The Franciscan monastery of Cochabamba, Bolivia, recently announced that a dog named Carmelo had joined their monastery.

According to The Dodo, in the Catholic tradition, St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals, so it is very fitting that a dog is its newest member

The dog, named Carmelo lived as a stray before he was taken in by a local animal rescue group, Proyecto Narices Frias (Cold Nose Project). In honor of his new position, the dog has been given a formal title of Friar Bigoton, which is Spanish for “mustache.”

“His life is all about playing and running,” fellow friar Jorge Fernandez told The Dodo. “Here, all of the brothers love him very much. He is a creature of God.”

Running and playing, however, aren’t his only duties, Friar Bigoton, also enjoys preaching to the fish. The rescue who took Carmelo in hopes that his story will serve as an inspiration for more monasteries to open their doors to pets in need.

“If only all the churches of our country adopt a dog and care for him like Friar Bigotón,” the group wrote in a post on Facebook, “we are sure that the parishioners would follow his example.”

Surveillance Cam Shows Brave Security Guard Fighting Off Potential Robber

While the job of a security guard is to protect a store, its workers, customers, and merchandise, they don’t usually see much action. That’s why this video of one fighting off an alleged robber really caught our attention.

It all happened on Tuesday at a convenience store in northeast Houston. Surveillance video shows the robbery suspect walking in around 2:30 am and a struggle begins as the suspect tries to grab the security guard’s gun.

Convenience store owner Arshad Ali enters view, trying to help the security guard and Ali hits the suspect in the head with a stick as they head towards the door. At one point, security guard Jorge Palacios pushes the man outside the store and Palacios fires his pistol, hitting the suspect in the leg.

Credit: ABC 13 News

The suspect then runs off into the distance and he hasn’t been seen since. According to Eyewitness News, witness George Howard said he saw everything from across the street. “I mean, the dude was hitting him,” Howard said. “They finally got the dude running, and when he ran, he shot him in the leg.

Apparently, no one else was in the store at the time and no other injuries were reported. Ali says he hired Palacios in the first place because they’ve had problems with people doing drugs on the property.

Now, he’s prevented possible death or injury after his quick actions this morning. Police are now looking for the would-be robber, whose whereabouts are unknown.

A dog named Lola has finally been rescued after living a miserable life chained to a garage wall for nearly a decade.

When AMA Animal Rescue in Brooklyn, NY, found Lola she was chained to a musty garage with no protection from the elements. Year after year, Lola tried to free herself, but after many failed attempts, she just gave up. Somehow, even after all those years of neglect, Lola still approached AMA rescuers with love.

Besides living in an environment devoid of love and attention, Lola was also suffering from a huge tumor which had been growing larger by the day. When brought to the animal hospital, it was clear that the tumor on her back leg caused her extreme discomfort.

Upon further examination, two additional tumors were found on her mammary glands. Thankfully, the tumors were benign and doctors removed them safely.

Sweet Dog Was Forced To Live In Absolutely Unacceptable Conditions

Warning: The following article contains content that may be upsetting to some viewers.

Timmy, a 16-year-old Collie was found by fire crews at a house in Selby Street in Wallasey when they were doing routine checks in the area.

The state of the home caused them to worry and that’s when they forced entry and noticed the dog living in terrible conditions. Authorities found Timmy lying on a sofa in the living room of the property, which was covered in garbage, feces, and moldy food, according to itv.com

Credit: RSPCA

RSPCA inspector Anthony Joynes said: “The fire crew could smell something very strong and unpleasant through the letterbox and were concerned that there was a dead body in the house, so they gained entry with the police. That’s when they found Timmy, so they contacted us.”

The house was in squalor – every room was full of feces. It was very hard to not stand in feces as the carpet was full of it. It was one of the worst environments I have been in,” he continued. While there is no evidence to suggest anyone had been living there- no food in the fridge and no electricity, Timmy was basically using the house as his kennel and toilet.

Credit: RSPCA

In addition, there were flies all over the house, and Timmy was suffering from a terrible tumor on the right side of his face.

“I went home that night quite upset and shocked, just thinking about what Timmy went through. He is an elderly dog and should have been relaxing on a sofa in a lovely home, not living as he was, in a lonely, dirty environment,” Joynes said.

