Dad Survives Being Struck By Lightning On A Playground

Going to the playground isn’t normally a dangerous way to spend an afternoon with your kids, but one Irish father nearly lost his life when it suddenly started to rain and he was struck by a bolt of lightning.

Last June, 37-year-old Geordie Allen had spent the day with his five-year-old son, Geordie Jr,. and seven-year-old daughter, Georgia, at the playground for a school sports day. When it suddenly started to rain, he picked up his youngest son and took his daughter’s hand to lead them back indoors and out of the rain.

Yet before they made it off the playground, the father-of-three was struck by a powerful bolt of lightning that nearly cost him and his two kids their lives. The little boy was instantly thrown out of his dad’s hands, and the little girl’s clothes were burned into her skin. But, Geordie suffered the worst from the accident. His heart stopped for 55 minutes, he was severely burned, and multiple organs were failing.

The children were treated for their injuries but thankfully were able to go home the next day. Geordie, on the other hand, was rushed to a specialist unit at Ulster Hospital, but he had slipped into a coma after the school’s staff tried to revive him with a defibrillator and performed CPR, which ultimately saved his life. Doctors warned that there was no way he could survive the traumatic injuries.

“The doctors told me for the first five nights, ‘There is no way he will survive.’ The lightning shut off everything in his body. But Geordie has made up the rules himself,” said wife Sharon.

A month later, Geordie miraculously woke up from the coma, but had no memory of the incident and would wake up each day without any memory so Sharon had to explain how he almost died every day. For the next five months, Geordie was in the hospital and couldn’t even walk.

“One doctor told me, ‘That’s you done, you’re bedridden for life.’,” Geordie said. But in the months since the accident, Geordie has made a miracle recovery and is back at home. “And now they say I’ll walk again. It’s a miracle really. The doctors had never seen anything like it so it was impossible for them to know how I would recover or if I ever could.”

“It went from being told he was going to die, to being told he won’t move his fingers again, to being told he won’t walk again. But he has proven them wrong every step of the way,” Sharon said. “Geordie has come this far through sheer determination.”

Dad Discovers Baby Has Cancer With His Cell Phone

Practically every parent’s phone is filled with hundred of photos of their little ones, and usually looking back at those adorable pictures will instantly put a smile on their face.

Yet when one UK dad was looking back a photo he’d just taken of his 14-month-old son Jaxson, he couldn’t help but feel disconcerted. While looking at a photo of the baby, dad Owen Scrivens noticed an odd, white reflection in only one of the baby’s eyes.

Owen started researching the issue online and took Jaxson straight to the doctor when he found out it could be cancer. “I looked through some old photos and you actually can see the point where it changes in late November,” said Owen, a medicine student. There’d been nothing else wrong, although after we noticed the eye colour he started to develop a bit of a squint.” The family was referred to an eye specialist, where Owen’s worst fear was confirmed. Jaxson had retinoblastoma, a childhood cancer caused by an overgrowth of retinal cells.

Doctors gave the family two choices. Either remove Jaxson’s eye, or begin chemotherapy immediately and hopefully save as much of his eyesight in the eye as possible. Owen and his wife Emily both agreed to give chemotherapy a chance, and thankfully the tumor has already shrunk to a third of its size. “After the chemo he’s very sick for a couple of days, he’s just not his usual self and doesn’t want to do anything, but after a few days he gets back to his usual happy self. His sight is alright – they can’t do a proper eye test but from what they’ve found, he’s missing a bit of tunnel vision,” Owen said. “It’s going insanely well and we’re so proud of him.”

The tumor will never fully disappear, but doctors hope it will shrink to a small benign mass that will be closely monitored for the rest of Jaxson’s life. While everything has been going well, the treatment is still extremely expensive and the young parents have started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his treatment and medical expenses. “It’s hard enough being a young couple, and it’s been really difficult to support ourselves. We’ve had to take time off work, so it’s been financially hard as well as emotionally.”

