,” Norelli said. “That’s really amazing.”

“Obviously police officers are human as well and sometimes we have stories that just tug at our heart-strings as well,” Commander Eric Schmitt said. “We heard about it when her co-workers reached out to us and thanked us for what our officers did. That to me speaks volumes because they didn’t do it to get extra kudos from their bosses or anything, they just did it because it was the right thing and they just did it because they wanted to.”

“When you hear bad things in the news about police, it’s not these people and it’s not probably most of them,” Norelli said.

Firefighters Save Puppy Who Got His Head Stuck In A Tire

Puppies are extremely curious and love to play with just about anything they get their paws on.

That’s why it’s so important for dog owners to never leave anything around a puppy that could potentially be dangerous.

Recently, one Montana family learned this lesson the hard way when they came home after a few hours out and discovered their eight-month-old Coonhound puppy named Blaze in the backyard with a massive tire stuck around his neck.

Photo by Facebook/Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department

Blaze had been left in the backyard while his owners were away, and when he found a tire lying on the ground, he couldn’t help but investigate it and ended up getting his head stuck inside. When his owners came home, they rushed him to the vet when they struggled to get the tire off. However, even the vet couldn’t figure out a solution.

“Fire Marshal Brian Doherty answered a call from St. Frances Veterinary Hospital this afternoon. They asked if we had extrication equipment. When Fire Marshal Doherty asked what they needed, they reported that a puppy’s head was stuck in the wheel of a tire. The Vet didn’t know what to do so they called us,” the Butte-Silver Fire Department wrote in a post to their Facebook.

Photo by Facebook/Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department

“With a lot of coconut oil, patience, a lot of ear tucking, and some powerful skin-pulling, Blaze’s head was quickly and successfully extricated from the tire wheel without the use of tools but with Firefighter Zach Osborne’s brute strength.”

“Hopefully this was a valuable lesson for young Blaze, and we won’t have to respond to any more menacing incidents involving this playful puppy.”

Woman Survives Tornado By Flying Through The Air In Her Bathtub

Last week, a terrible tornado raked across East Texas, leveling at least 15 homes.

By some miracle, no one was injured, but one of the most remarkable stories comes from a 75-year-old woman named Charlesetta Williams.

Credit: CBS9

According to KSLA, Williams was watching television with her on Saturday when the twister approached her home. She raced to the bathroom and hid under the blanket in the tub or shelter, a choice that proved to be wise.

“The tornado continued in a northeast direction, crossing CR 3300 at which point it removed the roof of a home,” wrote the National Weather Service in a (characteristically unimpressed) storm report. “A woman inside took shelter in a bathtub and the tornado lifted the tub out of the home and deposited it in the woods with the woman still in the tub but the woman was not injured.”

Credit: CBS9

Williams was shaken by the entire ordeal, and she explained to KSLA, “I wasn’t looking. I was under that quilt. I’m a tell you I don’t wanna ride now through another one.”

She continued saying that she couldn’t handle another tornado, and we are hoping she never has to.

Credit: CBS9

Many people are saying that Williams had the right idea by going to the bathtub for shelter, because normally that may be one of the safest places to go due to the piping in the ground.

At 130 mph, the Smithland tornado had the fastest peak winds the Weather Service has reported thus far from storms that also spawned tornados in Louisiana.

Claire and James Weir’s baby girls aren’t just a little special, they are miracle twins who defied all the odds.

Born premature and just a few days shy of the legal abortion limit at 24 weeks, Imogen and Annabelle are the youngest twins ever recorded in Great Britain. Weighing in at just about one pound each, the girls have been called “truly incredible” and “a miracle” for surviving.

[Saltire News]
The tiny girls were so underdeveloped and fragile when they were born last April that their lives were in the hands of doctors who performed blood transfusions and emergency surgeries. They spent the next four months after their birth in the hospital, where according to The Sun UK, the twins couldn’t even wear clothing in fear of infection on their delicate skin.

[Saltire News]
31-year-old Claire told The Sun her daughters were the youngest twins ever born in Scotland. “I’d never heard of twins so small surviving. It didn’t seem possible for one, let alone two,” she said.

“The consultant told us that if the girls had been born just two years ago they wouldn’t have survived — that’s how fast medical technology is advancing.”

[Saltire News]
Today, the Weir twins are doing so much better than anyone could have imagined. “They have surprised everyone. They will always be our little miracles,” said Claire.

