Zoo Welcomes Surprise Birth Of First-Ever Human Baby

Most expecting moms know that no matter how much they plan and prepare, they have no control over when and where they’ll go into labor.

However, with a whole month left of her pregnancy, one Nebraska mom-to-be thought she still had plenty of time before her daughter arrived. But shortly after Kymica Hubbard entered the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska, she realized her baby girl was on the way and wasn’t going to wait four more weeks in the womb, nor wait until they could get to the hospital.

Hubbard started having contractions while riding the train at the zoo, then she knew it was serious when her water broke in the restroom shortly after. Hubbard and her husband Justin knew they had to head straight to the hospital, but didn’t even make it out of the gate before baby Drea was born. “When I started feeling her head, I was like, ‘Oh my God, my daughter is here. It’s coming! So I got more excited than scared,” said Hubbard.

The birth was so quick that not even the zoo’s staff EMTs made it to her in time, but thankfully Justin is a trained nursing assistant and was able to safely deliver his daughter. “She was crying, cooing. It was just the most beautiful thing that a man could ever see. It was a truly blessed experience,” Justin said.

“I know she’s going to ask, ‘Mom, where was I born?’ I’m like, ‘Okay, you were born at the zoo!'”

Nurses spend most of their lives trying to help others and keep them safe. One Ohio nurse is being hailed a hero for going above and beyond the call of duty to save a baby seconds from drowning.

This past weekend, a devastating flash flood ripped through Green Township, Ohio and left people fighting for their lives as water level quickly rose above waist height. It happened so suddenly, in fact, that one couple was left frozen in shock as their car started to sink with them and their baby trapped inside.

Thankfully, a nursing home worker spotted the young family getting pulled under the water, and waded out into the dangerous water to save them. “The water’s probably midway on my waist, and then I tell them, ‘We got to get the baby out, you need to give me the baby, we need to go,’” Sandra Paterson said.

“The water was rising quickly,” said Patterson. “We only had a few seconds to get the baby out.” Luckily, she was able to pull the baby out and the parents managed to get free with just seconds to spare. “Within a matter of seconds, the car was under,” she said.

Woman Saves Baby After Parents Tried To Sell Him Online

Parents are supposed to do absolutely anything to protect their baby and keep them out of harm’s way. That’s why one Tennessee woman was horrified when she realized what one couple was trying to do with their own child…

Last week, Pamela Wise was browsing the ‘for sale’ section on Craigslist, hoping to find some supplies that would help fix up a vintage camper that had been sitting in her yard. However, as she scrolled through the ads, one ad for an adoption caught her eye.

“I thought, well I’ll just look and see what it is,” Wise said. The ad was from a woman nearby, so Wise reached out to try and find out more. “She said, I have a five-month-old, I said boy or girl, she said it’s a little boy, five months old, and you can adopt him, you can have him, I’ll sell him to you,” Wise said.

Wise soon realized that the woman was really trying to sell the baby for profit, so she immediately contacted the Elizabethton Police Department. “She said what problem do you have, and I said there is a lady trying to sell me her baby on Craigslist. Next thing I knew a detective and lady from the Carter County Department of Human Services was there,” Wise said.

The police then took Wise’s phone and began negotiating with the mother on a price and settled on a time and place to meet. “They talked and negotiated a price, and they were wanting to sell their five-month-old baby for $3,000,” said Greene County Sheriff Pat Hankins.

“We were anticipating more of a scam or someone that was fixing to rob someone. Once you walked up there and really looked in that baby carriage, and saw that little child, that’s when it gave you the sick feeling of what was going on,” Hankins said. John Cain and Deanna Greer were arrested and now face felony charges, and their baby is now safe in protective custody.

“I just think the Lord put me in the right place at the right time to save his little life,” Wise said. “That little baby had a little angel watching over him, and that angel will always be with him.”