The couple is also sharing their story to warn parents to immediately go to a doctor if you notice anything strange about a child’s eye. “We really want to raise awareness of this cancer – it’s something so simple to spot, it doesn’t come up in every photo and not everyone will be able to spot it but a lot of people will,” said Owen. “Some children at the hospital had both their eyes removed, which is horrible, and we want people to catch it early.”

Mom Survives After Losing Nearly All Of Her Blood

For nine months, one UK mom had planned on giving birth at home. However, when her due date came and went, she was forced to be induced at the hospital and it’s the reason she’s still alive today.

“We previously had a meeting with the midwife to discuss a home birth – we had really considered it, but if we had had one I wouldn’t be here today,” said 24-year-old mom Heather Armstrong, who started hemorrhaging massive amounts of blood shortly after giving birth to baby Ava.

Doctors were forced to manually remove the placenta, and discovered that her uterus was collapsing. By that point, Heather had already lost two liters of blood. Doctors rushed her into an emergency surgery yet she still lost about four liters of blood overall, which nearly killed her since the average adult has between 4.7 and 5.5 liters of blood.

“I hemorrhaged pretty bad, losing almost four liters of blood – which is the around the amount in your whole body,” Heather said. “I was on the high dependency unit for five days as my iron levels were not staying high enough and I was at risk of cardiac arrest. Kieron looked after the baby – I didn’t get a chance to care for her – the midwives and nurses were great with Ava. I was given 10 units of blood, which equated to four liters.”

Since the December 12th birth, Heather has been in and out of the hospital getting iron transfusions and blood tests and is only just feeling better. “I had one-to-one care throughout – without the amazing staff and the generosity of people donating blood, I without a doubt wouldn’t be here today.”

Can you believe this mom managed to survive after losing almost all of the blood in her body? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Pregnant Mom Chases Robber After He Stole Rent Money

It’s never a good idea to mess with a pregnant mom. One thief just learned this lesson the hard way after he robbed an eight-months-pregnant woman at a California convenience store.

This past Friday, expecting mom Jannette Garlow stopped by Canyon market at around 10:30 in the morning to get two money orders with over $1,900 in cash that she and her husband saved up for that month’s rent. “Then this guy came in and tried buying something from behind the counter… and instead of reaching for the product, he shoved me out of the way and grabbed the money,” Garlow said.

The thief assumed the pregnant 23-year-old would be easy to steal and run away from, but he quickly learned pregnant women are incredibly tough. Rather than stand there helplessly, Garlow sprinted after the man after he grabbed her rent money off the counter. “There was a rug in the store and he ended up falling. My center of gravity was off because of the baby, and I fell too. I grabbed onto him and he ended up dragging me,” Garlow said.

And when the thief ran out to a car waiting outside, Garlow didn’t hesitate to do whatever she could to stop him. “I grabbed onto the handle and he was like, ‘Go! Go! Go!’ The driver knew he had done something and they sped off really quickly,” she said. “As soon as the car started going, and I realized they didn’t care that I was there, the adrenaline slowed down. I thought, ‘You’re eight months pregnant; you really can’t be holding onto cars, let alone chasing robbers.’”

“We had been struggling a bit… this money was the difference of us having a place for our child to lay his head, and that’s all I could really think about,” said Garlow, who realized how reckless her actions were after the adrenaline wore off. “I couldn’t let this guy take everything that we worked for.”

“We do have a kid on the way, and in order to raise that child the right way, we need to have a house to put them in,” said husband Justin Garlow. “I don’t blame her at all; I would’ve done the same thing. At that point, she was just thinking of the struggle. I’m really proud of her — she fought hard for our family and she fought for us.”

At the time of the robbery, Garlow thought the man had grabbed all of their money, but she later found out that the quick-thinking store clerk managed to grab most of the money and returned it to her after the incident. Thanks to the kind clerk, Garlow only lost $60 that day.  “Even if he had gotten away with more… we can get money back,” Justin Garlow said. “I’m just glad the baby is okay and she is okay.

