If you think your kids never listen to you, chances are you’re probably right. However, every so often we see a story like the incredible one below that proves kids can completely surprise us and soak up a lot more knowledge than we give them credit for.

Kenner Fire Department District Chief Patrick Ardeneaux says his fire house sees countless kids come in and learn about fire safety every year. “All the schools come to the fire house, we show them around, give them a safety talk,” he told CNN. “It just happened to stick with this one little girl.”

Five-year-old Cloe Woods of Louisiana shocked everyone by remembering the fire safety tips she learned at the Kenner Fire Station and saving her grandmother’s life when she heard her home’s fire alarm go off around 7 a.m. on a Wednesday morning.

Remembering what she learned at the fire house months back, the pre-kindergartner went into her blind grandmother’s bedroom to wake her up, leading them both to a neighbor’s house, where they called 911.

Firefighters believe the fire was caused by food left on the stove, according to CNN, and people across the New Orleans suburb and beyond are praising the tiny hero for her quick-thinking and bravery.
