Dad Frees Trapped Wife In Labor From Home

Usually, when expecting moms go into labor, they jump in the car and head straight to the hospital. However, when one Atlanta mom’s water broke, she was trapped inside her home after a tree fell on it during a storm.

Heather and Mehrvarz Yavaliollah thought they still had about a month before their twins would be born, which is why they decided to wait until after Hurricane Irma passed to clean up a tree that fell on their home. “Everything looked fine and we were not expecting anything to happen and then Irma came along and changed all of that,” Heather said.

However, the next day, Heather’s water broke but she was trapped inside the house and had no way of getting to the hospital. Her husband, Mehrvarz, climbed out, grabbed a chainsaw from their shed, and started hacking away at the tree himself.

“My wonderful neighbors saw me outside, they kind of knew the situation so they started grabbing limbs as I was cutting them off and helped move them to the street, so very thankful to them,” said Mehrvarz. With their help, Mehrvarz managed to clear a path and rushed Heather to Piedmont Hospital where she gave birth to two healthy boys.

“Sweet little angels, so Irma was no indication of their behavior,” Heather said.

After working all weekend making sure protests around St. Louis, Missouri stayed safe, two police officers were wary when they noticed a man lingering around an empty bus terminal.

Sergeant Howard Marshall and his partner, Officer Abenet Carper, from the St. Louis Police Department noticed the man standing alone, but before they went over to see what he was up to, the man started walking over to them. “He asked if either of us knew how to tie a tie because he had a job interview,” Marshall said.

“He didn’t know how to tie a tie,” Marshall said. “I said, ‘Absolutely.'” Marshall wrapped the tie around his own neck, tied it loosely, then helped Hatcher tighten it. “I thought it was neat,” Carper said. “We always want to have that interaction with the community.”

“It’s good to see they can come to us and ask us for help anytime they need to,” Carper added. “He approached us and it took a lot of strength and courage,” Marshall said about the man, Willie Hatcher, who got the job. “After dealing with [the demonstrations] all weekend, I was tense and everything. It was such an awesome feeling he trusted us.”

When one California father lost his wallet, he and his wife were sure they’d never see it again since it held all of his credit cards and was crammed with cash.

What the couple didn’t realize, was that the wallet was laying near the sidewalk in front of their home. When 18-year-old Tyler Opdyke walked by, he knew he could easily walk away with the $1,5oo in cash but knew it would be wrong to keep it.

“It was not a hard decision because this could be somebody’s rent money and wasn’t mine to keep,” said Tyler.  “God bless this young man’s heart,” homeowner Melissa Vang said. “This gentleman picked it up and left it at our doorstep after waiting for a few minutes because I wouldn’t open the door (for strangers).”

“I later found him. Thanked and rewarded him for his kind gesture,” Vang said. “We hear so many terrible news and barely any good. I think we all need to be reminded that there are still good people out there. His act of kindness cannot go unrecognized.”

18 years ago one Florida mom made the agonizing decision to give her son up for adoption and has been carrying the weight of that decision ever since.

Tammy Oswalt was raising two young daughters as single mom on the verge of homelessness when she gave birth to her son. Soon after he was born, she decided to give him up for adoption because she knew she couldn’t’ give him the life she wanted for him.

“A mom doesn’t give up her child like a sack of potatoes,” Oswalt said. “All I could give him was love and sometimes that’s not enough. I had to make the decision to give him up because I did love him.” Oswalt knew it was the best thing she could do for her son, but the thought of never seeing him again nearly broke her. I tried to commit suicide,” Oswalt said. “The emotional guilt and loss overwhelmed me.”

Eventually, Oswalt fought the severe depression for the sake of her two daughters, but the pain of giving away her son never went away no matter how much time passed. About a year ago, however, Oswalt’s son, Dylan, found his biological sister, Sammy Hewett, online and the two secretly spoke for months.

When Dylan was finally ready to meet his mom, Hewett organized a surprise reunion on Oswalt’s birthday in September. “As soon as she said, ‘Meet your son, Dylan,’ I broke,” Oswalt said of the emotional surprise. “I waited almost 19 years for this moment and all I could do was say, ‘Oh my God, I love you. You’re beautiful.'”

“I feel so complete now,” said Oswalt, who is now working to build a relationship with her son. “Everything I ever wanted, I now have. I’ve got what matters and that’s family.”

“Hundreds of Army missions depend on these helicopters. And my brother must make sure that all of them are safe and ready to fly,” Damon wrote in his essay, which he read in front of his school during an assembly. “My brother is brave and smart. He is always there for me, even if I just want to talk.”

Woman Rescues Puppy Trapped In Car Engine

While walking into a local drugstore, one North Carolina woman heard a strange noise coming from a parked car that made her stop everything to investigate.

“There’s no mistaking that little puppy whine,” said Robin Haas, who had stopped at a local Walgreens to get some makeup before an interview with a TV station about the female welding program that she teaches at the Surry Community College.

The noise was coming from another parked car, and as she got closer, Haas realized the animal was stuck somewhere under the hood of the car. “She started to hear me talk and she got loud,” said Haas, who called a colleague, Caleb Costner, for help. “I didn’t believe it at first. I didn’t even see it in there, but Robin told me it was down there,” Costner said.

With the owner’s help, Haas and Costner removed the car’s battery and battery box and eventually found the tiny puppy trapped inside. “You got the serpentine belt right there on the motor. It’s tail, it’s leg or anything could have gotten pulled into the belt,” Costner said.

Miraculously, the puppy survived the ride and was completely unharmed. “She said it was a 45-minute drive for her, so that puppy was in that engine compartment for 45 minutes,” said Haas, who then took the puppy to class with her for the rest of the day.

“Ms. Haas came in holding her this morning and she was all covered in grease and shaken and scared and I fell in love,” said student Michelle Kirkman, who has adopted the puppy they named Excalibur after the brand of welding rods used in class.

Man Returns Reward To Family After Finding Kidnapped Girl

After leaving for work, one Minnesota man realized he forgot something at home and had to turn around. As he drove home to his farm, he saw what he thought was a deer in his field.

However, as 65-year-old Earl Melchert got closer, he realized it was actually a teenage girl that appeared to be exhausted and in distress. The girl turned out to be 15-year-old Jasmine Block, who had been missing since early August, so he immediately called the police and brought her to safety.

Jasmine told police that she had been lured out of her home by a family acquaintance, Thomas Barker, and had been held captive by him and two other men. During the time, they attacked and sexually assaulted her. “I was usually in a closet and I usually stayed quiet because I was scared they might hit me or do something,” Jasmine said.

Almost a month after being kidnapped, Jasmine escaped when they left her alone for the first time to get food. The three men have since been charged with charges ranging from kidnapping and false imprisonment to first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

This past Friday, Alexandria Police Department Chief Rick Wyffels presented Melchert with the $7,000 reward, which was donated by the girl’s family and an anonymous donor. “What no one expected was the kindness and generosity that came straight from Earl’s heart today,” Wyffels said.

“He believes that young lady that came running towards him that September day is the real hero and without hesitation, Earl handed the reward over to her, followed by a big hug. Thank you Earl, it is people like you that make this world a better place,” Wyffels added. “It’s the best thing I’ve ever done,” Melchert said.

After what seemed like a never-ending battle to adopt three of their foster children, one Utah couple was thrilled when they found out the adoption had finally been approved.

“A dear family I know has been fighting for as long as I can remember to adopt 3 of their foster children that attend our school,” said Jackie Alexander, the office manager at the school. “It’s been hard to watch them fight this emotional battle.”

The minute the couple found out the incredible news, they called Alexander right away and asked her to share the news with her new daughter, Tannah Butterfield. “She knew she would want to know right away because she had been so worried. I don’t think even I could understand myself what that moment would feel like. Our security cameras caught the moment perfectly,” Alexander wrote in a post on Instagram. “In 12 years at this job, this is by far my best moment ever!! To tell a little girl that she gets her family forever takes the cake.”

