Photographer Julie Wilson enjoys capturing special moments through her work, and she photographs anything from weddings to new babies and milestones in kids’ lives.
She believes that each family and each child are beautiful and special in their own way, but for kids with disabilities, she feels that sometimes people can’t see how special these children truly are.
Wilson’s sister, Dina was born with down syndrome, and when she passed away four years ago, Wilson knew she had to help others see the beauty in children with a disability.
Dina sadly passed due to congestive heart failure, which is common in those who have down syndrome.
Wilson started this photography project of photographing children with down syndrome, so the world can see how special these children really are.

Wilson remembers Dina as “the best thing that could have happened to our family.”

While some people may have only seen Dina as a child with a disability, Wilson and her parents knew her for the unique and special person that she was.

She wants to let parents know that while it has its challenges, down syndrome is nothing to fear, and won’t make the child’s or the parents’ lives any worse.

Wilson hopes that these photos will help people see that children with Down Syndrome have so much to give.
