When a 10-year-old poodle was rescued by an Animal Cruelty Task Force from the Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) last month, they had no idea if she would make it through the night.

The elderly dog, who rescuer named ‘Frannie’ had been stabbed 19 times and was found suffering from shock, trauma, and severe blood loss. “Initially we were very concerned whether she could recover because of the number of her wounds, the amount of blood loss and the trauma she suffered,” said Dr. Mark Wright, director of Shelter Medicine at HSMO.

However, thanks to her impressive will to live and the vital surgeries and days of intensive care she received from loving staff members, Frannie has made a miraculous recovery. “Frannie showed tremendous stamina and remarkable pluck,” Wright said. “She’s recovered nicely and should do well in her new home.”

Photo by Humane Society of Missouri

A little over a month after the horrific attack, Frannie is finally getting to go home with one of the first responders that saved her life and wants to make sure she never experiences pain or suffering ever again. “Frannie has a legion of people who took an interest in her plight, donated toys and money to help us care for her and who wanted to adopt her,” said Kathy Warnick, president of HSMO. “We feel adopting her to this first-responder family will ensure her the safe and loving future she deserves. We are very grateful for all of the expressions of support and love we have received for Frannie.”

UPS Driver Saves A Family After Their Home Caught On Fire

Normally, UPS drivers aren’t called heroes for delivering mail, however, one brave Massachusetts UPS driver is being hailed a hero for what he did for total strangers while on his delivery route.

Last week, driver Paul Periera spotted flames coming from the front porch of a house he was driving by. Rather than call 911 and wait, the hero UPS driver got out and started putting the flames out himself with a neighbor’s garden hose. “I came around the corner and I noticed that there was a table on fire,” Periera said. “I just ran over, banged on the door. I told the people in the house, ‘Your house is on fire!’ And they didn’t know their house was on fire.”

“By the time the fire department showed up, he had knocked down the fire. Had he not been there, that entire porch would have been engulfed. That entire house would have been lost. There would be no question,”  neighbor Peter Brown said. “I didn’t realize how big the flames were until I saw the video myself,” Periera said. Despite the danger, Periera doesn’t consider himself a hero. “I think anybody would do it if they saw a fire, you know, act on it.”

The family who live in the house, however, insist that Periera saved their home and possibly their lives. “I came in from the back. I saw my whole porch engulfed in flames. It was just scary,” Tracy Lavender said. “We are forever grateful for what you did for our family. He’s definitely our hero.”

Soldier Injured In Afghanistan Is Surprised With A New Home

While serving in Afghanistan in 2011, United States Army Sgt. Joshua Stahl’s life was forever changed when he accidentally stepped on an IED during a mission and lost both of his legs.

“We were looking for IEDs and I stepped on a mine and it blew my legs off,” Stahl said about the accident. Stahl was sent home to his family and began his long road to recover. But even after healing and getting a wheelchair, Stahl struggled with his disability especially since the home he, his wife, and their three children live in was not made to accommodate wheelchairs.

So when an organization called Tunnel to Towers, which gifts homes to injured servicemen, reached out to the Stahl family and explained they wanted to give them a brand new home for free, they were overcome by the generous offer. “We’re building these homes all across the country for the most catastrophically injured servicemen. This will be the 56th home that we’ve either handed the keys over or started at this point. Our ultimate goal is to build at least 200 of these homes across this country,” said John Hodge from Tunnels to Towers.

The brand new home was built to be wheelchair accessible and even features a stove that lowers down at the push of a button so Stahl can safely cook on his own. “It means that I’ll actually be able to cook and do dishes without getting splashed with water or burned with the stove,” Stahl said. “Personally, I don’t think I did anything to deserve this so I’m very grateful.”

One North Carolina Woman always dreamed about having the perfect wedding, which couldn’t be complete without having her dad by her side to walk her down the aisle.

However, when dad Tim Cox was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable disease that causes scarring on the lungs, his health quickly started to deteriorate. Cox started getting added oxygen to help him breathe, but when even that stopped helping, his family started to worry that he might not make it to the wedding.

