This Is What Your Wedding Blog Would Look Like If It Was Honest

Have you seen the wedding blog trend that’s cropped up lately?

I first noticed it as I was casually scrolling through my news feed on Facebook, sipping my Starbucks, and not having a care in the world one Sunday morning. I came across a post from that popular girl from high school who said “hello” to me once Freshman year (Apparently in 2009, I liked to friend everybody who talked to me).

While scrolling through the page, I saw she was engaged to her a high school boyfriend, and the countdown was on. “200 days left until our big day,” was plastered across my news feed, accompanied with “feeling ecstatic.” Below the status update was a link to a wedding website. Being the curious (and slightly creepy) soul that I am, I clicked the link to a website called The Knot and was brought to an adorable blog highlighting the details of the couple’s big day, the story of how they met, and photographs taken for the wedding.

If you happen to be tying the knot in the near future you might want to check out The Knot:

The Knot is an adorable wedding website that allows you and your special someone to publicize your wedding by creating a wedding blog. The website will include a countdown of days until the big ceremony and your Bed, Bath and Beyond registry, as well as photographs of you and bae.

You can even include directions to the reception venue, time, and any other relevant information your guests, resentful ex, or that random blogger from high school would need to weasel their way into a free meal and a rendition of the Cha Cha Slide.

Couples can shop for rings, dresses, accessories, and anything else that will buy the two of you happily ever after:

Perhaps my favorite part of the website is the personalized story of how the couple first got together. After all, your Great Aunt Ethel is going to be reading this blog, so you probably can’t tell the honest story.

On my quest of creeping on these high school “friends,” I found a few more blogs regaling its audience with the story about how the fine young lovers first made contact.

Here’s how the average story went:

Sarah met Peter her junior year of college when Pete was a Senior. Sarah went to a Halloween party dressed as an Angel and Peter dressed as the Devil. The perfect couple had instant chemistry and found themselves wandering away from the silly party to take a walk through the surrounding neighborhood. They regaled each other with stories about their hometowns, dreams of their futures, and finally, ended the night at Popeye’s, eating junk food until the early hours of the morning until they finally parted ways.

From that night on the two were inseparable. They texted constantly, met for coffee, talked for hours and started a conversation that has not yet ended. Three years later, they keep incessantly exchanging ideas, the two go ice skating regularly, and (on occasion) take long, moonlit walks to get fast food, reminiscent of that first night they met.

When Sarah got a job in Milwaukee, Pete relocated with her. It didn’t take long for him to pop the big question and the beautiful couple can’t wait to start their life together.

Join the happy couple the weekend of July 16, to help them celebrate the commencement of their forever together.

But here’s how it actually happened (probably):

Sarah and Peter met in college at a Halloween party. Sarah wore lingerie and wanted to wear some form of animal ears, but settled for Angel wings when she couldn’t find any. Peter dressed as a Devil because he knew there would be a lot of girls would be dressed as Angles (the theme his frat chose was “Halloween in Hell” and what a night from hell it was).

Peter and Sarah met when Sarah’s friend Brianna (the maid of honor) left with a guy from her biology class. Sarah and Peter talked over a beer, and then went upstairs to shag. By that point, the keg had run dry so the house was empty. Peter offered to walk Sarah back to campus since it was cold and there was nothing else to do that night. They got Popeye’s on the way back, had an awkward goodbye, and vowed to never see each other again.

Over the next few weeks, they ran into each other at parties and seeing as they were both unsuccessful at sleeping with people they actually liked, they continued to roll in the hay until they started to actually like each other. After 6 months of casual sex, they got into a committed relationship, that fell apart in three weeks.

Due to the small circles they ran in, they saw each other too frequently, which resulted in sleeping with each other too frequently. It wasn’t until graduation that they both felt ready to commit to a relationship with each other, and that’s where the real magic began.

After years of being in a bad relationship, the too are madly in love and want you to join them for their big day on July 16. You probably have nothing better to do and I guarantee it’s a good chance to get drunk on somebody else’s dime, so might as well, right?

But you could never post that real story to Facebook now could you?
