Some of us may think we know what goes on in the White House, but we actually have no idea.
LifeDaily has done some digging and uncovered 7 Shocking White House Secrets:

7. There’s a twin White House in Ireland
James Hoban and Irish Architect is said to have based his plans for the White House on the Leinster House in Dublin. This house was originally the home of the Duke of Leinster, and these days is it the seat of the Irish Parliament.
6. It wasn’t always known as The White House.
Prior to Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency, it was known as the Executive Mansion.

5. The basement is basically an underground strip mall
Most people know about the bowling alley in The White House basement, but in addition to it, there is a Situation Room where the president holds meetings with advisors during crises, a flower shop, a carpenter’s shop, and a dentist’s office!

4. There is a Secret Service code phrase to indicate when the President and the First Lady are having sex
The code phrase to indicate the president (code name: Renegade) and his First Lady (code name: Renaissance) are having sex will be “discussing the Bosnian problem.” In the event that the president and his First Lady are not having sex however, Secret Service agents are instructed to say “they are reviewing the Bosnian situation.”

3. There’s no such thing as a free lunch, even for the First Family
There is no such thing as free food at The White House. At the end of each month, the president receives a bill for himself and his family’s personal food and expenses including toiletries and dry cleaning. This cost is deducted from his $400,000 annual salary.

2. It’s haunted
When Winston Churchill was British Prime Minister, he refused to ever stay in the Lincoln Bedroom again after walking out of the bath fully nude and finding President Lincoln’s ghost appeared beside the fireplace. There are additional reports as well of Lincoln’s ghost haunting The White House.

1. The West Wing was only meant to be temporary
The West Wing, first known as the Executive Office Building, was built by Teddy Roosevelt to keep the residential and official business areas separate. It wasn’t attached to the main house until President Taft cleared it so that he could be more involved with the day-to-day operations. People suspect that it was because President Taft wasn’t too keen on doing a lot of walking around the premises.