“I depended on it more and more. Soon I went to 24/7 that I needed it, at 2 liters a minute,” Cox said. “I play that in my mind so much, and he has a special relationship with both of our daughters. He is a great dad,” said wife Diane, who was heartbroken that her husband might not be there on their daughter’s wedding day.

Doctors determined that the only way to save Cox’s life was to replace his failing lungs with a donor’s and placed him on a waiting list. Thankfully, they found him a perfect match just in time last May. “He met all the criteria, and it’s a very stringent criteria people have to meet; they have to be otherwise healthy. All their other organs have to be in good shape, and it really has to be a single organ failure, so we can replace that organ and get their body back on track,” said Dr. Usman Ahmad.

Cox underwent the lifesaving surgery, but 10 days later, he suffered a stroke and his family was sure he wouldn’t make it to the wedding. But after months of hard work, Cox stunned his family with his miraculous recovery and will be able to walk his daughter down the aisle later this month.”I just count today as one of the many special blessings. Each day is a new day but they mean more to me now.”

Can you believe this dad willed himself to be well enough to walk his daughter down the aisle? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Parents will do anything to teach their children a lesson, but one Florida mom has gone viral for what she did to teach her two sons an important lesson.

Mother of two Leslie Eggenberger wants her sons Max and Jacob to never be afraid of what other people think and decided to teach them by example by dressing up in a T-Rex costume to walk her boys to school and pick them up.

“I want them to be uniquely themselves and never question what they do because of what people think,” Leslie said. “I try to do things like that with them all the time, but I guess this one is more extreme and it got a lot of attention.”

“My 7 and 8-year-old boys love watching me wear the T. rex outfit,” Leslie said. “I want to teach them to not care what people think about them, to just be brave and do whatever you want to do.” Leslie knew her costume would attract attention but never planned on it going viral. However, while walking to school, a passerby took a video of her and posted it online.

“It is really cool that she is doing it, and I think it’s great that she’s doing it,” said Leslie’s son Jacob. “I hope a lot of people actually, maybe, show it to their kids and just do things like that with their kids, because this is also what our kids are going to remember, these silly memories that we make together,” said Leslie, who plans to continue to wear the costume to school to make people smile.

Injured Vet Carries Runner Across Marathon Finish Line

Completing a marathon is an incredible accomplishment for someone with both their legs, nevermind someone who lost their leg in an explosion.

However, Army Staff Sergeant Earl Granville refused to let a missing leg stop him from running in and completing the Boston Marathon, and became a hero to millions in the process when he refused to let his injury stop him from helping a fellow runner across the finish line.

In 2008, Granville was serving in Afghanistan and lost his leg when a roadside bomb exploded. His career in the Army might have been finished, but he never let the injury hold him back and went on to compete in the Boston, Chicago, Detroit, and New York marathons in a handbike.

But this year, Granville ran in the Boston Marathon without the bike, and inspired millions when he picked up his running partner near the end of the course and carried her over the finish line. Granville, on the other hand, didn’t see what was so inspiring about what he did. “I don’t know what they’re inspired about,” Granville said. “I’m walking.” But as the footage spread online, he was moved by everyone’s support. “So, apparently I did something today,”  he wrote. “Thank you everybody for your support. I”ll post more during the week…but until then, once again, thanks for all the encouragement. I’m so very grateful.”

Fathers are known for being overprotective when it comes to their daughters, but one Utah dad has touched the hearts of people around the country by what he did for his six-year-old after she had an accident at school.

Last week, mom Connie Sowards received a call in the middle of the day from her six-year-old daughter Valerie. The kindergartener had accidentally peed her pants while in class and was crying that she wanted to get picked up. Connie told her husband Ben about the accident, and he immediately went to bring her home.

“My heart kind of just broke,” Ben said. But before leaving, he decided to try and make the situation less embarrassing for Valerie and splashed some water on his pants to make it look as though he had peed himself also. And when he showed up at school, it was all worth it when he saw his little girl’s face.

“When he arrived to pick her up, he told her, ‘Honey, I need to use your backpack to cover up my accident if we are gonna get out of here,’” said Ben’s older daughter Lucinda, who shared pictures of the touching moment online. “She looked at me with just the biggest incredulity,” said the hero dad“She was laughing about it. Firefighters Rescue Kittens Born Inside Their Fire Engine

For a pregnant stray cat, the most important part of preparing for the birth of her kittens is finding a safe place to give birth that’s free from predators and danger.

