These Extreme Parents Are Raising Their Three Children On A Sailboat In The Caribbean

The traditional American Dream never appealed to this Chicago couple. Instead they chose to blow where ever the wind takes them, quite literally.

[WindTraveler]
[WindTraveler]

Scott and Brittany Meyers live a life off the grid. In 2010, the newlyweds left their life in Chicago and set sail for calmer waters than the storm that often brews in a big city. During the early months and years of marriage, the couple sailed the east coast of the US, through the Caribbean island chain to Trinidad.

However, while on this voyage, the captain and first mate discovered they would have a new addition: Brittany was pregnant. The couple returned to land for a short while before the three of them set sail again, and just as before, another addition came to the pack. This time, it was in the form of twins. According to Wind Traveler the family’s blog, they again returned to land to live with Brittany’s mother before setting sail with young twins in toe too.

Despite being told that life on a boat with three babies under three simply could not be done (and was foolish, irresponsible, and crazy), they decided to carry on their life at sea. Now the growing family lives a life some of us have only dreamed of having.

The Meyers family has traveled more than 10K nautical miles, visited 13 countries, and experienced a lifetime of adventures:

The young girls have also experienced a lot most kids don’t get to see. They’ve had pet barracudas and played on some of the world’s best beaches:

Brittany and Scott encourage their girls to explore and since they can’t go out, they often go up:

The family has also learned how to consolidate space, live a simple life, and read frequently, because there’s no television on a sailboat:

Little Boy Meets His Shadow And Has The Cutest Encounter You’ve Ever Seen

Young children love making new friends…real and imaginary.

A young child named Jossgrey, who lives in the Philippines, was filmed meeting an imaginary friend recently and his reaction is perfection. Of course, this imaginary friend isn’t like most young children create in their mind. The little guy’s friend doesn’t have blue hair and it isn’t made of spaghetti.

However, it is still an imaginary friend nonetheless. Jossgrey has just discovered his own shadow, the most imaginary of all friends. When he comes upon the illusion of light, he is not quite sure how to respond.

Confusion pans its way across the young boys face only to be replaced with excitement and elation as he figures out he controls the movement of his new “friend.”

The little boy is a precious ray of sunshine, but watch what happens when his own light is obscured:

When most employees receive a job promotion, they get a bigger salary and a pat on the head. This cat, however, received fame on social media (and a snazzy vest).

Felix is a cool cat who is really dedicated to his job at the Huddersfield Train Station in West Yorkshire. She’s so dedicated she lives in the office, albeit her office is a train station and she prowls the premises like she owns the place. Her job was to manage the pesky rats that lurk around the station. It was a positioned she enjoyed so much she did it voluntarily.

However, the cat was just promoted to Senior Pest Control Manager, and it’s a title he wears with pride. She even has a name tag.

[Featured Image Credit: Facebook]

The adorable cat was brought to the train station at just nine weeks old and has become a favorite amount its daily commuters.

She is favored so highly, the ticket office even has a special cat flap just for her:

When Ellie The Pomeranian Puppy Heard A Howling Wolf, She Embarasses Herself With Her Cute Attempt

[Featured Image Credit: Rumble]

Ellie is adorable, but nobody has ever accused her of being fierce.

Ellie is a 3-month-old Pomeranian puppy who is still learning the ropes of being a dog. Sure, she has picked up the basics of how to fetch, chase the mailman, and roll over if she is lured with a treat, but the cute pup is lacking when it comes to howling at the moon.

While Pomeranians aren’t known for being an intimidating breed, all dogs evolved from a common wolflike ancestor, so they all have the desire to howl in their bones. When Ellie heard her owners laptop howling, she responded as her wolflike ancestors would (if laptops existed 30,000 years ago).

The pup lets loose, throws her head back in ferocity, and lets out the cutest whimper of a howl we have ever heard.

It’s okay Ellie, we know you’re still in the process of learning. We know you will be wild one day soon:

While Ellie is far from being a savage beast, that doesn’t mean she can’t be the cutest (and fluffiest) monster we’ve ever laid eyes upon. If you agree, please SHARE this pint-sized pup with friends and family.

