Bag ‘O’ Nails in Bristol, England is a pub that doesn’t just have one resident cat, it has a whole slew of them. The old-styled British bar has 15 frolicking felines roaming the premises and making friends with the patrons who come in for a pint.
Self-confessed “cat-man” landlord Luke Daniels started off with just two of the animals, according to the Western Daily Press. However, those animals procreated (as tends to happen) and next thing he knew, Daniels had 24 cats on his hands and in his pub!
The number has now scaled back as “that was too much,” said Daniels.
But the friendly cats, who range in look and personality, are a huge pull for tourists who come through simply to see the famous “feline pub.”
And while Daniels has received a bit of a blowback from animal rights activists, most are okay with the cat pub.
We certainly wouldn’t recommend drinkers sharing their favorite tipple with the cats, as alcohol is a poison which can cause them serious harm and suffering,” the spokesperson reportedly told Huffington Post.
Daniels said that the majority of the cats are name after Roman emperors because they have “strong names.”
The clan includes Absinthe, Salvador, Philomena Hercules, Hadassah, Lucifer, Boris, Rasputin, Cirrus and Stratus, Wolfgang and Therese.
