It’s been well documented for a long time that those cute puppies you see in pet store windows usually have a very dark puppy mill past.

Sadly, many of these animals are likely the result of inhumane breeding practices and were born of parents who were subjected to unimaginable, causing them a plethora of health problems.

However, it’s not too often we hear about pet suppliers as terrible as the one in the following video.

Sergeant Matthew Whalen spent his adult life serving others as a father and as a soldier in the U.S. Army. And now, in his final moment, Whalen has found a way to serve two more people.

The 35-year-old served in Afghanistan and Iraq for a total of five years, yet passed away this December of a brain hemorrhage. His family finally made the impossible decision to withdraw his life support, and donate two of his organs to two veterans in need.

“In his final act on this Earth, it’s only fitting that he gave his life and in return saved two others,” Whalen’s friend and fellow soldier Sean Hatton Wrote to Facebook. “And it’s almost as if it were meant to be that the two donor recipients happened to be veterans.”

After Whalen’s wife Hannah, and their small children were left behind, the family set up a Go Fund Me page to help with the financial burden. So far, the donations have exceeded their $50,000 goal by over $30,000.

Powerful Wedding Tradition Moves New Bride To Tears

New bride Aaliyah Armstrong got more than she was expecting at her wedding in Auckland, New Zealand last week.

Aaliyah and her new husband Benjamin Armstrong were “blown away” by a performance their groomsmen and guests danced to, in New Zealand’s traditional Maori style.

It’s called the haka, and it involves shouting, body-slapping and exaggerated facial expressions. “It is used in traditional Maori culture as a war cry to intimidate the enemy, but also to welcome special guests and at celebrations,” says BBC.

In the video below, the bride and groom teared up while watching the heartfelt performance their guests surprised them with, before joining in themselves.

Aaliyah says the haka was a sign of respect from her husband’s best man and family not, as some have commented online, an attempt to intimidate him. “They are quite strong, the men in their family,” she said.

And although women do not normally perform the haka in Maori culture, what prompted Aaliyah to join in was when her bridesmaid did.

“I wasn’t planning on jumping in until one bridesmaid did,” said Mrs. Armstrong. “I felt the need to show love and respect back. I was really blown away.”

When Lewis Whaitiri, a chairman of the London-based Maori Club, was asked why he thought the haka was loved so much, he said:

“When you’re doing the Haka the whole purpose of it is to get some sort of feeling in the person you are doing the Haka to, as well as yourself. It’s about moving people, that’s what it is.”

HT_niamh_geaney_irene_adams_doppelgangers_2_jt_160121_4x3_992

I’ve always found the idea of everyone having a doppelgänger both fascinating and completely frightening.

With billions of people walking around this great, big planet, chances are pretty good that a few of them look very similar. But can you imagine walking past someone on the street or finding someone on the internet who bears an unbelievable resemblance to you?

That’s exactly what happened to 27-year-old Niamh Geaney of Dublin, Ireland, when she came across a woman who seemed like her long lost identical twin on social media last year. Geaney started the doppelgänger-matching website and program TwinStrangers.net and was shocked to find how many lookalikes are out there, including her own.

[Twin Strangers]
[Twin Strangers]
Since then, Geaney has discovered two more women, similar in age, who look eerily similar to her. Most recently, Geaney was matched with fellow Irish woman Irene Adams of County Sligo and the identical strangers decided to dig a little deeper into the strange coincidence.

Any little kid would love for their room to be ripped out of the pages of a Disney fairy tale, so when this loving dad’s little girl wanted a place where she could sit and read books, as well as climb up top to a cozy sitting area, he happily went to work.

The project lasted over 18 months, and required a total of 350 hours and $4,250 to complete, but this dad managed to completely transform his daughter’s boring room into a room full of magic.

This dad, who goes by ‘Radamshome‘ on Reddit, is an artist in the video game industry, and put his creative skills to good work when creating the concept for the plain room out of a drawing and scale model.

Yet even with his artistic background, Radamshome had no idea how intense the project would be. “I was kind of un-prepared for the physical realities of this project. I used Disney set-design as my inspiration. Even though it was difficult, I learned a huge amount along the way,” he said.

In order to make sure the tree was strong enough for his daughter, he took a welding course, covered the tree in a wire mesh, and then covered the tree in cement.

While the tree only needs to hold the weight of a few kids, Radamshome made sure the tree could support three grown adults at once.

At the end of the 18-month project, this lucky little girl had a bedroom fit for a fairy with her own personal reading tree with branches, leaves, glimmering lights, and cute woodland creatures.

Did you know that there are so many homeless, abandoned dogs living in the United States that it is impossible to even count them?

To say strays in the U.S. are a problem would be an understatement. Between the number of dogs on the street or in the wild and overcrowded, unsanitary high-kill shelters, our country has a true epidemic on its hands, especially in places like Detroit, Michigan, where outdoor dogs often can’t survive in the freezing cold winters.