Dog Adopts Tigers Cubs After Their Mother Ignored Them

Normally, Malayan Tiger cubs stay with their mother for about 18 months learning how to hunt and survive on their own. But when one tiger gave birth at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, she wanted nothing to do with her babies and completely ignored them.

The three cubs were born on February 3, but staff at the zoo soon realized that they would have to intervene since the mother tiger was completely ignoring them. Since the cubs were born, the staff has been working around the clock to feed them and make sure they’re healthy, but there are still some things the babies need that humans can’t provide.

Photo by The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

Tiger cubs need to learn how to act around other tigers and they need someone warm and furry to cuddle with, so the zoo introduced babies Chira, Batari, and Izzy to Blakely the Australian Shepherd and they instantly bonded. “He’s more than just a large, warm pillow for the cubs.  Blakely is the adult in the room.”

Photo by The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

“He teaches them proper tiger etiquette by checking them when they’re getting too rough or aggressive,” said Dawn Strasser, head of Cincinnati Zoo’s nursery staff. “This is something that their human surrogates can’t do.”

Photo by The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

“My team can feed and care for the tiger cubs, but we can’t teach them the difference between a play bite and one that means ‘watch out’. So, that’s Blakely’s job,” said Strasser. “Just a little time with him at this early age will help them learn behaviors that will come in handy when they meet tigers at other zoos in the future.”

A couple will remember their wedding day for the rest of their lives. It’s the day they commit themselves to each other for the rest of their lives and officially joined together as a family.

For one Minnesota couple, however, their wedding day is even more unforgettable since it’s also the day their brand new family of two grew to a family of three. This past Saturday, Minneapolis couple Jeff and Jenna Althoff said ‘I do‘ in front of their families and friends. Bride Jenna didn’t think the day could get any better, but then she found out what her husband had gotten for her as a wedding gift…

“Jenna I decided to give you a wedding gift that was completely for you – no, it’s not hunting or fishing related. It’s everything that you want,” Jeff said in a speech during the wedding reception.“I’m proud to announce that we have now become a family of three.”

Just hours after getting married, Jeff surprised Jenna with a sweet 14-week-old British Yellow Labrador Retriever, the exact dog she had always wanted, named ‘Bear’. “As sappy as it sounds we call each — she calls me ‘big bear’ and I call her ‘little bear’ so I thought it would be fitting to name the dog Bear,” Jeff Althoff said.

Rescuers Save Paralyzed Baby Jaguar Who Was Shot 18 Times

Normally, wild animals will either try to run away or attack when it comes in contact with people. So when locals from Equador found a young jaguar who made no attempt to flee or attack them, they knew something must be very wrong…

The group carefully loaded the 11-month-old jaguar into the back of a pickup truck and drove her to an animal hospital five hours away. And once they delivered her to the animal hospital, the staff got to work and soon discovered why the jaguar, who they named D’Yaria, made no attempt to run away. She had been shot 18 times with a shotgun and was paralyzed.

“This is an area where people have cattle, and jaguars are known for going into farms and killing cattle, so what the locals do is just kill the jaguars to preserve the cattle,” veterinarian María Cristina Cely said. “It’s very sad.” Cely thinks D’Yaria’s mother must have also been shot, and the orphaned baby ran as far into the forest as possible before finally collapsing. “If she had not been found and she had not been treated, she would

“If she had not been found and she had not been treated, she would have not survived,” Cely said. “She was paralyzed and she would not have been able to drink water and not be able to hunt or find food for herself.”

The team wasn’t sure if D’Yaria would make it but did their best to remove the bullets and fix the part of her spine that had been damaged. Shortly after the surgery, the vet team knew everything would be ok when the determined baby started moving her legs. “She stood up and she started showing signs that she would not stay still, and that’s when everyone realized that she was going to make it,” Cely said.