So when a stray cat found a fire engine that hadn’t been used for a while because it was in the shop being repaired, she knew it was the perfect spot. But when the truck was returned to the Indianapolis Fire Department shortly after, the crew had no idea that their truck was now holding precious cargo.

But when the crew started hearing strange noises coming from within the truck, they decided to investigate. “They thought it was bird’s chirping but then found the babies huddled together in that compartment. They were pretty dirty and hungry,” said Rita Reith, battalion chief of media relations.

The firefighters pulled the three kittens from the engine’s hose bed, and since their mother wasn’t with them and couldn’t be found, they took the litter to Noah’s Animal Hospital. For now, the babies with be cared for and hand-fed for about eight weeks and then put up for adoption.

Rescuers Shave 6 Pounds Of Matted Fur Off Neglected Dog

When North Carolina animal rescuers were contacted on Easter Sunday about a severely neglected dog that desperately needed their help, they didn’t know what to expect.

But when Joey Prince, a shelter director from Columbus County Animal Control, finally saw the neglected dog, he was truly speechless. “It was the worst case of matting I’ve ever seen,” said Prince, who has unfortunately seen countless neglected animals.

Photo by Columbus County Animal Control

Rescuers brought the dog, who they named Mattie, straight to Wags and Wiggle Dog Salon and spent more than three hours shaving six pounds of filthy, matted fur off the 22-pound dog. And once freed from all the fur that made it impossible to move without pain, Mattie couldn’t stop wagging his tail.

“He didn’t really talk before he was shaved, but now he’s talking. He wags his tail and we’re working on his back leg,” Prince said. Despite being neglected for so long, the vet found that Mattie was surprisingly healthy and expects him to make a full recovery with a better diet and lots of affection. “He’s a great dog, and I’m so glad we found him in time,” Prince said.

Woman Performs CPR To Save A Pigeon She Found Dying

Almost anyone would do anything to help a sick or injured dog or cat, but very few would do the same for animals that are considered to be a dirty pest.

However, 34-year-old Lehar Laghmani was raised as a Sikh and was always taught to help all living creatures in need, no matter what kind. So when she spotted a pigeon that appeared to be dying, she knew she had to do something to try to save it.

“I saw the pigeon just lying there in the middle of the street, so I went to see if it was dead or alive. Had it been dead, I would have just moved it aside, but it was conscious with its eyes still flickering,” said Lehar. Lehar knew there wasn’t enough time to get the bird to a vet, so she started performing CPR right on the street.

Unfortunately, the bird didn’t seem to respond to the CPR, so Lehar gently placed the pigeon out of harm’s way by a tree since there was nothing else she could do for it. But Lehar’s efforts have since gone viral after a passerby filmed her good deed and posted it online.

Many praised Lehar for doing everything she could to help the animal, but others were disgusted. “People were saying I’d end up sick, but I know what I’m doing. I volunteer in hospitals all over Scotland and get yearly blood tests and vaccinations,” said Lehar. “If any damn animal needs my help, then I’m going to give my help.”

Family Abandons Elderly Dog At A Shelter In A Trash Bag

A dog will give all their love and devotion to their family until the day they die, which is why rescuers from a California animal shelter were so heartbroken when a family abandoned their elderly dog.

For the past ten years, Blackie the dog had given her family all of her love and affection. As she got older, however, she required more care than what her family wanted to give her. When a tumor on her tail began bleeding and making a mess everywhere, they decided it was time for her to go.

“Blackie was surrendered because she was bleeding all over,” said Kelly Smíšek, executive director of Frosted Faces Foundation (FFF). The family put Blackie in a garbage bag to keep blood from getting on their car, and just left her at the Carson Animal Shelter.

Rescuers from FFF heard about Blackie and immediately drove to the shelter to pick her up. “She slept for the entire car ride, and when she arrived at FFF, she wanted to sniff everyone and everything,” Smíšek said. “She is eager to please, curious and quickly finds her human’s side in times of uncertainty. But you can tell that her love has not been reciprocated for a long time.”

