Perry Smith and his family were set to go skiing for the weekend, when they resort they were staying in wound up closing due to snowstorm Jonas.
They were headed to Pennsylvania, but wound up staying in a hotel in Maryland to wait out the storm. On their way to they hotel, Smith noticed a “white, pink lump” in the snow along the side of the road, and when he pulled over, the family discovered it was a piglet!

Smith told BuzzFeed News,
“My initial thought was it was a raccoon walking along the side of the road. But there was a trail so I stopped and said, ‘Let’s go back and take a look.'” Smith’s 13-year-old son Perry Smith Jr., rolled down the window to do a check for dad, and said, “Dad, I think it’s a pig.”

Smith’s daughter, Catherine wrapped the freezing piglet in her sweatshirt, and snuck it into the Maryland hotel where staying at for the night. They’re convinced that if they left it out in the blizzard, he surely would have died. The piglet also had a number on its left ear, which indicates that he may have fallen out of a transport truck on the way to auction.

The family took turns caring for the piglet throughout the night, as he continued to shiver, and appeared to have frostbite behind his ears and was covered in scrapes and bruises.

But by the next morning, the piglet who they named “wee wee” was drinking water and eating bananas, which seemed to be his favorite.
Although the family has become attached to wee wee, they are unable to properly care for him at their home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. But, they have found a place for the piglet at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville, MD, and will take him there once the snow clears.
For now, they are enjoying time with him, and Catherine in particular has kind of taken on the role of Fern from Charlotte’s Web.

They promise to visit wee wee all the time.