When one South Carolina firefighter responded to an emergency call for a pregnant woman in labor one November night, he figured he would just be transporting her to the nearest hospital.

By the time they got to the woman, the crew realized they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time and would have to improvise. “It was just a somewhat normal call. Very quickly we realized that it was going to be a life changer for us,” Myrtle Beach-based fireman Marc Hadden said.

While on the way to the hospital, Hadden ended up delivering the baby girl, who he later found out was immediately put up for adoption. Hadden, a father of two, couldn’t bare the thought of leaving the baby behind and called his wife Beth to talk about their options.

“Ever since we had the boys, we knew that we wanted more children, but I was preterm with them, so we knew that it wasn’t possible to have any more babies. And we had it in our minds and in our hearts for years to adopt, and we just left it in God’s hands. We said if it’s meant to be, it will be.”

That same night, the Haddens adopted the baby, who they named Grace, and signed the adoption papers and brought her home 48 hours later. “As soon as we signed the papers I looked a Marc and went, ‘Oh my gosh, we have to pay for a wedding.’ I was like, that was my first thought? I guess just having a girl is so different after having two boys,” Beth said.

Because of how quickly everything happened, the family had no time to prepare for Grace’s arrival and didn’t have enough space for her in their home, but thankfully friends and family helped raise enough money to build an additional bedroom for Grace to their house. “I don’t know what we would have done because we have definitely outgrown our home. So we’re just truly blessed to have friends that will pull together for us like this,” Hadden said.

Finding out you’re expecting quadruplets would give anyone anxiety, since raising four kids is a huge financial commitment. One Kentucky mom had, even more, to worry about when she discovered her cancer had returned about half way through the pregnancy.

Mom-of-six Kayla Gaytan was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2016 just days after marrying military police officer Sgt. Charles Gaytan. After months of chemotherapy, Gaytan’s cancer went into remission in May, however, because of the treatment, doctors told her she would be able to have more kids.

A month later, Gaytan found out she was pregnant with four miracle babies. “I called my husband to tell him, and he couldn’t believe it,” Gaytan said. “He thought he had misheard me.” Tragically, doctors discovered Gaytan’s cancer returned in December. “With four babies on the way, I just couldn’t wrap my head around how it could come back. I thought I had beat it the first time.”

To give both the babies and Gaytan the best chance of survival, the quadruplets were delivered via C-section at 30 weeks so Gaytan could start treatment. “They say I have a 50 percent chance of being here within the next five years,” she says. “But I don’t have a choice but to fight. I have an amazing husband and family that need me.”

Because of the financial strain of raising six kids and paying for hospital bills for her cancer, the family started a GoFundMe page to raise $5,000. However, people were so moved by Gaytan’s story that generous strangers have donated over $1 million.

“Five to six minutes after we went on, the page just took off,” said Gaytan, who plans to use to money for medical expenses and care for the newborns who are still in the NICU. “We’re just in shock because we never expected this. We’re not sure what costs we’ll incur once they come home, but this will help. It’s a great little nest egg.”

“From the bottom of our hearts our family has truly been humbled and amazed by the kindness of people,” Gaytan said. “It renews my faith in humanity. To know that people that don’t even know us just wanted to help our family is amazing.”

Baby Elephant Found Stuck In Mud Is Rescued Just In Time

Elephants need all the help they can get to survive after we’ve ruined their habitats and food sources, and poached the species for their ivory tusks and hide to the point of being endangered.

So when a baby elephant in desperate need of care was brought to The Rhino Orphanage, a South African non-profit dedicated to caring for and rehabilitating orphaned and injured rhinos, the staff couldn’t bare to turn him away even though they typically don’t care for elephants.

“A baby elephant arrived at the orphanage on Tuesday night after he was found stuck in some mud. We have named him Jabu which means happiness,” the Rhino Orphanage wrote in a post to their Facebook page. Baby Jabu was found alone in a mud pit and while they have no idea how long he was left stranded there, he was so weak and exhausted that he couldn’t even stand on his own once freed.

Once in the orphanage’s care, he received expert care, lots of formula, and plenty of rest. At first, his caretakers weren’t sure if Jabu would pull through, but once he finally started to gain back some strength, they knew he’d make a full recovery.

“Little Jabu could not stand when he arrived because he completely exerted himself while struggling to get out the mud. It’s been touch and go with this little boy but we are pleased to report that he is now standing and walking on his own!”

Would you help a wild animal if you saw they were trapped in the mud? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.
