For so many high schoolers, Senior Prom is more than just a rite of passage into adulthood. It’s the biggest event of their lives so far and one night they want to make sure they will never forget.
Yet the weeks and months leading up to the big night can often be difficult for many students. From the struggle to find and afford the perfect outfit to finding a date, what should be a very exciting time in a teen’s life can turn into a frustrating, stressful, and even heartbreaking time.
Then there are students like 16-year-old Ben Davis who don’t ever expect to go to prom at all. According to Detroit Free Press, Davis has a rare condition called Pantothenate Kinase-Associated Neurodegeneration, which is a genetic mutation that damages nerve cells in the brain and causes iron build-up and the need for a wheelchair.

During what Davis thought was a normal school pep rally, he was surprised to be called out on to the school’s basketball court and greeted with a very big surprise from classmate and friend Vee Nguyen.

Nguyen wrote on Facebook “‘I’ll ask you to prom when pigs fly’ And he said Yes!
I met Ben Davis two years ago and ever since then we became really good friends.”
