CNN news reporter and silver fox Anderson Cooper is not just a stellar journalist, he’s also out of this world when it comes to helping man’s best friend.
A police dog name Krijger was shot and killed in the line of duty when a man barricaded himself into his home during a standoff in Norfolk, Va on Jan. 11. After this poor animal lost his life, a tragedy that may have been prevented had he been wearing a bulletproof vest, CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper decided to donate funds to fit the entire K-9 unit with ballistic vests.
Cooper clearly has a soft spot in his heart:

The money will go to retired Navy SEAL Jimmy Hatch’s organization, Spike’s K-9 Fund, named after a dog he lost during combat in Iraq, that will purchase bulletproof dogs for the K-9 unit.
Hatch had worked with Krijger during his volunteer work with the police department, offering cops tips he learned handling dogs in combat zones.
Hatch told The Virginian-Pilot that the money could buy about 18 vests, which cost roughly $2,200 a piece. Fortunately, these amazing animals will be better protected in the future thanks to this man.
