Losing your child is a tragedy that no parent should have to go through, yet when Heather Clark was faced with the heartbreaking news that her son had died, she decided to make the best of the crushing situation.

In the summer of 2013, Clark lost her 7-month-old baby boy Lukas, and decided to donate his organs so that three other families would not have to suffer the same pain she was living with. One of those three children, a now 4-year-old girl named Jordan Drake was the lucky receiver of Lukas’ heart.

Lukas died three years ago when he was just only months old after spending three days in the hospital from life-threatening injuries he allegedly got from his babysitter, but managed to save three other children who were dying with his organs.

8-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Pushes For Bald Barbies For To Help Other Sick Kids

An 8-year-old cancer survivor is trying to change the world, one bald Barbie doll at a time.

When Jordyn Miller of Australia was only 5-years-old, she was diagnosed with cancer.

The years following were difficult and it didn’t help when the little girl’s hair began falling out from the radiation treatments. To help her cope with her changing body, Jordyn and the other children were given bald Barbie dolls in the cancer wards.

However, Jordyn, who is now three years cancer-free, says she also remembers being bullied at school for not having any hair. Hurtful children would tell her she looked like a “boy in a dress,” a vicious thing to say to somebody who is already fighting cancer.

But from the hard times, inspiration has arisen.

Jordyn and her family have created a petition asking Mattel to create a limited edition “Ella” doll, like the kind given out in children’s cancer centers.

[Credit: Facebook]
[Credit: Facebook]
Jordyn’s mother, Tarin, thinks the dolls will help the children understand and cope with the external effects chemotherapy has on the girls’ bodies.

“It’s just so they [kids] know that it’s normal; that it’s a part of life. You don’t have to have beautiful long Disney princess hair to be beautiful,” Tarin told Buzzfeed News.

The petition is close to reaching its goal, so please click here to give your support. You can also give support if you SHARE this post with friends and family and encourage them to take part in the petition too.

The heroes of ASPCA have done it again, rescuing more than 600 animals in one of the biggest sting operations of all time.

When it comes to animal shelters, you might presume that no-kill shelters are the best option, but after seeing the following breaking news story you might change your mind.

[ASPCA]
Over the weekend, the amazing heroes of ASPCA released the following video, where they describe one of the biggest animal cruelty busts of all time.

Dogs, cats, horses and a variety of other animals were found living in unthinkable conditions at no-kill shelter The Haven – Friends For Life in Raeford, North Carolina.

[ASPCA]
On  The Haven’s Facebook page, they claim to “rescue, restore to health, and re-home pets”.

They also describe an animal-assisted therapy program and wrote “Our mission at The Haven-Friends for Life is to end the needless euthanasia of adoptable companion animals by transforming the image of the homeless pet from community drain to community asset.”

[ASPCA]
[ASPCA]
However, when ASPCA’s Vice President of Field Investigations and Response, Tim Rickey, and his team of animal angels arrived at the 122-acre site, they found sick and injured animals in overcrowded cages, as well as dozens of carcasses, according to Fox News.

[ASPCA]
[ASPCA]
The Washington Post reported last week that the Hoke County Sheriff’s department arrested owners Stephen Joseph Spear and Linden Spear and charged them with multiple counts of animal cruelty, as well as possession of controlled substances.

[ASPCA]
[ASPCA]
Now the ASPCA is working with local programs like The Ashville Humane Society to transport the animals, which includes about 300 dogs and puppies, to safe locations as quickly as possible, where they can be treated by veterinarians and soon given something they’ve never known before… the chance for a happy life.

We hear a lot of interspecies love stories, but this one really touched our hearts.

A piglet named Laura, and a kitten named Marina are two rescued babies who are overcoming a pretty difficult past.

Laura was born into the meat industry on the grounds of a factory farm, and while she was rescued, her mother sadly still resides there.

Pit Bull Left For Dead In NYC Enjoys A Warm Bath In His New Home

There is a special place saved you-know-where for people who abuse innocent animals…and we can only hope the monster who abandoned this special pit bull will soon get what’s coming to them.

The following story completely broke our hearts when we first learned about Rudy, but his story is an important one to share, as we need to put an end to the animal abuse like he endured in his all too short lifetime.

According to the following post by SNARR Animal Rescue Northeast, Rudy was found on the streets of New York City in critical condition, close to the point of death.

“Rudy was severely emaciated, unable to walk, and covered in deep gaping wounds and holes. Literally holes on his entire body; some all the way down to his tendons and bones” SNARR wrote on Facebook.