Despite everything Blackie’s been through, she’s incredibly friendly and seemed to sense that she’s finally in good hands. The group immediately got Blackie clean, fed her a good meal, and gave her lots of attention. And once Blackie gets surgery to remove the tumor, her rescuers are determined to find her a family deserving her love that will care for her for the rest of her life. “She is a loyal dog and will find a deserving family quickly — I am sure of it,” Smíšek said.

Trooper Ran Across A Busy Freeway To Save 6 Ducklings

Police officers dedicate their lives to protecting their communities and are even willing to risk their lives to keep others safe, no matter what species they are.

So when one Washington State Patrol officer named Matt Rogers heard that a mother duck and her babies had gotten stuck trying to cross a busy freeway and were likely going to be hit by one of the many passing cars, he rushed over to the scene.

Rogers quickly managed to catch the mother duck and five of her ducklings and placed them safely in a cardboard box in the back of his patrol car. The last duckling, however, wasn’t as easy to catch. “One of the ducklings they were trying to catch actually ran across all four lanes of I5,” said public information officer Travis Shearer. “But miraculously, the little duckling was not hit.”

Rogers knew that if he didn’t act fast, the duckling would either get run over or a driver would get into an accident trying to swerve and avoid running the tiny animal over, so he bravely ran out into the road at the safest opportunity and managed to scoop the lucky duckling up just in time.

Once Rogers had the entire family safe in the backseat, he escorted the family to a pond far from the freeway and released them back into the wild. “For as long as I’ve been a trooper working this area, it’s a very common occurrence,” Shearer said. “When the wild ducks are hatching, we get quite a few calls in the region. We do our best to scoop them up and relocate them safely off the freeway.”

UPS Driver Leaves Sorry Note After Running Over Family’s Dog

A family in Washington is mourning the tragic loss of their dog after he was hit and killed on Thursday by a UPS driver, who was backing out of the family’s property near Lake Samish.

The 14-year-old shar-pei and terrier mix named Toby was one of the family’s two dogs, and the entire Wakelin family is devastated! To make matters even worse, the way the family found out about Toby’s death is despicable.

Credit: teamyummymummy Instagram

According to King 5 News, the driver left a note on the front door reading, “Sorry I backed over Tobey. He’s dead over by where I turn around. I didn’t see him behind me. Sorry.”

Toby’s owner, Cynthia Wakelin told the news station, “Who does something like that? UPS needs to educate their drivers about how to do the right thing. It’s more about than delivering packages. I live on a mountain. I moved there for a reason. They roam or go down the back to the lake. Full freedom….most of the time they sit on the porch.”

Credit: King 5 News

Cynthia had to search all over the find the body of  Toby, but when she did, she learned how badly he had been hit and there was a trail of his blood down the driveway. The driver did not call the family even though there was a phone number on the dog’s collar. UPS said it is their policy in cases like this to “knock on the door and if no one is home to leave a note.”

In a statement to King 5, UPS said they apologized to the customer for the “unfortunate incident.” “The driver involved has been disciplined, and the company will make a goodwill payment to the customer,” UPS said in the statement.

Credit: King 5 News

A UPS spokesman would not specify why the driver was disciplined since he followed protocol, but he did say the driver failed to notify his manager about the incident until the next day. The driver’s manager later visited Wakelin’s home after learning what happened and offered his condolences. “He was really upset that it was handled this way,” said Cynthia. “He felt really bad because he is a dog owner, too.”

This was not an isolated incident, however, and there have been at least two other incidents across the country in recent years where a UPS driver killed a dog and left a note.

The former voice contestant woke up one morning at her home in Nashville, Tennessee with a stinging sensation on her face, only to discover a dying spider in her right hand. According to People.com, Linsey later found out the spider was a brown recluse, one of the deadliest spiders in North America. d

She rushed to urgent care, and told People, “The swelling was the first thing, and then I ended up just having crazy, crazy symptoms. I had muscle spasms, then I had a body rash all over…Every day was another thing.”

