These hard-working sloths are definitely failing to live up to their name.
Typically, sloths learn to climb from Mama sloth. However, the baby sloths at the Toucan Rescue Ranch in Costa Rica don’t have mothers to teach them the hard work that comes with being a sloth. Most lost their mothers to cars or dogs. Fortunately, the rescue center is there to fill in and ensure these lethargic animals are kept happy.

When it comes to learning how to climb, the sloths have a teacher filling in for Mom, and it’s not what you would expect. The babies are placed on rocking chairs, which sway back and forth to mimic the rocking of a tree branch. It allows the sloths to learn how to climb in a realistic and safe environment.

Contrary to their reputation, sloths are not as lazy as they would have you believe. Sloths only sleep about ten hours a day, which is significantly more than the five hours you scramble to receive each night, but not as much as we’ve been led to believe.
