Every February, the Sapporo Snow Festival is held in Sapporo, Japan. The event displays incredible snow and ice carvings, and attracts about two million visitors each year.
The festival first started in 1950 when local high school students made a few snow statues, and has now been held annually for 66 years. While the first festival only had six snow statues, the current festival includes an international snow carving competition, ice rinks, tube sliding, projection shows, and some of the worlds most intricate snow sculptures.
Artists from around the world entered the international sculpture contest, which allots only three days to work on and complete the snow carvings. Take a look at some of the most incredible sculptures from the festival thanks to Rocket News 24.

The Darth Vader sculptures were clearly one of the top contenders at the festival, but there were many other amazing sculptures to be seen.

Some artists were inspired by some of Disney’s most popular characters like Olaf, Elsa, and Anna from “Frozen”, as well as Baymax from “Big Hero Six”

The real winner of the festival was this amazing snow sculpture replica of the Kasuga Grand Shrine.

At night it became even more remarkable as part of the projection mapping show.
