School Hosts Special Graduation At Hospital For Terminal Mom

When one Montana mother found out she had stage four cancer, her first thought was that she might not make it to her daughter’s high school graduation.

When 55-year-old mom Carol Grant was diagnosed in January with stage four pancreatic cancer, she was scared yet the first words out of her mouth were “I won’t be able to see my daughter graduate.” So for the past few months, Grant has been holding on in order to make it to the graduation, which is scheduled to take place on May 20.

But recently Grant’s condition started to deteriorate rapidly and was placed into hospice care just a few weeks ago. “She is ready to go anytime,” Carol’s husband, Terry, said. The family was crushed that Grant wasn’t going to see 17-year-old Kelsey graduate especially since she’s the class valedictorian.

However, local residents Michelle Wolff and Mary Elizabeth Grue reached out to the school and organized a special early ceremony at the Prairie Community Hospital so Grant wouldn’t miss the special moment. “They did an actual graduation,” Terry said. “They had guest speakers. They went through the speeches and everything. They did it in the dining hall of the hospital just like it would be at the regular graduation.”

“Kelsey held together pretty well. When she was giving her mom a hug with the rose it was very emotional. She gave a speech, but she started crying,” Wolff said. “A lot of people were extremely emotional. My wife wasn’t all there because she’s on a lot of medication, but she clapped,” Terry said.

Can you believe how much trouble they went through so this mom could see her daughter graduate? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Cop Comforts Boy With Special Needs During Meltdown

For one nine-year-old little boy with special needs, change of any kind is terrifying. So when he was assigned to a new therapist, he understandably had a huge meltdown.

“He does not do well with change,” mom Jessica Baler said about her son Kyson, who doesn’t talk and has undiagnosed special needs despite undergoing endless testing to pinpoint a specific diagnosis. “He struggles with any kind of transition.” So shortly after Kyson was dropped off at Journey’s, a Developmental Disability Agency, and met his new case worker he bolted out the front door and had a meltdown in the parking lot.

Rigby Police Officer Chris Scott had been across the street in his cruiser, and pulled over when he witnessed the meltdown. “He looked like he kind of had a bad day, so I pulled over and I sat down,” Scott said. “I just sat there for a few minutes and let him do his thing. He pointed at my patch and I happened to have a challenge coin on me that had the patch on the opposite side and then badge on the other side. I gave him that and said are you ready to go back inside? He had a smile on his face and he was good to go.”

Kyson’s new case worker snapped a quick photo of the touching moment and sent it to Kyson’s mother, who then posted it online to thank Scott. “It’s priceless,” Jessica said. “That picture says a thousand words. He took the time to make sure that he was okay, to comfort him. It just shows the compassion he truly had instead of just of moving on past it.”

The photo has since gone viral and Scott has been praised for going above and beyond to help a special needs child, but he doesn’t think he did anything special. “He’s absolutely in shock that the photo has gone as far as it has,” Jessica said. “It touched his heart. It meant a lot to him that he was able to help. He was glad that he could represent that police officers are good guys.”

While driving on her normal bus route, one Milwaukee bus driver spotted a young girl walking alone on the sidewalk and knew she had to stop and see if she needed help.

Aside from the fact that the girl was alone, driver Tiffani Lee knew something wasn’t right since she was wearing mismatched shoes and light clothes that weren’t warm enough for the chilly weather. “I’m a parent, so I knew no parent would let their child be outside in that kind of weather with a flip-flop and a tennis shoe, no way, “ Lee said.

Despite being in the middle of her route, Lee pulled over and asked the 5-year-old where she was going. It was obvious the girl was lost, so she immediately called the police and sat waiting with the girl in the warmth of the bus. West Allis Police Officer Darrin Kmichik arrived shortly after, and brought her safely home to her terrified family.

“I promised to get her some shoes that weekend, and I think she had it on her mind. She always says, ‘Wait for you by the bus stop.'” said the girl’s aunt, Cheryl Wentland. “That tore me up… so bad.”

When one Ohio couple decided to open their home to a foster child, they made a promise to each other that they wouldn’t turn their backs on the child or children they were assigned.

Even though Ohio couple Christopher and Christina Sanders had five of their own children, they stuck to their promise when they were assigned six siblings because they knew they’d likely be split apart and spend years being moved around to different foster homes.

