Rescuing animals from deadly or perilous situations is never easy. However, one group of rescuers from California had to get extremely creative when trying to save a cat and her kittens trapped deep inside a narrow pipe.
Last month, a rescue team from Hope for Paws animal rescue were notified about a cat and her kittens trapped in the middle of a 60-foot long drain pipe. Because the pipe was so narrow and long, there was no way to reach inside and pull them out, so the team had to think of an unusual solution.
Loreta Frankonyte, Lisa Arturo, JoAnn Wiltz and Kyle Schwab got a remote control toy car, attached a camera and a flashlight on top, and sent it into the pipe to get a better look at the family. Once the team found the mother cat and her four babies, the team constructed a pole and taped a blanket to the end that would push the cats out.
Once they were able to capture the mother, the team then guided the pole through the pipe and slowly pushed the kittens to the end of the pipe. “The debris enveloped the babies,” says a rescuer in the video. “protecting them from harm.”
Amazingly, the makeshift rescue tools worked, and the team brought the cat, named Nutella, and her babies, who were named Snickers, Toffee, Bonbon and Nougat to recuperate and get any necessary treatment at Room 8 Memorial Cat Foundation.