For a mother with three children, having your car break down is a massive inconvenience, but now one Arizona mom sees her car trouble was really a blessing in disguise.

Recently, mom Zarah Ajmi’s car broke down, and she was forced to ride her bike to get around. This past weekend, Ajmi was riding her bike past a community pool at around 8:30 a.m. when she noticed a 7-year-old girl in pajamas climbing the fence to get in the pool, which wasn’t open yet.

“I have three kids so I know how kids act in water. I just knew I needed to go check and see. I had a feeling, go make sure she knows how to swim,” Ajmi said. As she watched, the girl started struggling and could barely keep her head above the water.

“I could see her bobbing out of the water, and it was obvious she did not know to swim, so I climbed up to get over and it took me a few times, and I jumped right in the water, pulled her out right to the steps,” Ajmi said. She immediately called 911, and shortly after, the autistic girl’s mother and first responders arrived. Thanks to Ajmi, the girl had not been harmed.

“Thank God my car broke down and I was having to walk because everything happens for a reason, and I was at the right place at the right time,” she said.

Homeless Man Returned $676 Money Order That Stranger Lost

One California mom assumed someone would jump at the chance to cash in a money order for hundreds of dollars that she lost.

That’s exactly why she was stunned when a total stranger went out of his way to return it to her. “It flew away somehow,” said Yesenia Del Valle, who had taken out a $676 money order to make her tax payment. “I tore my car apart looking everywhere. I thought maybe I left it in the tax office, checking for it there. I was frantic.”

Del Valle never thought she’d see the money order again, but later that night a complete stranger knocked on her door with the piece of paper in his hands.

“When he knocked on my door, I never would have imagined it was about the check. I was shocked and wanted to know where he found it,” Del Valle said. Sergio Juarez had found it underneath his tire earlier that day and was able to track her down based on the address she had written on the back.

“I got him $40 and I said, ‘Here take your wife to Denny’s,'” Del Valle said. However, Juarez mentioned he’d be using the money for gas. “When he said that to me, I realized he must be struggling and I asked him and he said he lives in the Motel 6.”

“I couldn’t sleep all night thinking about what to do,” she said. “I couldn’t believe that a person in that situation would care to do something so nice when he doesn’t even have money for gas.” Juarez lost his job and was living in a motel with his wife, their three children, and another child they took in, so Del Valle started a GoFundMe to thank him for his good deed.

So far, the campaign has raised almost $18,000 and Juarez has received multiple job offers from people who were so impressed by his honesty and morals. “I reached out and told him what I had done,” Del Valle said. “His wife was in tears. Their kids are smiling for the first time in months. I told him you don’t need to thank me. I said this is my thank you for you doing the right thing.”

Owner Dumps 20-Year-Old Dog At Shelter For Being Too Old

For the past 20 years, one cocker spaniel has given all his love, affection, and loyalty to his California-based family.

That is exactly why he was so heartbroken when they suddenly and heartlessly abandoned him at a shelter. This past month, a woman walked into the Carson Animal Shelter with her 20-year-old dog named Sonoma. They had been together since Sonoma was just a puppy, yet the woman explained he had gotten ‘too old‘ and she no longer wanted him.

“She felt he was too old and she would come home to find him swimming in the pool because he is DEAF and BLIND!!!! He is completely confused about what is happening to him, it must be so scary,” the shelter wrote in a post to Facebook. Since Sonoma is so old, his chances of being adopted were very slim. But thankfully Frosted Faces Foundation, which rescues elderly dogs, heard his story and took him in.

“At any age, the only languages a dog will ever know are fierce loyalty and love,” said Kelly Smíšek, founder of Frosted Faces Foundation. “There is nothing one can say to explain to your dog all of the reasons you feel your decision of abandonment is justified, and that is why we operate Frosted Faces Foundation.”