Timmy was taken the vet for treatment and began his recovery. “He had so many hurdles to overcome,” said Inspector Joynes. “He had to have a series of tests to determine if the tumor was attached to any bones, or if it had spread elsewhere. Luckily, these tests came back as negative so it was something which could be surgically removed safely.”

“He survived the operation, however, due to the size of the tumor which had been removed, he was in some discomfort for a few weeks afterward – but he has overcome that and now he is living such a nice life. It makes all the bad thoughts from that day worth it,” he continued.

Credit: RSPCA

Timmy is now living with a vet on a farm in Cheshire and he is enjoying his new life. “There is a genuinely happy ending to such a sad case,” Joynes said.

As far as Timmy’s old owner, Christine Daley, 60, appeared at Wirral Magistrates’ Court where she pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to Timmy by failing to provide veterinary treatment for the tumor and failing to meet the needs of providing him with a suitable living environment.

The court forbid Daley from keeping any animals for 10 years, gave her a 6-week prison sentence, suspended for six months and ordered her to pay costs over $1,000.

Student Rescues Cheerleader Whose Military Dad Couldn’t Attend The Game

A high school senior’s kind gesture towards a young cheerleader is warming out hearts.

Nine-year-old Addie Rodriguez was cheering on her team one morning, which also happened to be “Parents’ Day.” Due to Addie’s father Abel Rodriguez, serving overseas as a senior airman in the Air Force, he was unable to make the game.

“The moms did a cheer with their daughters, and I was there, so I smiled with her and took a picture and hugged her,” Alexis Perry, Addie’s mom, of San Antonio, Texas, told ABC News.

“When I saw the dads lining up I said, ‘Oh my gosh. What am I going to do?’ The girls would recite the cheer and the dads would follow along with a trick and the girls would get picked up on their dads’ shoulders. But Addie didn’t have anybody. My poor baby. It was the worst. That’s when that young man jumped the fence. It was just so sweet.”

Credit: Local News 24 YouTube

That young man was 18-year-old Matthew Garcia who was watching his younger brother Roland play in his middle school football game. He noticed Addie was crying in the stands so he went over to make sure everything was ok.

“I ran down the bleachers and hopped down near the fence,” Garcia told ABC News. “I asked, ‘Do you mind if I pick you up?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ I turned and saw the crowd clapping. I would consider doing that every time. It [isn’t] anything special. After the game, she came up to me and said, ‘Thank you so much’ and gave me a hug. We took a picture and she had the biggest smile on her face.”

A tearful Addie said, “I just felt like somebody saved my life. I thought that was so nice. Especially since my dad is serving for us.” After the game, Perry shared the photo of Addie and Matthew on her Facebook page, where a friend identified him.

Perry has since made contact with Garcia’s mother, Rose Garcia. To thank Garcia, Addie’s parents said they’ll support the teen at one of his upcoming cross country meets.

Officer Rescues Kitten Who Almost Froze During Blizzard

Two RCMP members rescued a tiny orange kitten on Tuesday when they saw her in the middle of the road in Canada.

According to RCMP, while patrolling on Highway 39, Cpl. Sean Chiddenton and Cst. Ryan Oram came across the small kitten who was nearly frozen. Chiddenton says he originally saw something on the road and at the last second swerved around it. “I thought it was a chunk of ice that had fallen off a semi at first, but then thought it looked it an animal,” Chiddenton said in a Facebook post on the Saskatchewan RCMP page.

Apparently, Oram who was driving the vehicle was unable to swerve and the cat wound up under the center of the truck. “He backed up and the partially-frozen lump stood up and started walking towards him,” Chiddenton said.

Chiddenton said he and Oram guessed the male kitten was probably under a vehicle to get away from the terrible weather, and when the vehicle drove away, he likely wound up in the middle of the highway. “The wet blowing snow stuck to him right away. He wasn’t moving very much, but was meowing non-stop,” Chiddenton said.

Oram put the kitten in his truck and the two men drove him to Prairie Animal Health Centre in Weyburn. Dr. Catherine Colodey, one of the veterinarians, said when the kitten came in the center, he was wrapped in a blanket and freezing in pain. “He was pretty much frozen solid,” Dr. Colodey said.