The team was stunned to see how fast D’Yaria was gaining her strength and mobility back, and only one month later, she was ready to be moved to a large outdoor enclosure where she’ll finish healing and then be released back into the wild. “At this point, she’s 95 percent recovered and she runs around,” Cely said. “She’s running like it’s the last day of her life.”

“D’Yaria means brave tiger, and that’s what she’s shown,” Cely said. “She’s everything that her name says. She’s a very brave little jaguar. She fought all the way. The team has a lot of hope that she was recover 100 percent, and that she will be set free. And everyone is looking forward to seeing her grow up and being a full-grown jaguar and having little jaguars.”

Service Dog Has Saved Diabetic Owner’s Life 3,500 Times

For most people, going to bed might be a welcomed part of the day. But for one UK woman with diabetes, going to sleep was her worst nightmare.

Claire Pesterfield has type 1 diabetes, but unlike many of the estimated 415 million adults around the world with the disease, Claire has no symptoms when her blood sugar levels reach unhealthy levels. So to make sure she doesn’t have a seizure or fall into a coma, Claire has to check her blood sugar levels constantly throughout the day and night.

“I’ve used all the latest technology that’s out there, and it still doesn’t give me enough warning to prevent the episodes, or make them less severe,” she said. “I would be up every hour, trying to check my blood glucose level, trying to predict when these episodes would happen,” said Claire who could never sleep through the night to keep herself from having a dangerous episode or even dying. “That meant that I was exhausted. Many a time I would be too afraid to go to sleep in case I had an episode and wouldn’t wake up.

That all changed when Claire brought home Magic, a medical alert assistance dog trained to smell blood glucose levels. Now instead of constantly testing her levels, she can relax knowing Magic will warn her if her levels change even in the middle of the night. “Magic can give me up to a 30-minute warning that I need to take action,” Claire said. “Without him I would be testing my blood glucose level every 20 or 30 minutes, to try and pre-empt what was going to happen.”

“In the three and a half years we’ve been together, he has alerted and potentially saved my life 3,500 times. And he does it all for a dog biscuit. I know without him, I wouldn’t be alive today,” Claire said. “Now I know my husband won’t have to worry that when he wakes up in the morning I’m going to be dead next to him. Simple things like that are very hard to put into words.”

Off-Duty Cop Saves Dying Labrador Who Choked On A Ball

Dogs chew on absolutely anything and everything they can get their mouths on, but to keep them from chewing on expensive pieces of furniture, shoes, and even clothes, most dog owners make sure to keep their pets occupied with plenty of toys.

However, one UK dog owner learned the hard way this past month that some chew toys meant for dogs can actually be deadly. On February 26, dog owner Kayleigh Rickell’s dad brought her six-year-old Labrador named Larry for a walk and started playing fetch with him.

Photo by Facebook/Larry the Lab Initiative

First, dad Paul Hartley threw one of Larry’s balls, which the excited dog quickly scooped up in his mouth. But Hartley then threw a stick thinking Larry would drop the ball, but instead, Larry tried to pick up both at the same time and accidentally swallowed the ball, which then got lodged in his throat. “Seconds later, Larry collapsed,” said Kayleigh. “My dad and two lovely ladies also on the field with their dogs tried so hard to remove the ball from the back of his throat, but they couldn’t move it.”

Photo by Facebook/Larry the Lab Initiative

One of the women ran to a policeman’s home nearby, and the off-duty cop rushed over to try and help. At first, the cop wasn’t having any luck, but when Larry died, the muscles in his throat relaxed, and the cop was finally able to remove the ball and start CPR.

“We are so relieved and feel so lucky to have Larry still with us,” Kayleigh said. “We are forever in debt to the policeman and the two ladies that tried to help.” Now, Kayleigh is sharing Larry’s story to warn other animal owners about how dangerous small chew toys can be and has started a Facebook group called Larry the Lab initiative where people can share tips and warnings about choking hazards for animals.