Sonoma’s rescuers brought him to be examined, and aside from a few small issues, he was surprisingly in very good health. “He has some tiny hang-y masses and lots of skin tags, but we aren’t going to do anything too crazy,” Smíšek said. “The man did make it to 20 years old without being carved upon, so perhaps the only thing he requires beyond the treatment for his eyes and ears is a loving home!”

“Sonoma’s days will go on, his heart will heal, and we will be his advocates,” Smíšek said. “Where anger meets love, we act.” For now, Sonoma is getting lots of love and affection from his rescuers but is looking for his forever family who will stand by him for the rest of his days.

Rescuers Rescue Terrified Puppy Lost In Maze Of Pipes

Dogs are natural explorers, but one puppy’s curiosity almost got the best of him when he crawled into a drain pipe and accidentally got lost in a maze of pipes.

The 16-month-old pup, named Jet, had been out for a walk one evening with his owner Jamie Taylor when he got loose and ran into a nearby drain pipe. Taylor desperately called after his puppy to come back out, but he could hear Jet crawling further and further into the pipe, and knew he was going to need some professional help.

“He called our emergency line shortly before 2 a.m. but we knew we wouldn’t be able to help until daylight, so I went along first thing in the morning and called for the fire service’s assistance on my way,” said Joanne Hartley, an RSPCA inspector.

But when Hartley and the fire department arrived, they realized the problem was more complicated than they thought since the system of pipes spanned an area of three football fields.

“It was an absolute nightmare,” Hartley said. “The pipe was about 10 inches wide and is part of the old brickworks site, which is the size of around two or three football fields. We could hear Jet barking and whimpering, but we had no idea where he was located in the pipes.” They called the local water company and a construction company, and together they were able to send a camera down and tracked Jet down.

Photo by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service

“The piping runs around four feet to six feet underground, so we had to dig around 10 trenches down to the pipe to see if we could reach him,” Hartley said. But after six long hours of digging, the crews finally rescued Jet and returned him to his worried family.

“Jet was really shaken at first, but now he’s back to his usual self,” Taylor said. “I’m really thankful to everyone who worked so hard to make sure Jet was freed.”

“All the agencies involved were willing to work as long as it took to free Jet and I’m so glad we were able to release him safe and sound,” Hartley said.

Firefighters Free Cat Who Got His Head Stuck In A Pipe

Firefighters are used to rescuing people and animals from hopeless situations, but a crew of Ohio firemen even doubted if they would be able to help a poor cat that got his head trapped inside a cement-encased pipe.

This past week, some locals from Dayton, Ohio heard what sounded like a desperate animal crying for help, so they went out searching for it since they feared it was injured. When they finally tracked down the source of all the noise, they discovered a stray orange cat that had been stuck for hours with his head stuck in a metal fencing pipe.

Photo by Humane Society of Greater Dayton

Together, rescuers from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and the Dayton Fire Department tried to chip away at the cement, but their efforts were futile. “The pipe inside was far too thick to easily remove the scared cat. Our team sprang into action and gave the cat a sedative to keep it calm while they worked to save it from the pipe,” the rescuers explained.

The crew took a piece of the pipe and the cat back to the Dayton Fire Department’s Headquarters and got to work cutting away the thick, rusted metal. Even with the Jaws of Life and hack saws, it took two more hours for the rescuers to finally free the cat, who has since been named Piper.

Aside from some small injuries from trying to free himself, Piper was thankfully unharmed from the incident and is now resting at the Humane Society.

Dogs and cats are known for being sworn enemies, which is why people are so stunned by what one Idaho cat did to save her canine companion.

This past weekend, Michaella Franklin had plans to work around the house and yard, but her day took an unexpected turn when a neighbor’s large dog showed up in her garage as she was working. “It just kind of looked at me and I’m looking around like, where is the owner of this dog?” Franklin said. “Then it saw my dog and it ran into my garage, and my dog kind of hunkered down for safety and it just mauled her.”

