No, this is not the start of a joke: it’s the start of an actual news story. In Tasmania, Australia, patrons at the Customs House Hostel found a penguin outside the drinking establishment.

Veterinarian Dr. James Harris told The Mercury, “It obviously came up out of the water and wandered around and got lost, as children often do,” commenting on the penguins young age (he was clearly too young to be wandering into a bar. He would have never even gotten past the bouncers at the door).

When patrons finally found the penguin hiding under a car for shelter from the heat, they wrapped him in a towel and brought the little guy inside:

Then, animal control was called and the penguin ended up in rehabilitation until he is strong enough to be released into the wild.