Warning: The following article contains graphic content that may be upsetting to some viewers.

Last Wednesday, a volunteer at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter in Riverside, California, met a homeless dog who was in dire need of help…

Sol Figueiredo posted on Pit A Boo’s Facebook page, “Meet Bobo; he is a 9-year-old Pit Bull I met today outside the Goodwill in Riverside. My heart stopped when I saw his sweet face. His mommy is homeless and has been doing her best to keep him comfortable, but she needs our help. An organization that helps pets of homeless helped with a vet visit, but the vet just gave him antibiotics and steroids. No other diagnostic testing. The steroids actually made his lymph nodes swell up into golf balls. Right now his mom is giving him Motrin for the pain and a supplement called Sovereign Silver.”

Credit: Bobo/You Caring

According to Pet Rescue Report, Bobo’s homeless owner doesn’t want to euthanize her dog and claims that he doesn’t cry out in pain, is active, and eats, despite his horrible condition. Animal advocates couldn’t stand to see Bobo in such terrible condition, so they posted his story on You Caring and already raised almost $6,000 for Bobo’s medical care.

“We need donations to get him to a vet as soon as possible to get him diagnosed. If this is a case of hospice, we can at least get him prescribed something stronger than Motrin to keep him comfortable. He will need to be hospitalized for a couple days for testing, possibly need surgery, the possibilities are endless for what he may need. We are starting the goal at $3000, we may need more. If you are financially blessed please consider donating. Please share Bobo so we can get him the help he desperately needs,” Bobo’s YouCaring page said.

When Pit A Boo returned to the area looking for Bobo to give his owner the great news that the funds have been raised to transfer Bobo to an emergency veterinarian facility, but neither could be located.

Let’s hope that Pit A Boo can find Bobo and his owner as soon as possible!

Los Angeles-based dog rescue organization Hope For Paws was called about a tiny dog living between the L.A. River and nearby railroad tracks.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, Lisa Arturo from Hope For Paws spotted the dog nestled in the bushes. While Lisa kept watch, Loreta Frankoynte and Eldad Hagar went to the car to get rescue gear.

Keeping their eyes on the dog so they wouldn’t lose him, it was a very dangerous situation as the area was wide open. Hagar decided it was safest to try and sneak up on the dog. But when he approached, the tiny dog didn’t even move!

They secured a net around the dog and managed to get a leash around him. Rescuers pet the scared dog to assure him that help had arrived and eventually he relaxed.

Sometimes it’s the simplest acts of kindness that can really make someone’s day.

Fourteen-year-old Elvis Ingersoll, who works weekends at his dad’s restaurant in Vallejo, California, noticed an older man crossing the street during a hailstorm. Without hesitation, Elvis grabbed an umbrella a previous customer left a few weeks earlier and ran out to shield the man from the inclement weather.

“The hailstorm lasted only 4 or 5 minutes at the most. He could not have gotten caught at a worse time,” Elvis’ dad, Ken Ingersoll, told ABC News of the touching moment caught on camera.

“Elvis, like the rest of my kids, are good-hearted kids,” said Ingersoll. “So many things had to happen just in the right order for this video to be possible, starting with some person two weeks ago that forgot to take their umbrella home with them. It was sitting in a corner of the dining room. I thought about moving it to the storage room several times but never did.”

Credit: Rick Rock /Facebook

“Then there is Ricky, the guy has a heart of gold, who comes in most Sundays for breakfast and just so happened to be there at the right time,” Ingersoll added of a customer, Rick Buenaventura, who recorded the act of kindness during his meal. “It’s weird how things happen. Things have to line up just perfectly for that even to happen and for that event to be recorded.”

Ingersoll is proud his son’s simple act of kindness has received such a positive response on social media

“The attention that this getting is inspiring, especially with today’s media,” he told ABC News. “Too often the attention goes toward such negative events which I think encourages people to do negative things. If Elvis going out there with an umbrella to hold over the man during a hailstorm encourages people to do similar acts of kindness, then we are all a winner.”