The swelling, however, wasn’t the worst part, as Linsey explained on her Instagram“I was supposed to be getting better, but I was getting worse – up until day nine, which is when the symptoms stopped happening and the necrosis started on my face,” she said.

The skin surrounding Linsey’s bite began to rot and left what she describes as “a hole in her face.

It is still uncertain whether or not Linsey will be stuck with a scar forever, but she admits she has changed her makeup routine accordingly.

“I’m one of those people that just throws it on and goes, but now I have to put three or more layers on this one area of my face,” she explains. “It’s kind of a pain at this point but, after going through everything I went through, I’m just glad to be alive.”

First responders don’t hesitate to put themselves in harm’s way if it means saving someone or something. so when one Ohio firefighter heard a call about a trapped owl, he immediately got to work even though the wild animal could have attacked at any moment.

This past Sunday, a police officer from the Jackson Township Police Department discovered a great horned owl clinging to a tree branch in desperate need of help. At first, the officer thought it was just a trash bag in the tree, but as he got closer, he realized it was actually an owl that got tangled badly in the string of a kite.

The officer called firefighters from the Jackson Township Fire Department for help, and when fireman Mike Wykoff arrived at the scene, he didn’t hesitate to help the injured animal even though he was putting himself at risk of being attacked by the intimidating bird known for its deadly sharp talons.

Wykoff slowly approached the frightened bird and carefully started to untangle the kite. Thankfully, the bird sensed the men were just trying to help and let Wykoff clip away the tangled strings without attacking. After a few minutes, Wykoff managed to free the owl’s wing and brought it to the Wildlife Conservation Center in Hartville for treatment.

When two South Carolina women found out that an innocent dog was being forced to live in cruel conditions with its mouth taped shut, she decided to risk their own safety in order to save him.

“Help! Who can we can call about this baby? He has tape around his mouth and face! When he was out of the fence we tried calling him over to help but he seemed so scared!” the woman who discovered the dog wrote in a post on her Facebook.

Two women from the community saw the heartbreaking post and knew they couldn’t wait for animal control to get to the dog since he was struggling to breathe. Instead, they went themselves to the location and found the dog, who they renamed Tank, still covered in tape.

There was no way of telling how long Tank’s mouth had been taped up or when he last ate, so the two brave women rescued the dog and rushed him straight to Animal Control to finally cut him free from the tape muzzle and examine him to see if he had any other injuries.

Thankfully the two good samaritans rescued Tank in time, and he is now recovering at Lexington Animal Control while his owner is now being investigated for animal cruelty, and if convicted, they could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Fireman Catches Baby Dropped Out Of A Burning Building

First responders are trained to make split-second decisions in life or death situations. So when one Tennessee firefighter saw a desperate father dangling his baby out the window of a burning building, he knew exactly what to do…

Shortly after the Knoxville Fire Department received a call about a local apartment on fire, a crew immediately made their way to the scene. However, by the time they arrived, several people trapped in their apartments were sticking their heads out windows for air as thick, black smoke poured out.

Knoxville Senior Firefighter Eric “Bo” Merritt spotted a man dangling a newborn out a third-story window and knew he had to do something fast to save the baby even though the crew had no idea what the state of the fire was inside yet. “There was a lot of smoke coming from that particular window. I didn’t think it was the best for a baby to be in a smoky environment,” Merritt said.

“So before we even got the ladders set up, I told him to drop it – and hope for the best. He thought about it for a second and I guess he realized, too, that was the best option. I didn’t know how bad it was on the inside, if the fire was growing or not, so I didn’t want to take the chance of the baby staying up there.”

“(The baby) cried a little bit but he was fine,” Merritt said about the baby that was dropped from a window about 25-30 feet above the ground. “I just happened to be in the right place at the right place at the right time. Anybody with KFD would have done the same thing in that situation… Everything went amazing. Everybody got out. And that’s the whole goal. Hopefully, it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing and I don’t have to ever do that again. We don’t train for it.”

“They would start picking teams and I would be the only one left out. And then they would just tell me ‘just go home.’ You can break someone’s heart like that,” Jamarion said about the weekly heartbreak after trying to join neighborhood kids playing basketball as a community center.