“She just kept holding me tight, she kept holding me tighter and tighter,” Alexander said about the moment that the sixth-grader describes as ‘the best thing that’s ever happened to me.’ “This is pure testament that in a world full of turmoil and strife, there is still light and joy to be found in little everyday moments,” Alexander added.

When one California couple woke up in the middle of the night, they discovered their home had caught fire when a deadly wildfire spread to their neighborhood.

68-year-old Clint Weaver and 62-year-old Kathy Weaver had no choice but to abandon everything they had worked so hard for all their lives in order to survive. “My parents woke up with flames surrounding their house in Wikiup Bridgeway and had seconds to get out,” the couple’s daughter, Beckyjean Widen, wrote in a Facebook post.

“When she opened the car door, Izzy bolted into the darkness, so she was just gone,” Jack Weaver, the couple’s son, said. “She screamed for Izzy, but at that point, the flames were 30-feet tall, and they jumped in their car and went down the hill. They barely made it out.”

They lost everything, but my mom was most devastated about leaving Izzy.” Once it was safe to return to the area the next day, Jack returned to take a video so he could show his parents the state of their home and to look for any signs of the 9-year-old Bernese mountain dog.

“We didn’t believe (Izzy) would’ve survived,” Jack said. However, while walking around the property, Izzy came running out to greet them. “Izzy came bounding out. I was happy and shocked. Less than a year after getting married, one North Carolina woman had to say goodbye to her new husband when he was deployed with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.

Shortly after Chris Harris was deployed, his wife, Britt, discovered she was pregnant with their first child. To break the news, Britt decorated a onesie and showed it and the pregnancy tests she took to Harris during a call on FaceTime. “When I told him, it was the happiest I’d ever seen him,” Britt said. “He was so excited.”

However, just a week later, Harris was killed in the line of duty by an IED. Despite everything Britt is going through, she couldn’t help but worry about how his army family was coping. “I’m dealing with a lot and grieving but I got to take off work and go to counseling, but they didn’t get to,” Britt said. “I didn’t want them to be forgotten over there.”

“Chris is an only child. They were his family. Everyone that I’ve met, before Chris passed and after, if they’re in the military, they’ve treated me like actual family or royalty, actually,” said Britt. “I asked if they’d like to be the first to know the gender and they were really excited. I told them I would ship confetti poppers or something and they could be the first to know and feel included.”

The soldiers filmed themselves opening the poppers, which exploded with pink confetti, and shared the footage online with Britt. “August 2 2017 Chris Harris laid down his life for our country. His newlywed wife was expecting their first child,” one of the soldiers, Joel Crunk, wrote. “The reveal is in Afghanistan with the men who fought by his side. We are happy to welcome the new member of our company.”

“I probably watched it 100 times myself,” Britt said. “I was crying but smiling because their reaction was so wonderful.”

Groomer Saves Neglected Dog Found Covered In Matted Fur

When a Florida groomer saw pictures on social media of an abandoned dog that had been found on the side of the road, she knew it needed immediate care.

Even though it was nearly midnight, Kari Falla, owner of BGE Grooming, offered to open up her shop to care for the dog since he was covered in severely matted fur. “They said they found it on the side of the road and it almost got hit by a car,” Falla said. “They couldn’t keep it for the night and the woman was looking for someone who could.”

“They arrived at my shop at midnight and it took three hours to groom him. A normal groom only takes an hour-and-a-half,” Falla said. “When a dog is matted that badly, it can cause its blood flow to stop as well as bruising to the dog.” The poor dog was soaking wet, covered in fleas and infections, and the matted fur was so thick he couldn’t even go to the bathroom.

“I could tell he’d been that way for a few years from the pictures. You could tell it was extreme neglect,” Falla said. “I knew it was bad, but nothing prepared me for what I saw. It smelled like death and the dog could not walk. They had to carry it.”

“It made me cry,” Falla said. Despite everything the dog had been through, he trusted the groomers instantly. “The dog was perfect for me when I was grooming him. It’s like he knew I was helping him. Once we shaved him, he was wagging his tail and was so happy. I knew I did the right thing.”