Australian Family Rescued A Magpie Who Decided To Stick Around And Become Part Of The Family

When the Bloom family took a baby magpie under their wing, they never expected her to become a permanent fixture in the family.

The family who lines in Sydney, Australia found Penguin (named for her colors) when she was only a few weeks old back in 2013. She was found near their local library, unharmed but alone.

[Credit: Instagram]

After consulting with a family friend and veterinarian, parents Cameron and Sam Bloom decided to adopt the bird. Along with their three children, the family nursed the lonely baby to optimal health.

It also turns out that Cameron is a photographer, so he documents the family adventures in an artful way on Instagram.

Penguin has her run of the house, so to speak. She is free to fly wherever she pleases, but she often chooses to fly back home to the Blooms, who take care of her quite well.

[Credit: Instagram]
[Credit: Instagram]
In a recent interview with ABC News, Cameron said Penguin usually hangs around the family in the morning until the kids leave for school, and then she’ll fly off on her own. But she’s always there to greet the three brothers when they come back in the afternoon.

[Credit: Instagram]
[Credit: Instagram]
As you may know, Magpies are incredibly intelligent animals and Penguin is no exception. She’s been known to sneak into the home during dinner time and eat scraps off the family table.

Penguin also snuggles in bed with her family, plays catch with the kids, and perches on the furniture when she has the opportunity to do so.

In the future, Penguin will likely leave the nest and have a family of her own, but in the meantime, she’s perfectly content with the Bloom family.

Business Man Is Laid Off So He Decided To Convert This School Bus Into A Tiny Home On Wheels

When Steven Johnston was laid off from his corporate job in 2008, he faced a crossroad.

The economy was in shambles, he had a mortgage he could no longer afford on his wife’s teacher salary, and financial recovery seemed dismal. Faced with a difficult decision, Steven and his wife did something extreme: they sold their North Carolina home and moved into a school bus.

Odd as it may sound, the couple had an old school bus lying around. It belonged to Steven’s father who used to own a small school bus company.

For the remainder of the 2008 school year, Steven worked with his father to convert the bus into a mobile home, while his wife cut the necessary ties of being a school teacher. In July of that year, the couple headed West int heir new home, initially covering 4,000 miles in just six months.

The renovations to the school bus transformed it into an unrecognizable piece of interior design that I would LOVE to live in:

[Credit: Tiny House Living]

It has a small kitchen for minor cooking when the couple isn’t grilling over a fire outside the home:

The home also has a work station, though we doubt little work is getting done these days:

The home also has a closet in the back (near the emergency exit), a futon that folds down into a bed, and even a kitchen table:

Buttercup The Duck Lost His Foot, So A Group Of Scientists Just Printed Him A New One

[Credit: Feathered Angels Waterfowl ]

Buttercup is a lucky duck with a fowl past, but he also has something most ducks don’t carry with them: a new leg hot off the press.

Buttercup was born with a rare birth defect that caused one of his legs to face the wrong direction. To fix the problem, his caretakers amputated the existing foot and gave him a new one so he could live a normal life (albeit a slightly more famous life).

This is what Buttercup looked like as just a little duckling:

[Credit: Feathered Angels Waterfowl ]
[Credit: Feathered Angels Waterfowl ]
Before resorting to extreme measures and printing the animals a prothetic, his caretakers attempted to put the poor baby through physical therapy. However, it proved unsuccessful and Buttercup as sent to Feathered Angels Waterfowl Sanctuary in Arlington, Tennessee.

After a few months spent at the bird sanctuary, caretaker Mike Garey decided to remove the foot. Sure, Buttercup COULD have a peg leg, but his owners chose instead to give him an original designed just for him.

[Credit: Feathered Angels Waterfowl ]
[Credit: Feathered Angels Waterfowl ]
The final 3D printed design is quite interesting. It uses a stretchy silicone sock to hold the new foot in place, without being uncomfortable. It took the team a few iterations and failed designs, but in the end Buttercup got a new foot and he was able to quit hobbling around on his stump.

Paralyzed Man Raises Money For Surgery, Then Donates It All To A Disabled 5-Year-Old

A paralyzed man from the United Kingdom has just become a hero for a disabled boy and his family.