[SNARR]
[SNARR]
Although there is no way to ever know who or what caused these injuries, SNARR fears they were burns from cigarettes or acid. Nearly all of Rudy’s fur was gone and after his first bath, the rest fell out.

“Rudy had a horrible fracture in his front leg, a tear in his bladder and what we came to find out was untreated Cushings disease. It is a miracle this broken boy survived” they wrote.

Yet, survive Rudy did and so SNARR went above and beyond to make the rest of this little boy’s life as comfortable and happy as possible.

[SNARR]
[SNARR]
In the following video, we see Rudy enjoying a nice bath with his new foster family, loving every moment of being spoiled…and no dog deserves it more!

Sadly, Rudy eventually succumbed to his terrible injuries and illness, but SNARR wants us to remember – and celebrate – this dog as a survivor who proved animal rescue can do amazing things for the countless creatures out there still suffering.

Please help remember Rudy and spread his message of hope – SHARE this video with your friends on Facebook!

Dedicated Crime Stoppers: ‘The Guardian Angels’ Return To Protect NYC Subways

The street protectors known as the Guardian Angels are now doing something they haven’t done in decades.

They are back in NYC patrolling the subways, where recent slashings are said to have increased. The New Post reported, “The city on Sunday saw its sixth and seventh subway slashings in less than a month — and the terrifying spree has inspired the Guardian Angels to resume patrols not seen since the Big Apple’s bad old days.”

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said the reason for the slashings are likely a result from crowded trains and mentally ill civilians, and the Guardian Angels hope to help bring these civilians into the custody of police.

The last time they patrolled the NYC subways was in 1994, making it almost 2 decades since their presence has been felt in New York.

Wearing red berets and red jackets, the Guardian Angels are unarmed and strictly patrolling the subways to assist in bringing down crime.

Anti-crime activist, and the head of the Guardian Angels, Curtis Sliwa, has brought his group of volunteers day and night to supplement a police presence he says, is simply not sufficient.

“Riders are coming up and asking us: ‘Please, you’ve got to come back in force,'” Sliwa, who founded the group in 1979, told the NY Post. “I think it’s become obvious that the police need help, the MTA needs help. They can’t handle it.”

There have been six subway slashings since New Years, and on the subway system on any given weekday serves 5.5 million people, so this additional help certainly can’t hurt.

Do you think the Guardian Angels will help bring down crime in NYC? Would you feel safer with them on the subways?

The ostrich, which is native to Africa, uses its long skinny legs to jump and run up to speeds of about 43 miles per hour, and even can even deliver powerful kicks that can kill even a lion. Yet, it seems just a little bit of cold water and ice managed to trap this young bird.

When the staff at the Pittsburgh Zoo noticed an ostrich had fallen through some ice that had formed over a small creek, they jumped to action, using branches and a special medal hook to try and rescue the panicked animal.

At first, the six staff worked to break up some of the ice trapping the female ostrich, but was having difficulty getting her to walk towards solid ground. Eventually, one brave employee jumped into the frigid water to get the bird out as quickly as possible.

With the help of zoo employee Jesse Anna, the ostrich was guided back to the grass, and was luckily not hurt during the entire ordeal. The staff later dried off the ostrich, and wrapped her in a blanket to keep warm.

Officer Marcus Montgomery had no idea that going on a routine call would leave him walking away with a new best friend.

He was visiting the Florida-based rescue Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), due to them receiving threats from a former employee. Montgomery said he spoke with the staff for about 20 minutes, before wrapping up his investigation:

“One of the supervisors left, and while I was still speaking to the director of PAWS, the supervisor came back in with this little puppy in her hands. You could tell he’d been sleeping because his eyes were heavy and he was yawning constantly,” Montgomery told BuzzFeed.

Montgomery then immediately asked to hold the puppy, and as he did, the employee told him how the pit bull, named Kylo came to PAWSApparently, someone had left Kylo outside the facility the night before when it was 37 degrees outside, and he sat alone, crying in a box. Hearing this broke Montgomery’s heart!

The supervisor then said to Montgomery,

“You know Vader needs a baby brother,” (Vader is Montgomery’s 4-year-old pit bull terrier), and this struck a cord with the officer. He posted on imgur: “She brings me this lil guy, chill, no whining, no barking, just chill.”

And that’s when Kylo curled up in Montgomery’s arms, and he fell in love.

