While premature babies can face difficult uphill battles, dependent on when they were born, a Quebec-based photographer, Red Methot is showing in his Les Premas photo series that premature babies often do overcome many challenges and persevere.
The photo series shows people of widely varying ages posing with photos of themselves as premature babies.
In most, the trappings of the hospital ICU are still present, as premature babies can be born with under-developed organs, and are usually held in the ICU until their organs have developed fully.
And because preemies have less time to develop in the womb, they often face a number of difficulties in their first few months of life.
Methot’s photos illustrate this and highlight the strength and perseverance these babies had in order to overcome challenges early in life.
On his facebook, Red Methot writes:
“This album shows portraits of people born prematurely that have sometimes had a difficult journey at the beginning of life. You can see what they have become.”