So on the first day of middle school at Eagles Landing Middle School, Jamarion found basketball coach Darian Williams and told him he wanted to join the team. “I said, ‘Oh, great, just make sure you try out,’” said Darian, who was really wondering how he could ever play basketball with no arms. “But man, he told me, ‘Mr. Williams, I’ve never been on a team before. Even if I don’t play, I just want to be on the team.’ And how could I say no to that?”

Despite Jamarion’s limitations, he was determined to prove everyone wrong and worked harder than everyone else to do it. “He was usually the first one in the gym and usually the last one to leave,” Darian said. Jamarion still sat most of the season on the bench, but he finally got his moment last month when he was put in a game with six minutes left and sank two perfect three-pointers.

“If I could wave a magic wand right now and give you your arms back, would you want them?” Jamarion was asked. “I don’t need them,” he said confidently in response.

8-Year-Old Daughter Of Slain Cop Pays For Random Officer’s Dinner

One New Jersey girl knows all too well the sacrifices police officers are prepared to make while serving their communities since her own father was killed while on duty before she was even born.

“Mikayla’s father, Thomas Raji was a police officer in Perth Amboy, and was tragically killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver,” the Jamesburg Police Department explained. Tragically, Mikayla Raji, 8, never got to meet her father since she was born seven months after he was killed, but has always admired what he and other cops do for others. “Mikayla has a special place in her heart for Police officers.”

So when Raji spotted a cop walk into the restaurant where she was eating dinner with her mom Mimi Jimenez-Raji, a retired police officer, she asked if they could buy him dinner to show their appreciation. “He engaged in conversation with the little girl [and] unbeknownst to him, the little girl wanted to buy him dinner,” Chief James Craparotta said. “Mom agreed, and quietly went and paid for the dinner without the officer knowing.”

“When he went to pay for his food, the employees told him that his food was anonymously paid for. Although unnecessary, the gesture is greatly appreciated by all of our officers,” the department explained. Officer Joseph Quinn was so touched by the kind gesture and “through diligent Police work,” he figured out that the eight-year-old was behind it all.

“This was just such a kind gesture by such a sweet little girl, that we felt like we needed to do something to pay-it-forward,” said Craparotta. The next day, the department started a GoFundMe to raise money for Mikayla’s education “I think she’s a pretty good student and I think she’s going to go far,” Craparotta said. The department also invited Mikayla to lead the Memorial Day parade in honor of her father. “She’s real excited about that. She has a great deal of pride that her dad and her mom were both police officers. She supports the police and she’s just feels like we’re a part of her life – it’s part of her family.”

And the officers from the Jamesburg Police Department are happy to be part of her family. “You have an OPEN invitation to stop by Headquarters whenever you want, and this time dinner is on us! Your dad would be so proud of the person you are. If you ever need us for anything, you can guarantee we will be there for you,” the department told Mikayla.

Cop Pulls Suicidal Man To Safety At The Last Second

Sometimes a second can mean the difference between life and death, which is why police officers rely on their instincts to make split second decisions when a life is on the line.

When a hostile resident at an elderly care home ran away from Officer Justin Martin of the Hamden Police Department in Connecticut and a few staff members, his instinct told him not to let the man out of his sight.  He didn’t hesitate to sprint after the old man.

“I just wanted to catch up to him. I didn’t want him to hurt himself. I didn’t want to lose sight of him and I didn’t know the building so I wanted to make sure that I was able to catch up to him,” Martin said. Martin followed the man up six flights of stairs to the rooftop of the building, and as he stepped outside, he saw the suicidal man fling himself over the railing.

“I was able to grab his foot and he had a belt on so I was able to pull him up enough to get the belt, my other hand onto his belt and I got both hands on his waist and I was able to pull him up after that,” Martin said. If he had been even a second slower, the resident, who was brought to the hospital for evaluation, likely wouldn’t be alive today.

“I knew it was a high-risk situation for the gentleman but after watching the video I was like, oh man, that really just happened,” said Martin. “Everyone got to go home safe and everything worked out well. I was able to help the community that day and I’m really glad it turned out that way.”

Watch the heart-pounding moment this police officer saves a suicidal man just as he was about to jump off a roof.
