It’s not everyday a firefighter responds to a routine call that ends with him paying a bill.
When the family had fallen behind their electric bill, the ventilator went out. Typically, a medical waiver would prevent this from happening, but the form had been improperly filled out resulting in the shut down of the ventilator.
Touched by the family’s struggle, McCue went ahead and anonymously took care of their electric bill, a full $1,023. Of course, this kind of anonymous deed doesn’t stay secret for long. Fire Chief Michael Phy wanted McCuen recognized for his generosity and he spread the word about the good deed.
“His act, although anonymous, should not go overlooked or ignored,” Phy said in the statement, calling McCuen a “very humble individual.”
“This might sound corny, but we are here to help,” McCuen told the newspaper. “There’s a lot of people who do good work: Firemen, cops, teachers, and they don’t get any recognition, so I wasn’t seeking any, I’m just trying to give back.”
The firefighter also explained the situation to the electric company’s service representative and ensured keeping the family’s power on would be a priority.
Wow we really need more people like this in the world. If you agree, please SHARE and spread the word about these kinds of deeds.