After one Pennsylvania family waited and prayed for doctors to find a matching heart donor for their 23-month-old, they were elated when the news came that a heart had arrived and the sick toddler would finally have a second chance.

When the amazing news came, the doctors and family realized there was one major roadblock. Becuase of Snowstorm Stella and the extreme, icy winter conditions, the roads from Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono to Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital were dangerous and almost impassable.

Typically, mailmen don’t run into many dangerous or emergency situations while on the job. That is why one Irish mailman never thought his first-aid training would come in handy…

Yet while out delivering mail, postman Darren Dickson stumbled upon a young mother in distress and found her unconscious 15-month-old convulsing. Thanks to his first-aid training, Dickson was able to stay calm and got straight to work saving the little boy’s life.

“I put him over my knee and massaged his back, he was sweating, unconscious almost,” Dickson said. “I put my finger in his mouth because I thought he was choking and got his tongue forward, then he started coughing a little bit. He starting coming round and he started to scream – it was the best sound I had heard in a while to be honest!”

“I honestly thought he was dead, I didn’t know what was wrong with him, I’m forever grateful for what he’s done for me,” mom Megan McCandless said about her toddler named Caleb who had choked on his tongue after having a seizure. Since the dangerous incident, Caleb has bonded with his rescuer and the toddler can’t wait to see Dickson as he passes by on his daily mail route.

Toddler Miraculously Wakes Up After Drowning In A Pond

A miracle is defined as an extraordinary event that cannot be explained by the laws of nature or science, and one Oregon family claims they experienced one after their toddler survived against all odds…

Last week, 22-month-old Matty Cunningham wandered away from his family and ended up drowning in a neighbor’s pond. “We don’t know how he got there, maybe he was following a dog,” dad Matthew said. “We lost track of him.” The family frantically searched for Matty, but when they finally found him and pulled him from the pond, he was gone.

“He was dead,” Matthew said. “He was blue and dead.” Despite Matty’s condition, they immediately started CPR and called 911. “When I’m doing compressions, my children were on their knees praying and begging god for a miracle,” said mom Elsa.”We just prayed and prayed and prayed,” Matthew said. Soon after, the county sheriff arrived and raced the toddler to the hospital.

By the time Matty got to the hospital, vital signs were minimal and his blood work wasn’t good. “They (doctors) did their best, but it wasn’t looking good. They painted the story of a dead child,” Matthew said. “It’s always very, very stressful because so often the outcome is so bad,” said Dr. Adrian Curnow, a pediatric surgeon.

Matty, who had been sedated, was then taken to St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital in Boise so they could take an MRI to see how bad the brain damage was. “They braced us for the worst,” Matthew said. “I was worried that the test results we’re going to be really bad.” However, the MRI showed nothing wrong. “Through the grace of God, they said his MRI was normal. There wasn’t a better word at that point a parent could want to hear.”

The doctors decided to lift the sedation, and Matty miraculously woke up like nothing had happened. “Within a matter of hours, he was acting like himself. He was acting like Matty. He was perfect… He was trying to run around in the ICU and they kicked us out,” Matthew said.

“We just fell to our knees and thanked god,” Matthew said. “Praising god. You almost wonder if you’re going to wake up, it’s just a dream that’s too good to be true. You’re just going wake up from it. My son is dead and now he’s alive. It defies any logic. This is just a miracle.”

Hero Texas Mom Helps Homeless Man Build A New Life

Three years ago, a terrible Texas mom dropped her mentally ill son on a street corner and told him to wait for her to come back. She never did, but her son has been standing there waiting for her ever since.

For the following three years, residents of Kemah, Texas saw Victor Hubbard standing on the same street corner rain or shine, but had no idea the tragic reason he never left. “It really began to concern me and then I talked to a lot of people in the community and a lot of people wondered what was the deal,” said Ginger Sprouse, who would pass Victor in her car about four times a day.

