James Isaac is a 9-year-old boy with autism, who sadly cannot speak and is uncomfortable with being touched.
There is no one in the world that understands him better than Mahe, the devoted assistance dog who never leaves James’ side. Recently, James went to get an MRI in his hometown of New Zealand, and Mahe was allowed to come with him.

James needed to be tested to diagnose his seizures, and it meant everything to him to have his loyal dog by his side.

The family posted these incredible photos of the two laying in the hospital bed together, and it is touching hearts everywhere!
Even as James was being put under, the photos show Mahe remaining by his side, nuzzling his face.

But, Mahe does much more than just accompany James on hospital visits. He is trained by Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust to keep James calm when they’re out in public, where he used to feel anxious and fearful.

“There is such a magic that happens between a child with autism and the dogs, they just calm the kids down,” Wendy Isaacs, who works for the trust, told Stuff.co.nz. “The kids will maintain eye contact with the dog, but often not with their own parents and siblings.”
Mahe is committed to sticking by James’ side throughout everything.
