Brooklyn police officers found an adorable, orphaned kitten at their station house and they wanted to keep him.
Martin, the 6-month-old tabby is now the officers’ collective pet, precinct mascot, and morale-booster, according to the New York Post. He is enjoying his life in Coney Island at the 60th precinct, and hopefully enjoying some Nathan’s, cotton candy, and riding the Cyclone.
“He’s definitely lifted spirits. There’s not one person here, cop or civilian, that doesn’t adore this cat,” said Deputy Inspector William Taylor. Martin was left at the precinct on West 8th Street and Surf Avenue back in December, and ever since then, he’s melted hearts of New York’s toughest men.
Taylor agreed to let the furball in one condition- someone else cleans his litter box. Officers pitched in to get Martin his necessary shots, and have him neutered and micro-chipped, according to the Brooklyn Paper.
Every day Martin makes an appearance at roll call to inspect everyone. “He cheers me up. The guys come by and get a chuckle out of him, the ones who are having a hard day,” Taylor said.
Martin also has three food stations around the precinct, plenty of toys and his own special wire baskets for napping, so it’s safe to say he’s very well taken care of. “He has the run of the precinct,” Taylor said. “He took control of the place right away.”
The positive effects that an office pet can have on employees and overall productivity are incredible. While it’s not advisable to spend the entire day tending to an office pet, just a couple of minutes here and there can take the stresses of the day away.
What do you think about having a pet at work? Does your company allow it?
