Teenager Asks ‘Superhero’ Battling Cancer To Be Her Date To Prom

This teen just carried out the best “promposal.”

Perhaps you’ve heard of the trend. Students embarking on the adventure of senior prom will find a creative and fun way to ask a fellow classmate to the most important dance of their life.

Shelby Butler of Winder, Georgia, made a special “promposal” that’s so adorable it’s worth being shouted about from the rooftops. Shelby asked a special boy she has known for his entire life, family friend, Alex Richards, who is an 8-year-old boy battling cancer for most of his life. He is now in his third round with luekemia, which returned in March 2015.

But Shelby told the young child he is a superhero. He’s been through so much in his short life that Shelby has no choice but to admire Alex’s resilience, and to make his day, she decided to take him to senior prom.

But then she wrote, “Alex is cool because he never stops fighting. I would like my superhero Alex to be my date to the prom.”

“He just never stops fighting,” Shelby said. “I thought of a million things, but I remembered when he gets his chemo, we call it his superpower, so that’s where I got the superhero (theme) from.”

Shelby is working on trying to get a limousine for the big day at the Georgia Center in Athens. Alex already has a blue suit to match her blue dress, and the two plan on hitting Steak ‘n Shake before the prom.