Seven years ago, Dan Black was knocked off his bicycle in a serious accident that left him paralyzed. One day he was able to walk, and the next day he wasn’t.

Before the accident, the 28-year-old enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and riding a bike:

[Credit: SWNS]
[Credit: SWNS]
However, since then, he hasn’t been able to play a single note. He broke a vertebrae which left him paralyzed from the chest down. He also suffered a stroke as he recovered in hospital, which left him without the use of his right arm.

Over the course of a few years, Black managed to raise £20,000 for stem cell research that could allow him to walk again in the somewhat distant future. However, rather than using that money to fund research for himself, he made a great sacrifice.

This is 5-year-old Brecon Vaughan, who needed £60,000 for surgery for his cerebral palsy, allowing him to walk unaided:

[Credit: SWNS]
[Credit: SWNS]
So back in 2013, Dan donated the money he had raised for himself to young Brecon and his family. Brecon needed surgery so he could walk on his own and the surgery had a high chance of working.

Dan was simply attempting to raise money for research so he was still years away from walking. After receiving the donation, Brecon went on to get the surgery, which was a great success.

For the past three years, Brecon has been able to walk on his own thanks to a great hero:

[Credit: SWNS]
[Credit: SWNS]
Dan said about donating the money that it wasn’t a difficult choice for him to make. “Brecon can definitely walk if he has the surgery. I wouldn’t wish being paralyzed on anyone, so if I can help someone walk, I will.”

You can hear the whole interview below:

We need more heroes like this in our world. If you want to inspire people to be as giving as Dan Black, please SHARE this incredible story with friends and family!

Dad Surprises Little Girls In The Best Way Possible When He Comes Home From Afghanistan

These little girls had no idea what was awaiting them when they attended ‘just another’ school assembly.

However, Mom and Dad cleverly conspired to surprise their little girls Adrian and Emily in a terrific way.

Dad had been away serving as a soldier in Afghanistan. It had been months since these girls had seen their father, and years since they got to spend an extended amount of time with him.

So, on just another ordinary day, the school shuffled the students into the multipurpose room, had them sit down for an assembly, and then brought in a surprise hero who had just come home early from being overseas.

While all the other students reacted with mild interest, the two little girls had an incredible reaction.

One instantly ran onto the stage to welcome her father home, while the other had a priceless reaction:

Tiny French Bulldog ‘Helps’ Owner Shovel Snow After A Huge Storm

[Credit: Youtube]

We could all use a helping hand in shoveling snow, especially this time of the year, however this bulldog doesn’t know what he’s getting himself into.

Poland is a country in Northern Europe that gets a great deal of snow. The beautiful sparkling white powder falls by the bushel each year covering homes, driveways, and sideways with a heaping amount of that fluffy white stuff.

And when it comes to shoveling up that mountain of snow, we just found the world’s tiniest and most helpful companion. The video below shows just how helpful this companion is, and unfortunately, Vincent the bulldog isn’t particularly good at what he does.

The outcome is a hilarious attempt on the bulldogs part to push the shovel, which is really little more than him chasing it.

But they all look like they’re having a good time and an additional dog even joins the crowd to lend a helpful paw:

Perhaps next time, he should train his dog to be more like this guy:

While Vincent isn’t the most useful companion for shoveling show, he is without a doubt the most eager. If you’ve enjoyed his proclivity for helping as much as we have, please SHARE with friends and family.

If there’s a will, there’s a way.

Nothing proves this statement true better than Polish artist Mariusz Kedzierski. The 23-year-old artist was born without hands, a caveat that should stand in the way of his drawing, but doesn’t even slow him down.

“I think that my talent is in spite of my arms. Everything comes to me naturally, so I can’t say it is hard or easy to do without arms,”he told Buzzfeed News.

“I don’t know how it is to have arms because I have never had them.”

[Credit: Facebook]

Kedzierski works by holding the pencil with the ends of his arms. He’s self taught and has learned to manipulate the pencil in a hundred different ways to create a thousand artistic variations.

The results are stunning:

Five-Pound Chihuahua Runs Away From Home In Texas…And Ends Up In Atlanta

Chihuahua1

If Coco could talk, she’d have quite the story to tell.