“We have always loved children and believe all children deserve to be loved,” the couple explained. And this past week, the couple made their commitment to their foster kids legal when they officially adopted the six siblings. Our goal has been to do what we can with what we had, and what we have is a home and a lot of love.”

While it’s easy to see the family is all blood-related, they all love each other as if they were. “She’s the sweetest sister ever and I love her so much,” said Caitlin Sanders about her newly adopted sister Chloe. “We’re all the same in God’s eyes, so the color of anyone’s skin has never had a bearing on any of this,” Christopher Sanders said.

Rescue Dog Saves Mom And Nine Kids From House Fire

Getting eight young children and one three-month-old newborn to get to bed by yourself is a monumental accomplishment, which is why one Iowa mom was furious when their dog started barking wildly in the middle of the night.

On March 15 at about 1:30 a.m., mother-of-nine Angela Fullmer was understandably annoyed when her rescue dog, Capone, started barking and refused to stop. Capone is normally a quiet and obedient dog, so Fullmer thought something must be wrong to make him act that way, and got up to see what he was barking at in the kitchen.

As she walked in the room, she saw the plug for the microwave had burst into flames, and she quickly grabbed her kids, ran out of the house, and did a roll call before calling 911. “We always do a roll call every time we get in the van,” she said. “They’re used to it.”

“He loves his family,” said Fullmer, who found him wandering the highway alone before bringing him home and making him a part of the family. “He’s pretty special. I’m glad we found him on the highway. I believe it was supposed to happen.”

Earlier this year, cruel kids covered a terrified stray puppy named Pascal in glue, dragged him through mud, and left him to die at an industrial estate in Istanbul, Turkey.

Pascal attempted to rub off the glue, but it set quickly and acted like cement on his weak body. “Pascal was in a miserable state when I first saw him inside that box. He was not moving, he had frozen, and he was very scared and traumatized,” said Nur Rima Yola, founder of He’Art of Rescue.

Most would have thought Pascal was a lost cause, but the He’Art of Rescue team refused to give up and carefully shaved all the glue-coated fur. “After the glue had been removed, he stood in shock for one day. He even turned his back to hide when he saw people,” Nur Rima Yola said.

But after months of rehab, care, and being adopted by a loving forever family, Pascal has completely transformed physically and mentally after experiencing such torment and pain. “‘HAPPY TIMES AFTER EVERYTHING HE WENT THROUGH FINALLY !!! PASCAL is spending the weekend with his family in Spain by the beach! Breathtaking view!” the rescue posted in an update.

Twin Sisters Give Birth To Baby Boys On The Exact Same Day

Twins Kim Abraham and Danielle Grant grew up doing everything together, and fraternal sisters recently gave birth to their children on the same day!

According to InsideEdition.com, Abraham, and Grant, 32 said that getting pregnant at the same time was not something they planned, but they couldn’t be happier with the outcome. “We always wanted it to happen the same time, but the thought of it actually happening is crazy, so we’re excited,” Grant told InsideEdition.com. “We found out the same day.”

Credit: Inside Edition/YouTube

Abraham took a pregnancy test and called her sister who decided to take one too and both came out positive. The sisters spent their pregnancies doing everything together, from going to doctors’ appointments and even having their ultrasounds one after the other.

The twins even had a joint gender reveal party, where they found out to no one’s surprise that they were both having boys! Even though they were given the same due date- April 22, the sisters really didn’t think they would actually give birth on the same day.

“We thought it would be a couple days off. It was definitely unbelievable. It was awesome. The chance of actually going on your due date is not good, so we’re like, ‘They’re never going to be born the same day. Just a couple days. It’s still really cool,'” Grant said.

When April 22 came and went, both sisters still haven’t given birth and they wound up being induced on the same day- April 28. “It was the quickest date available, so we were ready to get them out… because it would be awesome for them to have the same birthday,” Grant said. “We love having the same birthday.”

The sisters delivered their babies in adjacent hospital rooms, Grant said, “Yes, we were texting each other and FaceTiming each other to see what was going on and how she was doing and how I was doing. My mom was there — back and forth — in-between the rooms and then our husbands were in-between the rooms just to see what was going on.”