Finally, one day in December she decided to finally just ask him. Victor explained that his mom left him there, he’d been battling mental illness, and he didn’t have a place to live. “He is a sweet, gentle man that happens to be mentally ill. If you have ever heard the term “falling through the cracks” he is the definition,” said Sprouse, who was determined to help.

“I listen to people talking around town and keep hearing ‘someone needs to do something about that guy,’” Sprouse said. “So, I will be the organizer and I hope that we as a community can be ‘someone’ together.” Sprouse cooked him meals, washed his clothes, set up appointments with mental health professionals, and welcomed him into her home. And as word spread about what she was doing for the young man, others quickly began volunteering to help.

“I’m so overwhelmed by the compassion by people,” said Sprouse, who works at Art & Meal restaurant. Soon after, she created a GoFundMe page for Victor since so many people wanted to help him get back on his feet and build himself a life. Within two months, strangers have raised $15,450.

Three months after Sprouse came into Victor’s life, he no longer is living on the street, he has a job as a cook in Sprouse’s kitchen, and he always has a big smile on his face. “She came around and she kind of saved me. She helped me. It’s like grace,” Victor said. “He is a smiling, happy addition to my team,” Sprouse said. “I’m so proud.”

Man Builds A Wheelchair For Goldfish That Can’t Float

When one Texas pet owner recently brought their goldfish that constantly laid at the bottom of the tank to a local San Antonio aquarium shop, employee Derek knew right away that the fish had swim bladder disease.

The swim bladder is an organ that helps fish stay stable and buoyant in water, and when the organ is deformed or diseased, it can cause the fish to sink or float to the surface or even swim upside down. The 20-year-old attempted to fix the problem by changing the goldfish’s diet and trying water treatments, but nothing seemed to help.

Derek couldn’t bare to leave the fish struggling, so he came up with an idea to build a custom ‘wheelchair‘. “I got some airline tubing that people usually use in their tank and just placed it around the goldfish. I added some valves to the bottom of it, which acted as a ‘chair’ to prop him up. I added weights to the bottom of the ‘chair’ and something to keep him afloat on top (styrofoam), and slowly removed pieces until I achieved just the right buoyancy to make it easy for him to swim around without feeling like he’s dragging around a chair.”

“The bottom weight is almost equal to the pull on top so it works quite well for him!” said Derek, who sent photos of his handy work to his friend Taylor Dean, who makes a living creating educational animal videos on YouTube. Dean immediately shared the photos and story on Twitter, and it’s quickly gone viral. “I’ve worked with several injured fish but him going out of his way to help this fish was just precious,” Dean said.

A McDonald’s employee in Doral, Florida, was serving a customer at the Drive Thru when something very scary happened.

According to surveillance video provided by Miami news station WPLG, a police officer became unconscious at the restaurant’s drive-thru window and Pedro Viloria, 22, lept into action.

The customer, who was an off-duty Miami-Dade police officer and had her two children in the backseat, and paid for her order but seemed to be having trouble breathing. Viloria said the customer paid for her order without a problem when he noticed she was having trouble breathing, her foot slipped off the break and the vehicle started rolling forward.

“In that moment, I thought, ‘I’d rather save that woman’s life,'” he told WPLG on Tuesday. “I see she’s, like, inflating her neck, like trying to breathe, like ‘ahh,’ and basically I thought something was going wrong.”

After the woman’s SUV narrowly missed another vehicle before hitting the curb, Viloria rushed back to the restaurant to get help and found a customer who happened to be a paramedic. The customer jumped into action and assisted the officer, according to WPLG reports.

Then, a second off-duty Miami-Dade Fire Rescue worker entered the store and offered his assistance as well. “The real heroes are the fire rescuers,” Viloria told WPLG. “I was with the kids telling them it was going to be all right.”

The first responders performed CPR on the woman and used an automated external defibrillator to revive her. Rescue officials say the officer was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but she is alive.