“Then it saw my dog and it ran into my garage, and my dog kind of hunkered down for safety and it just mauled her.” Franklin tried to pull the vicious dog off her seven-year-old spaniel named Bailey, but the dog’s grasp on her own was too strong. “It seemed like it went on for ten or fifteen minutes,” Franklin said.

Thankfully, Franklin’s cat, Mocha, heard the attack and came to investigate. When he saw his best friend bloodied and battered, he didn’t hesitate to take on the aggressive dog. While Mocha had the dog distracted, Franklin was able to grab Bailey and rushed her to the vet.

“Bailey is alive today because of my cat, Mocha, without a doubt,” Franklin said. Thanks to Mocha’s selflessness and bravery, Bailey was able to get help in time and is now safely back at home recovering with her protector. “They’re like brother and sister.”

Mother And Daughter Reunite After 52 Years Apart

For one Oklahoma woman’s entire life, she never felt like she really belonged in her family, and shortly after her parents passed away, she finally discovered the reason why.

“My adopted parents made their whole life mission to make me feel like I was loved,” said 52-year-old Sharon Glidden. “I was a happy kid and I just accepted what they told me.” Glidden, a hospice nurse, cared for both her parents as they got older until their deaths in 2007 and 2011, and shortly after started to research her family history on Acenstry.com.

However, when Glidden sent in a DNA sample, rather than match her with her parents Theodore Hotaling and Edna Gallo, the site matched her DNA with a paternal sister and a woman named Donna Pavey, who the site claimed was her mother. “I called my aunt in New York, I didn’t even get half the sentence out and she said, ‘Yes honey, you were adopted,” Glidden said.

Glidden reached out to Pavey to find out the truth, and two days later the two were finally reunited. “It feels like I lived my whole life for that moment,” Glidden said. “It was just beyond anything I could hope to dream for because I never felt like I belonged but here, it was immediate. I’m not letting any of them go.”

“From the time I conceived her, I wanted her,” said Pavey, whose parents forced her to give away her daughter because she was just 18 years old. “I prayed and prayed and as soon as I saw [pictures of] the adopted mother I said, ‘Thank you, Lord, for taking care of my baby.'”

Since being reunited, Pavey explained she has ‘a whole heart for the first time in my life.'”I couldn’t let her go. She was so beautiful,” Pavey said about the moment she met her daughter. “My mom was a great mom, but it was almost like something was missing with her,” said Donna Shaw, one of Pavey’s other daughters. “It was like this indescribable sadness that was always there. When Sharon came into this picture, it was like this instant healing.”

Puppy Who Suffered With 700 Ticks Has Been Rescued

A puppy in Canada is lucky to be alive after being found in the wild covered in about 700 ticks.

Named Tic Tac by its rescuers, the dog was found near a reserve outside of Regina on Friday evening, according to cbc.ca. Caillin Rodonets, co-founder, and director at CC RezQs Regina explains that she received a frantic text from a volunteer about the puppy, who was covered in ticks, lethargic and unable to stand.

Credit: CC RezQs Regina/Facebook

Rodonets explained to the news site that their immediate goal was to get the dog to a clinic.

“If we can at least get it to the vet, it increases its chances of survival by 10-fold,” she said. Volunteers took Tic Tac to the TM’z Vet Clinic, where veterinarians determined the pup had more than 300 fully engorged ticks and about 400 small ticks. The poor thing was also covered in fecal matter and bugs.

Credit: CC RezQs Regina/Facebook

Rodonets explained that rather than returning home to their families, veterinary staff and animal rescuers spent four hours pulling ticks off of Tic Tac and shaving the puppy’s coat.

When they were finally done, Tic Tac’s tiny, weak body was revealed and she was found to weigh less than four kilograms.

Credit: CC RezQs Regina/Facebook

Dr. Tanya Marshall from TM’z Vet Clinic ran blood work and found Tic Tac’s red blood cell count to be extremely low, which required an urgent blood transfusion. Marshall determined that the 12-week-old puppy would have died of blood loss if it wasn’t found.