When Coco, the five pound Chihuahua, ran away from home in Arlington, Texas back in September, owner Amanda Benton didn’t expect her to make it eight hundred miles before she was found.

However, when the dog turned up in Atlanta, GA, Benton was just as shocked as she was relieved.

The Atlanta Humane Society found the dog and were equally surprised when they checked the microchip she had implanted and found where the dog came from.

The humane society contacted Benton and even bought her a plane ticket so she could come to Atlanta and pick up the dog in person.

The reunion between the two was very sweet:

But how did this dog end up all the way in Atlanta? The trip is over twelve hours by car. For a dog that weighs as much as a watermelon, that trip would be a long one on such tiny legs. Perhaps she hitchhiked her way there. I suppose this mystery is one that will remain unanswered for a while, but we are glad the two were happily reunited.

Toddler’s Tragic Death Gave This Beautiful 8-Month-Old Girl A Chance At Life

One family is suffering a horrible tragedy while another received a miracle.

William Heard, 2, of Brentwood, Tennessee had his life tragically cut short in December while he was being watched by a nanny who had been with the family for years. He choked on a piece of food and never regained consciousness.

However, 400 miles away, an 18-month-old Ava Martin of Chicago was going through some tragedies of her own with her family. On August 18, Ava was diagnosed with heart failure, and since then had been fighting for her life. According to CBS Chicago, in her first 15 months of life, she endured two open heart surgeries.

Jamie and Daniel Heard, William’s parents, have gone through more than any parent, but in their darkest time, they made the selfless decision to donate William’s organs. His heart saved Ava’s life.

After four months of waiting, a viable heart was donated, the transplant was a success, and Ava has been released from the hospital. Both families have been through more than any should ever have to go through, and thanks to social media, the Heard family has connected with the Martin family. The Heards will soon be visiting her and her family in Chicago.

“This is something that all the money in the world couldn’t buy us,” Amie Martin told KLFY. “And we are so thankful for what they’ve given us today.”

You’ll Laugh When You See Why This Dog Is Freaking Out

This is one dog who is NOT worthy of guarding the home.

Try not to judge poor little Jack, the Jack Russel Terrier who isn’t about to quit his day job to become a guard dog. Jack’s owners recently got a new friend, and it’s a previously foreign critter that sends Jack into a tizzy.

Jack’s family brought home a little duck, which has not yet been named. When the little duck meets Jack, he shows that he’s a curious one and he’s dying to play with his new family. However, Jack doesn’t know what to make of the little duck and he responds by flipping out, barking, running away, and even tripping over his own feet at one point.

This is one extremely curious duckling:

Meanwhile, the curious little duck keeps waddling about, absorbing his surroundings and persistent in introducing himself to Jack. Perhaps Jack needs to learn a few manners. This is not how we treat guests when they come into our home.

It’s okay Jack, all adjustments take a little bit of time. While we don’t know if the two ever became friends, we believe they probably did:

Watch This Beautiful Baby Boy Get Emotional When Mom Sings Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Screen Shot 2016-01-06 at 11.18.21 PM

Emotions are a funny thing, especially when you’re only a few months old.

Take, for example, the emotion of joy. We express joy when we see happy things and cute things. We feel good when we hear a sweet sound or charming noise. In this case, the voice of Meg Clifford, the mother of this beautiful little boy, evoked quite a bit of joy. The mother has a voice like a flute and many adults would be moved to tears by her melodic voice prancing through their eardrums.

However, when Meg sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” the classic from the Wizard of Oz, the result was a confusing mix of joy and sadness. It was especially confusing for her young son who didn’t know how to express the mix of emotions. The result: the baby cries tears of joy that move us to tears as well.

It looks like the sweet baby feels the emotion as soon as his mother starts singing. He tries to hold in the emotion for a moment or two, before allowing the water works to come. The moment is a moving one that we’re glad this mother captured on camera.

Make sure you grab a box of tissues before you watch this video:

Baby Marcus Loves Jumping On His Trampoline

We have found an acrobat in training.

Baby Marcus isn’t a part of the circus yet, but that doesn’t mean he won’t soon be flying through the air, somersaulting as he goes.