McDonald’s released a statement to WFOR after the incident:

“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and her family during this difficult time. I think I speak for our McDonald’s family when I say how proud we are of Pedro. He is an excellent employee, so it didn’t surprise me that he took immediate action and jumped through a window to help save this woman.”

“And he was not the only member of the team that played a pivotal role in ensuring she received the medical attention she needed. A second employee, who asked to remain unnamed, assisted with CPR. Their quick thinking and action were everything in that moment.”

Mom Finds Biological Son Through Google Search 19 Years After He Was Adopted

Amanda Borland had been searching for her now 19-year-old son Fibril Hardy since his 18th birthday last year.

Borland says her previous searches had failed because she was unknowingly misspelling her son’s name. Borland gave birth to her son when she was 17 and personally handed over baby Jibril to his adoptive parents, Gene and Kerry Hardy.

The Hardy’s agreed to have an open adoption and every year Borland sent birthday cards to Jibril’s Texas home and received updated pictures of him. “We kept a keepsake box for him. Every card she sent was saved and even the outfit he was given to us in was kept,” his mother Gene told InsideEdition.com.

After a few years, the family lost contact due to a move and Borland, unfortunately, stopped receiving updates. Borland never forgot about her son and this year she tried searching for him by spelling his named differently.

“This year I tried spelling it Jibril instead of ‘Jabril’ and put Texas. I also put baseball because the last picture I received from the family, he was in baseball uniform, and he came up,” Borland said. Borland saw that his photo was linked to a Twitter account and her youngest daughter reached out to Jibril on her Twitter.

Jibril told Inside Edition he was shocked to receive the message on March 4, but the family exchanged contact information and FaceTimed right away. “I was just talking about finding them the week before they contacted me,” Jibril told InsideEdition.com. “I found out I was adopted at 17. The only thing I knew about them were my parent’s first names. I didn’t know where they were.”

The family reunited on March 14th and Jibril said, “I was nervous. The moment was overwhelming. My little brother had the biggest reaction. I can’t even explain the feeling when me and my parents hugged for the first time.”

“It’s been amazing. We picked him up from the airport. It’s not a decision I ever wanted to do but I am glad we have a second chance,” Borland said. “His adoptive parents have been amazing. I can’t stop smiling. We are one big family.”

NYPD Rescues Ponies Who Escaped Their Barn During A Snowstorm

This is something you don’t see every day…

During winter storm Stella, two miniature ponies escaped from a stable on Staten Island and frolicked in the snowy, slushy streets. The runaways, named Blondie and Jewel, bolted from their stable on Wakefield Road in the Eltingville section around 10:30 a.m., after their barn door was blown open by the wind.

Dad Blondie, who is nine, and his daughter Jewels, four, wandered no more than a mile when they were spotted by a man named Robert Stasio. “I just looked out the window to see how bad it was coming down still and I see two ponies,” Staten Island resident Robert Stasio told the New York Post, “I thought I was imagining things!”

Stasio told reporters that he hopped in his truck to tail the ponies as they pranced along Richmond Avenue to Hylan Boulevard. He eventually got out of his vehicle and chased the ponies by foot, when he ran into two police officers who help round up the ponies.

He explained to Gothamist, “They [the cops] didn’t have a rope. Another fella came out the car, he had some kind of strap. The ponies were pulling me, they were dragging me in the snow, and then eventually I got them to stop and the guy came and put the rope around their neck and tied one to the pole and then we got the other one.”

Off-duty NYPD cop Anthony Parante pitched in and told the New York Post, “They were very well behaved. I managed to put it on them like you would a dog leash,” said Parente, an 11-year veteran who was on his way to work. “Never would’ve thought I’d see two ponies in the middle of a blizzard on Staten Island.”

Police safely returned Blondie and Jewels to Nasso and Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed that both of the ponies “are safe and in great shape” after being returned home.