“This by far one of the worst cases we’ve ever had,” said Rodonets. “It’s the first case we’ve ever done a blood transfusion on a dog in a rescue.” Marshall’s own dog Kelso was the donor and it laid still for 20 minutes as a transfusion bag filled for Tic Tac.

Credit: CC RezQs Regina/Facebook

Within one hour, Tic Tac’s gray gums developed color, and she began to want food. The following morning she was in great shape and she was wagging her tail. “She, being nearly lifeless when she came in, was a completely different dog,” said Rodonets.

“She’s adorable and she’s doing very, very well,” said Marshall. Tic Tac also required antibiotics along with treatment for anemia.

Couple Who Can’t Say ‘No’ Has Fostered Over 630 Kids

For almost 40 years, one California couple has opened their hearts and home to more than 630 foster children and has no plans of stopping even after all these years.

Raelene MacDowell and her husband, Ted, were married in 1964 and had three children in the years after. Despite having their hands full, they both agreed that they wanted to become foster parents to children in need. “We decided that taking care of other people’s babies while they get themselves help or treatment is what we wanted to do,” MacDowell said.

The couple took in their first foster child in 1978 and ended up taking in hundreds of children, some of which stayed in their care for days while others stayed for years, since they couldn’t bear to turn a child away. “Somebody has to make a difference to the kids. Grown-ups make their own messes and they need to clean them up, but kids don’t have anyone to do that for them,” MacDowell said. “I feel that every child I come in contact with, I want that child to understand what it means to be cherished; not just cared for, diapered, fed, loved, but actually cherished.”

“That’s my mantra. I think every child in the world deserves the right to be cherished by at least one person. We endeavor to do that and make sure that they feel like they’re the most important person in our lives at that moment.” The couple ended up adopted seven of those foster children, but had to stop fostering children when MacDowell got a job in 1999 with Social Services to mentor foster parents and others who want to adopt.

Recently, however, the mother of ten, grandmother of 28, and great-grandmother of five retired from the position, and just a week later they welcomed a new baby into their home. “She is a rather unique and amazing woman. As a foster parent, she really never turned away a kid,” said Dianna Wagner, the director of Shasta County’s children’s services agency. “That wasn’t our plan,” MacDowell said. “But it just fell in our lap. And how do I say, no?”

“She wears her heart on her sleeve and she always finds the positive in any situation,” Wagner said. “She has the ability to see the best in people, which I think why, prior to us, she was able to take children into her home to care for them as long as they needed that place with her.

An incredible rescue organization in India, Animal Aid Unlimited, received a call to rescue a very old, injured and confused street dog.

When they spotted the dog, they saw she had a very infected wound on her back and as she walked the streets, she seemed to be walking almost in a daze. When rescuers brought the dog back to animal aid, they started her on IV fluids to treat her severe dehydration.

Credit: Animal Aid Unlimited, India- YouTube

First, they shaved the matted fur around the wound and then removed the maggots that caused the wounds to be so large. “After struggling to stay alive with such a painful wound, she was completely exhausted,” Animal Aid Unlimited, India, wrote on their YouTube channel

“She was such an old and fragile girl, that Edith needed a little extra time to eat, to heal, and to regain her strength. And we gave her all the time she needed,” Animal Aid continued.

Besides Edith, Animal Aid Unlimited has done an incredible job in investing all their resources, including medical expenses and love and care into animals in need. Most of these wounds animals would have died on the street if it wasn’t for Animal Aid coming to their rescue.

Animal Rescue, Animal Aid Unlimited, India, received a call about a street dog suffering from advanced mange.

When Animal Aid arrived to find the dog, it was clear she was in need of urgent help. Flies swarmed around the scabs covering her neck, causing her skin to look like barnacles. Rescuers grabbed a net and trapped the dog, as they knew it was the only way to prevent the animal from running away.