Grant gave birth to baby Roman at 11:42 am and a few hours later, Abraham gave birth to baby Aaron at 3:20 p.m. “We’re excited for the future,” Abraham said. We want to wish these new moms the best of luck!

While parents are typically the ones that are supposed to give their children gifts on their birthday, one California boy couldn’t help but surprise his dad with a special gift on his 10th birthday.

About two months ago, Porsche Williamson’s then 9-year-old son Kalani Watson asked if he could have her husband’s last name as well since he has been a father to him since he was about three-years-old. So the two started the adoption process and gathered the paperwork needed to make it official.

Kalani planned to ask his stepdad, Brandon Williamson, if he would adopt him on Father’s Day, but he couldn’t wait and decided to ask during his tenth birthday party. “I know today is supposed to be all about me, but today is really about us,” Kalani said. “I’m so glad now that I’ve learned so much from you. I asked mom, ‘What’s the difference between a stepdad and a real dad?’ Cuz I don’t get it sometimes…you have been here for everything.”

“So let’s stop playing and make it official. Brandon Craig Williamson, will you do me the biggest favor in the world? Will you adopt me?” Kalani asked. Williamson broke down in tears as he listened and opened the present and found adoption papers inside.

“We all just cried,” Porsche said. “I knew this was going to break [Brandon] down. Like the time my son asked if he could call him dad he was four. He has so much love for Brandon and he was so nervous once the day was here. He kept going over it the day before.”

Cheeky Toddler Locks Himself In Car And Laughs As Firefighters Rescue Him

What could have been a frightening situation for a little boy turned into smiles when a 14-month-old locked himself in his mother’s car.

Brandon Emery’s mom, Kirsty Green tells Today.com that she had to put her son in the backseat of the car while she unloaded groceries into the trunk at a supermarket near their home in Bude, England. After accidentally closing the trunk with her car keys inside, she watched as Brandon tried to push the power locks, which ultimately trapped himself in the car.

A shopper in the parking lot saw what was happening and called the non-emergency number for the police. Luckily, it was not a hot day, so Brandon was not in any imminent danger. Firefighters from Bude Community Fire Station arrived on the scene to Brandon giggling in the passenger’s seat.

He somehow managed to climb up there and grabbed the steering wheel with a grin like he was about to go for a drive. It was absolutely hilarious! Kirsty posted a photo of Brandon on Facebook saying, “Thank you to the amazing guys who rescued my cheeky monkey after locking himself in the car today at Bude Lidl! He was clearly traumatised by the whole ordeal.”

“[The firefighters] were amazing, and I think just as much as they were keeping Brandon entertained, he was equally making them laugh,” Green told SWNS.

To get Brandon out, the firefighters tried to pop the lock of the door using a plastic tool with a hook but were unsuccessful. The moment they saw Brandon put a coin in his mouth, they broke the rear driver’s window and opened the car to rescue him and prevent a choking situation.

“It was just brilliant how unfazed he was by the whole thing, really,” firefighter Matthew Wonnacott told SWNS. “He seemed very entertained by the fact that there was a whole group of strangers staring into his mum’s car.”

Cops Give Boy Toy Patrol Car After He Bought Them Lunch

One 5-year-old New Jersey boy has always admired the police for helping the community and has dreamed of the day he would be old enough to become an officer himself.

“From a very young age, [he] expressed his desire to one day be a police officer,” William Evertz Jr.’s grandmother Christine Haines said. But the little boy realized he didn’t have to wait until he was a cop to help people, and decided to do a few random acts of kindness including donating goods to the Safe Havens women’s shelter, giving $25 of his allowance to a less fortunate family, and even saving up his allowance for months to buy the police department lunch to thank them for everything they do.

Photo by Facebook/Winslow Township Police Department (NJ)

“We greatly appreciated that,” Lieutenant Christ Dubler said. “We encourage him to give to the less fortunate and always share with others who are less fortunate,” Haines said about her grandson, who’s known as ‘Bubba’. “I’m so proud to be his grandmother.”

Photo by Facebook/Winslow Township Police Department (NJ)

To repay Bubba for his kindness, the department bought a toy car from the store and had it customized with replica decals like the ones on their own patrol cars. “One of the things he wanted was a police car,” Lieutenant Dubler said. “We figured since he used his money for his acts of kindness throughout the area, we would in turn buy the police car for him.”