Dogs might normally be man’s best friend, but this special dog chose an unusual best friend who refuses to leave his side no matter where they end up.

It’s unclear how Sirence the dog and Thing Two the duck ended up together at the Garland Animal Shelter in Texas, but the staff quickly realized the two had formed a special friendship that began well before winding up in their care.

Yet employees worried no one would be willing to adopt both Sirence and Thing Two.

Workers at the animal shelter quickly picked up on Thing Two and Sirence’s special bond as they couldn’t stand being separated from one another. Luckily, a special family was willing to bring them both home, so they wouldn’t have to be torn apart.

“We like it when we see any animal get adopted out, but when you have a case like this, they’re bonded, we’ll call ’em brothers you know, they’re going home together so that’s our ultimate goal and I think they’ll be happy as well,” a Garland shelter employee said.

It was a really cold day in London on Monday, and a paramedic named Catherine Maynard was helping an elderly pensioner who had fallen in the street.

Maynard works with the Cycle Response Unit, and she sat with the elderly near Endsleigh Street, as they waited for the London Ambulance Service to arrive.

“I was waiting with my patient for an ambulance to transfer him to hospital and although I was keeping him warm it was very cold outside,” she said. “All of a sudden, I looked up and saw someone who looked like David Beckham walking past us. He said hello and got in his car. I said to the man I was treating, ‘I think that was David Beckham.’ Ten minutes later, he came back with a cup of coffee for me and a tea for the patient.”

Maynard describes, “We were both very amused, and flattered. It was awful cycling around in the cold and I couldn’t believe it when he came back with some hot drinks – I was so chuffed.”

Beckham even posed for a photo with the paramedic which was tweeted by the London Ambulance Service:

London Ambulance Service hailed Beckham’s kind gesture, saying “even a gesture as small as buying a cup of coffee makes our crews feel appreciated.”

David Beckham proved it’s the little things that count!

You’ve probably heard this song hundreds of times, but I guarantee you’ve never experienced it being performed like this before!

The Los Angeles-based Angel City Chorale knows that putting on a good stage show isn’t always just about what comes out of their mouths. Sometimes, it’s all about what leads up to the vocals that can really make or break a performance.

The following video of the non-profit community choir was filmed back in 2013, but once you watch it, there is no mystery as to why it’s recently gone viral. This is one spine-tingling cover that deserved to be discovered!

[YouTube]
[YouTube]
In the clip, we see the choir standing very still on stage before they slowly begin to rub their hands together, one by one. The Angel City Chorale is getting the audience ready for the storm that’s about to hit, one fully loaded with rain, thunder, and lightening.

[YouTube]
[YouTube]
Once the storm settles, the band starts up and the group begins to sing the 80’s classic song “Africa” by American pop-rock band Toto, which was one of the first real “world music” songs of all time, encompassing musical influences from South Africa, Bali and beyond.

The result is absolutely magical. This is definitely one performance you don’t want to miss!

Mother Duck Adopts Abandoned Baby Bandicoot

While checking to see if his pet duck’s eggs had hatched one day, a West Australian man named Rex found something unusual cuddling in the nest beside the unhatched eggs

“I went to check on the eggs and a little bandicoot had made its way underneath,” Rex said. “I thought ‘what are you doing there?'” Due to their small size, especially as babies, bandicoots are easy targets for hungry predators, and often depend on finding some place to hide for surviving.

The helpless creature managed to make its way into this mother duck’s nest, and even after the baby ducklings hatched, the bandicoot was welcomed into the new fluffy family.

Surprisingly, the duck was less concerned with the foreign bandicoot joining her family of hatchlings, and more concerned with getting back on top of her nest to keep them all warm and protected when Rex lifted her to check on the new family.

“It’s been there for five days now. If it was by itself it would have been picked up by a magpie or something but it’s sought refuge under the duck,” Rex said.

A dog once abandoned for being born very different has a new leash on life today after his story has completely taken the internet by storm.

Quasimodo is a purebred German shepherd with a severely deformed body, who was discovered alone and brought to live in a shelter.

Staffers at the shelter first believed he had been abused, living his life trapped in a kennel, but it was later discovered that Quasi has a rare disorder called Short Spine Syndrome.

The 4-year-old dog is one of only 13 in the world with this syndrome, according to the Facebook page Quasi The Great, which was set up to monitor his new journey.

Quasi is now under the best care at Secondhand Hounds rescue in Eden Prairie, MN, who have been updating the deformed dog’s growing Facebook fan base of his medical health.

