Did you know chickens are smarter than we originally gave them credit for?

I swear, I don’t harbor any poultry prejudices. Chickens, however have an extremely small brain and receive little nurturing from mother hen after they’ve hatched. The more nurturing an animal gives its young, the longer the offspring has to develop advanced brain function (perhaps that’s why many Millennials are still living at home–for the extra brain function, or course).

However, despite the small brain, chickens are actually much smarter than we previously perceived. New studies have been confirming what many farmhands speculated was true for years. According to PETA, chickens have distinct social structures, advanced communication skills with their complex clucks, and a variety of personalities. They can even complete mental tasks, they learn from watching each other, and they demonstrate self-control.

Chickens can soon add a new skill to their growing list of functions, one that is ordinarily reserved for dogs and Donkey Kong. Chickens can complete complex obstacle courses–at least, one New Hampshire chicken can.

A chicken name Stripe has an impressive skill set that proves he’s more than just a pretty piece of meat. He has an equally impressive intellect and can use his optimal motor skills to work his way through a young girl’s obstacle course.

Watch this impressive piece of poultry do his thing:
