You may hold your current job for many reasons, the main one probably being that it is necessary for your survival to have a roof over your head and food on the table.

Maybe you were forced to take your current job because it was the only offer that you received, or maybe you took it in order to save up money for your future.

Regardless of the reason, your current job may not be ideal, but it is certainly manageable. There are ways to survive it, and to help you LifeDaily has compiled 9 Ways To Survive A Job You Don’t Like:

9. Keep a positive attitude

Now, while this may be hard to do because you dislike your job, having a negative attitude will only make your day worse. Allow thoughts of the future to keep you going, or allow the thought of your paycheck to keep you going. Staying positive and optimistic is only beneficial to you.

8. Remember that your job pays the bills

You have to remember that your current job is the one paying your bills. Without it, you would not have no income, and that means a lot of problems.

7. Learn as much as you possibly can

Even if you have a job cleaning toilets, there are still things to learn, just like in any profession. There are people skills to learn, and small nuances that noone else would know unless they held your job. Every bit of knowledge you acquire during your life will be helpful to you and to serve a purpose, even if it’s learning how to survive in your unpleasant job.

6. Count your blessings

Remember that you are lucky to have a job in the first place. Some people are sick and unable to work, some are handicapped and would do anything to be able to have legs like you do so that they can stand on their own two feet. It can always be worse, so don’t ever forget that. Remember this Persian proverb: “I cursed the fact I had no shoes until I saw the man who had no feet.”

5. Leave work at work

If you go home and still think about work, complain about work, or worry about the next day’s work, you need to stop doing this. When you go to work from 9-5, or whatever time it is, let your day end there. While sometimes, you may have to put in some extra time to get the job done, this should not be the normal, especially for a job that you don’t even like. When you get home, it is your time.

4. Create time for yourself

It’s important to create time for yourself either in the morning, or after work, and definitely on the weekends. While you may say: “I have no time” I’m going to say: “you always have time.” Wake up 30 minutes earlier, go to be 30 minutes later. Spend that time for yourself doing whatever it is that makes you happy. It’s only going to benefit you.

3. Do not stop sending out your resume, or asking around about a job

You can spend time over the weekend sending your resume out, or an hour every other day. I know this is time consuming, but it is the only way you’re ever going to move on to something better. Also tell as many people you can about the job you are seeking, because the more you put it out in the universe, the more likely it is to happen.

2. Keep in mind your end goal

Your current job is a short-term goal to get you to your long-term goal. It is a stepping stone to get you to your ultimate goal. If your current job is saving you money, teaching you skills, or merely providing for yourself and your family, it is a step in the right direction. There is always time to improve, and always keep your end goal in mind.

1. Remember that you are the only one in control of your life

Noone else has control over your life but you, and noone else can change your life but you. You are the one responsible, so if you want to make a change and move on to something that will make you happier, it is in your hands. Take control of your life, and remember that “current” does not mean “future.”