“We actually couldn’t even get a body temperature to register for him until about 45 minutes of working to try and get his body temperature to increase. He was obviously very hypothermic and very frostbitten,” Dr. Colodey continued.

Credit: Prairie Animal Health Centre

They named the kitten Ambrose and gave him warm foods and warm water bubble baths. Finally, he was able to register a normal body temperature a few hours later. “Then his attitude and personality started coming back and it was just very rewarding for us for sure and even more so for the kitten,” Colodey said.

She said the tip of Ambrose’s tail may need to be amputated due to frostbite but otherwise, he should make a full recovery. “He is just an absolutely healthy happy cat with a big voice might I say. He’s like a lion,” Colodey said.

Ambrose is estimated to be between 4-5 months old and he’s already been adopted by one of the doctors at the clinic.

Thanks to Chiddenton and Oram for saving this cutie’s life!

Petrified Baby Horse Cries For His Mother To Be Rescued

We rarely see horses running freely like this in the U.S., but in countries like Europe, it is very common.

While this is incredible for the animals, the only real problem it poses is if an animal is in trouble and there aren’t any humans around to help. Luckily for a mother horse who was roaming with her baby, the men of RSPCA U.K. (Royal Society of Preservation of Cruelty to Animals), while is the oldest welfare charity in the world, stumbled upon her.

Credit: RSPCA

Unfortunately, one of the gorgeous white horse’s back legs became tangled in her mane which forced her to stay on the ground and unable to get up. The tiny foal was scared seeing his mother in the situation, and he ran around in circles, unsure of what do.

Luckily, for both mother and child, the kind heroes of the RSPCA spotted them and gently untangled her mane from her feet. The rescuer approached with caution and pets the animal for a little while first to gain her trust.

Finally, when her foot was free from her tangled man, the man ran out of her way, and she laid there on the ground trying to catch her bearings. While it took her a few moments to get up, due to the pain of the ordeal, eventually the mother wandered off with her youngster.

We are forever grateful for the men at the RSPCA U.K. for saving this beautiful animal!

Blind Dog Saves Hiker Trapped Under 700-Pound Boulder

It might seem like a crazy idea to let a blind dog lead you around, but one Arizona man is still alive because a hiker decided to follow his disabled dog.

Alonza Reddick was out for a hike one night in Phoenix, Arizona with his five-year-old dog Hank when he started behaving strangely. Rather than ignore the dog and keep on the trail, Reddick decided to slow down and see what was making Hank, who has cataracts and is blind, so uneasy.

“His dog started acting funny,” said Capt. Ardell Deliz from the Phoenix Fire Department. “He decided to take his time a little bit and really listen to what was going on and in the distance, he heard a man yelling for help.”

Reddick and Hank ran down through a river and discovered the source of the screaming. As the pair approached a bridge, Reddick saw a fellow hiker was pinned underneath a 700-pound boulder that had fallen on his leg.

“Me and Hank ran through the wash down there underneath the bridge and ran right through the water and Hank led me right through it,” Reddick said. “Hank got me there and was pretty adamant to make sure that guy was OK.”

Reddick immediately called 911, and paramedics and Technical Rescue Teams arrived shortly after. The firefighters were able to lift the boulder off the man’s legs, and while he was badly injured, he was rushed to the hospital where doctors were able to save his leg.

“It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget with this dog,” Reddick said.

Mom Jumps In Front Of Cobra To Save Her Month-Old Baby

A mother would do anything to protect her child from danger. That’s why when one South African newborn’s life and eyesight hung in the balance, a brave young mother was ready to do anything to keep her baby safe.

This past week, the South African mother, who’s in her early 20s, had just finished breastfeeding her one-month-old baby and set her down for a moment on the couch in their home. She glanced back and realized that her baby wasn’t alone on the couch.

A nearly 40-inch-long Mozambique spitting cobra, which is one of the most dangerous snakes in Africa, was on the couch and was slithering closer to her baby.

“A Mozambique Spitting Cobra is very a common snake in Africa, with potent venom. The species accounts for many snake bites and for that reason, it is considered one of the most dangerous snakes in Africa,” said snake expert Zam Paulik.

