Meet Perry, the one-eyed rescue from San Antonio who has had quite the adventure.
Perry may look like he’s sharing some really juicy gossip with you, but this is only because he lost an eye due to unknown reasons. Now, the happy dog has an eternal wink on his face, which pairs nicely with his almost constant smile.
However, hours before Perry was scheduled to be put down on September 29, Perry’s “last day,” Compass Dog Rescue stepped in and adopted the dog.
Compass is an organization whose purpose is to rescue dogs from kill shelters in the south and bring them safely to forever homes in the north. Perry was one of the lucky dogs who was rescued by this organization.
Then on December 10, Perry was on his way to Michigan to live with another foster family until a forever home could be found for him (like I said, he’s had quite the journey). But this is where the story gets really interesting.
On Sunday, January 3, Perry got loose while being moved up north. He ran away on a major Michigan highway and was lost for almost a week. For days, volunteers searched areas around where Perry went missing. Five days after he ran free, ski patrol from the nearby Mount Holly found the missing dog under the deck of a chair lift. The ski patrol rescuer said he was cold and hungry, but he still needed to be lured out with a hotdog!
My daughter skied down to the cafeteria and brought back a ham and cheese sandwich which he loved. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to get him all of the way out. She went back and brought a kogel’s hotdog! That was the ticket.