Dozens Survive Tornado That Destroyed The Church They Were In

This past weekend, several deadly tornadoes hit Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas leaving homes and buildings completely destroyed, and tragically killed at least 13 people.

The tornado came on suddenly in Emory, Texas on Saturday night, and about 45 people who had been attending a service honoring high school graduates at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church were forced to take shelter in a hallway of the church when they heard that the tornado was minutes away.

“About 30 seconds after we went into the hallway, it hit,” said Monica Hughes, a youth minister. Hughes and her husband fought to keep the double doors closed while the tornado ripped apart the church. “We could see the beams bending and the aluminum roof being ripped away,” she said. “Everybody dropped to the floor and protected one another. As soon as the worst was over, we began to sing to keep the kids calm.”

“Everyone was perfectly calm and felt like it was going to be OK,” said Hughes. But it wasn’t until EMS arrived two hours later and moved everyone because of a gas leak and broken power lines that they realized the full extent of the damage and how lucky they really were.

“Both ends of the building were blown out,” said Peyton Low, director of public affairs for the Diocese of Tyler. “People are using the term ‘miraculous‘.” Incredibly, not a single person in the church walked away with a scratch and a statue of Mary was left standing. “By the grace of God and the protection of Our Lady, no one was injured,” the diocese wrote on Facebook.

Inmates Make Amends By Training Service Dogs For Veterans

Service dogs can be life changing for military veterans struggling with various disabilities, but these incredible animals are also changing the lives of the people training them.

This past Friday, three future service dogs and their trainers completed the first round of training as part of the Doc’s Dogs for Vets program, which paired the rescue dog from Fresno Humane Animal Services with inmates from the Valley State Prison.

By the end of the program, veterans will be able to receive trained service dogs that will drastically improve their quality of life. “I went down a dark path. I became addicted to oxycodone and came to a point where I didn’t want to live anymore,” said John “J.C.” Cook, a Navy veteran who spoke at the ceremony about losing his leg and struggling with addiction before getting his service dog. “There’s so many things dogs can do for people. … Part of the reason I went down that path was because I didn’t have a purpose. This (Ivy) gives me a reason to wake up every day. I’m not alone.”

But the program also allows the inmate trainers to learn valuable skills, take responsibility for something in their lives, and help them make amends for their crimes.“I’m an ex-gang member, so when you’re on the streets you only care about yourself,” Jones said. “This taught me to care about something other than myself,” said Andrew Jones after six months of training and caring for his dog, Samson. “We’re hoping that Sierra is able to go and impact a veteran’s life and make life easier for him or her,” said Victor Trillo. “This is a way to give back to society for the wrong that I have done.”

Device Lets Man With ALS Tell His Wife ‘I Love You’

Being able to tell your loved ones ‘I love you’ is something many people take for granted every day, but one Oklahoma man knows how precious it is after a disease left him unable to communicate with his family for months.

Three years ago Carl Phelps started showing the first symptoms of ALS around the time his own sister died of the very same disease. “Everyone was speaking with ease except him,” his wife Janice said. “It was a real struggle getting words out, but he knew he had ALS.”

Shortly after, Phelps was diagnosed with the nervous system disease and he quickly started to lose physical abilities, had to get fitted for a feeding tube, and had to learn sign language when he lost his ability to speak. But when he started to lose control of his fingers and hands, he had no way to communicate with his friends and family.

However, that all changed when VisuALS, a program started by four students from Oklahoma Christian University, developed a program and an eye-tracking device that allows him to control a computer to ‘type’ and ‘speak’. And when the students finally finished the software and had Phelps try it out, he was able to say ‘I love you’ to his wife for the first time in months.

“I can’t tell you how great it felt to have your husband tell you that he loves you when he can’t even speak,” Janice said. “It was wonderful, I wanted to cry… It’s just been wonderful to be able to communicate with Carl. It just happened at the right time for us. It was a God thing.”

“I think we all got kind of emotional — I definitely teared up a bit,” said Preston Kemp, one of four students on the team. “For us, it was an engineering project, but Carl made it real for us. He was able to tell his wife he loved her again, and that was so incredibly powerful and impactful.”