Once she arrived at Animal Aid, the exhausted girl rested for a few minutes as she had been through so much. Her scabs were causing her extreme pain, but now that she was in the care of expert medical staff, her pain would soon be gone.

Doctors gave the dog her first of many treatments to cure the mange, and they applied a medicated lotion to help soften her painful scabs. Within a few days, the scabs were gone and the sweet dog received her first bath.

Slowly, but surely, this loving girl was beginning to transform. She finally enjoyed a nice meal, which was a lot different than the food she was used to picking up off the street.

Animal Aid Unlimited shared on their YouTube, “When we rescued her, she looked like an old and dying dog. Now she has recovered from mange, she has been spayed, vaccinated, and each step of the way, loved.” Rescuers named her Cherry and you won’t believe it when you see Cherry today.

One California doctor has delivered hundreds of babies over the course of her career, but of all the babies she’s delivered, the one she delivered earlier this month was the most precious since it was her own daughter.

After giving birth to her first child at home, Doctor Victoria Williams decided that the second time around she wanted to be at the hospital in the good hands of her co-workers. So when her water broke at home on May 2, her husband quickly gathered her things and they head straight to the hospital.

“We didn’t dilly-dally at home,” Williams said. “We didn’t take our time. We left within 20 minutes. But we weren’t expecting 20 minutes later to have a baby.” While on the way to the hospital, they got stuck in rush hour traffic that was so bad that they couldn’t even pull off into the shoulder when it became clear they weren’t going to make to the hospital in time.

After just 15 minutes on the road, Williams had to deliver baby Kainoa all by herself since her husband was still driving the car, and when everyone heard what happened, no one could believe Williams managed to do it all on her own. “I got to put my own name on the birth certificate as delivering physician which was pretty cool,” Williams said.

Smail says Grecco was lying down in the woods when they found him and Smail introduced herself and notified Game Wardens.

Greeco told Smail he was playing dead because thought her dog Tala was a fox and he was frightened. Smail says Grecco was wet, tired and starving, but otherwise, he was alright.

Hero Reunited With The ‘Little Girl’ He Saved During Hurricane Katrina

Normally, when rescue personnel save the lives of civilians in emergency situations, they never wind up seeing each other again.

This was not the case however for Master Sergeant Mike Maroney of the U.S. Air Force and LaShay Brown, the ‘little’ girl Maroney picked up with her family from the waters of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Air Force Airwoman, Veronica Pierce captured the moment LaShay gave her rescuer the biggest hug that he would never forget. The award-winning photo circled the globe and touched hearts around the world.

Maroney, who was battling PTSD at the time, carried the photo with him on difficult deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, to remind him of one of the most special moments in his life.

Eventually, Maroney decided to try and find the little girl who changed his life and even launched a #FindKatrinaGirl campaign on social media.

Finally, 10 years later, Maroney and LaShay were reunited on the set of The Real in September 2015. During their reunion, Maroney told LaShay, “You rescued me more than I rescued you.”

The two also did not end their newfound friendship there. Since being reunited in 2015, Maroney has visited the Brown family in Mississippi (even teaching LaShay how to swim) and has spoken to her on the phone weekly.

The support Maroney has shown to LaShay has encouraged her to join the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), a pre-training program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces at Bay High School in Waveland, Mississippi.

LaShay tells PEOPLE: “It was very interesting and a challenge, and because I had never done it before. I knew if I joined I would have help from Mike along the way if I needed it, or was confused about anything.”

This Saturday, Maroney and his family will again visit the Browns, as 14-year-old LaShay is bringing Maroney to her JROTC ball. “I’m going because I would do anything to repay the hug to LaShay and her family. They mean as much to me as my own,” Maroney says.

LaShay plans to join the military one day but she hasn’t decided which branch yet.

“I am proud of her no matter what she does and will support her in everything she does,” Maroney says. “I think she understands service and I believe that she will do great things no matter what she chooses.”