The 4-year-old dog, which they named Lucky, was taken to the vet for further treatment the following day and has since been placed with a foster family while officials search for his original owner. “We believe in paying it forward. Sharing a little bit of kindness goes a lot way. And in this case, it saved a life,” Falla added.

Heroic Dog Leads Neighbor To Trapped Pet

Like most dogs whose homes are situated on large plots of land, one New Zealand dog regularly went off exploring through the farmland around his home for hours at a time.

But as Louie, a sheepdog rescued from a shelter when he was just a puppy, got older, his excursions got shorter and shorter. Now that Louie is 12 years old, he chooses to stay close to home and hardly ever goes out exploring anymore, which is why his family was so worried when he recently disappeared and didn’t return home.

“My mother was a little grumpy as she had thought he had stopped his wandering,” said Marolyn Diver, whose parents own Louise. “We worried he might forget where his home was.” But thankfully, Louie turned up at the house a few hours later. “He looked so exhausted and had basically just collapsed,” Marolyn said. “We were concerned someone might have hurt him. But then they realized there was a note attached to Louie’s collar. “After reading the note I felt complete and utter relief, then my heart melted.”

Nanny Jumps In Front Of Car About To Hit 2-Year-Old

Leaving a child with a nanny or a babysitter can be incredibly difficult for parents since they have no idea how well their child is being cared for when they’re not around.

“As a mom, you give your kid to somebody else … your hope and your dream is that they’re going to treat your kid like their own,” said California mom, Courtney Davis. But recently, Davis and her husband, Bill Wolkoff, found out that their long-time nanny is not only a loving caregiver but also incredibly brave and protective.

Last March, Caroline Maurer took 2-year-old Fox, who she had been nannying since he was just four months old, for a walk around the block from his home. As they began crossing an empty intersection, a car sped through a  stop sign and was headed straight for Fox. “It was going to be him hit since he was kind of more in front of me. So, as the car turned in – I was screaming, ‘Stop! Stop!’ – and pushed him as hard as I could to get him out of the way,” said Maurer, who sacrificed herself by jumping in the way.

“The car came and crushed my hands, the front bumper – and I was thrown a few feet, I don’t know,” Maurer said about the traumatic moment she was hit. “Fox was strapped in and I couldn’t get him out because my hands were crushed and I was on the ground.” Maurier was rushed to the hospital where doctors determined the bones in her arms, wrists, and hands were fractured.

Because of her bravery, Fox miraculously escaped with just a few scrapes and bruises. “One of the paramedics on the scene told me that Caroline had saved Fox’s life,” Davis and Wolkoff wrote on a YouCaring page they set up to raise money for Maurier since she can’t work or go to school and has to go to physical therapy since her hands may never fully recover.

“I’m just so grateful to her,” Davis said. “I think my first reaction was: She’s family for the rest of our lives,” Wolkoff added. “Because of Caroline, the worst didn’t happen. She saved his life.”

Man Runs Marathon With His Doctor And Man That Paralyzed Him

Last September, a 52-year-old North Carolina man had no idea that when he went out for a bike ride near his home, his life would never be the same.

While Dean Otto was riding his bike, Will Huffman accidentally hit the long-distance runner because his windshield was too foggy to see. Otto was rushed to the hospital, where surgeon Matt McGird explained that not only was his spine in pieces, but his pelvis, tailbone, ribs, and leg were broken as well. Otto was told he had about a 2 percent chance of ever walking.

Yet Otto refused to accept he would never walk or run again. “I’ll run a half marathon with you and I’ll whip ya,” Otto told McGird. During surgery, McGird built a spinal scaffolding with titanium rods and metal ties under Otto’s skin, and then he began his long road to recovery.

But a year later, Otto amazed everyone when he crossed the finish line of the 13-mile Napa Half Marathon with McGird and Huffman, who became a friend after he visited Otto as he recovered in the hospital. “It was great; It was amazing. The whole town was really behind us. I felt such a huge sense of accomplishment. I felt like Matt and I did what we said we were going to do after the surgery,” Otto said.