Not many people would be able to turn away thousands of dollars in cash if they found it lying on the street, which is why one Massachusetts woman was devastated when she realized she lost $2,000 in cash after depositing checks for her boss.

Sometime after Guadalupe Alvarez stopped at the bank for her boss, she accidentally lost a bag that held $2,000 in cash as well as deposit slips from the bank. She thought she would never see the money again, and was stunned when the Arlington Police Department called and told her a six-year-old had found the cash and returned it all.

Photo by Facebook/Arlington, Massachusetts Police Department

“Erik imparted an extremely valuable lesson on his son,” Arlington Police Chief Fred Ryan said. “It is hard to imagine the panic and fear that sets in when someone loses a large amount of money for their employer. Jasper and Erik did the right thing, and I commend their actions in returning the missing money.”

Photo by Facebook/Arlington, Massachusetts Police Department
Six-year-old Jasper had been walking with his dad Erik Dopman on April 18 when they discovered the money on the ground near a school. Rather than take it for themselves, the two immediately called the police to report it. For doing the right thing, the police department decided to award the dad and son with Outstanding Citizen Awards.

“This situation shows the very definition of good citizenship,” Chief Ryan said. “Jasper and his dad, Erik, demonstrated what it means to be part of a community by returning missing money to its rightful owner.”

When one Texas father heard that a deadly tornado was heading straight for his home, he immediately packed up his pickup truck with his two young children and headed for safety.

However, in his attempt to save them, he nearly lost baby Marshal and two-year-old Addy when he lost control of the vehicle and flipped off the road. “Life comes at you in a blink of an eye,” dad Phillip Ocheltree said. “Last night leaving our home trying to get away from what was yet to come we hydroplaned off the highway.

The Chevrolet pickup landed upside down and quickly started filling with the raging floodwater, but thankfully other drivers on the highway pulled over, waded into the water, and got to work rescuing the family. The strangers worked together breaking windows with a sledgehammer and trying to pry open the door. Eventually, a rescuer managed to pull the unconscious baby out and handed him to Tom Mitchell, who had been filming the rescue since he was too weak to enter the floodwater.

“The infant is white, going blue-ish grey,” Tom said of the terrifying moment the baby was handed to him. “No color at all and the eyes were not focused when I looked down at her. This baby is gonna die if we don’t start CPR fast. Having a negative feeling coming over me. This baby may not make it, this baby may not make it. No reaction, nothing is happening.”

As Tom started to fear it was too late, a woman stepped behind him and began to pray. “Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe. Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe,” she said. “Well the first prayer she said, I felt a response in that child,” Tom said.

Miraculously, the group was able to rescue and revive the two children before they were rushed to the hospital where doctors believe they will make full recoveries. “I can’t thank you all enough who came into the water and saved my children, you’re a blessing thank you all so much,” Ocheltree said in an update to his Facebook. “I think it shows how the community and strangers all come together,” Tom said.

After giving birth to a baby less than a year ago, one Canadian new mom knows all too well what it feels like to be pregnant, which is why stunned when she found out she was pregnant while going into labor.

Last week, Ashleigh Miller Cross had stopped at a local grocery store in Halifax to pick up some groceries. Yet as she wandered the aisles of the Atlantic Superstore, she suddenly started having labor pains. “I really had no idea,” Cross said. “I presumed I hadn’t lost any weight because I only had Mia ten months ago, so I mean I didn’t grow any extra so it’s just the same size. I didn’t have any cravings.”

Store employees rushed her into the store’s bathroom and delivered her healthy eight-pound baby boy named Ezra.  “She did tell me out of everything that went on, my face is the only face she recognizes out of everybody else that was there,” said Malcolm Comeau, the store’s assistant manager. “So I guess I made an impression like she made on me.”

“I especially want to thank the staff here, Malcolm and the lady who helped me in the bathroom straight away,” Cross said. A few days later, the cross family returned to thank the store’s employees in person but were met with yet another surprise. Since the family had no time to prepare for their new addition, the store generously gifted them with 52 weeks of free diapers.

In the blink of an eye, one North Carolina family lost everything after their family home went up in flames, yet they’re just grateful everyone, including a months-old baby, made it out alive.

This past April, a home in Kinston, North Carolina caught on fire after food was accidentally left on the stove and went up in flames. At the time, no one was inside the house except 7-month-old Michari Strayhorn, who was sleeping in the room next to the kitchen.