The mother knew the venom would likely kill her tiny baby, so she didn’t hesitate to grab her baby off the couch as quickly as possible. However, as she grabbed her baby, the snake spat venom into her eyes.

“Venom being ‘spat’ in the eyes will cause an immediate stinging sensation and in severe cases, possible blindness. One’s eyes should be washed out immediately with large quantities of water,” Paulik said.

The woman screamed out for help, and thankfully an ambulance arrived shortly after and was able to stabilize her and rush her to the hospital.

What would you do if your baby was about to be attacked by a venomous snake? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Husband Re-Proposes To Wife With Breast Cancer After Surgery

When couples get married, they promise to love each other in sickness and health, and one Iowa husband decided to prove his commitment to his vows after finding out his wife had cancer.

This past January, Lora Koch went in for a routine mammogram and a month later, doctors called and told her that a lump they had found was cancerous. Thankfully, they caught it early and the cancer hadn’t spread. A few weeks later, Lora underwent a bilateral mastectomy.

“She wasn’t having a great day,” husband Jim said about Lora after the surgery while she was in recovery. To cheer her up, he decided to re-propose after 26 years of marriage. “I thought this would cheer her up and remind her of my love and commitment.”

“I hadn’t planned on re-proposing, but I thought, ‘Well I have a ring, I should put it on her left ring finger and say a few words.’,” Jim said. “I wanted to let her know that the ‘In sickness and in health’ vows we made still stand. I’ll always love her.”

“I was so happy and relieved, it was a reassurance that while cancer is going to change my life a lot, I know that one thing will always stay the same. His love for me is forever and our shared faith will last,” Lora said. “To have something so beautiful happen to me, well it was truly amazing. I had a good cry of release and love and it was a pretty special day for me. It reminded me of the great love we have.”

Babysitter Saves Baby After He Choked On A Broken Pacifier

It can be terrifying for first-time parents to leave their child with a stranger when they have to go out, which is why one UK mother decided to have a close friend watch her 10-month-old instead.

At first, it just seemed like an obvious choice to have 21-year-old Ryan Wagstaff watch her baby boy, but now mom Steph Pullen realizes that he’s the reason her son is still alive today. Shortly after Pullen stepped out of the house, Wagstaff noticed baby Tyler was choking in his crib.

“I was patting him on the back but I was worried I’d hurt him, so I tried to pull it out using my fingers and that didn’t work either, I was really panicking at this stage because he was turning blue,” Wagstaff said after realizing Tyler was choking on his Tommee Tippee pacifier that broke while he was sucking on it.

“Then I tried the Heimlich on him and after the fifth one this small piece of silicone came out, I was just so relieved he was alright,” Wagstaff said.

Minutes later, Pullen arrived back home and called for an ambulance when she heard what happened. Doctors examined the 10-month-old and kept him overnight to be sure he was ok, but thankfully they were allowed to go home the next morning.

Now, Pullen is warning other parents about how dangerous pacifiers can be since her son’s pacifier was only a few weeks old when it broke in his mouth and caused him to choke.

“I wasn’t gone long and Ryan is a friend so I trusted him with Tyler and he ended up saving his life. Tyler only had the dummy for a few weeks and he has used it so much it has literally just worn away in that short space of time,” Pullen said.

“I won’t be buying their product again, it’s just shocking that this could happen and I’m so thankful for Ryan for doing what he did.”

Can you believe this babysitter managed to stay calm in such a stressful situation? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Cop Becomes Legal Guardian Of 83-Year-Old With Dementia

Police dedicate their lives to looking after their communities, but one Kentucky cop just went above and beyond when he took legal guardianship of an 83-year-old man in his neighborhood.

Four years ago, Sgt. Jon Sterling of the Erlanger Police Department met a Korean War veteran named Norm from his neighborhood after he reported some suspicious activity.

“[Norm] lives alone and he lives in an area of the city that has pretty heavy traffic,” Sterling said. “He looks after his neighbors.”

“Whenever I would see him, we would just stop and talk,” said Sterling, who has been a cop for more than 20 years. “He’s a very smart person. He has a very interesting view on history and politics. I just loved talking to him.”

