Thalia Standley is a girl true to her name, as she won’t let anything stand in her way.
[Credit: Facebook]In August of last year, the eight-year-old Australian girl lost the lower half of her right arm due to a vicious dog attack.
[Credit: Facebook]While sitting up against a fence, Thalia was grabbed from behind by an Alaskan Malamute and dragged until a bystander pulled the dog off her. Thalia escaped with her life, but she was not lucky enough to hold onto her arm.
[Credit: Facebook]She had to undergo eight surgeries in the arduous months that followed. Her terrified parents documented Thalia’s terrific recovery on a Facebook page called Reaching Thalia.
[Credit: Facebook]They’ve shown through a series of pictures and posts that Thalia is just like any other eager child. She’s still playing sports, hanging out with friends, and generally enjoying her life.

However, Thalia is now taking on a new task.
She’s continuing to compete in her school’s swim competition. Thalia swam to the finish line (with only a small push of help) while her classmates, friends, and family cheered her on at a deafening volume. There was not a dry eye along the edge of the pool while Thalia swam.