Some family members had been in the backyard as the fire grew, and when 17-year-old LJ Gray realized his baby cousin was still inside, he didn’t hesitate to run into the burning home despite wearing only basketball shorts and sneakers. “My daddy called the fire department, and I got the baby, ran in front got the baby, and by the time I got the baby the back, it was like fire, so I just ran through the front,” Gray said.

“As a firefighter were trained with all of the protective equipment that we have, the bunker pants, the coats the hoods, gloves, to go into these fires and were trained to know our limits,” said Captain William Barss. “And this young man did it with even less than what an average person would be wearing on the street.”

Because of Gray’s bravery, the baby suffered no injuries from the flames or smoke and was recently honored by the Kinston Police Department for his heroism.

One New York mom of seven has been donating her hair to charity since she was just a teenager, but when a family friend’s son lost his fight to cancer, her caring sons decided to join in.

On the first anniversary of the boy’s death, Phoebe Kannisto’s three oldest sons cut off all their hair and donated it to a charity that makes wigs and donates them to children who have lost their hair from illness. Kannisto’s triplets were only three-years-old at the time, but they were so inspired by their older brothers, that they decided to grow their hair out as well.

“So we all decided we would donate together and we were just waiting for everybody’s hair to be long enough,” Kannisto said. So for the past few years, the family has been growing their hair out and just recently were able to cut off 17 feet of hair and donate it to Children With Hair Loss. “We are known for our long-haired boys and they do not have long hair anymore,” the proud mom said. “After the haircuts, they were all beaming with pride. It’s been four days and they’re still smiling.”

“I am so proud of my boys. They have been picked on and teased by everyone from their peers, to grown adults… but they didn’t let that stop them. They had a goal and stuck to it. They are such amazing role models to their little sister. She watched in awe,” Kannisto said. “She desperately wanted to hop up in the salon chair and have her hair donated but it was not long enough. So we’re going to keep growing out and hopefully next time all seven kids can do it together.”

‘Beast’ Steps In For Deployed Dad At Father-Daughter Dance

When one deployed dad found out he was going to miss his 5-year-old daughter’s first ever father-daughter dance, he was devastated but was determined to find the perfect person to fill in for him.

Christopher Nelson works as a contractor for the U.S. Army and has been deployed in Afghanistan since early March, and will be stationed there for the year. So when he and his wife Lanya Nelson heard that their 5-year-old daughter’s first father-daughter dance was being held while he was away, they knew they had to find a way to make it a good experience for her.

“We found out about the dance the very beginning of April. We live about 10 hours away from all family members, and I told her daddy wasn’t going to be able to come. He wouldn’t’ be home in time,” Lanya said about the moment she had to tell Gracee the news. “This was her first time being away from my husband for such a long period of time. She was so devastated. She bawled her eyes out. She’s such a daddy’s girl… It was heartbreaking for my husband too because this was his first dance he was going to miss of hers. And it was the big one -– the daddy-daughter dance.”

Other family members live hours away, so the Nelsons decided to have someone else step in for Christopher. “I was so close to getting a $400 plane ticket for her uncle. I didn’t want to break her heart,” Lanya said. “It was one of those moments you knew she was going to remember. I wanted it to be happy memory, not a sad memory. The theme of the dance was ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ And I’m like, ‘What if I contact the school and ask them if we can hire a character to take her?’ They thought it was such a wonderful idea.”

The Nelsons hired the Beast character from event company Magical Moments, and he surprised Gracee in the hallway outside of the dance. “Her face just lit up she was so happy. I have never seen my daughter that happy,” Lanya said.  “He escorted her into the dance and all the kids were like, ‘Oh my god!'”

“The Beast blew us away. He twirled her, he dipped her. He lifted her and was dancing with her,” said Lanya. “He was dancing with all the kids. All the kids got a chance to dance with him and take pictures. She was literally the Belle of the ball. She was just beside herself — The fact that the Beast took her.” And although Christopher couldn’t physically go to the dance, they FaceTimed with him so she could see his little girl all dressed up.

“We were able to make lemonade out of lemons with our situation and still make a girl smile even though her dad wasn’t there,” Lanya said.