But recently, Sterling realized he hadn’t seen Norm in a very long time and stopped by his to check in when he saw social workers outside his home.

“He had lost a bunch of weight. It had been so long since I had seen him,” Sterling said. “His hair was as long as his beard. He really looked like he wasn’t taking care of himself. He literally had gotten smaller.” According to the social workers, the 83-year-old has dementia, and they determined he could no longer care for himself.

“He’s got a way about him that I really liked because I’m a little eccentric myself,” Sterling said. “So that’s kind of one of the ways we bonded.” Since Norm had no family to look after him, Sterling decided to become his legal guardian. “It doesn’t take any effort to care. Once Norm started down the road of not being able to take care of himself, it was the only logical step. You know, how could I not?”

Norm was checked into the hospital and was given food, IV fluids, and got cleaned up. “The short time he was in the hospital, he got his balance back; he got his color back,” Sterling said. “He got the fullness in his face. It really helped.” However, Norm will need full-time care and started a GoFundMe page so that he can afford the care he needs.

“I just put it out there hoping maybe somebody would maybe want to spend a few bucks and help Norm get the treatment he needs,” he said. “By God, did they ever.” In just one day, they raised their goal of $5,500 and within 11 days, they’ve raised more than $11,000.

Watch the entire video below to see the touching reason why this cop decided to become a legal guardian for an elderly man.

Man Pushes Elderly Woman Out Of Harm’s Way Before Train Crushes Her

A man in Saddle Brook, New Jersey narrowly sav an elderly woman’s life from an approaching New Jersey Transit train.

The incident happened on Wednesday, where a driver leapt from his car and rushed to save the woman, who he noticed was hunched over with two canes propping her up.

While it wasn’t many feet that the elderly woman had to walk, she couldn’t walk fast enough and the train was soon approaching. When the good samaritan saw that the woman was literally trapped in the middle of the train tracks, he rushed to save her.

Credit: ABC 7 News

According to ABC 7 News, Jon Mango is the man responsible for saving this woman’s life. “I’m watching and I see her going across and I’m like, ‘this isn’t feeling right,’” he said. As the crossing lights begin to flash and the nearby speeding train sounds its horn, Mango is seen in the dash cam video jumping into action.

“I saw the train was really coming. I sprinted onto the tracks and I pulled her by the arm. She was scared, like I was trying to do something,” Mango said. “She actually stopped because she was scared, so then I tried grabbing her arm and then really tried pulling her. She was having a lot of trouble.”

Credit: ABC 7 News

Mango says that by the time they reached the other side of the tracks and the train passed, it just missed the woman by a matter of inches.

It turns out Mango had seen the woman earlier in the day at a nearby drive-through, but he never thought their lives would intersect like this. “I’m not a hero, I’m not anything. I just saw something and something needed to be done,” Mango said.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and they took the woman to a nearby hospital as a precaution. Following the incident, police even called Mango’s place of work to praise him for he did. “Just an ordinary Wednesday,” Mango said.

During his lifetime, one Massachusetts little boy has undergone three open heart surgeries. Two of which happened before he was even born.

Four-year-old Ari Schultz has congestive heart failure, which has caused him to spend much of his short life in a hospital. However, the young boy is finally getting the chance to have a normal childhood out of the hospital after doctors found him a donor heart.

Parents Erica and Mike feared this day might never come, but doctors finally told them the good news after 221 days on a waiting list. And when it came time to tell Ari, they decided to film the special moment and shared it online.

“Good! So I can go home tomorrow?” said the excited little boy, who was mostly concerned with where the heart was going to go, how long until he could go home, and if he’d still be able to play baseball.

“If praying is what you do, now is the time, for Ari, and for Ari’s donor and family. We’ve been thinking about them, their sacrifice, their sorrow, and their immense kindness non-stop. And will every day for the rest of our lives,” Erica wrote.

Ari has since had the surgery, and his surgeons explained that everything went well. “The new heart is in and beating. They finished surgery in the wee hours of the morning and so far Ari is doing well. His chest is still open and he will be paralyzed and sedated for days. He has a long road ahead of him but today begins the journey and now we take it one day at a time,” Erica wrote in an update.