Thankfully, there are a ton of dedicated animal angels out there, committed to helping get every single one of these creatures out from the cold and into the homes of loving families.

At the non-profit canine rescue organization Hope For Paws, Eldad Hagar and his team of heroes travel around the Los Angeles County area, a place where sick strays run rampant, rescuing all the dogs they can.

Most of them are in terrible shape when they’re found, but Venus, the white German Shepherd in the following video, might have been one of the most frightening rescues of all.

Venus had been wandering around in the hot, lifeless desert for an unknown amount of time before the Hope For Paws heroes came to her rescue, but after a few weeks and a lot of love, she was unrecognizable.

When Her Son Was Being Bullied At School, This Mom Shocked Them With The Truth

Hearing that your child is getting harassed and teased at school is a nightmare for aNY mother, but for one Connecticut mom, hearing her son was being bullied was unbearable. Mary Ann Parisi adopted her son Michael as a baby who had been born severely premature, and has since faced countless hardships.

“My son is a love muffin. No anger. He doesn’t want anyone to get in trouble, he’s willing to take it,” Mary Ann told ABC News. “It’s a hard line to walk because your initial reaction is to lash out because you want to protect your son, but that’s not the way to go about it.”

Instead, she decided to write a Facebook post explaining some of the issues Michael has faced to remind people to teach their children be kind to one another since you never know what’s really going on with someone.

In her inspiring post, Mary Ann wrote:

“Michael was born at 26 weeks. Just over 3 months premature. I am not his bio mom. But in every other way, I am his mother. He spent the first 3 months of his life fighting to survive. Shunts, blood transfusions, etc. His mother left him 3 months later. He has survived failure to thrive and numerous other health issues to become the strong, healthy boy he is.”

“He didn’t learn to talk till he was 3 years old. Walking was very delayed. He didn’t have teeth till after his first birthday. He was so very behind. But he loved. Oh how he loved. To this day, his smile is the best thing ever. There is not one person he doesn’t like/love, including those who tormented him today.”

“He forgives and honestly, he forgets too. There is not one judgemental bone in his body. I strive to be more like him daily but fall very short. You called him brace face today, before you were picking on him because of his eating habits. Did you know he physically can not control the food staying in his mouth. Or how very bad his hand/eye coordination is. Those braces are just one of the many steps he will endure, to help align his lower jaw that never fully developed. So he doesn’t spill his food or chew weirdly anymore. So you won’t pick on him.”

“Kicking his chair, calling him stupid, ugly, brace face, bucky beaver. Telling him to sit down and shut up is not the way. You don’t have to like him, but you do have to respect him. He’s a fighter, that’s a very small portion of his story. Share, teach, grow. Most importantly respect those around, you never know what they have been through.”

Can you believe what this mother had to do to quiet her son’s bullies? Let us know what you think of her post in the comments below, and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Since Eva Armstrong was seven years old, she has always wanted to work with dogs, but that dream got sidetracked by her ambitions to make a lot of money working on Wall Street.

Eventually, however, all the money in the world lost its appeal and she knew she wasn’t doing what she was meant to. “I’ve always been a little bit of a work-a-holic. I was like ‘I’m going to go work on Wall Street. I’m going to make a lot of money.’ And then I was like ‘Oh my god, this is just miserable. I don’t want to do this.’ I don’t care about all the money in the world.”

Instead, Eva started Eva’s Play Pups, a countryside dog camp in 2002 for rescue dogs and dogs in kill shelters to stay until getting adopted, as well as give pet owners a loving place to leave their dogs while away on trips.

Instead of sitting all day in a cage without any attention, Eva showers every dog with affection and keeps them active all day long. “We hike, we swim, we kayak. they’re so relaxed here. You know, I get to see them at their best,” Eva explained.

For Eva, the worst part of the job is having to leave behind a dog. “We all have faces we still remember at this point that we left behind, and that’s the awful part of what we do. But, if we don’t do that, then we can’t save anyone so you just have to power through,” Eva explained tearfully.

Despite the pain that it’s caused her, Eva knows she is making a difference for lots of dogs in need and would never want to do anything else with her life. “Being with dogs and doing what I do is definitely my calling I feel like I get dogs, and I feel like dogs know that I get them,” she said.

An Ohio man has been arrested after attempting to pull off an evil plan that only a true monster could come up with.

As reported by Cincinnati’s Fox 19, Jason Dotson’s was ordered by a court to have his pit bull mix euthanized after the dog viciously attacked an elderly neighbor’s service dog last October.

Every pet parent knows how heartbreaking this must be, but instead of following the court’s orders, Dotson went ahead and came up with a maniacal plan to save his dog from being killed.

According to WWMT, Dotson visited his local ASPCA and found a puppy named Baby who looked very much like his black and white pit bull.

When the time came to have his dog euthanized, Dotson attempted to pass off the innocent pup as his dangerous dog, but luckily the ASPCA staff recognized Baby and put an end to the evil plot.