When his parents bought Marcus this toddler trampoline, they were expecting him to like, but they weren’t expecting him to go bananas for the toy. Marcus is obsessed with this new way of working out, and he’s using it to aid him as he learns to stand and walk.

Marcus appears to be bright as he learns the use of the bar and attempts to catch it midair (like I said…trapezist in the making). However, Marcus needs to learn how walk before he can run and he also need to learn how to stand before he catches the bar mid-jump.

All in due time, Marcus. You’ll be doing backflips in no time:

This video has been quickly going viral, and the clip has sparked debate among parents. Some say the kiddie tramp is a perfectly fine way to help your toddler get a workout, while other strongly feel it is unsafe and should be banned. Do you have any thoughts on the subject?

Please pass on your ideas about parents and trampolines in the comment section, and don’t forget to SHARE the adorable video with your friends and family!

[Credit: CBS]

This is a story 27 years in the making!

5-year-old Ryder Goggin received the coolest birthday present this year. On New Year’s Eve, the child was celebrating his birthday with his mother when they took a walk on the beach in Mendocino County. The surprise: a message in a bottle nearly THREE DECADES OLD!!

“We were crossing the bridge, and Ryder decided to cross over the creek,” Ryder’s mother, Heather Baird, said.

Usually, Ryder just picks up crabs, shrimp, and small rocks, however on this occasion, a bottle caught his attention. Ryder was hoping to find a map leading to buried treasure, and while he didn’t discover a trunk of riches, he did find something equally valuable.

Inside the  bottle was a message that read as follows:

Hi my name is Chris. I am 10-years-old and in the 5th grade. I live in Sacramento. Call me when you find this to let me know where it washed ashore. September 5th 1988.

[Credit: CBS]
[Credit: CBS]
The message additionally contained a phone number, which the boy and his mother obviously tried calling. The number was out of service and it seemed they had hit a dead end, until Sacramento Library archives led elsewhere.

Click the video to see just how deep this story goes:

It looks like Ryder and his mother are still left with a dead end, but they are eager to learn more. What were the conditions that prompted Chris to put the message in the bottle and where is Chris now?

If you want this 5-year-old boy to find the long-lost sender, you know what to do. Make sure you SHARE this inspiring story, especially if you know anybody with the last name Farnsworth. Let’s help bring this mystery full circle!

The Climbing Goats Of Morocco Will Blow Your Mind

While at first, these goats high up in the trees in southwestern Moroccan look unusual and even fake, they’re actually completely real and pretty magical.

Photographer Michael Chinnici captured these mind-blowing images of the goats, who climb high into Argania trees to eat fruit and leaves.

Goats will hop up into the branches of the trees to eat the delicious fruit, and then they pass clumps of seeds in their poop, which are then pressed to create many girl’s favorite hair product- Argan Oil

Although Argan Oil is mostly manufactured by hand now, this method was very popular for a long time. Many local farmers even condoned this feeding, since it did prove to be lucrative for them.

Luckily for us ladies, the Argan Oil we use now should not come from goat’s poop, or at least we hope..

While Valentine’s Day can be a wonderful reminder of the love you share with your significant other, it can be especially hard for those who are single or are newly single.

When Valentine’s Day was approaching, this recently divorced mother of one named Emma was understandably dreading the day, but her 4-year-old son named Max turned out to be the perfect date.

“I have always brought my son up to be thoughtful, kind, caring and appreciate even the smallest gestures,” Emma wrote to Facebook. “After a quick grocery shop, my son told me to close my eyes (which I kept partially open to see what he was up to) and he proceeded to choose me a Valentine’s card and a small teddy bear in a gift bag. My eyes welled up as we continued to shop.”

When February 14th finally arrived, Max brought his mom and date to Pizza Express to treat her with a meal that he would pay for with his jar of pennies.

“After a delicious 3-course meal, we went to pay. We were greeted with a waitress in tears who had watched our special ‘dinner date’. Looking at her eyes welling up, I also began to shed a tear,” Emma said. “She gave us our meal free of charge as a gift from Pizza Express in Torquay as she was so touched by what my 4-year-old son had done.”