“I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m just part of a plan. I’m doing what is put in front of me. I found out how many people loved me, lying in that hospital room,” Otto added. “You don’t get to see that in life. You might get that kind of crowd at your funeral, but you’re dead and you won’t hear it.”

Cop Uses A Jack To Rescue Boy Trapped Underneath Car

One Kentucky police officer likes to be prepared for anything that comes his way, which is why he carries around tools he’s not even required to have as a deputy.

So when Deputy Ryan Strange from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office was the first to arrive at the scene after a 15-year-old boy was struck by a car while he was skateboarding and lodged underneath, he didn’t have to wait for other first responders to arrive since he had a car jack, which he always carries in case he needs to help someone change a tire.

“He was totally out of it. His right arm was caught up behind his back. It was basically touching his left shoulder,” said Deputy Strange. “I started jacking that car up to get the pressure off of him. Once we released that, the initial pressure was off of him, we still couldn’t pull him out.”

As Strange worked to free the boy, the Hebron Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services arrived to help. “After watching the video, you see the fire department is getting there as he gets it jacked up and everybody in this effort kind of pushes the car up a little bit and pulls him and gets him out,” said Major Tom Scheben, the spokesman for the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are caring people and we will help you,” said Deputy Strange.

For the past 65 years, one Minnesota man has been walking around his neighborhood sometimes twice a day as part of his daily exercise routine.

“My wife said years ago I just – I’m antsy. I can’t sit still so maybe that’s another reason I’m walking,” said Harvye Djerf, a World War II veteran and retired biology teacher. As Djerf got older, he stuck to his routine but started taking some rests in the middle of his route.

“As I got older, I stop and rest more often and the neighbors have noticed Harvey’s stopping and taking his breath so then they’ve been putting out different chairs and inviting me to sit and take a rest,” the 95-year-old said. Now, the almost mile-long route is spotted with chairs.

“It’s a wonderful experience and it’s a social experience and I get to know the neighbors and they get to know me,” Djerf added. “They say when they see Harvey go by twice a day, they figured they should get out and walk themselves. So maybe I’m having a good effect on some people.”

Doctor Drove Through Wildfire To Save Preemie Babies

One California doctor cares so much about his patients that he actually risked his life to save eight premature babies during a deadly wildfire.

During the early hours of October 9th, Dr. Scott Witt was at home with his family when he received a call from the hospital he works at notifying him that they were going to evacuate the patients because a deadly wildfire was spreading. “I got called at 2 a.m. because the flames were getting close enough to the hospital so the staff thought that we’d have to evacuate,” said Dr. Witt, the medical director for the newborn intensive care unit at Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital.

Since the entire area was being evacuated, Witt sent his wife and their four children to safety at a nearby church but decided to head to the hospital since he needed to make sure his patients were safe. “The only way I could was to get on my motorcycle,” said Witt, who failed to get to the hospital in his truck since the parts of the roads were closed off or impassable in big vehicles. “I had to skirt around where the fire had spread to,” he said.

By the time he arrived, the fire was encroaching on the parking lot. “The intensive care unit already smelled with a lot of smoke and I wanted to move everybody to a parking lot without any fire in it,” Witt said. With the hospital staff’s help, Witt managed to evacuate all eight preemie babies into an ambulance that rushed them to a nearby hospital.

Even though Witt had done more than enough, he decided to follow the ambulance onto the debris-ridden freeway to make sure the babies made it to the hospital. “At one point, there was some live wire on the freeway,” Witt said. “After going on the freeway, I said to the ambulance driver, ‘I don’t know if it’s the most scary thing I’ve done but close to it.'”

After seeing the babies to safety, Witt then back to check on his home, which was burned to the ground by the time he got back. “It was totally burned down,” said Witt, who is grateful his family was unharmed. “We didn’t have any injuries, we were just happy to be together in faith.”

Now, Witt is being hailed a hero for his bravery, but he insists he just did what he felt was right. “I feel like these babies are like my own babies,” Witt said. “I just wanted to make sure I was there to help them,” he said.