[Facebook]

Although many believe Quasimodo’s deformity was caused by inbreeding, no one is sure.

According to CNN, the dog has been seen by a human geneticist at University of California, who is trying to determine what causes this rare, but debilitating condition.

However, despite his difference in appearances, Quasi’s Facebook page reports that he is otherwise in pretty good health.

The special needs dog is able to walk and run like any other pup. “He doesn’t appear to be in pain, other than from his neck wound which we think came from an imbedded collar.” Secondhand Hounds wrote on Facebook.

“Born different but never knowing any other way, he seeks to please the people who have shown him kind hands and warm hearts,” they wrote, before adding that he was named after the protagonist in Victor Hugo’s heroic tale The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

“He may not look like many dogs on the outside, but his heart and soul shine through and make him one of God’s most beautiful creatures.”

Toddlers have a way of getting into things they’re not supposed to and making a mess with just about anything, and often the first sign of trouble is when things suddenly get too quiet.

When mom and dad noticed things got mysteriously quiet after their sons were playing games together, they knew immediately that their little troublemakers were up to no good. Sure enough, when they went to look for their kids, they found a huge mess covering every inch of the bathroom.

Luckily, their guilty little boy named Ethan fessed up, and even offered to clean it all up!

When mom and dad walked into the bathroom, they were stunned to see shaving cream all over the floor, counter, and shower curtain, yet both of their little boys were mysteriously missing from the scene of the crime.

Whether your dog is more of an adventurer like Lassie or a pampered pooch, who wouldn’t dare bark in the face of danger, you never truly know how protective your furry best friend is until a terrifying situation strikes.

Tracy Jacobs of Cape Town, South Africa has every right to brag about her loyal bull terrier after he nearly gave his life to protect her.

Jacobs wrote to local radio station KFM about the shocking incident, who then shared it on their Facebook page, saying her dog Dexter saved her life when she got out of her car and the bull terrier found a snake in her garage.

“He immediately grabbed it and fought it out of the garage,” Jacobs wrote.

“I picked up the snake and sent a pic to my husband who phoned me to say its a cobra and I need to get to the vet asap.”

Jacobs’ only choice was to get to her nearest animal hospital, which was miles away.

By the time they arrived, she said her dog appeared to be “purple blue and barely breathing.” The veterinarians then feared Dexter wouldn’t make it.

“His kidneys weren’t working and his heart rate kept dropping and he couldn’t breath on his own,” Jacobs wrote.

Expecting mom Rikki Bennett was not at all prepared for the real-life emergency that started to unfold in her grandmother’s Wodonga home on Friday night.

Bennett describes having contractions at about 2pm on Friday, but after being assured by her doctor that the baby was still two days away, she was given pain meds and returned back to her grandmother’s home.

It wasn’t until 11pm that night that Bennett awoke to massive pain and was screaming. “The last thing I remembered was walking out to the car [from the doctor],” she said. “An hour and a half later I woke up screaming.”

Both her mother, Jan and daughter Summah, 13 were also present in grandma’s home, and Jan immediately ran to the phone to call for an ambulance.  The problem was when Jan went to ring the ambulance, she didn’t have her glasses on so couldn’t see to dial!

Great-grandma Looker immediately stepped in, as there was no time to wait for the ambulance to arrive. The baby was coming out now, and he was about to be delivered in great-grandma’s bedroom!

Luckily for Rikki, her grandma had delivered babies before, but never a human baby. Looker is off a dairy farm so she was used to delivering calves, lambs, dogs and cats.

Grandma describes, “I’ve had five babies of my own and none like that.”

And this was not an easy delivery as baby Logan was born inside his amniotic sac, which only happens once in around 80,000 births! Looker says, “He was blue and I put him on my left hand and patted him on the back.” Looker then calmly peeled the sac over Logan’s head before discovering the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck twice and also had to be carefully released.

“After a little bit, he cried and it was the best sound I’ve heard in my entire life,” she says.

Mother and son then went to the hospital after the birth, and Logan Peter weighed in at 3.2 kilograms. Mrs. Looker believes that Logan wouldn’t have survived if Rikki had tried to make it to the hospitalRikki says, “[Grandma] was remarkably cool in a crisis. She was absolutely amazing and there is nothing she can’t do.”

Logan is Looker’s 15th great-grandchild, and she says, “I only hope I live to hear him talk. He will be special, but I won’t love him any more than the others.”
