They should have never been separated, but luckily one heroic Staff Sergeant and his K9 partner on the battlefield get to enjoy the civilian life side by side.

We’re big fans of amazing soldier and K9 reunions like in this touching story about two injured heroes. No one deserves a happy ending like our brave men and women of the military, and we’re so happy to report that at least one bomb-sniffing pooch is back with his best friend.

As you can see in this video about military working dogs, K9’s like Bond, the Belgian Malinois, are some of the most elite and hardworking on the planet. Four months after returning home from being stationed in Afghanistan alongside Staff Sgt. Justin, Bond was reunited with his former partner, who is still active duty and chose not to use his last name.

“I really would like to thank the American Humane Association, Lois Pope and the Pine Mountain Police Department for reuniting me with Bond,” the soldier told Charlotte Observer. “It’s pretty awesome.”

Police Lt. Daniel Ferrone adopted the dog for his department, but said he knew the dog should be reunited with his former handler. “As a former K9 handler, this was something I had an emotional attachment to do,” Ferrone said.

“I knew it was the right thing to do, reuniting the working dog and soldier to enjoy retirement together.”