Paralyzed Pup Drags Herself For Miles Past Predators For Help

It might seem like a suicide mission for an injured animal to expose itself to dangerous predators like lions and hyenas, but one injured dog knew it was the only way she would ever survive.

When one puppy from Botswana was just a few weeks old, her spine was crushed, and she’s been paralyzed ever since. She did her best to survive and had to drag herself on her belly in order to get anywhere, but it was clear she wouldn’t last much longer without help.

In spite of the risks, the brave puppy decided to set out in search of help and recently dragged herself into a remote elephant research camp in the northern Okavango region of Botswana. “She came crawling — literally crawling because her back legs were completely immobilized — into our research camp,” Amanda Stronza, a worker from the camp,

“She came crawling — literally crawling because her back legs were completely immobilized — into our research camp,” Amanda Stronza, a worker from the camp, said about the puppy they named Poppy. “She was unable to walk, but full of love and seeking help.”

“Our camp is in a remote region, filled with elephants, but also lions, hyenas, and other predators,” Stronza said. “Poppy had somehow made it to us, emaciated and soaking wet from the rain.” But the risk was worth it since the workers in the camp immediately took Poppy in and even drove her eight hours to the closest vet for treatment.

The vet examined the seven-month-old and determined she would eventually need surgery to fix her spine. “He said the chances were ‘slim’ she could make it through the surgery or recovery afterward,” Stronza said. “But she had so much life in her, and I knew we needed to honor her will to live and the hard fight she had already fought to find us and stay alive. I couldn’t agree to euthanize her.”

Instead, they focused on giving Poppy plenty of food, water, and anti-inflammatory medicine, and they’re amazed at how much progress Poppy has already made. “Her eyes pulled us in immediately,” Stronza said. “They are huge, imploring, and sparkling with life. She bursts with the sweetest spirit, and we could see that clearly, despite the desperate condition she was in.”

For now, Poppy is being cared for by the camp workers who refuse to give up on her as long as she doesn’t give up. After another month of rest, the team will see if she’s strong enough to survive surgery and have already started a GoFundMe to raise money for the surgery.

Soldier Is Reunited With Stolen Dog Missing For 7 Years

The longer anything or anyone stays missing, the less chance there is that you’ll ever be reunited, which is why one U.S. Army veteran was convinced she would never see her beloved Italian Greyhound.

Seven years ago, veteran Kelly Accettola let her two-year-old dog, Bemis, out in the backyard of her and her husband’s home on a military base in Virginia. Normally, Bemis would come straight back to the door after going to the bathroom, which is why Accettola knew something wasn’t right. “I went out to the back yard, and he wasn’t there,” she said.  “It was just like he vanished without a trace.”

Accettola spent months looking for Bemis and would walk around the area looking for him. But as time passed, she realized the reality of the situation and knew that the likelihood of finding him decreased with each passing day. Eventually, Accettola and her husband got transferred around the country and ended up in San Diego.

However, this past month, veteran Kelly Accettola got word that Bemis was alive and had been found wandering the streets in North Carolina. “Come to find out,” Accettola said, “even changing your phone number can’t stop fate from happening.”

A vet scanned Bemis’ microchip and found contact details for his owners. The phone number no longer worked, so they sent a letter to the listed address, which was Accettola’s mother-in-law. She received the notice last month and immediately called her daughter-in-law to share the good news.

Accettola jumped on a plane to Charlotte and was finally reunited with her four-legged best friend.“I’m so grateful, and when I saw his little face, it was like nothing had ever changed. I just can’t believe it,” she said.

“This is the most amazing miracle… This is a blessing, and I really think this is going to be helpful for getting people to believe and have hope again.”

Abandoned Dog Left Tied To A Tree After Owner Went To Jail

It’s always shocking to see how cruel and irresponsible animal owners can abandon a defenseless animal on the street, but one South Carolina woman was even more shocked to see that no one would do anything to help a dog left tied to a tree.

This past Tuesday afternoon, Maria Jaramillo found a small dog tied up to a tree with two bowls, a pile of food on the ground, and a duffle bag. Besides the dog, there was also a sign that read: “Free pup. Name is Scooter. Owner went to jail today.”

