95-year-old George Gelfars from Rosyln Heights, New York, proves you’re never too old to try something new.
Gelfars is a World War II veteran who served in the 77th infantry of the U.S. Army. He has three children and five grandchildren, and is a widower.
George’s wife Florence sadly passed away last year, and she was the one who did all the cooking in the household. Since then George has decided to take over and with the help of Angela Andrews, a case workers from the Family and Children’s Association, George has a newfound skill- cooking.
Once a week Andrews visits Gelfars as part of a program to help the elderly with everyday chores.
Gelfars has learned to make his favorite dish- salmon with sautéed onions, brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries, and he plans to frequent the library and learn to cook new recipes.
