Many people will often turn away shelter dogs who appear to have too much energy, and are constantly jumping and barking.

It can be very difficult to find a home for these over-energized dogs, but the Working Dogs For Conservation (WD4C) is doing something incredible to help.

Overly energized dogs that are deemed “unadoptable,” are the perfect candidates for WD4C, where they can put their focused fixation and energy to good use.

This group trains canines to bust criminals by sniffing out clues that solve crimes.

They are trained to detect narcotics, cadavers, people who need rescuing, illegal snares, endangered animals and plants, noxious weeds, and more.

This can be very difficult work for a dog, therefore, the organization seeks to recruit only the strongest pups they can find.

“Great conservation detection dogs have an obsessive play drive and an unrelenting toy focus. Their never-quit attitude makes them nearly impossible to keep in a family home, but perfect members of the WD4C family.

Take a dog named Ruger for example. He was the first anti-poaching dog in Zambia, and he has been trained to find rhino horns, bush meat, guns and ammunition.

As it turned out, Ruger’s bull-headed behavior led to his success. When road blocks were set up at the entrance of a park, the destination of many illegal poachers, Ruger was able to search each vehicle in a matter of minutes, a task that would take humans hours.

In the video below, Parker tells a story of Ruger, and explains how “bad dogs” are the perfect candidates to be crime fighters.