“In my 10 years as a judge I can’t recall a more cold and heartless act,” Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Brad Greenberg said in court before sentencing Dotson 30 days in jail, according to Cincinnati.com.

3-Year-Old Girl Sings A Rendition Of ‘The Little Mermaid’ And Nails It

A Utah father found a creative way to spend time with his daughter by filming her doing what she loves — singing.

Claire Crosby, who is only three-years-old, is quickly climbing her way up the Youtube ladder. She made her YouTube debut on Jan. 9 singing “Part of Your World,” a sing we all know and love from The Little Mermaid.

Father Dave Crosby came up with the idea when he took his car in for an oil change. Claire was with him and as they stood in a long line, she began singing. Her father noticed people liking the way Claire sang and a few even recorded her on their phones.

With this, an idea had sprung into Dave’s mind, and it seems to have stuck. Not only does this adorable video show the two having some quality father-daughter time, it also shows them making great music:

“I thought starting a YouTube channel with her would be something that we could do together to kind of get away from the craziness of everyday life,” Crosby said. “She says she wants to do ‘Let It Go’ from ‘Frozen’ next, but that one is already so overdone. I am trying to talk her out of it. We will have to see who wins that argument.”

Erica Andrews is a woman who knows no shame.

Less than a day later, she took this intimate and brutally honest photo of herself breastfeeding her child while wearing an adult diaper.

Erica says it was a result of feeling all the emotions of postpartum. Because she didn’t know if her body would ever harbor life again, she wanted to capture the raw intimacy of the moment before it dissipated.

After posting the photo to Instagram, it made its way to Facebook, where it has been shared over 40,000 times.

Erica says about her immediate postpartum: “My body feels like it ran a marathon and my heart is wide open from yesterday’s travels.

Birth opens us like an earthquake opens the earth and I am still in the intimate, fragile throes of that opening. I feel raw. Emotional. Different. I feel like I’m on the undulating surface of the rippling ocean being tossed back and forth between happiness, gratitude, melancholy, and grief.

23 hours ago I held life within and 24 hours ago I surged and transformed allowing life to flow through me, into my waiting hands. The emptiness in my womb brings a heavy feeling crashing into reality but then this new little life whimpers, searching for the breast with soft rooting, and I feel whole again.

In reaction to her photos gaining attention, Erica said, “you see things like this happen on social media daily and I never thought it would be an image of me…let alone an image so intimate…but knowing that so many mothers have resonated with the image and/or words has made it worth it.”

Michigan Woman Faces Animal Cruelty Charges After Letting Her Six Month Old Puppy Freeze To Death

Pet lovers know that animals are just like people.

Our beloved pets may not be able to tell us when they are cold, tired, or hungry, but that doesn’t mean they don’t experience these feelings. Because most of us know how animals SHOULD be treated, it comes as shock to us when we see them living in awful conditions.

Take, for example, a Michigan woman who let her six-month-old Pit Bull freeze to death earlier this month. Roxanne Grochoske of St. Joseph’s County left her puppy out all night in the cold. The puppy was found dead Jan. 11 when drivers passing by the home saw something unusual.

Earlier that night, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department had been receiving calls, but by the time they showed up, it was already too late.

No animal should be left out in the cold. If you see a dog tied up overnight, call your local pet control. [Credit: Trips With Pets]
No animal should be left out in the cold. If you see a dog tied up overnight, call your local animal control. [Credit: Trips With Pets]
In response to the sad death, Shore Animal Control posted a PSA on Facebook urging residents to alert them immediately if they see animals left out in the cold on a frigid night.

You can hear the tragic story of the poor Pit Bull below:

Stories like this are particularly troublesome because no creature should have to fend for itself in the cold. Perhaps the most upsetting part is that this story isn’t the only one of its kind. A few days later, a Tennessee woman was charged with the same offense, killing two Great Pyrenees mixes.

This behavior is unacceptable so please SHARE this story so people know of the atrocities taking place and what they can do to be aware. If you have any confusion about how to keep your animal safe and warm in the winter, we are here for you.

Tom Hussey Reflection Photo

Do you ever find yourself gazing in the mirror and wondering where all the years have gone?…

Many people have, and as we get older, we think back more and more to our former glory, when we were young and full of the joys of life. That’s not to say people aren’t happy as they age. To the contrary, many people are happier in their latter years than in their former.

This stunning photo series by Dallas-based Tom Hussey is a wonderful tribute to life, as he documents people looking at images in the mirror of their former selves.

The series, aptly named ‘mirrors’ documents how people grow as they age, as they gaze fondly at photoshopped images of themselves in their younger day. The people in the mirrors aren’t really their older versions though, as Hussey and his team found younger people who looked as similar as possible to the elders…

In fact, this couple has been together for so long, they’re in the running to set the world record for the longest marriage. Currently, the longest marriage stands at 86 years, according to The Guinness Book of World Records.

Their secret to being married so long?
