12. Looks like: tree roots

What it really is: Spring temperatures cause carbon-dioxide ice in the polar caps to sublimate into the atmosphere leaving behind starburst patterns.

What it really is: A towering dust devil in the Amazonia Planitia region on Mars, that is about 100 feet across and more than half a mile high.

What it really is: A sand dune called barchan formed on Mars’ Hellas impact basin when Martian winds blew in the same direction for a long period of time.

What it really is: Scientists are actually unsure of this, but they suspect that these gullies either formed from flowing water, liquid carbon dioxide, or something else.

What it really is: Sand dunes on Mars’ Proctor Crater, an area that holds some of the first sand dunes ever discovered on Mars.