“Scooter was sitting there with his food all in the grass. He was really scared. He was actually shaking,” said Jaramillo. “It broke my heart, like, ‘I cannot leave this dog here’ and actually there were people passing by and they saw him and they wouldn’t do anything about it and I told my fiance, ‘we have to do something.'”

Jaramillo’s cousin, Blanca Anahi Cushman turned to Facebook for help and posted Scooter’s photo online to a lost and found pet group.

“My cousin just found this dog tied to a tree at the back of Muv Fitness West Columbia and we don’t know where to go from here…clearly the owner is a piece of garbage and left the dog here. It’s getting dark and I don’t want to leave him does anyone have any ideas please, I can’t keep the dog for the long term.”

The operator of Southeastern Homeless Animals, a nonprofit animal rescue, saw the post and Scooter is now being taken care of by the organization’s founder Paula Langford. “Dog is safe now, he is in good hands with Paula Langford,” Cushman wrote on Facebook in an update. “Big thank you to all that helped!”

Lost Blind Dog Found Alive After Eight Days On Mountain

When a Boulder Creek, California family realized they accidentally left their 12-year-old dog outside, they began to panic since she is completely blind.

The family immediately looked around their property, but the elderly Labrador Retriever, Sage, was nowhere to be found. “Ten of our neighbors joined our family in the search that lasted until late that night,” said owner Beth Cole, who knew how dangerous it would be for Sage to be lost and on her own. “Then they came back to help for several days after that.”

Eight terrifying days passed but there was still no sign of Sage. “We have predators in the area, so we thought there was a chance she’d died,” Cole said. However, the family refused to give up and put flyers up, talked to neighbors, and posted on social media about their missing dog.

On the eighth day, however, neighbor Dan Estrada went on a hike with a friend with his two dogs and stumbled upon Sage next to a stream. “At first I thought it was a trash bag, so I was actually frustrated,” Estrada said. “Nobody wants people dumping trash in the forest. Then I looked closer, and I saw that it was Sage.”

But Sage wasn’t moving and Estrada’s heart sank since he thought she was dead. But his friend noticed Sage weekly pick her head up.”He yelled, ‘Dude, she’s alive.’,” said Estrada. “I climbed a lot quicker, jumped into the stream and hustled over to her. I put my arms around her and kissed her and started to pet her. And she was able to hold her head up and wag her tail.”

As they carefully made the trek back home, they contacted Cole and told her the good news. “They were crying, they were happy. We were about halfway up the mountain, and I could see that they were all teary-eyed,” said Estrada, who decided to donate the $1,000 reward to an animal rescue organization. “It’s been harsh conditions and that dog had such a strong will to live,” Estrada said. “And I think everybody has a lesson to be learned from that: Don’t give up.”

Mom Wakes Up From 7-Year Coma And Meets Her Daughter

For nine long months, one young mother from Serbia imagined all the amazing moments and milestones she’d get to witness following the birth of her first child.

Tragically, however, Danijela Kovacevik wasn’t there to see any of it. Shortly after giving birth to daughter Marija in 2009, she developed sepsis, a deadly blood poisoning, and she fell into a coma. As the years passed, Danijela’s family and her growing daughter prayed that she would wake up one day.

Yet as the years passed, Danijela’s doctors lost hope that her condition would change. However, after seven long years, the now 25-year-old has shocked everyone by waking up and has finally met her daughter for the first time. “After school, Marija is close to her mama every day. She comforts her, makes her laugh and does not give up the hope that she will touch her and embrace her,” a family friend said.

Danijela has made incredible progress but still has to relearn how to do the most basic things like speaking or feeding herself, which will require expensive speech and physical therapy. To pay for the therapy and costly medical care, Danijela’s family began a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising $50,000, which will cover the rest of her treatments.

“Danijela is much better that before. She has put on weight, she is more aware and more alive. She reacts, smiles and gets angry. You are (essentially) teaching a kid to do certain things. She had very hard training. She walked 800 meters, and that is a big achievement. She has advanced to the stage where she can hold a tablet and pen in her hand, and follow conversations,” dad Djordje Kovacevic said about the progress Danijela’s made after three months of treatment.
